¾Roads where frequent and repetitive acceleration and deceleration occur (Driving under
these conditions using the MRCC with Stop & Go function system is not possible).
¾When entering and exiting interchanges, service areas, and parking areas of highways (If
you exit a highway while headway control is in use, the vehicle ahead will no longer be
tracked and your vehicle may accelerate to the set speed).
¾Slippery roads such as ice or snow-bound roads (Tyres could spin causing you to lose
vehicle control, or the stop hold control may not operate.)
¾Long, descending slopes (to maintain distance between vehicles, the system automatically
and continuously applies the brakes which could result in the loss of brake power.)
¾Slopes with a steep gradient (The vehicle ahead may not be detected correctly, your vehicle
may slide while stopped by the stop hold control, and it may accelerate suddenly after it
starts moving.)
For safety purposes, switch the MRCC with Stop & Go function system off when it is not being
used.
Do not get out of the vehicle while the stop hold control is operating:
Getting out of the vehicle while the stop hold control is operating is dangerous as the vehicle
may move unexpectedly and result in an accident. Before getting out of the vehicle, switch the
MRCC with Stop & Go function system off, shift the selector lever to the P position, and apply
the parking brake.

If your vehicle is towed or you are towing something, switch the MRCC with Stop & Go
function system off to prevent a mis-operation.
NOTE
xThe MRCC with Stop & Go function system does not detect the following as physical
objects.
xVehicles approaching in the opposite direction
xPedestrians
xStationary objects (stopped vehicles, obstructions)
xIf a vehicle ahead is travelling at an extremely low speed, the system may not detect it
correctly.
xDuring headway control travel, do not set the system for detection of two-wheeled
vehicles such as motorcycles and bicycles.
xDo not use the MRCC with Stop & Go function system under conditions in which close
proximity warnings are frequently activated.

In the following cases, turn the system off to prevent a mis-operation:
¾The vehicle is being towed or when towing another vehicle.
¾The vehicle is on a chassis roller.
¾When driving on rough roads such as in areas of dense grass or off-road.
Refer to Stopping the Advanced Smart City Brake Support (Advanced SCBS) System Operation
on page 4-231 on how to turn off the Advanced SCBS system.
NOTE
xThe Advanced SCBS system will operate under the following conditions.
xThe engine is running.
xThe Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) warning light (amber) does not illuminate.
x(Object is vehicle ahead)
The vehicle speed is between about 4 to 80 km/h (2 to 50 mph).
x(Object is a pedestrian)
The vehicle speed is between about 10 to 80 km/h (6.2 to 50 mph).
xThe Advanced SCBS system is not turned off.
xUnder the following conditions, the Advanced SCBS system may not operate normally:
xThe Advanced SCBS system will not operate if the driver is deliberately performing
driving operations (accelerator pedal and steering wheel).
xIf there is the possibility of partial contact with a vehicle ahead.
xThe vehicle is driven on a slippery road surface such as wet roads or icy or snow-bound
roads.
xThe braking performance is adversely affected due to cold temperatures or wet brakes.
xThe vehicle is driven at the same speed as the vehicle ahead.
xThe accelerator pedal is depressed.
xThe brake pedal is depressed.
xThe steering wheel is being operated.
xThe selector lever is being operated.
xIn the following cases, the Advanced SCBS may operate.
xObjects on the road at the entrance to a curve.
xVehicles passing in the opposite lane while making a curve.
xWhen passing through a toll gate.
xWhen passing through low gates, narrow gates, car washing machines, or tunnels.
xIf you suddenly come close to a vehicle ahead.
x2-wheeled vehicles, animals, or standing trees.

In the following cases, turn the system off to prevent a mis-operation:
¾The vehicle is being towed or when towing another vehicle.
¾The vehicle is on a chassis roller.
¾When driving on rough roads such as in areas of dense grass or off-road.

