Replacing the wiper blades
Important safety notes
GWARNING
If the windshield wipers begin to move while
you are changing the wiper blades, you could
be trapped by the wiper arm.There is a risk
of injury.
Always switch off the windshield wipers and
ignition before changing the wiper blades.
!To avoid damaging the wiper blades,
make sure that you touch only the wiper
arm of the wiper.
!Never open the hood if a windshield wiper
arm has been folded away from the
windshield.
Never fold a windshield wiper arm without
a wiper blade back onto the windshield.
Hold the windshield wiper arm firmly when
you change the wiper blade. If you release
the windshield wiper arm without a wiper
blade and it falls onto the windshield, the
windshield may be damaged by the force of
the impact.
Mercedes-Benzrecommends that you have
the wiper blades changed ataqualified
specialist workshop.

Removing the wiper blades
XRemove the SmartKey from the ignition
lock.
XFold the wiper arm away from the
windshield.
XPress both release clips.
XFold wiper bladein the direction of
arrow"away from wiper arm!.
XRemove wiper bladein the direction of
arrow.
Installing the wiper blades
XPosition new wiper bladewith
recess on lug.
XFold wiper bladein the direction of
arrow"onto the wiper arm, until retaining
clipsengage in bracket!.
XMake sure that wiper bladeis seated
correctly.
XFold the wiper arm back onto the
windshield.

Activating the HOLD function
Example: vehicles with a color multifunctiondisplay
XMake sure that the activation conditions
are met.
XDepress the brake pedal.
XQuickly depress the brake pedal further
untilappears in the multifunction
display.
The HOLD function is activated. You can
release the brake pedal.
iIf depressing the brake pedal the first
time does not activate the HOLD function,
wait briefly and then try again.
Deactivating the HOLD function
The HOLD function is deactivated
automatically if:
Ryou accelerate.Onvehicles with automatic
transmission:only when the transmission
is in positionDorR.
Rthe transmission is in positionPon vehicles
with automatic transmission.
Ryou depress the brake pedal againwith a
certain amountofpressure until
disappears from the multifunction display.
Ryou secure the vehicle using the electric
parking brake.
Ryou activate DISTRONIC PLUS.
iAfter a time, the electric parking brake
secures the vehicle and relieves the service
brake.
The electric parking brake automatically
secures the vehicle if the HOLD function is
activated and:
Rthe driver's door is open and the driver's
seat beltis unfastened.
Rthe engine is switched off, unless it is
automatically switched off by the ECO
start/stop function.
Ra system malfunction occurs.
Rthe power supply is not sufficient.
If a malfunction occurs, then the transmission
may be shifted into positionPautomatically.
RACE START
Important safety notes
RACE START enables optimal acceleration
from a standing start. The precondition for
this is a suitable high-grip road surface.
RACE START is intended solely for activation
on dedicated race circuits.
iRACE START is only available in AMG
vehicles.
Conditions for activation
You can activate RACE START if:
Rthe doors, hood and the trunk lid are
closed.
Rthe engine is running and the transmission,
all-wheel drive clutch and the engine are at
operating temperature.
RSPORT handling mode is activated.

Rthe steering wheel is in the straight-ahead
position.
Rthe vehicle is stationary and the brake
pedal is depressed (left foot).
Rthe transmission is in positionD.
Rdrive programMis selected (Ypage 146).

