Mak esure that the back rest engage sfully. If
the back rest is no tengaged ,the message:

Stop the vehicle as soon as road and traffic
condition spermit and rem ove anyobjects
that are blocking the backrest. G
Risk of injury
Make sure that nobody can becom etrapped
when movin gthe seat. If there is arisk of
someon ebecoming trapped, press the seat
adjustmen tswitc honthe door.
With the EASY-EN TRY feature, the seat moves
forward sifyou have folde dthe seat bac krest
forwards and th eseat is in th erear half of the
adjustment range. This makes it convenient
for passengers to get in and out of th erear
compartment.
The head restrai ntalso lowers on vehicles
with electric seat adjustment. Example: Coupé Folding th

Vehicles withou tmemor yfunction:
rel ease the hea drestra intifn ecessary and
push it down.
X Pull seat release handle :forwards and
fold the backrest forwards, until the seat
backrest engages.
X Push the seat as far forwards as it will go.
X Vehicles with memory function: pull seat
releas ehandle :forwards and fold the
backrest forwards as far as it will go.
The seat moves automatically to the fore-
most position.
Folding back the backrest X
Vehicles without memory function:
push the seat backrest back horizontally
until the seat reaches the position that was
previously set.
X Swing back the seat backrest evenly below
release handle :until it engages ,doing so
in as mooth manner.
X After th eseat back rest has been folded
back, chec kthe position of the head
restraint and set it to the correc tposition.
X Vehicles with memory function: swing
back the seat backrest.

3 may result in excessiv eseat temperatures.
The health of passengers that have limited
temperatur esensitivit yoralimited ability to
react to excessively high temperatures may
be affected or they may even suffer burn-like
injuries. Therefore, do not use seat heating
level 3repeatedly.
The three red indicator lamps in the button

The system automatically switches off
approximately 20 minutes after it is set to
level 1.
X Make sure that the key is in position 1or
2 in the ignition lock.
X To switc hon:press button :repeatedly
until the desired heatin glevel is set.
X To switc hoff:press button :repeatedly
until all th eindicato rlamps go out.
Problems with the seat heating The seat heating has switched itself off pre-
maturely or cannot be switched on. The vehi-
cle's electrical system voltage is too low
because too many electrical consumers are
switched on.
X Switc hoff electrical consumers which you
do not need, such as th erear window heat-
ing or interior lighting. Switching the seat ventilation on/off
Switching on/off The three blue indicator lamps in the buttons
indicate the ven tilation level you have selec-
ted.
i If the battery voltage is too low, the seat
ventilation may switch off. X
Make sure that the key is in position 1or
2 in the ignition lock.
X To switch on: press button:repeatedly
until the desired ventilation level is set. i
Coupé: you can open the side windows
and the panoram asliding sunroof with the
key (Y page 75). The seat ventilation of the
driver's seat automatically switches to the
highes tlevel.
Cabriolet: you can open the soft top and the
rear side windows with the key
(Y page 78). The seat ven tilation of the
driver's seat automatically switches to the
highes tlevel.
X To switc hoff:press button :repeatedly
until all th eindicato rlamps go out.
Problems with the seat ventilation The seat ventilation has switched itself off
prematurely or cannot be switched on. The
vehicle's electrical system voltage is too low
because too many electrical consumers are
switched on.
X Switc hoff electrical consumers which you
do not need, such as th erear window heat-

Very hot air can flow out of the AIRSCARF
ven tsin the head restraints when AIRSCARF
is in operation. This can cause burns on unpro-
tected skin near the AIRSCARF vents. Lower
the heating output in good time, when neces-
sary.
The AIRSCARF func tion warms the head and
nec karea of vehicl eoccupants with warm air.
Th ew arm air flows out of the hole sinthe head
rest raints.
The three red indicator lamps in the button
indicate the heating level you have selected. 98

You can use the adjustable fins on the head
restraint to adjust the height of the current of
air blown out according to your height.
Make sure that there are no objects covering
the intake grille on the back of the driver's
seat backrest.
i The blower continues running for seven
seconds to cool down the heating ele-
ments.
i If the battery voltage is too low, AIRSCARF

Important safety notes

Risk of injury
The electrically adjustable steering wheel can
still be adjusted when there is no key in the
ignition lock. Therefore, do not leave children
unsupervised in the vehicle, as they could
become trapped if the steering wheel is adjus-
ted. G
Risk of accident
Only adjust the steering wheel when the vehi-
cle is stationary and do not pull away until the
steering wheel adjustment mechanism is
locked in position. You might otherwise drive
without the steering wheel adjustment mech-
anism being locked in position. As aresult,
you could be distracted from road and traffic
condition sbyanunintentional movement of
the steering wheel and thereby cause an acci-
dent.

