You must make sure that fuel does not come

and that it is not swallowed. Do not inhale fuel
vapors .K eep fuel away from children.
If you or others com ei nt oc ontac tw ith fuel,
observ et he following:R
Wash away fuel from skin immediately
using soap and water. R
If fuel comes int oc ontac tw ith your eyes,
immediately rinse the mt horoughly with
clean water. Seek medical assistanc ew ith-
out delay. R
If fuel is swallowed, seek medical assis-
tance without delay. Do not induc ev omit-
ing. R
Immediately change out of clothing which
has com ei nt oc ontac tw ith fuel.
G WARNING
Electrostatic buildup can create spark sa nd
ignit ef uel vapors .T here is ar isk of fire and
explosion.
Always touc ht he vehicle body befor eo pening
the fuel filler flap or touching the fuel pump
nozzle. An ye xisting electrostatic buildup is
thereby discharged.
! Do not use diesel to refuel vehicles with a
gasolin ee ngine. Do not switc hont he ignition
if you accidentally refuel with the wron gf uel.
Otherwise, the fuel will enter the fuel system.
Even small amount soft he wron gf uel could
result in damage to the fuel syste ma nd the
engine. Notify aq ualified specialis tw orkshop
and have the fuel tan ka nd fuel lines drained
completely.
! Overfilling the fuel tan kc ould damage the
fuel system.
! Take care not to spill any fuel on painted
surfaces. You could otherwise damage the
paintwork.
! Use af ilter when adding fuel from af uel can.
The fuel lines and/or the fuel injection system
could otherwise be blocked by particles from
the fuel can. Do not get int ot he vehicle again during the refu-
eling process. Otherwise, electrostatic charge
could build up again.
If you overfill the fuel tank, fuel could spray out
when the fuel pump nozzle is removed.

Refueling

The fuel filler flap is unlocked/locked automat-
ically when you unlock/lock the vehicle with the
SmartKey.
The position of the fuel filler cap is displayed

X
Turn the fuel filler cap counterclockwise and
remove it. X
Insert the fuel filler cap into the holder on the
inside of fuel filler flap

If at ire pressure of 200 kPa (2.0 bar/29 psi) has
been attained after ten minutes: X
Switch off the tire inflation compressor. X
Unscrew the fille rh ose from the valve of the
faulty tire.
Note that tire sealant may escape when you
unscrew the fille rh ose.X
USA only: Stow the tire sealant bottle and the
tire inflation compressor. X
Pull away immediately .X
Stop after driving for approximately ten
minutes and check the tire pressure with the
tire inflation compressor.
The tire pressure must now be at least
130 kPa (1.3 bar/19 psi).
G WARNING
If the required tire pressure is not reached
after driving for as hort period ,t he tire is too
badl yd amaged. The tire sealant cannot repair
the tire in this instance. Damaged tires and a
tire pressure that is too low can significantly
impair the vehicle's braking and driving char-
acteristics. There is ar isk of accident.
Do not continue driving. Contact aq ualified
specialist workshop.

tioned above ,c ontact an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center. Or call
1-800-FOR-MERCedes (in the USA) or
1-800-387-0100 (in Canada). X
USA only: Correct the tire pressure if it is still
at least 130 kPa (1.3 bar/19 psi). See the Tire
and Loading Information placard on the driv-
er's side B-pilla rort he tire pressure table in
the fuel fille rf lap for values.X
To increase the tire pressure: switch on the
tire inflation compressor. X
To reduce the tire pressure: depres sp res-
sure release button C next to pressure
gauge D . X
When the tire pressure is correct, unscrew the
fille rh ose from the valve of the sealed tire.
Note that tire sealant may escape when you
unscrew the fille rh ose.X
Screw the valve cap onto the tire valve of the
sealed tire.
X
To remove the tire sealant bottle from the tire
inflation compressor, press together the lock-
ing tabs on the yellow cap. X
Pul lt he tire sealant bottle out of the tire infla-
tion compressor.
The fille rh ose remains attached to the tire
sealant bottle. X
Drive to the nearest qualifie ds pecialist work-
shop and have the tire changed there. X
Have the tire sealant bottle and the fille rh ose
replaced as soon as possible at aq ualified
specialist workshop. X
Have the tire sealant bottle replaced every
four years at aq ualifie ds pecialist workshop.Flat tire 275

