6 Swing bac kthe boot separator

6 Open the ski bag cover ( =page 189).
6 Take the Allen key from the Owner's
Manual wallet.
1 Perforations
6 Break through perforations 1in the
rear wall trim with the Allen key.

Introduce the long section of the Allen
key into the borehole.
6 Push down the lock with the Allen key.
The roll-over bar is pushed out with a
loud noise.
6 Repeat this step for the other roll-over
bar.
Have the roll-over bars checked immedi-
ately at a qualified specialist works hop,
e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Serv ice Ce ntre. Retracting the roll-over bars manually
If the roll-o
ver bars have been deployed au-
tomatically, you may lower the roll-over
bars manually.
i The re arseat head restraint scannot be
lo we red and the soft top cannot be opened or
cl os ed if theroll-over bars have been deploy ed.

Risk of injury Make sure that nobody
is within the area of
movement of the roll-over bars when carry-
in g out the following steps.
When the roll-over bars are deployed, the
rear seat head restraints with the roll-over
bars underneath them are suddenly pushed
upw ards.

Check the following points if the soft top
does not close automatically:
! Is the boot separator engaged
(= page 188)?
! Is the skibag cover closed
(=
page 189)?
! Have the roll-over bars been deployed?
! Is the boot lid closed?
! Is the on-board voltage sufficient?
Start the engine if necessary.
If the automatic function still does not
work, you may close the soft top manually.
You will require somebody to assist you in
carrying out this work. i Soft top emergency operation isa complex,
technically demanding procedure req uiring a
great deal of strength. Only close the soft top
manually under extreme circumstances. In this
sit uation, it is better to consult a qualified spe-
cia list workshop, e.g. a Mercede s-Be nz Service
Centre. 6
Apply the parking brake.
6 Open the side windo ws.
6 Lower the head restraints ( =page 94).
i The roll-over bars may have been deployed
if the head restraints cannot be lowered. For in-
for ma tion abo utlowering the roll-over bars man-
ually ( =

6 Remove the key from the ignition lock.
6 Open the boot. 6
Take the two straps from the vehicle
toolkit. For more information about the
vehicle tool kit ( =pa ge 276).
6 Take the Allen key from the Owner's
Manual wallet.
6 Remove the trim inthe boot on the left-
hand side.

out the locking mechanism again and

7 Soft top compartment hinge
The soft top compartment hinges are on
the right and left in the gap between the
soft top compartment co ver and the boot
seal.
6 Pull both levers 6away from each oth-
er and turn levers 6on both sides of
soft top compartment hinges 7for-
wards beyon dthe notch position. 8
Strap
6 Pull straps 8throu ghon both sides
behind the so fttop compartment hing-
es.
6 Guide the straps th roug h th eresul ting
lo ops. 6
Pull the straps between the soft top
compartment hinges and the soft top
compart ment.
i Do not pull the straps while the boot lid is
ope n.
6 Place the straps on the soft top com-
partment cover.
6 Remove the Allen key and the vehicle
key from the boot.
6 Close the boot lid.
You will not have access to the boot un-
til the emergency operation iscomplet-

co mpartment cover and the boot lid may collide.
6 Each person takes hold of a str ap.
6 Both of you must now simul taneously

and the other on the left of the vehicle. 6

upwards to the stop; it will then be in a
vertical position. Pull the lid back with
firmly applied force.

