nction of ABS The Anti-lock Brake Sy
stem (ABS) regulates the
brake pressure in critical driving situations:
R During braking, e.g. at full brake application
or insuf ficient tyre traction, the wheels are
pr eve nted from lo cking.
R Vehicle steerability while braking is ensured.
If ABS inter venes when braking, you will feel a
pulsing in the brake pedal. The pulsating brake
pedal can be an indication of hazardous road
conditions and can ser veas a reminder totake
ex tra care while driving. Fu
nction of BAS The Brake Assist Sy
stem (BAS) supports your
eme rgency braking situation with additional
brake forc e.

se veral wheels has reached its grip limit:
R Adapt your driving style to suit the cur rent

Extending
the ball neck fully electrically #
Toextend: pull button 2.
Indicator lamp 1willflash and the mes‐
sage Trailer coupling extending… will appear
on the multifunction displa y.
The ball neck will extend fully electrically. #
Wait until the ball neck has loc ked in place.
When indicator lamp 1is continuously lit,
th e ball neck is securely loc ked in place.
If th e ball neck is not securely loc ked in
place, indicator lamp 1willflash and the
messa geCheck trailer hitch lock will appear
on the multifunction displa y. Re
tracting the ball ne ckfully electrical ly #
Pull button 2.

The ball neck will retract fully electrically. #

le ve l being changed
Ve hicles with le vel control sy stem: the
ve hicle le vel may be changed unin tentional ly,
e.g. by ot her persons. You may become trap‐
ped if you couple up or uncouple a trailer
while theve hicle le vel is changing. In addi‐
tion, other people could become trapped if
th eir limbs are between theve hicle body and
th e tyres or underneath theve hicle.
When coupling up or uncoupling a trailer,
make sure that: #
The doors or tailgate are not opened or
closed. #
You do not initiate the le vel control sys‐
te m and do not operate theDY NA MIC

Turn bayonet coupling 2totheright as far
as it will go. #
Let the cap engage. #
Secure the cable tothe trailer with cable ties
(only if you are using an adap ter cable). #

contact with hot gases or other escaping

closed and call thefire service. &

Have excess engine oil remo ved at a
qu alified specialist workshop. %
Depending on driving style, theve hicle con‐
sumes up to0.8 lof oil per 1000 km. The oil
consum ption may be higher than this when
th eve hicle is new or if you frequently drive
at high engine speeds. #
Turn cap 1anti-clockwise and remo veit. #
Top up the engine oil. #
Replace cap 1and turn it clockwise until it
engages. #
Check the oil le vel again (/ page312). Che

ponent parts in the engine compartment
Cer tain component parts in the engine com‐
partment can be very hot, e.g. the engine,

Check the coolant temp erature display in the

The coolant temp erature must be below
70°C. #
Slowly turn cap 1anti-clockwise torelease

Continue turning cap 1anti-clockwise and
re mo veit.
The coolant le vel is cor rect in thefo llowing
cases:
R ifth e engine is cold, the coolant is up to
mar ker bar 2.
R ifth e engine is warm,th e coolant is up to
1. 5 cm overth e mar ker bar 2. #
If necessar y,top up with coolant that has
been appr ovedfo r Mercedes-Benz.
