Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) *
Your vehicle is equipped with a Forward Sensing Camera (FSC). The Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC) is positioned near the rearview mirror and used by the following systems.
y High Beam Control System (HBC)
y Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
y Smart Brake Support (SBS)
Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
The Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) determines the conditions ahead of the vehicle while
traveling at night and detects traf ¿ c lanes. The distance in which the Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC) can detect objects varies depending on the surrounding conditions.

CAUTION
¾ Do not apply accessories, stickers or fi lm to the windshield near the Forward Sensing
Camera (FSC).
If the area in front of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) lens is obstructed, it will cause
the system to not operate correctly. Consequently, each system may not operate normally
which could lead to an unexpected accident.
¾ Do not disassemble or modify the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC).
Disassembly or modifi cation of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) will cause a malfunction
or mistaken operation. Consequently, each system may not operate normally which could
lead to an unexpected accident.
¾ Heed the following cautions to assure the correct operation of the Forward Sensing Camera
(FSC).
¾ The direction of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) has been fi nely adjusted, therefore
do not change the installation position or remove the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC).
¾ Be careful not to scratch the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) lens or allow it to get dirty.
¾ Do not remove the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) cover.
¾ Do not place objects on the dashboard which refl ect light.
¾ Always keep the windshield glass around the camera clean by removing dirt or fogging.
Use the windshield defroster to remove fogging on the windshield.
¾ Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer regarding cleaning the interior side of the
windshield around the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC).
¾ Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer before performing repairs around the Forward
Sensing Camera (FSC).
¾ The Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) is installed to the windshield. Consult an Authorized
Mazda Dealer for windshield repair and replacement.
¾ When performing repairs around the rearview mirror, consult an Authorized Mazda
Dealer.
¾ Do not hit or apply strong force to the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) or the area around
it. If strong force is applied, stop using the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), the
High Beam Control System (HBC), and the Smart Brake Support (SBS) and consult an
Authorized Mazda Dealer.
¾ The direction in which the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) is pointed has been fi nely
adjusted. Do not change the installation position of the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC)
or remove it. Otherwise, it could result in damage or malfunction.

N O T E
y In the following cases, the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) cannot detect target objects
correctly, and each system may be unable to operate normally.
y The height of the vehicle ahead is low.
y You drive your vehicle at the same speed as the vehicle ahead.
y Headlights are not turned on during the night or when going through a tunnel.
y In the following cases, the Forward Sensing Camera (FSC) may not be able to detect
target objects correctly.
y When driving next to walls with no patterning (including fences and longitudinally
striped walls).
y The taillights of the vehicle ahead are turned off.
y A vehicle is outside the illumination range of the headlights.
y The vehicle is making a sharp turn, or ascending or descending a steep slope.
y Entering or exiting a tunnel.
y Heavy luggage is loaded causing the vehicle to tilt.
y Strong light is shone at the front of the vehicle (back light or high-beam light from on-
coming vehicles).
y There are many light emitters on the vehicle ahead.
y When the vehicle ahead is not equipped with taillights or the taillights are turned off at
nighttime.
y The vehicle ahead has a special shape. For example, a vehicle towing a trailer house
or a boat, or a vehicle carrier carrying a vehicle with its front pointed rearward.

Radar Sensor (Front) *
Your vehicle is equipped with a radar sensor (front).
The following systems also use the radar sensor (front).
y Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC)
y Distance Recognition Support System (DRSS)
y Smart Brake Support (SBS)
The radar sensor (front) functions by detecting the radio waves re À ected off a vehicle ahead
or an obstruction sent from the radar sensor.
The radar sensor (front) is mounted behind the front emblem.
Radar sensor (front)
If the Smart Brake Support/Smart City Brake Support (SBS/SCBS) Warning Light (amber)
is illuminated, the area around the radar sensor may be dirty. Refer to “Warning Guidance”
in the center display (Type B audio).
Refer to If a Warning Light Turns On or Flashes on page 7-27 .

CAUTION
Heed the following precautions to assure correct operation of each system.
¾ Do not adhere stickers (including transparent stickers) to the surface of the radiator
grille and front emblem in and around the radar sensor (front), and do not replace
the radiator grille and front emblem with any product that is not a genuine product
designed for use with the radar sensor (front).
¾ The radar sensor (front) includes a function for detecting soiling of the radar sensor's
front surface and informing the driver, however, depending on the conditions, it may
require time to detect or it may not detect plastic shopping bags, ice or snow. If this
occurs, the system may not operate correctly, therefore always keep the radar sensor
(front) clean.
¾ Do not install a grille guard.
¾ If the front part of the vehicle has been damaged in a vehicle accident, the position of
the radar sensor (front) may have moved. Stop the system immediately and always
have the vehicle inspected at an Authorized Mazda Dealer.
¾ Do not use the front bumper to push other vehicles or obstructions such as when
pulling out of a parking space. Otherwise, the radar sensor (front) could be hit and its
position deviated.
¾ Do not remove, disassemble, or modify the radar sensor (front).
¾ For repairs, replacement or paint work around the radar sensor (front), consult an
Authorized Mazda Dealer.
¾ Do not modify the suspension. If the suspension are modifi ed, the vehicle's posture
could change and the radar sensor (front) may not be able to correctly detect a
vehicle ahead or an obstruction.