! Ifth e boot cannot be ope ned from th edri v-
er's seat using the remote control or the handle
in the recess for the rear licence plate after
em ergency operation ofthe softtop, press the
soft top compartmen tcover again as described
above.
Never ope nthe boot lid using the emergency key
el em ent. You could otherwi sedamage the boot
lid and th e softtopco mpartment cover. If there is an electri
cal fault, the selector
lever can be released manually from posi-
tion P.Do this totow the vehicle, for exam-
ple.
6 Open the stowage compartment on the
centre consol e.
6 Pull the stowage tray out of the stow-
age compartment (
=page 225).
6 Insert a screwdriver or a pen into the
opening in the separator and prise off
the separator. 3
Pen
6 Insert a pen 3(or a similar object) into
the bore.
6 Push pen 3forwards and, atthe same
time, shift the se lector lever out of po-
sition P.
6 Remove pen3.
You can move the selector lever freely

Left bul bholder, mirror image of right

Switch off the lig hts.
6 Open the boot lid ( =page 84).
6 Roll the trim located in the area of the
appropriate tail lamp cluster to the
side.
6 Squeeze the reta ining clips and remove
the bul bholder along with the bulb.
6 Turn the bulb anti-clockwise and
remove it from the hol der.
6 Insert the new bulb into the holder and
turn it clockwise.
6 Replace the bulb holder. Make sure
that you hear the bul bhol der engage in
the retaining clips.
6 Roll the tri mback again. 1
Screws
6 Switch off the lights.
6 Undo the two screws and remove the
lamp unit.
6 Change the bulb and refit the la mpunit.
6 Screw the two screws back in. Ch

Prepare the vehic leas described.
Make sure that th estanding surface for the
vehicle and jack is firm and not slippery. Do
not use blocks ofwo od orsimilar asjack ing
supports, as the jack will not be able to
achieve its load-be aring capacity due to the
restricte dheight.
Do not start the engine at any time while the
wheel is being changed.
Do not crawl under the ve hicle while itis
supported by the jack. If you do not raise the
vehicle in the way described, it could slip off
the jack (e.g. when the engineis star ted or

Flat tyre
You
can use theT IREFIT kit to sea lsma ll
punctures, particularly those in the tyre's
tread. TIREFIT may be used at outside tem-
pe ratures of down to –20 °C. 6
Do not remove any forei gnbodies
whi chhave penetrated the tyre, e.g.
screws or nai ls.
6 Remove the TIREFIT kit, the accom pa-
nying "max. 80 km /h" sticker and the
electric air pump from the boot
( = pa ge 276).
6 Affix the sti cker in the driver's field of
vision. Using th
eTIREFIT kit G
Risk of fire Smok
ing, fire and nak edflame sare prohibit-
ed when using TIREFIT.
Avoid creating sparks. G
Riskofaccident Your safety is at particular risk and TIREFIT
is unable to repa
ira fl at tyre in the following
situations:
! If there are cuts or punctures in the tyre
gre ater than 4mm in size
! If the wheel is damaged
! If you have driven at very low tyre pres-
sures or with flat tyres
Do not drive any furth er.Consult a qualifi ed
specialist workshop which has the neces-
sa ry special ist knowledge and too lsto carry
out the work required. Mercedes-Benz rec-
om mends that you use a Mercedes-Benz
Service Centre for this purpose. In particu-
lar, work rel evant to safety or on safety-
related syste msmustbe carried out at a

6 Turn the spa re-wheel bracket anti-
clockwise.
The bracket loosens.
6 Remove the wheel from the boot.
6 Engage the steering wheel lock. Raisin

6 Prevent the vehicle from rolling away
using chocks or similar:
On a level road:
6place the cho cks in front of and be-
hind the wheel diagonally opposite
the wheel to be changed.
On uphill gradients:
6 place chocks behind both wheels
on the other axle.
6 Take the vehicle tool kit and the jack
out of the boot ( =page 276).

Risk of accident Your vehicle's handling characteristics will
change when a "Minispare" emergency
spare wheel is fitted. Adapt your style of
driving accordingly. The same applies where
a spare wheel is
mounted on the rear axle.
You may only use the "Minispare" emergen-
cy spare wheel or the spare wheel for a short
period on the rear axle, and may drive at a
maximum speed of 80 km /h. Have the
"Minispare" emergency spare
wheel or the spare wheel on the rear axle re-
placed with a new wheel at the nearest qual-
ified specialist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-
Benz Service Centre.
Never drive the vehicle with more than one