4-234 on how to turn off the SCBS F system.
NOTE
xThe SCBS F system will operate under the following conditions.
xThe engine is running.
xThe Smart Brake Support/Smart City Brake Support (SBS/SCBS) system warning
indication/warning light (amber) does not illuminate.
x(Rear-end collision warning)
The vehicle speed is about 4 to 80 km/h (2 to 50 mph).
x(Brake control (Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) brake))
The vehicle speed is about 4 to 30 km/h (2 to 18 mph).
xThe SCBS F system is not turned off.
xUnder the following conditions, the SCBS F system may not operate normally:
xThe SCBS F system will not operate if the driver is deliberately performing driving
operations (accelerator pedal and steering wheel).
xIf there is the possibility of partial contact with a vehicle ahead.
xThe vehicle is driven on a slippery road surface such as wet roads or icy or snow-bound
roads.
xThe braking performance is adversely affected due to cold temperatures or wet brakes.
xThe vehicle is driven at the same speed as the vehicle ahead.
xThe accelerator pedal is depressed.
xThe brake pedal is depressed.
xThe steering wheel is being operated.
xThe selector lever is being operated.
xIn the following cases, the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) determines that there is a
vehicle ahead and the SCBS F may operate.
xObjects on the road at the entrance to a curve.
xVehicles passing in the opposite lane while making a curve.
xMetal objects, bumps, or protruding objects on the road.
xWhen passing through a toll gate.
xWhen passing through low gates, narrow gates, car washing machines, or tunnels.

xThe height of the obstruction is high such as trucks with high loading platforms.
xThe obstruction is small.
xThe obstruction is thin such as a signpost.
xThe obstruction is positioned away from the centre of the vehicle.
xThe surface of the obstruction is not pointed vertically relative to the vehicle.
xThe obstruction is soft such as a hanging curtain or snow stuck to a vehicle.
xThe obstruction is shaped irregularly.
xThe obstruction is extremely close.
xIn the following cases, the ultrasonic sensors (rear) cannot detect obstructions correctly
and the SCBS R may not operate.
xSomething is stuck on the bumper near an ultrasonic sensor (rear).
xThe steering wheel is turned sharply, or the brake or accelerator pedal is operated.
xThere is another obstruction near one obstruction.
xDuring inclement weather such as rain, fog and snow.
xHigh or low humidity.
xHigh or low temperatures
xStrong winds.
xThe path of travel is not flat.
xHeavy luggage is loaded in the luggage compartment or on the rear seat.
xObjects such as a wireless aerial, fog light, or illuminated number plate is installed
near an ultrasonic sensor (rear).
xThe orientation of an ultrasonic sensor (rear) has deviated for reasons such as a
collision.
xThe vehicle is affected by other sound waves such as the horn, engine noise, ultrasonic
sensor of another vehicle.
xIn the following cases, an ultrasonic sensor (rear) may detect something as a target
obstruction which could cause the SCBS R system to operate.
xDriving on a steep slope.
xWheel blocks.
xHanging curtains, gate poles such as at toll gates and railroad crossing.
xWhen travelling near objects such as foliage, barriers, vehicles, walls, and fences along
a road.
xWhen driving off-road in areas where there is grass and forage.
xWhen passing through low gates, narrow gates, car washing machines, and tunnels.
xA towing bar is installed or a trailer is connected.
x(Manual transaxle)
If the vehicle is stopped by the Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) operation and the clutch
pedal is not depressed, the engine stops.
xWhen the system operates, the user is notified by the multi-information display.

Do not rely completely on the SBS system
and always drive carefully:
The SBS is designed to reduce damage in
the event of a collision, not avoid an
accident. The ability to detect an
obstruction is limited depending on the
obstruction, weather conditions, or traffic
conditions. Therefore, if the accelerator
pedal or brake pedal is mistakenly
operated it could result in an accident.
Always verify the safety of the surrounding
area and depress the brake pedal or
accelerator pedal while keeping a safer
distance from vehicles ahead or on-coming
vehicles.

In the following cases, turn the system off
to prevent a mis-operation:
¾The vehicle is being towed or when
towing another vehicle.
¾The vehicle is on a chassis roller.
¾When driving on rough roads such as in
areas of dense grass or off-road.
NOTE
xThe SBS system operates when all of the
following conditions are met:
xThe ignition is switched ON.
xThe SBS system is on.
xThe vehicle speed is about 15 km/h or
faster (10 mph or faster).
xThe relative speed between your
vehicle and the vehicle ahead is about
15 km/h or faster (10 mph or faster).
xThe Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
is not operating.
xThe SBS system may not operate under
the following conditions:
xIf the vehicle is accelerated rapidly
and it comes close to a vehicle ahead.
xThe vehicle is driven at the same
speed as the vehicle ahead.
xThe accelerator pedal is depressed.
xThe brake pedal is depressed.
xThe steering wheel is being operated.
xThe selector lever is being operated.
xThe direction indicator is being used.
xWhen the vehicle ahead is not
equipped with tail lights or the tail
lights are turned off.