y Under the following conditions, the radar sensor (front) may not be able to detect
vehicles ahead or obstructions correctly and each system may not operate normally.
y The rear surface of a vehicle ahead does not re À ect radio waves effectively, such as
an unloaded trailer or an automobile with a loading platform covered by a soft top,
vehicles with a hard plastic tailgate, and round-shaped vehicles.
y Vehicles ahead with low vehicle height and thus less area for re À ecting radio waves.
y Visibility is reduced due to a vehicle ahead casting off water, snow, or sand from its
tires and onto your windshield.
y The luggage compartment is loaded with heavy objects or the rear passenger seats are
occupied.
y Ice, snow, or soiling is on the front surface of the front emblem.
y During inclement weather such as rain, snow, or sand storms.
y When driving near facilities or objects emitting strong radio waves.
y Under the following conditions, the radar sensor (front) may not be able to detect
vehicles ahead or obstructions.
y The beginning and end of a curve.
y Roads with continuous curves.
y Narrow lane roads due to road construction or lane closures.
y The vehicle ahead enters the radar sensor's blind spot.
y The vehicle ahead is running abnormally due to accident or vehicle damage.
y Roads with repeated up and down slopes
y Driving on poor roads or unpaved roads.
y The distance between your vehicle and the vehicle ahead is extremely short.
y A vehicle suddenly comes close such as by cutting into the lane.
y To prevent incorrect operation of the system, use tires of the same speci ¿ ed size,
manufacturer, brand, and tread pattern on all four wheels. In addition, do not use tires
with signi ¿ cantly different wear patterns or tire pressures on the same vehicle (Including
the temporary spare tire).
y If the battery power is weak, the system may not operate correctly.
y If the vehicle is driven on a road with little traf ¿ c and few vehicles ahead or obstructions
for the radar sensor (front) to detect, the sensor detects that the radar sensor (front) is
dirty and the Smart Brake Support/Smart City Brake Support (SBS/SCBS) Warning Light
(amber) may be temporarily turned on. However, it does not indicate a malfunction.

Laser Sensor (Front) *
Your vehicle is equipped with a laser sensor (front). The laser sensor (front) is positioned
near the rearview mirror and used by the following systems.

CAUTION
Heed the following precautions to assure correct operation of the system.
¾ Keep the windshield clean at all times.
¾ Do not apply stickers to the surface of the windshield (including transparent stickers).
¾ If cracks or damage caused by fl ying gravel or debris is visible near the laser sensor
(front), stop using the system immediately and have your vehicle inspected by an
Authorized Mazda Dealer.
Refer to the Personalization Features on page 9-10 on how to turn off the system.
¾ Do not apply a coating agent to the windshield.
¾ When replacing the windshield wipers or windshield, consult an Authorized Mazda
Dealer.
¾ Never remove the sensor.
¾ A removed sensor will not meet the conditions for a class 1M laser under the IEC
60825-1 specifi cation and therefore eye safety cannot be assured.
¾ Do not peer into the sensor using optical instruments with a magnifi cation function
such as magnifying glasses, and microscopic and objective lenses within a distance of
100 mm (3.94 in) from the sensor.

y In the following cases, the laser sensor (front) cannot detect vehicles ahead correctly, and
each system may be unable to operate normally.
y The windshield is dirty.
y Elongated luggage or cargo is loaded onto installed roof rails and covers the laser
sensor (front).
y Exhaust gas from the vehicle in front, sand, snow, and water vapor rising from
manholes and grating, and water splashed into the air.
y If there are recognizable cracks or damage caused by À ying gravel or debris on the
windshield, always have the windshield replaced. Consult an Authorized Mazda Dealer
for replacement.

Radar Sensors (Rear) *
Your vehicle is equipped with radar sensors (rear). The following systems also use the radar
sensors (rear).
y Blind Spot Monitoring system (BSM)
y Rear Cross Traf ¿ c Alert (RCTA)
The radar sensors (rear) function by detecting the radio waves re À ected off a vehicle
approaching from the rear or an obstruction sent from the radar sensor.
Radar sensors (rear)
The radar sensors (rear) are installed inside the rear bumper, one each on the left and right
sides.
Always keep the surface of the rear bumper near the radar sensors (rear) clean so that the
radar sensors (rear) operate normally. Also, do not apply items such as stickers.
Refer to Exterior Care on page 6-59 .
CAUTION
If the rear bumper receives a severe impact, the system may no longer operate normally.
Stop the system immediately and have the vehicle inspected at an Authorized Mazda
Dealer.