During the charging process ,ab attery produces hydrogen gas. If as hort circui to ccurs or sparks
are created ,t he hydrogen gas can ignite. There is ar isk of an explosion.R
Make sure that the positive terminal of ac onnected battery does not come into contact with
vehicl ep arts.R
Never place metal objects or tools on ab attery.R
It is important that you observe the described order of the battery terminal sw hen connecting
and disconnecting ab attery.R
When jump-starting, make sure that the battery pole sw ith identical polarity are connected.R
It is particularl yi mportant to observe the described order when connecting and disconnecting
the jumper cables. R
Never connect or disconnect the battery terminal sw hile the engine is running.
G WARNING
Ad ischarged battery can freeze at temperatures below freezing point. When jump-starting the
vehicl eorc harging the battery ,g ase sc an escap ef rom the battery .T here is ar isk of an explosion.
Allow the frozen battery to thaw out before charging it or jump-starting.
! Avoid repeated and lengthy starting attempts. Otherwise, the catalytic converter coul db e
damaged by the non-combusted fuel.
If the indicator/warning lamp sdon ot light up in the instrument cluster at low temperatures, it is very
likel yt hat the discharged battery has frozen. In this case you may neither jump-start the vehicl en or
charge the battery .L et the battery thaw first. The service life of at hawed-out battery may be shorter.
The starting characteristics can be impaired ,p articularl yatl ow temperatures. Have the thawed-out
battery checked at aq ualified specialist workshop.
Do not start the vehicl eu sing ar api dc harging device. If you rv ehicle's battery is discharged, the
engine can be jump-started from another vehicl eorf rom as econd battery using jumper cables.
Observe the following points: R
The battery is not accessible in all vehicles. If the other vehicle's battery is not accessible ,j ump-
start the vehicl eu sing as econd battery or aj ump-starting device.R
You may only jump-start the vehicl ew hen the engine and exhaust system are cold.R
Do not start the engine if the battery is frozen. Let the battery thaw first. R
Only jump-start from batterie sw ith a12Vv oltag er ating.R
Only use jumper cables that are not damaged and have as ufficient cross-section and insulated
terminal clamps. R
Make sure that the two vehicles do not touch. Jump-starting 279

If the tire pressures have been set to the lower
values for lighter load sa nd/or lowe rr oad
speeds, the pressures shoul dber eset to the
higher values: R
if you want to drive with an increased load
and/or R
if you want to drive at higher speeds
i The tire pressures for increased load sa nd/
or higher road speeds, shown in the tire pres-
sure table, may have an egative effect on driv-
ing comfort.
If the tire pressure is not set correctly, this can
lea dtoane xcessive build up of heat and as ud-
den loss of pressure.

Important notes on tire pressure
G WARNING
If the tire pressure drops repeatedly ,t he
wheel ,v alve or tire may be damaged. Tire
pressure that is too low may resul tina tire
blow-out. There is ar isk of an accident.R
Check the tire for foreign objects. R
Check whether the wheel is losing air or the
valve is leaking.
If you are unabl etor ectify the damage, con-
tact aq ualifie ds pecialist workshop.
G WARNING
If you fit unsuitable accessorie so nto tire
valves ,t he tire valves may be overloaded and
malfunction, which can cause tire pressure
loss. Due to their design, retrofitted tire pres-
sure monitors keep the tire valve open. This
can also resul tint ire pressure loss. There is a
risk of an accident.
Only screw the standard valve cap or other
valve caps approved by Mercedes-Benz for
you rv ehicle onto the tire valve.
Use as uitable pressure gauge to check the tire
pressure. The outer appearance of at ire does
not permit any reliable conclusion abou tt he tire
pressure. On vehicle se quipped with the elec-
tronic tire pressure monitor, the tire pressure
can be checked in the on-board computer. The tire temperature and pressure increase
when the vehicle is in motion. This is dependent
on the driving speed and the load.
Therefore, you shoul do nly correct tire pres-
sures when the tires are cold.
The tires are cold: R
if the vehicle has been parked with the tires
out of direct sunlight for at least three hours
and R
if the vehicle has been driven less than 1m ile
(1.6 km)
The tire temperature changes depending on the
outsid et emperature ,t he vehicle speed and the
tire load .Ift he tire temperature changes by
18 ‡( 10 †), the tire pressure changes by
approximately 10 kPa (0.1 bar/1.5 psi) .T ake
this into account when checking the pressure of
warm tires. Only correct the tire pressure if it is
too low for the current operating conditions. If
you check the tire pressure when the tires are
warm, the resulting valu ew il lbeh ighe rt han if
the tires were cold. This is normal. Do not
reduce the tire pressure to the valu es pecified
for cold tires. The tire pressure would otherwise
be too low.