XPress and hold one of buttonsto!on
the integrated garage door opener.
After a short time, indicator lamplights
up yellow.
XRelease the button.
Indicator lampflashes yellow.
XPress button of garage door remote
controlfor two seconds, then release it
for two seconds.
XPress button again for two seconds.
XRepeat this sequence on button of
remote controluntil indicator lamp
lights up green.
If indicator lampturns red, repeat the
process.
XContinue with the other programming
steps (see above).
Problems when programming
If you are experiencing problems
programming the integrated garage door
opener on the rear-view mirror, take note of
the following instructions:
RCheck the transmitter frequency of garage
door drive remote control.This can
usually be found on the back of the remote
control.
The integrated garage door opener is
compatible with devices that have units
which operate in the frequency range of
280to 433MHz.
RReplace the batteries in garage door
remote control.This increases the
likelihood that garage door remote control
will transmit a strongand precise signal
to the integrated garage door openerinthe
rear-view mirror.
RWhen programming, hold remote control
at varying distances and angles from the
button that you are programming. Try
various angles at a distance between 2and
12 inches (5to 30 cm) or at the same angle
but at varying distances.
RIf another remote control for the same
garage door drive is available, repeat the
same programming steps with this remote
control. Before performing these steps,
make sure that new batteries have been
installed in garage door drive remote
control.
RNote that some remote controls only
transmit for a limited amount of time (the
indicator lamp on the remote control goes
out). Press button on remote control
again before transmission ends.
RAlign the antenna cable of the garage door
opener unit. This can improve signal
reception/transmission.
Opening/closing the garage door
After it has been programmed, the integrated
garage door opener performs the function of
the garage door system remote control.
Please also read the operating instructions
for the garage door system.
XTurn the SmartKey to position2in the
ignition lock.
XPress button,"or!which you have
programmed to operate the garage door.
Garage door system with a fixed code:
indicator lamplights up green.
Garage door system with a rolling code:
indicator lampflashes green.
iThe transmitter will transmit a signal as
long as the button is pressed. The
transmission is halted after a maximum of
ten seconds and indicator lamplights
up yellow. Press button,"or!again
if necessary.
Clearing the memory
XTurn the SmartKey to position2in the
ignition lock.
XPress buttonsand!.
The indicator lamp lights up yellow.
XPress and hold buttonsand!until the
indicator lamp turns green.

!Make sure that the windshieldwipers are
not folded away fromthe windshield. You
could otherwise damage the windshield
wipers or the hood.
XMake sure that the windshield wipers are
switched off.
XPull release leveron the hood.
The hood is released.
XReach into the gap between the hood and
the radiator trim and press hood catch
leverto the left.
XRaise the hood.
XPull support strut!out of bracket.
XLift up support strut!and insert it into
yellow retaining clip".
Closing the hood
XRaise the hood slightly and, at the same
time, remove support strut!from yellow
retaining clip".
XSwing support strut!down and press it
into bracketuntil it engages.
XLower the hood and let it fall from a height
of approximately 8 in (20 cm).
XCheck that the hood has engaged properly.
If the hood can be raised slightly, it is not
properly engaged. Do not press the hood
closed. Open the hood again and close it
with a little more force.
Engine oil
General notes
Depending on the driving style, the vehicle
consumes up to 0.9 US qt (0.8 liters) of oil
overadistanceof600 miles(1,000 km). The
oil consumption may be higher than this when
the vehicle is new or if you frequently drive at
high engine speeds.
Depending on the engine, the oil dipstickmay
be in a different location.
When checking the oil level:
Rpark the vehicle on a level surface.
Rthe engine should be switched off for
approximately five minutes if the engine is
at normal operating temperature.
Rif the engine is not at normal operating
temperature, e.g.ifthe engine was only
started briefly: wait about 30 minutes
before carrying out the measurement.

!Make sure that no moisture can enter the
fuse box when the cover is open.
!When closing the cover, make sure that it
is lying correctly on the fuse box. Moisture
seeping in or dirt could otherwise impair
the operation of the fuses.
XOpen the hood.
XUse a dry cloth to remove any moisture
from the fuse box.
XTo open:open clamps.
XFold up coverin the direction of the
arrow and remove it.
XTo close:check whether the seal is seated
correctly in cover.
XInsert coverat the back into openings
"on the fuse box.
XFold down cover.
XHook clampsinto the fuse box and
close.
XClose the hood.
Fuse box in the front-passenger
footwell
XTo open:remove the floormat from the
front-passenger side.
XFold out perforated floor coveringin the
direction of the arrow.
XTo release cover", press retaining
clamp.
XFold out cover"in the direction of the
arrow to the catch.
XRemove cover"forwards.
iFuse allocation chart!is located on the
lower right-hand side of cover".
XTo close:insert cover"on the left-hand
side of the fuse box into the retainer.
Cover"engages in the retainers.
XFold down cover"until clampslock
audibly.
XFold back perforated floor covering.
