GWARNING
If you open the hood when the drive system
has overheated or during a fire in the engine
compartment, you could come into contact
with hot gases or other escaping operating
fluids. There is a risk of burns.
Let the overheated components cool down
before opening the hood. In the event of a
fire in the engine compartment, keep the
hood closed and call the fire service.
GWARNING
Windshield washer concentrate is highly
flammable. If windshield washer concentrate
gets onto hot components of the engine or
the exhaust system, it can ignite. There is a
risk of fire and injury.
Make sure that windshield washer concen-
trate is not spilled in the vicinity of the filler
neck.

XAdd the premixed washer fluid.
XTo close:press capConto the filler neckuntil it engages.
If the washer fluid level drops below the rec-ommended minimum of 1 liter, a messageappears in the multifunction display promptingyou to add washer fluid (Ypage 228).

iThe ASSYST PLUS service interval displaydoes not show any information on theengine oil level. Observe the notes on theengine oil level (Ypage 274).
The multifunction display shows a servicemessage for several seconds, e.g.:

Resetting the ASSYST PLUS service
interval display
!If the ASSYST PLUS service interval dis-play has been inadvertently reset, this set-ting can be corrected at a qualified special-ist workshop.
Have service work carried out as describedin the Maintenance Booklet. This may other-wise lead to increased wear and damage tothe major assemblies or the vehicle.
A qualified specialist workshop, e.g. an author-ized Mercedes-Benz Center, will reset theASSYST PLUS service interval display after theservice work has been carried out. You canalso obtain further information on mainte-nance work, for example.
Special service requirements
The specified maintenance interval takes onlythe normal operation of the vehicle intoaccount. Under arduous operating conditionsor increased load on the vehicle, maintenancework must be carried out more frequently, forexample:
Rregular city driving with frequent intermedi-ate stops
Rif the vehicle is primarily used to travel shortdistances
Ruse in mountainous terrain or on poor roadsurfaces
Rif the engine is often left idling for long peri-ods
Rin particularly dusty conditions, or if air-recirculation mode is frequently used
In these or similar operating conditions, havethe interior filter, engine air cleaner, engine oil
and oil filter, for example, changed more fre-quently. Under arduous operating conditions,the tires must be checked more often. Furtherinformation can be obtained at a qualified spe-cialist workshop, e.g. an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center.

Do not touch the surfaces and films withhard objects, e.g. rings or ice scrapers. Oth-erwise, you may scratch or damage the sur-faces and films.
!Do not park your vehicle for a long periodof time directly after cleaning, particularlyafter cleaning the wheel rim with wheelcleaner. Wheel cleaner can lead to theincreased corrosion of the brake discs andpads. Therefore, drive for a few minutesafter cleaning. By heating up the brakes, thebrake discs and pads dry. The vehicle canthen be parked for a long period of time.
Regular care of your vehicle is a condition forretaining the quality in the long term.
Use care products and cleaning agents recom-mended and approved by Mercedes-Benz.

Cleaning the paintwork

Scratches, corrosive deposits, areas affectedby corrosion and damage caused by inade-quate care cannot always be completelyrepaired. In such cases, visit a qualified spe-cialist workshop.
XRemove dirt immediately, where possible,while avoiding rubbing too hard.
XSoak insect remains with insect removerand rinse off the treated areas afterwards.
XSoak bird droppings with water and rinse offthe treated areas afterwards.
XRemove tree resin, oils, fuels and greases byrubbing gently with a cloth soaked in petro-leum ether or lighter fluid
XRemove coolant and brake fluid with a moistcloth and clear water.
XUse tar remover to remove tar stains.
XUse silicone remover to remove wax.
If water no longer forms "beads" on the paintsurface, use the paint care products recom-mended and approved by Mercedes-Benz. Thisis the case approximately every three to fivemonths, depending on the climate conditionsand the care product used.
If dirt has penetrated the paint surface or ifthe paint has become dull, the paint cleanerrecommended and approved by Mercedes-Benz should be used.
Do not use these care products in the sun oron the hood while the hood is hot.
XUse a suitable touch-up stick, e.g. MBTouch-Up Stick, to repair slight damage tothe paintwork quickly and provisionally.
Matte finish care
!Never polish the vehicle or the light alloywheels. Polishing causes the finish to shine.
!The following can give the paint a glossyappearance and thus reduce the matteffect:
RRubbing hard with unsuitable agents
RWashing the vehicle in direct sunlight
!Never use paint cleaner, buffing or polish-ing products, or gloss preserver, e.g. wax,for the purpose of paintwork care. Theseproducts are only suitable for high-gloss sur-faces. Their use on vehicles with mattepaintwork leads to considerable surfacedamage or, more specifically, to shiny, spot-ted areas.
Always have paintwork repairs carried out ata qualified specialist workshop.
!Only use automatic car washes which cor-respond to the latest technological stand-ards. Never use wash programs which finishby treating the vehicle with hot wax.
Observe these notes if your vehicle has a clearmatte finish. This will help you to avoid dam-age to the paintwork due to incorrect treat-ment.