Tires with pressure that is too low can over-
heat and burst as ac onsequence. In addition,
they also suffer from excessive and/or irreg-
ula rw ear, which can severel yi mpair the brak-
ing propertie sa nd the driving characteristics.

Avoid tire pressures that are too low in all the
tires, including the spare wheel.

General notes While th ev ehicle is in motion, th et ir ep ressure
loss warning system monitors th es et tir ep res-
sure using th er otational speed of th ew heels.
This enables th es ystem to detect significant
pressure loss in at ire. If th es peed of rotation of
aw heel changes as ar esult of al oss of pressure,
ac orresponding warning message will appear in
th em ultifunction display.

Uniform Tir eQ ualit yG rading StandardsAu nifor ms tandard to grade the quality of tires
with regards to tread quality, tire traction and
temperature characteristics. The quality grad-
ing assessmen tism ade by the manufacturer
following specification sf rom the U.S .g overn-
ment .T he ratings are molded int ot he sidewall of
the tire.
Recommended tir ep re ssuresThe recommended tire pressure applies to the
tires mounted at the factory.
The Tire and Loading Information placard con-
tains the recommended tire pressures for cold
tires on af ully loaded vehicle and for the maxi-
mum permissible vehicle speed.
The tire pressure table contains the recommen-
ded pressures for cold tires for various operat-
ing conditions, i.e. differin gl oad and speed con-
ditions.
Increased vehicle weight due to optional
equipment The combined weight of all standard and
optional equipment available for the vehicle,
regardless of whether it is actually installed on
the vehicle or not.
Rim This is the part of the wheel on which the tire is
mounted.
GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating) The GAWR is the maximum gross axle weight
rating. The actual load on an axle must never
exceed the gross axle weight rating. The gross
axle weight ratin gc an be found on the vehicle
identification plate on the B-pillar on the driver's
side.
Speed rating
The speed ratin gisp art of the tire identification.
It specifies the speed range for which the tire is
approved.
GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight)
The gross vehicle weight includes the weight of
the vehicle includin gf uel, tools, the spare wheel,
accessories installed, occupants, luggage and
the drawbar noseweight ,ifa pplicable. The gross
vehicle weight must not exceed the gross vehi-
cle weight ratin gG VWR as specified on the vehi-
cle identification plate on the B-pillar on the
driver' ss ide. GVW R( Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)The GVWR is the maximum permissible gross
weight of af ully loaded vehicle (the weight of the
vehicle includin ga ll accessories, occupants,
fuel, luggage and the drawbar n oseweight ,i f
applicable). The gross vehicle weight ratin gi s
specified on the vehicle identification plate on
the B-pillar on the driver' ss ide.
Maximum loaded vehicle weight The maximum weight is the sum of: R
the curb weight of the vehicle R
the weight of the accessories R
the load limit R
the weight of the factory installed optional
equipment
Kilopascal (kPa) Metric unit for tire pressure. 6.9 kPa corre-
sponds to 1p si. Another unit for tire pressure is
bar. 100 kilopascals (kPa) are the equivalent of
1b ar.
Load index In addition to the load-bearin gi ndex ,t he load
index may also be imprinted on the sidewall of
the tire. This specifies the load-bearin gc apacity
more precisely.
Curb weight The weight of av ehicle with standard equipment
includin gt he maximum capacit yoff uel, oil and
coolant .Ita lso includes the air-conditionin gs ys-
tem and optional equipment if these are instal-
led in the vehicle, but does not include passen-
gers or luggage.
Maximum load rating
The maximum tire load is the maximum permis-
sible weight in kilogram sorl bs for which at ire is
approved.
Maximum permissible tir ep re ssure
Maximum permissible tire pressure for one tire.
Maximum load on one tire
Maximum load on one tire. This is calculated by
dividing the maximum axle load of one axle by
two.306