when you activa tethe EASY-ENTRY/EXIT fea-
ture.
If there is arisk of someon ebecoming trap-
ped, stop th eadjustmen tprocedure. To ha lt
the procedure:
R move the switch for steering whee ladjust-
ment in the opposite direction to that in
which the steerin gwheel is moving.
R press one of the memory function position
buttons.
Never leave children unsu pervis edin the vehi-
cle. They could open the driver's door and
thereby unintentionally activate the EASY-
ENTRY/EXIT featur eand become trapped.
The EASY-ENTRY/EXIT feature makes getting
in and out of you rvehicle easier. The steering wheel swings upwards when
you:
R
remove the key from the ignition lock
R open the driver' sdoor and the key is in
position 0or 1in the ignition lock
i The steering wheel only moves upwards if
it has not already reached the upper end
stop.
If you inser tthe key int othe ignition lock with
the driver's door closed ,the steering wheel is
automatically moved to the previously set
position.
The last position of the steering wheel is
stored after eac hmanual setting or when you
store the setting with the memory function
(Y page 103).
You can activate and deactivat ethe EASY-
ENTRY/ EXIT feature in th eon-board com-
puter (Y page208).
i If the crash-responsive EASY-EXIT feature
is trigge redinana ccident,the steering col-
um nw ill move upwards when the driver's
door is opened. This occur sirrespective of
th ep osition of the key in the ignition lock.
This makes it easier to exit the vehicle and
rescue the occupants.
The crash-responsive EASY- EXIT feature is
only operational afte ranaccidentif the
EASY-EXIT/ENTRY featur eisactivate din

Adjusting the exterior mirrors G
Risk of accident
The exterior mirrors reduce the size of the
image .Object sare actu ally closer than they
appear. You could misjudge the distance from
vehicles driving behind and cause an acci-
dent, e.g. when changing lane. For this rea-
son, make sure of the actual distance from the
vehicle driving behind by glancing over your
shoulder.
The convex exterior mirrors provide alarger
field of vision.
The exterior mirrors are automatically heated
if the rear window heating is switched on and
the outside temperature is low. X
Make sure that the key is in position 1or
2 in the ignition lock.
X Press button :for the left-hand exterior
mirror or button ;for the right-hand exte-
rior mirror.
The indicator lamp in the corresponding
button lights up in red.
The indicator lamp goes out again after
some time. You can adjust the selected
mirror using adjustmen tbutton =as long
as the indicator lamp is lit.
X Press adjustment button =up, down, to
the right or to the left until the exterior mir-
ror is se ttoaposition which provides you
with agood overview of traffic conditions.

Make sur ethat the exterior mirrors are
always folded out fully while the vehicle is
in motion as they ma yotherwis evibrate.
Resetting the exterior mirrors If the battery has been disconnected or com-
pletely discharged, the exterior mirrors must
be reset. The exterior mirrors will otherwise
not fold in when you select the "Fold in mir-
rors when locking" func tion in the on-board
computer (Y page 209).
X Make sure that the key is in position 1in
the ignition lock.

Folding the exterior mirrors in or out
automatically If the "Fold in mirrors when locking" function
is activated in the on-board computer
(Y page 209):
R the exterior mirrors fold in automatically as
soo nasyou lock the vehicle from the out-
side.
R the exterior mirror sfold out again automat-
ically as soon as you unloc kthe vehicle and
then open the driver's or front-passenger
door.
i The mirrors do not fol dout if they have
been folded in manually.
Exterior mirror out of position If an exterior mirror has been pushed out of
position, proceed as follows:
X Vehicles without electrically folding
exterior mirrors: move the exterior mirror
into the correct position manually.
X Vehicles with electrically folding exte-
rior mirrors: press the mirror-folding but-
ton (Y page 101 )repeatedly until you hear
the mirror engage in position.
The mirror housing is engaged again and
you can adjust the exterior mirror sasusual
(Y page 101). Automatic anti-dazzle mir

Risk of accident
If the incident ligh tfrom headl ampscannot
strike the senso rinthe rear-vie wmirror ,for
instance, when the rea rwindow roller sun-
blind is extended, the mirror' sautomatic anti-
dazzle function will not operate.
Incident light could then blind you. This may
distract you from the traffic conditions and,
as aresult, you may cause an accident. In this
case, adjust the rear-view mirror manually.
The rear-view mirror and the exterior mirror
on the driver' sside automatically go into anti-
dazzle mode if the ignition is switched on and
incident light from headlamps strikes the sen-
sor in the rear-view mirror.
The mirrors do not go into anti-daz zlem ode if
reverse gear is engaged or the interior lighting

the front-passenger side.
X Engage reverse gear.
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger
side moves to the preset parkin gposition.
X Use adjustment button =to adjust the
exterior mirror to aposition which allows
you to see the rea rwheel and the kerb.
The parkin gposition is stored.
i If you shift the transmission to another
position ,the exterior mirror on the front-
passenger side returns to the drivin gposi-
tion.
i You can also stor ethe parkin gposition
using memory button M?.
X With the key in position 2in the igni-
tion lock and with the exterior mirror
on the front-passenger side activated,
use adjustment button =to set the
exterior mirror such that the rear
wheel and ker bare visible.
X Press memory button M? and one of
th ea rrow sona djustment button =
within three seconds.
The parking position is stored if the
exterior mirror does not move.
If the mirror moves out of position, repeat
the steps.
Calling up astore dparkin gposition set-

With the key in position 2in the ignition
lock and the exterior mirror on the front-
passenge rside activated, engage reverse
gear.

