GWARNING
If persons, particularly children are subjec-
ted to prolonged exposure to extreme heat
or cold, there is a risk of injury, possibly
even fatal. Never leave children unattended
in the vehicle.
GWARNING
If the child restraint system is subjected to
direct sunlight, parts may get very hot. Chil-
dren may burn themselves on these parts,
particularly on the metal parts of the child
restraint system. There is a risk of injury.
If you leave the vehicle, taking the child with
you, always ensure that the child restraint
system is not exposed to direct sunlight.
Protect it with a blanket, for example. If the
child restraint system has been exposed to
direct sunlight, let it cool down before secur-
ing the child in it. Never leave children unat-
tended in the vehicle.
Child-proof locks for the rear doors
You secure each door individually with thechild-proof locks on the rear doors. A doorsecured with a child-proof lock cannot beopened from inside the vehicle. When the vehi-cle is unlocked, the door can be opened fromthe outside.
XTo activate:press the child-proof lock leverup in the direction of arrow C.
XMake sure that the child-proof locks areworking properly.
XTo deactivate:press the child-proof locklever down in the direction of arrow D.
Override feature for the rear side win-
dows
XTo activate/deactivate:press button C.If indicator lamp Dis lit, operation of therear side windows is disabled. Operation isonly possible using the switches in the driv-er's door. If indicator lamp Dis off, opera-tion is possible using the switches in therear compartment.
Pets in the vehicle
GWARNING
If you leave animals unsupervised or unse-
cured in the vehicle, they may press buttons
or switches, for instance.
In this way, animals may:
Ractivate vehicle equipment and become
trapped, for example
Rswitch systems on or off and thereby
endanger other road users
Furthermore, unsecured animals may be
flung around inside the vehicle in the event
of an accident or abrupt steering or braking
maneuver, and thereby injure vehicle occu-
pants. There is a risk of accident and injury.
Never leave animals unattended in the vehi-
cle.
Always secure animals properly when driv-
ing, for instance with a suitable pet carrier.

When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. This
also applies for the Digital Vehicle Key if the
"Digital Vehicle Key" function is activated via
Mercedes me connect.
You should preferably place luggage or loadsin the cargo compartment. Observe the load-ing guidelines (Ypage 250).
Unlocking and opening doors from
the inside
XTo unlock and open a front door:pull doorhandle D.If the door is locked, locking knob Cpopsup. The door is unlocked and opens.
XTo unlock a rear door:pull up lockingknob C.The door is unlocked and can be opened.
XTo open a rear door:pull door handle D.
You can open a door from inside the vehicleeven if it has been locked. You can only openthe rear doors from inside the vehicle if theyare not secured by the child-proof locks(Ypage 59).
If the vehicle has previously been locked withthe SmartKey from the outside, opening a doorfrom the inside will trigger the anti-theft alarmsystem. Switch off the alarm (Ypage 68).
Centrally locking and unlocking the
vehicle from the inside
You can centrally lock or unlock the vehiclefrom the inside. This can be useful if you wishto lock the vehicle before pulling away, forexample.