Use only insect remover and car shampoofrom the range of care products approved byMercedes-Benz.
Cleaning the decorative film
!The following may have an effect on theservice life and color of decorative film:

!Do not use any types of polish on mattdecorative film. Polishing surfaces coveredwith film gives it a shiny finish.
!Do not treat matt or structured decorativefilm with wax. This may lead to marks thatcannot be removed.
Observe the notes in the section on the careand treatment of matte paintwork(Ypage 280), these notes also apply to mattedecorative film.
To clean, use plenty of water and a mild clean-ing agent without additional or abrasive prod-ucts, e.g. use a car shampoo approved forMercedes-Benz.
XDry vehicles covered with film using a soft,absorbent cloth after every wash.Water marks could otherwise form.

The Paint Cleaner cleaning product, which hasbeen approved and recommended byMercedes-Benz, should be used when dirt has
penetrated the decorative film surface or thedecorative film has become dull.
The manufacturer can provide you with infor-mation on special care and cleaning products.
Laminated surfaces may exhibit optical differ-ences to surfaces which were not protected bya decorative film when the decorative film isremoved.
iHave work or repairs on decorative filmcarried out at a qualified specialist work-shop. Mercedes-Benz recommends that youuse an authorized Mercedes-Benz Center forthis purpose.

Cleaning the wheels
GWARNING
The water jet from a circular jet nozzle (dirt
blasters) can cause invisible exterior dam-
age to the tires or chassis components.
Components damaged in this way may fail
unexpectedly. There is a risk of an accident.
Do not use power washers with circular jet
nozzles to clean the vehicle. Have damaged
tires or chassis components replaced imme-
diately.
!Do not use acidic wheel cleaning productsto remove brake dust. This could damagewheel bolts and brake components.
!Do not park your vehicle for a long periodof time directly after cleaning, particularlyafter cleaning the wheel rim with wheelcleaner. Wheel cleaner can lead to theincreased corrosion of the brake discs andpads. Therefore, drive for a few minutesafter cleaning. By heating up the brakes, thebrake discs and pads dry. !Do not use dry cloths, abrasive products,solvents or cleaning agents containing sol-vents to clean the inside of the windows. Donot touch the insides of the windows withhard objects, e.g. an ice scraper or ring.There is otherwise a risk of damaging thewindows.
!Clean the water drainage channels of thewindshield and the rear window at regularintervals. Deposits such as leaves, petalsand pollen may under certain circumstancesprevent water from draining away. This canlead to corrosion damage and damage toelectronic components.
XClean the inside and outside of the windowswith a damp cloth and a cleaning productthat is recommended and approved byMercedes-Benz.
Cleaning wiper blades
GWARNING

!Hold the wiper arm securely when foldingback. The windshield could be damaged ifthe wiper arm smacks against it suddenly.
XFold the windshield wiper arms away fromthe windshield.
XCarefully clean the wiper blades with adamp cloth.
XFold the windshield wiper arms back againbefore switching on the ignition.
Cleaning the exterior lighting
!Only use cleaning agents or cleaningcloths that are suitable for plastic lenses.Caustic, irritant or otherwise unsuitablecleaning agents or cleaning cloths couldscratch or damage the exterior lighting plas-tic lenses.
XClean the plastic lenses of the exterior lightswith a wet sponge and a mild cleaningagent, e.g. Mercedes-Benz car shampoo orcleaning cloths.
Cleaning the mirror turn signals
!Only use cleaning agents or cleaningcloths that are suitable for plastic lenses.Unsuitable cleaning agents or cleaningcloths could scratch or damage the plasticlenses of the mirror turn signals.
XClean the plastic lenses of the mirror turnsignals in the exterior mirror housing using awet sponge and mild cleaning agent, e.g.Mercedes-Benz car shampoo or cleaningcloths.
Cleaning the sensors
!If you clean the sensors with a powerwasher, make sure that you keep a distanceof at least 11.8 in (30 cm) between the vehi-cle and the power washer nozzle. Informa-tion about the correct distance is availablefrom the equipment manufacturer.

!Do not clean the camera lens and the areaaround the rear view camera with a powerwasher.