With the memory function ,you can store up
to three differen tsettings, e.g. for three dif-
ferent people.

Risk of injury
The memor yfunction can still be used when
the key has been removed. For this reason,
children should never be left unsupervised in
the vehicle. They could otherwise become
trapped when adjusting the seat or the steer-
ing wheel. G
Risk of accident
Only use the memory function on the driver's
side when the vehicle is stationary. Other-
wise, you could be distracted fro mthe traffic
conditions by the steering wheel and seat
moving of their own accord, and as aresult

For reasons of safety, Mercedes-Ben zrecom-
mends that you driv ewith the lights switched
on even during the daytime. In some coun-
tries, operation of the headlamps varies due
to legal requirement sand self-imposed obli-
gations. In these countries, the daytime driv-
ing lights are automatically switche donwhen
the engin eisstarted. Notes on driving abroad
Converting to symmetrical dipped beam
when drivin gabroad: switch the headlamps
to symmetrical dipped beam in countries in
which traffic drives on the opposite side of the
road to the countr ywhere the vehicle is reg-
istered. This prevents oncomi ngtraffic from
being dazzled .Symmetrical lights do not illu-
minate as large an area of the edg eofthe
carriageway.
Convert the headlamps as close to the border
as possible before drivin ginthese countries
(Y page 206).
Converting to asymmetrica ldipped beam
after retu rning: conver tthe headlamps back
to asymmetrical dipped beam as soon as pos-
sible after crossing the border when returning
(Y page 206).
Vehicle swith Intelligent Light System: if
the headlamps are converted to symmetrical
dipped beam, not all light functions are avail- able. "Motorway mode" and the "extended
range foglamps" are deactivated. Light switch

The turn signals ,main-beam headlamps and
the headlamp flasher are operated using the
combination switch (Y page 108).
! Switch off the side lamps and parking
lamp when you leave the vehicle. This pre-
vent sthe battery from discharging.
The exterior lighting (except the side lamps/
parkin glamps) switches off automatically if
you:
R remove the key from the ignition lock
R open the driver' sdoor with the key in posi-
tion 0
If you hear awarning tone when you leave the
vehicle, the lights may still be switched on.

activate/deactivate the "daytime driving
lights" function via the on-boar dcomputer

X To activat ethe daytime drivin glights:
activate the "daytime driving lights" func-
tion via the on-board computer.
X Turn the light switch to c.
When the engine is on: depending on the
ambient light conditions, the daytim edriv-
ing lights or th edipped-bea mheadlamps
are switched on.
When the dipped-beam headlamps are
switched on, the Lindicator lam pinthe
instrumen tcluster lights up.
Automatic headlamps G
Risk of accident
If the light switch is set to c,the dipped-
beam headlamps will not com eonautomati-
cally if it is foggy. This could endanger you and
others. Therefore, turn the light switch to
L in fog.
The automatic headlamp feature is only an
aid. The driver is responsible for the vehicle's
lighting at all times.
X To switch on automatic headlamp
mode: turn the ligh tswitch to c.
Key in position 1in the ignition lock: the
side lamps are switched on or off automat-
ically depending on the brightness of the
ambient light. With the engine running: depending on the
brightness of the ambient light, the daytime
driving lights

or the dipped-beam head-
lamps are switched on or off automatically.
When the dipped-beam headlamps are
switched on, the Lindicator lamp in the
instrument cluster lights up.
Foglamps and rear foglamps Front foglamps
Only vehicles with fron
tfoglamps have the
"Foglamps" func tion. G
Risk of accident
If you suspec tthat drivin gconditions will be
foggy ,turn the light switch to Lbefore you
start your journey. Otherwise, your vehicle
may not be visible and you could endanger
yourself and others.
X To switch on the front foglamps: turn the
key in the ignitio nlock to position 2or start
the engine.
X Tur nthe light switc htoT,Lor
c.
X Press the Nbutton.
The green Nindicator lam pint he inst ru-
ment cluster lights up.
X To switc hoff the fron tfoglamps: press
the N button.
The green Nindicator lamp in the instru-
ment cluster goes out.
i If you switch the engine off (key in posi-
tion 1in the ignition lock) and then restart
it, the previous foglamp settings are
restored.
Rear foglamp
X To switch on the rear foglamp: turn the
key in the ignition lock to position 2or start
the engine.
X Turn the light switch to Lorc.