XTo unlock:press button C.
XTo lock:press button D.If all the doors and the tailgate are closed,the vehicle locks.
Meanwhile, the fuel filler flap will not belocked or unlocked.
You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally fromthe inside if the vehicle has been locked withthe SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO.
You can open a door from inside the vehicleeven if it has been locked. You can open therear doors from inside the vehicle unless theyare secured by the child-proof lock(Ypage 59).
If the vehicle has previously been locked withthe SmartKey from the outside, opening a doorfrom the inside will trigger the anti-theft alarmsystem. Switch off the alarm (Ypage 68).
If a locked door is opened from the inside, theprevious unlock status of the vehicle will betaken into consideration if:
Rthe vehicle was locked using the lockingbutton for the central locking, or
Rif the vehicle was locked automatically
The vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had pre-viously been fully unlocked. If only the driver'sdoor had been previously unlocked, only thedoor which has been opened from the inside isunlocked.
Automatic locking feature
XTo deactivate:press and hold button Cforapproximately five seconds until a tonesounds.
XTo activate:press and hold button Dforapproximately five seconds until a tonesounds.
If you press one of the two buttons and do nothear a tone, the relevant setting has alreadybeen selected.
The vehicle is locked automatically when theignition is switched on and the wheels areturning.
You could therefore lock yourself out if:
Rthe vehicle is being pushed
Rthe vehicle is being towed
Rthe vehicle is on a roller dynamometer
You can also switch the automatic lockingfunction on and off using the on-board com-puter (Ypage 199).
Unlocking the driver's door (mechan-
ical key)
If the vehicle can no longer be locked orunlocked with the SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO,use the mechanical key.
If you use the mechanical key to unlock andopen the driver's door, the anti-theft alarmsystem will be triggered. Switch off the alarm(Ypage 68).
XTake the mechanical key out of the Smart-Key (Ypage 71).
XInsert the mechanical key into the lock ofthe driver's door as far as it will go.

XPress and hold the 6button until theside windows and the panorama sunroof arein the desired position.If the roller sunblind of the panorama roofwith power tilt/sliding panel is closed, theroller sunblind is opened first.
XPress and hold the 6button once moreuntil the panorama roof with power tilt/slid-ing panel reaches the desired position.

when the convenience closing feature is
operating. Make sure that no body parts are

dure.
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO or KEYLESS-GOstart function:you can do the following at thesame time:
Rlock the vehicle
Rclose the side windows
Rclose the panorama roof with power tilt/sliding panel
On vehicles with a panorama roof with powertilt/sliding panel, you can then close the rollersunblind.

Using the SmartKey
XVehicles with KEYLESS-GO or KEYLESS-GO start function:for the following opera-tions, point the tip of the SmartKey at thehandle on the driver's door. The SmartKeymust be close to the driver's door handle.
iVehicles with KEYLESS-GO or KEYLESS-GO start function:the SmartKey must bein close proximity to the vehicle.
XPress and hold the 7button until theside windows and the panorama sliding sun-roof are fully closed.
XMake sure that all the side windows and thepanorama roof with power tilt/sliding panelare closed.
On vehicles with a panorama roof with powertilt/sliding panel:
XPress and hold the 7button again untilthe roller sunblind of the panorama slidingsunroof closes.
XTo interrupt convenience closing:releasethe 7button.
Using KEYLESS-GO
The driver's door and the door at which thehandle is used, must both be closed. TheSmartKey must be outside the vehicle. Thegap between the SmartKey and the corre-sponding door handle should not be greaterthan 3 ft (1 m).
XTouch recessed sensor surface Con thedoor handle until the side windows and thepanorama roof with power tilt/sliding panelare fully closed.
iMake sure you only touch recessed sensorsurface C.

Resetting the side windows
If a side window can no longer be closed fully,you must reset it.
XClose all the doors.
XTurn the SmartKey to position Gor Hinthe ignition lock (Ypage 125).
XPull the corresponding switch on the doorcontrol panel until the side window is com-pletely closed (Ypage 84).
XHold the switch for an additional second.
If the side window opens again slightly:
XImmediately pull the corresponding switchon the door control panel until the side win-dow is completely closed (Ypage 84).
XHold the switch for an additional second.
XIf the respective side window remainsclosed after the button is released, then ithas been set correctly. If this is not thecase, repeat the steps above.
Problems with the side windows
GWARNING
If you close a side window again immediately after it has been blocked or reset, the side win-
dow closes with increased or maximum force. The reversing feature is then not active. Parts of
the body could be trapped in the closing area in the process. This poses an increased risk of
injury or even fatal injury.
Make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area. To stop the closing process,
release the switch or push the switch again to reopen the side window.

