RACETIMER Displaying and starting the RACETIMER
:

You can start the RACETIME Rwhen the
engin eisrunning or if the key is in position
2 in the ignition lock.
X Press the =or; button on the steer-
ing wheel to select the AMG menu.
X Press the 9button repeatedly until the
RACETIME Risshown.
X To start: press the abutton to start the
RACETIMER.

Starting anew lap :

teen laps. Lap 16 can only be stopped with
Finish Lap .
Stopping the RACETIMER X
Press the %button on the steering
wheel.
X Press ato confirm Yes .
The RACETIME Rinterrupts timing if you stop
the vehicle and turn the key to position 1in
the ignition lock. If you turn the key to position
2 or 3and then press ato confirm

Resetting the current lap
X Stop the RACETIMER.
X Press the =or; button to select
Reset Lap .
X Press ato reset the lap time to "0". Deleting all laps
If you switch off the engine, the RACETIMER
is reset to "0" after 30 seconds. All laps are
deleted.
You cannot delete individual stored laps. If
you have stopped 16 laps, the curren tlap
does no thave to be reset.

Introduction
General notes Display message
sappear in th emultifunction display.
Display message swithg raphic symbols are simplified in th eOwner's Manual and may differ
fro mt he symbols in the multifunction display.
Please respond in accordance with the displaym essages and follow the additional notes in
this Owner's Manual.
Certain displaym essages are accompanied by an audible warning tone or acontinuous tone.
When the ignition is switched off, all displaym essages are deleted apart from some high-
priority displaym essages. Once the causes of the high-priority displaym essages have been
rectified, the corresponding displaym essages are also deleted.
When you stop and park the vehicle, please observe the notes on:
R HOLD function (Y page 179)
R Parking (Y page 159)
Hiding display messages X
Press the aor% button on the steering wheel to hide the displaym essage.
The displaym essage is cleared.
The multifunction displays hows high-priority displaym essages in red. Some high-priority dis-
play messages cannot be hidden.
The multifunction displays hows these messages continuously until the causes for the mes-
sages have been remedied.
Message memory The on-board computer saves certain displaym
essages in themessage memory.Y ou can
call up the display messages:
X Press the =or; button on the steerin gwheel to select the Serv. menu.
If there are display messages, the multifunction display shows 2messages ,f
or example.
X Press the 9or: button to select the entry, e.g. 2messages .
X Press ato confirm.
X Press the 9or: button to scroll through the display messages. Display messages

The brake system continues to function normally, but without the
functions listed above. The wheels could therefore lock if you
brake hard, for example.
The steerability and braking characteristics may be severely affec-
ted. The braking distance in an emergency braking situation can
increase.
If ESP ®
is not operational, ESP ®
is unable to stabilise the vehicle.
The danger of skidding and having an accident increases.
X Carefullyd rive onasuitable stretch of road, making slight steer-
ing movementsatas peed above 20 km/h.
If the display message disappears, the functions mentioned
above are available again.
If the display message continues to be displayed:
X Drive on carefully.

Brake is temporarily inoperative. Possible causes:
R the function is impaired due to heavy rain or snow.
R the sensors in the radiator trim and in the bumper sare dirty.
R the radar sensor system is temporarily inoperative, e.g. due to
electromagnetic radiation emitted by nearby TV or radio sta-
tion soro ther sources of electromagnetic radiation.
R AMG vehicles: ESP ®
is deactivated.
R the system is outside the operating temperature range.
R the on-board voltage is too low.
Onc ethe causes listed above no longer apply, the display message
goes out.
PRE-SAFE ®
Brake is operational again.
If the display message does not disappear:
X Pull over and stop the vehicle safely as soon as possible ,paying
attention to road and traffic conditions.
X Secure the vehicle against rollin gaway (Y page 159).
X Clean the sensors in the radiator trim and in the bumpers
(Y page 304).
X Restar tthe engine.
X AMG vehicles: reactivate ESP ®

G WARNING
As eat belt which is not worn correctly, or which has not been
engaged in the seat belt buckle correctly, cannot provide the
intended level of protection.

X If necessary, ask the occupants in the rear to fasten their seat
belts (Y page 49).
