KEYLESS-GO functio nofthe key .The key will

battery power. For the purposes of activa-
tion/deactivation, the vehicl edoesn ot have
to be nearby.
X To deactivate: press the&button on
the key twice in rapi dsuccession.
The battery check lamp of the key
(Y page 97 )flashe stwice briefl yand
lights up once ,then KEYLESS-GO is deac-
tivated.
X To activate: press any button on the key or
insert the key into the ignition lock.

inne rsurface of the door handl eonthe
driver's door.

X To lock centrally: touch the outer sensor
surface on one of the door handles.
X To restore the factory settings: press

General notes If the vehicl

If yo uusethe emergency key element to
unlock and open the driver's door or the boot
lid/tailgate, the anti-thef talarm system will
be triggered (Y page 89).96
KeyOpening and closing

There are several ways to deactivate the
alarm:
X To deactivat ethe alarmw ith the key:
press the %or& button on the key.
or
X Insert the key into the ignition lock.
or X To deactivat ethe alarmw ith KEYLESS-
GO: press the Start/Stop button in the igni-
tion lock. The key must be in the vehicle.
or
X Lock or unlock the vehicle using KEYLESS-
GO. The key must be outside the vehicle.
If you unlock the vehicle using the emergency
key element, the fuel filler flap will not be
unlocked automatically.
X To unlock the fuel filler flap: insert the
key into the ignition lock.
Removing the emergency key element X
Push release catch :in the direction of
the arrow and, at the same time, remove
emergenc ykey element ;from the key.

opening in the key in the direction of the
arrow until batter ycompartment cover :
opens. When doing so, do not hold battery
compartment cover :shut.
X Remove batter ycompartment cover :.X
Repeatedly tap the key against your palm
until battery =falls out.
X Inser tthe new batter ywith the positive ter-
minal facing upwards. Use alint-free cloth
to do so.
X Make sure that the surface of the batter yis
free of lint, grease and other contamina-
tion.
X Inser tthe frontt abs of batter ycompart-
ment cover :into the housing and then
press to close it.
X Inser temergenc ykey element ;into the
key.
X Check the function of all key button sonthe

Problems with the key

The engine cannot be
started using the key. The steering lock is mechanically blocked.
X Remove the key and reinsert it into the ignition lock. While doing
this, turn the steering wheel in both directions. The engine cannot be
started using KEYLESS-
GO. The key is in the
vehicle. The vehicle is locked.
X Unlock the vehicle and try to start the vehicle again. There is interference from
apowerful source of radio waves.
X Start your vehicle with the key in the ignition lock. Doors
Important safety notes
United Kingdom only: G
WARNING
When the double locks are activated, the
doors can no longer be opened from the
inside. People in the vehicle can no longer get out, e.g. in hazardous situations. There is a
risk of injury.
Therefore, do not leave any people unsuper-
vised in the vehicle, particularly children, eld-
erly people or people in need of special assis-
tance. Do not activate the double lock when
people are in the vehicle.
If the vehicle has been locked from the out-
side, the double lock function is activated as
standard. It is then not possible to open the
doors from inside the vehicle. You can deac- tivate the double lock function by deactivat-
ing the interior motion sensor (Y page 91).
The doors can then be opened from the inside after the vehicle has been locked from the
outside.
The anti-theft alarm system is triggered if thedoor is opened from the inside. Switch off the
alarm (Y page 89).
All countries: G
WARNING
If children are left unsupervised in the vehicle, they could:
R open doors, thereby endangering other per-
sons or road users
R get out and be struck by oncomingt raffic
R operate vehicle equipment and become

There is arisk of an accident and injury.
When leaving the vehicle ,always take the key
with you and lock the vehicle .Never leave
childre nand animal sunattended in the vehi-
cle. Keep the keys out of the reach of children.
Stow luggage or loads preferably in the boot/
luggage compartment. Observe the loading
guidelines (Y page 342). Unlockinga
nd opening the doors
from the inside
For all countries except the United King-
dom: you can open adoor from inside the
vehicle even if it has been locked.
If the vehicle has previously been locked from
the outside, opening adoor from the inside
willt rigger the anti-theft alarm system.
Switch off the alarm (Y page 89).
United Kingdom only: if the vehicle has
been locked with the key from the outside,
the double-lock function is activated as
standard. It is then not possible to open the
doors from inside the vehicle .You can deac-
tivate the double lock function by deactivat-
ing the interior motion sensor (Y page 91).
The doors can then be opened from the inside after the vehicle has been locked from the
outside. The anti-theft alarm system is trig-
gered if the door is opened from the inside.

For all countries: you can only open the rear
doors from inside the vehicle if they are not
secured by the child-proo flocks (Y page 76). X

If the vehicle has been locked from the out-
side, it cannot be centrally unlocked from the inside.
For all countries except the United King-

door from inside the vehicle if the double-lock

gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter th evehicle interio riftheboot
lid/tailgat eisopen when th eengine is run-
ning, especially if th evehicle is in motion.

The boot lid/tailgat eisequipped with an
automatic reversing feature. It reacts if asolid
object obstructs or restrict sthe boot lid/tail-
gat edurin gthe closin gprocedure .The boot
lid/tailgat eopen sagain automatically. The
automatic reversing function is only an aid
and is no tasubstitut efor your attentiveness
to th eboot lid/tailgat ewhile it is closing. G
