creating sparks. Kee pnaked flames away
from the battery ,and do not smoke.

X Manual transmission: engage neutral.

X Switch off al lelectrical consumers (e.g.
radio, blower, etc.).
X Ope nthe bonne t(Ypage 180). X
Slide cover 0046of positive terminal 0047in
the direction of the arrow .
X Connect positive terminal 0047on your vehi-
cle to positive terminal 008Aof dono rbattery
0087 using the jump lead ,beginning with your
ow nb attery.
X Start the engine of the dono rvehicle and
run it at idling speed.
X Connect negative terminal 0088of dono rbat-
tery 0087to earth point 0086of your vehicle
using the jump lead ,connecting the jump
lead to dono rbattery 0087first.
X Start the engine. X
First, remove the jump lead from earth
point 0086and negative terminal 0088,then
from positive terminal 0047and positive ter-
minal 008A,eacht ime disconnecting from the
battery on your ow nvehicle first.
X Have the battery checke dataqualified
specialist workshop, e.g. aMercedes-Benz

R the engine is not running.
R there is abrake system malfunction.

or the vehicle's electrical system.
The powe rsteerin gand the brake force boos-
ter do not work when the engine is not run-
ning .Greate rbraking force will the nbe
required and brake peda ltravel will be longer.
If necessary ,dep ress the brake peda lwithf ull
force.
Before towing away ,makes uret ha tthe steer-
ing can be moved and is not locked.
If yo utow or tow-start anothe rvehicle, its
weight must not exceed the maximum per-
missibl egross vehicl eweigh tofy ourvehicle. G

The vehicl eisbraked when the HOLD function
or DISTRONI CPLUS* is activated .Therefore,
deactivate HOLD and DISTRONI CPLUSift he
vehicl eistobet owed.
It is better to have the vehicl etransported
tha ntoh aveitt owed.
When towing ,obs erve the lega lrequirements
in al lcountrie sconcerned.
! When towing ,pulla wa yslowly and
smoothly. If the tractiv epower is too high,
the vehicles could be damaged.
! Do not us ethe towing ey efor recovery,
as thi scould damage the vehicle. If in
doubt, recover the vehicl ewithac rane.
! Youm aytow the vehicl efor am aximum
of 50 km. Atowing spee dof50k m/h must
not be exceeded.
For towing distances ove r50km, the entire
vehicl emustbel ifted up and transported. !
On vehicles with KEYLESS-GO *, usethe
key instea dofthe Start/Stop button. Turn
the key to position 2in the ignition lock and
shift the automatic transmission to N.Then
tur nthe key back to 0and leav eitinthe
ignition lock.
! Onlysecur ethe tow cable or towing bar
to the towing eyes .You could otherwise
damage the vehicle.
R Vehicle swithana utomatic transmission*
must not be tow-started.

R Th ea utomatic transmission* must be in

the battery is connected and charged. Oth-
erwise:

wrench to the vehicl etool kit. Transporting the vehicle
The towing eyes or traile rcoupling *can be
used to pull the vehicle onto atraile rort rans-
porter if yo uwishtot ransport it.
! Only secure the vehicle by the wheel sor
wheel rims ,not by parts of the vehicle such
as axl eorsteering components. Otherwise,
the vehicle could be damaged.

Note
sonc hanging fuses
The fuses in your vehicl eserv etoc lose down
faulty circuits. If afuseb lows ,allthe compo-
nents on the circuit and thei rfunctions will
fail.
Blown fuses mus tbereplaced with fuses of
the same rating, which yo ucan recognis eby
the colou rand value .The fus eratings are lis-
ted in the fus ealloc ation chart. AMercedes-
Benz Service Centre will be happy to advise
you. G

Only us efuses that have bee napproved for
Mercedes-Benz vehicles and which have the
correct fus erating for the systems con-
cerned. Do not attempt to repai rorbridge
faulty fuses. Otherwise, acircuit overload
could cause afire .H ave the cause trace dand
rectifie dataq ualified specialist workshop,
e.g. aMercedes-Benz Service Centre.
If the newly inserted fus ealsob lows ,havet he
cause trace dand rectifie dataqualified spe-
cialist workshop, e.g. aMercedes-Benz

Risk of accident
If the boiling point of the brake fluid is too low,
vapou rpockets may form in the brake system
whe nthe brakes are applie dhard( e.g .when
driving downhill) .Thisw ould impai rbraking
efficiency.
Have the brake fluid renewed every two years
with abrake fluid that ha sbeena pproved by
Mercedes-Benz and have this confirmed in
the Service Booklet.
The warranty is only valid if yo uhavet he vehi-
cle topped up with an antifreeze/corrosion
inhibitor which ha sbeena pproved by
Mercedes-Benz.

The 24 GHz rada rsensor system requires
separate approva lfor each country .When
yo ua redriving in acountry in which the radar
sensor system is not approved ,you must
deactivate the system using the on-board
compute r(Ypage 120) .The current country
overview can be obtained fro maMercedes-
Benz Service Centre. The rada
rsensor system is automatically
deactivated nea rradio telescop efacilities .If
Distroni cPlus* or PRE-SAFE ®
Brake* are
activated at thi spoint, acorresponding warn-
ing will appear in the multi-functio ndisplay to
tel lyou tha tthe rada rsen sor system is being
switched off .BAS PLUS* is also no longer
available. If the deactivatio ndoesn ot occur
automatically, yo umustd eactivate the radar
sensor system using the on-board computer