Cleaning the exhaust pipes
GWARNING
The exhaust tail pipe and tail pipe trim can
become very hot. If you come into contact
with these parts of the vehicle, you could
burn yourself. There is a risk of burns.
Always be particularly careful and supervise
children closely around the exhaust pipe and
the exhaust pipe trims. Allow these compo-
nents to cool down before touching them.
!Do not clean the exhaust pipe with acid-based cleaning agents, such as bathroomcleaner or wheel cleaner.
!Mercedes‑AMG vehicles with black tail-pipes: black chrome trims must not be pol-ished with a chrome polish as this will causethem to lose their black shine. For optimalcare, the faceplates should be rubbed with alightly oiled cloth after every car wash. Com-mercially available engine oils and care oilsare suitable for use.
For heavier soiling, you can apply a finepaintwork polish with a microfiber cloth.Remove the excess polish residue after pol-ishing.
Impurities combined with the effects of roadgrit and corrosive environmental factors maycause flash rust to form on the surface. Youcan restore the original shine of the exhaustpipe by cleaning it regularly, especially in win-ter and after washing.
XClean the exhaust pipe with a care producttested and approved by Mercedes-Benz.
Interior care
Cleaning the display
!For cleaning, do not use any of the follow-ing:
Ralcohol-based thinner or gasoline
Rabrasive cleaning agents
Rcommercially-available household clean-ing agents
These may damage the display surface. Donot put pressure on the display surface

Cleaning the plastic trim
GWARNING
Care products and cleaning agents contain-
ing solvents cause surfaces in the cockpit to
become porous. As a result, plastic parts
may come loose in the event of air bag
deployment. There is a risk of injury.
Do not use any care products and cleaning
agents to clean the cockpit.
!Never attach the following to plastic surfa-ces:

Rperfume oil container or similar
You could otherwise damage the plastic.
!Do not allow cosmetics, insect repellent orsunscreen to come into contact with theplastic trim. This maintains the high-qualitylook of the surfaces.
XWipe the plastic trim with a damp, lint-freecloth, e.g. a microfiber cloth.
XHeavy soiling:use care and cleaning prod-ucts recommended and approved byMercedes-Benz.The surface may change color temporarily.Wait until the surface is dry again.
Cleaning the steering wheel and gear
or selector lever
XThoroughly wipe with a damp cloth or useleather care agents that have been recom-mended and approved by Mercedes-Benz.
Cleaning genuine wood and trim ele-
ments
!Do not use solvent-based cleaning agentssuch as tar remover, wheel cleaners, pol-ishes or waxes. There is otherwise a risk ofdamaging the surface.
!Do not use chrome polish on trim pieces.The trim pieces have a chrome look but aremostly made of anodized aluminum and canlose their shine if chrome polish is used.Use a damp, lint-free cloth instead whencleaning the trim pieces.
If the chrome-plated trim pieces are verydirty, you can use a chrome polish. If youare unsure as to whether the trim pieces arechrome-plated or not, consult an authorizedMercedes-Benz Center.
XWipe the wooden trim and trim pieces witha damp, lint-free cloth, e.g. a microfibercloth.
XHeavy soiling:use care and cleaning prod-ucts recommended and approved byMercedes-Benz.
Cleaning the seat covers
General notes
!Do not use a microfiber cloth to clean cov-ers made out of real leather, artificial leatheror DINAMICA. If used often, these can dam-age the cover.
Note that regular care is essential to ensurethat the appearance and comfort of the coversis retained over time.
Genuine leather seat covers
!To retain the natural appearance of theleather, observe the following cleaninginstructions:
RClean genuine leather covers carefullywith a damp cloth and then wipe the cov-ers down with a dry cloth.
RMake sure that the leather does notbecome soaked. It may otherwise becomerough and cracked.
ROnly use leather care agents that havebeen tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz. You can obtain these from a quali-fied specialist workshop.
Leather is a natural product.

Seat covers of other materials
!Observe the following when cleaning:
Rclean artificial leather covers with a clothmoistened with a solution containing 1%detergent (e.g. dish washing liquid).
Rclean cloth covers with a microfiber clothmoistened with a solution containing 1%detergent (e.g. dish washing liquid). Rubcarefully and always wipe entire seat sec-tions to avoid leaving visible lines. Leavethe seat to dry afterwards. Cleaningresults depend on the type of dirt andhow long it has been there.
Rclean DINAMICA covers with a dampcloth. Make sure that you wipe entire seatsections to avoid leaving visible lines.
Cleaning the seat belts
GWARNING
Seat belts can become severely weakened if
bleached or dyed. This could cause the seat
belts to tear or fail, for instance, in the event
of an accident. This poses an increased risk
of injury or fatal injury.
Never bleach or dye the seat belts.
!Do not clean the seat belts using chemicalcleaning agents. Do not dry the seat beltsby heating at temperatures above 176 ‡(80 †) or in direct sunlight.
XUse clean, lukewarm water and soap solu-tion.
Cleaning the headliner and carpets
XHeadliner:if it is very dirty, use a soft brushor dry shampoo.
XCarpets:use the carpet and textile cleaningagents recommended and approved byMercedes-Benz.

Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Do
not inhale any battery gases. Do not lean
over the battery. Keep children away from
batteries. Wash away battery acid immedi-
ately with plenty of clean water and seek
medical attention.

Batteries contain pollutants.
It is illegal to dispose of
them with the household
rubbish. They must be col-
lected separately and dis-
posed of in an environmen-

!You should have all work involving the bat-tery carried out at a qualified specialistworkshop. In the exceptional case that it isnecessary for you to disconnect the batteryyourself, make sure that:
Rswitch off the engine and remove theSmartKey. On vehicles with KEYLESS-GO,make sure that the ignition is switchedoff. Check that all the indicator lamps inthe instrument cluster are off. Otherwise,electronic components, such as the alter-nator, may be damaged.
Ryou first remove the negative terminalclamp and then the positive terminalclamp. Never swap the terminal clamps.Otherwise, the vehicle's electronic systemmay be damaged.
Rin vehicles with automatic transmission,the transmission is locked in position]after the battery is disconnected. Thevehicle is secured against rolling away.You can then no longer move the vehicle.
The battery and the cover of the positive ter-minal clamp must be installed securely dur-ing operation.
Comply with safety precautions and take pro-tective measures when handling batteries.
Risk of explosion.
Fire, open flames and smoking areprohibited when handling the bat-tery. Avoid creating sparks.
Battery acid is caustic. Avoid con-tact with skin, eyes or clothing.
Wear suitable protective clothing,especially gloves, apron and face-guard.
Rinse any acid spills immediatelywith clear water. Contact a physi-cian if necessary.

Roadside Assistance
Z

monitor warns you if the pressure drops in oneor more of the tires. The tire pressure monitoronly functions if the corresponding sensorsare installed in all wheels.
Information on tire pressures is displayed inthe multifunction display. After a few minutesof driving, the current tire pressure of each tireis shown in theServ.Serv.menu of the multifunc-tion display, see illustration (example).
For information on the message display, referto the "Checking the tire pressure electroni-cally" section (Ypage 313).
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Each tire, including the spare (if provided),
should be checked at least once every two
weeks when cold and inflated to the pres-
sure recommended by the vehicle manufac-
turer on the Tire and Loading Information
placard on the driver's door B-pillar or the
tire pressure label on the inside of the fuel
filler flap. If your vehicle has tires of a differ-
ent size than the size indicated on the Tire
and Loading Information placard or, if availa-
ble, the tire pressure label, you should
determine the proper tire pressure for those
tires.
As an added safety feature, your vehicle has
been equipped with a tire pressure monitor-
ing system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire
pressure telltale when one or more of your
tires are significantly underinflated. Accord-
ingly, when the low tire pressure telltale
lights up, you should stop and check your
tires as soon as possible, and inflate them to
the proper pressure. Driving on a signifi-
cantly underinflated tire causes the tire to
overheat and can lead to tire failure.
Underinflation also reduces fuel efficiency
and tire tread life, and may affect the vehi-
cle's handling and stopping ability. Please
note that the TPMS is not a substitute for
proper tire maintenance, and it is the driv-
er's responsibility to maintain correct tire
pressure, even if underinflation has not
reached the level to trigger illumination of
the TPMS low tire pressure telltale.
Your vehicle has also been equipped with a
TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate
when the system is not operating properly.
The TPMS malfunction indicator is combined
with the low tire pressure telltale. When the
system detects a malfunction, the warning
lamp will flash for approximately a minute
and then remain continuously illuminated.
This sequence will be repeated every time
the vehicle is started as long as the malfunc-
tion exists. When the malfunction indicator
is illuminated, the system may not be able to
detect or signal low tire pressure as inten-
ded.
TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety
of reasons, including the installation of
incompatible replacement or alternate tires
or wheels on the vehicle that prevent the
TPMS from functioning properly. Always
check the TPMS malfunction telltale after
replacing one or more tires or wheels on
your vehicle to ensure that the replacement
or alternate Tires and wheels allow the
TPMS to continue to function properly.
It is the driver's responsibility to set the tirepressure to that recommended for cold tireswhich is suitable for the operating situation(Ypage 307). Note that the correct tire pres-sure for the current operating situation mustfirst be taught-in to the tire pressure monitor.If a substantial loss of pressure occurs, thewarning threshold for the warning message isaligned to the taught-in reference values.Restart the tire pressure monitor after adjust-ing the pressure of the cold tires(Ypage 314).