xStrong light is shone at the front of the vehicle (back light or high-beam light from
on-coming vehicles).
xThere are many light emitters on the vehicle ahead.
xWhen the vehicle ahead is not equipped with tail lights or the tail lights are turned off at
nighttime.
xElongated luggage or cargo is loaded onto installed roof rails and covers the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC).
xExhaust gas from the vehicle in front, sand, snow, and water vapour rising from
manholes and grating, and water splashed into the air.
xWhen towing a malfunctioning vehicle.
xThe vehicle is driven with tyres having significantly different wear.
xThe vehicle is driven on down slopes or bumpy roads.
xThere are water puddles on the road.
xThe surroundings are dark such as during the night, early evening, or early morning, or
in a tunnel or indoor parking lot.
xThe illumination brightness of the headlights is reduced or the headlight illumination is
weakened due to dirt or a deviated optical axis.
xThe target object enters the blind spot of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC).
xA person or object bursts onto the road from the shoulder or cuts right in front of you.
xYou change lanes and approach a vehicle ahead.
xWhen driving extremely close to the target object.
xTyre chains or a temporary spare tyre is installed.
xThe vehicle ahead has a special shape. For example, a vehicle towing a trailer house or
a boat, or a vehicle carrier carrying a vehicle with its front pointed rearward.
xIf the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) cannot operate normally due to backlight or fog,
the system functions related to the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) are temporarily
stopped and the following warning lights turn on. However, this does not indicate a
malfunction.
xHigh Beam Control System (HBC) warning light (amber)
xAdaptive LED Headlights (ALH) warning light (amber)
xLane Departure Warning System (LDWS) warning indication/warning light
xLane-keep Assist System (LAS) & Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) warning
indication/warning light
xMazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go function (MRCC with Stop & Go
function) warning indication
xSmart Brake Support/Smart City Brake Support (SBS/SCBS) warning light (amber)

xDepending on the type of obstruction and the surrounding conditions, the detection range
of a sensor may narrow, or the sensors may not be able to detect obstructions.
xThe system may not operate normally under the following conditions:
xMud, ice, or snow is adhering to the sensor area (Returns to normal operation when
removed).
xThe sensor area is frozen (Returns to normal operation when the ice is thawed).
xThe sensor is covered by a hand.
xThe sensor is excessively shocked.
xThe vehicle is excessively tilted.
xUnder extremely hot or cold weather conditions.
xThe vehicle is driven on bumps, inclines, gravel, or grass covered roads.
xAnything which generates ultrasound is near the vehicle, such as another vehicle's
horn, the engine sound of a motorcycle, the air brake sound of a large-sized vehicle, or
another vehicle's sensors.
xThe vehicle is driven in heavy rain or in road conditions causing water-splash.
xA commercially-available wing pole or an aerial for a radio transmitter is installed to
the vehicle.
xThe vehicle is moving towards a tall or square curbstone.
xAn obstruction is too close to the sensor.
xObstructions under the bumper may not be detected. Obstructions that are lower than the
bumper or thin which may have been initially detected may no longer be detected as the
vehicle approaches more closely to the obstruction.
xThe following types of obstructions may not be detected:
xThin objects such as wire or rope
xThings which absorb sonic waves easily such as cotton or snow
xAngular shaped objects
xVery tall objects, and those which are wide at the top
xSmall, short objects
xAlways have the system inspected at an expert repairer, we recommend an Authorised
Mazda Repairer if any shock is applied to the bumpers, even in a minor accident. If the
sensors are deviated, they cannot detect obstructions.
xThe system may have a malfunction if the beep does not operate or the indicator light
does not illuminate when the park assist sensors switch is turned on. Consult an expert
repairer, we recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer.
xThe system may have a malfunction if the beep sound which indicates a system
malfunction is heard and the indicator light flashes. Consult an expert repairer, we
recommend an Authorised Mazda Repairer.
xThe beeper which indicates a system malfunction may not be heard if the ambient
temperature is extremely cold, or mud, ice, or snow adheres to the sensor area. Remove
any foreign material from the sensor area.