XImmediately after the window blocks, pull the correspondingswitch again until the side window has closed.The side window is closed without the automatic reversing fea-ture.
The side windows can-not be opened or closedusing the convenienceopening/closing fea-ture.
The SmartKey battery is discharged or nearly discharged.
XCheck the SmartKey battery (Ypage 72) and replace it if neces-sary (Ypage 72).

Important safety notes
In the following section, the term "sliding sun-roof" refers to the panorama roof with powertilt/sliding panel.
GWARNING
While opening and closing the sliding sun-
roof, body parts in close proximity could
become trapped. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the opening and closing
procedures.
If somebody becomes trapped:
Rrelease the switch immediately, or
Rduring automatic operation, push the
switch briefly in any direction
The opening or closing procedure will be
stopped.
GWARNING
If children operate the sliding sunroof they
could become trapped, particularly if they
are left unsupervised. There is a risk of
injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle.
Never leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle.
GWARNING
At high speeds the raised sliding sunroof
automatically lowers slightly at the rear. This
could trap you or other persons. There is a
risk of injury. Make sure that nobody rea-
ches into the sweep of the sliding sunroof
whilst the vehicle is in motion.
If somebody becomes trapped, immediately
pull back the sliding sunroof switch. The
sliding sunroof lifts during opening.

!Only open the sliding sunroof if it is free ofsnow and ice. Otherwise, malfunctions mayoccur.
Do not allow anything to protrude from thesliding sunroof. Otherwise, the seals couldbe damaged.
!The weather can change abruptly. It couldstart to rain or snow. Make sure that thesliding sunroof is closed when you leave thevehicle. The vehicle electronics can be dam-aged if water enters the vehicle interior.
iResonance noises can occur in addition tothe usual airflow noises when the slidingsunroof is open. They are caused by minorpressure fluctuations in the vehicle interior.Change the position of the sliding sunroof oropen a side window slightly to reduce oreliminate these noises.
Sliding sunroof reversing feature
In the following section, the term "sliding sun-roof" refers to the panorama roof with powertilt/sliding panel.
The sliding sunroof is equipped with an auto-matic reversing feature. If a solid object blocksor restricts the sliding sunroof during the clos-ing process, the sliding sunroof opens againautomatically. However, the automatic revers-ing feature is only an aid and does not relieveyou of the responsibility of paying attentionwhen closing the sliding sunroof.
GWARNING
The reverse function does not react in par-
ticular:
Rto soft, light and thin objects, e.g. fingers
Rover the last 1/6 in (4 mm) of the closing
path
Rwhile adjusting
Rwhen closing the sliding sunroof again
manually immediately after automatic
reversing
This means that the reversing feature can-
not prevent someone being trapped in these
situations. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the closing procedure.
If somebody becomes trapped:
Rrelease the button immediately, or
Rbriefly push the button in any direction
during automatic closing.
The closing process is stopped.
GWARNING
If you close the sliding sunroof again imme-
diately after it has been blocked or reset,
the sliding sunroof closes with increased
force.
Parts of the body could be trapped in the
closing area in the process. There is a risk of
injury or becoming trapped.
Make sure that no parts of the body are in
the closing area.
If somebody becomes trapped:
Rrelease the button immediately, or
Rbriefly push the button in any direction
during automatic closing.
The closing process is stopped.

XTurn the SmartKey to position Gor Hinthe ignition lock (Ypage 125).
XPress or pull the Wswitch in the corre-sponding direction.
If you press/pull the Wswitch beyond thepoint of resistance, automatic operation isstarted in the corresponding direction. Youcan stop automatic operation by pressing/pulling the switch again.
After opening the sliding sunroof, the rollersunblind closes slightly automatically. Thisreduces drafts in the vehicle interior.
If the sliding sunroof is raised at the rear, itlowers slightly automatically at higher speeds.The noise level in the vehicle interior isreduced as a result.
At low speeds it raises again automatically.
You can also temporarily deactivate automaticlowering. To do so, press the Wswitch. Thesliding sunroof raises again automatically.
You can continue to operate the sliding sun-roof after switching off the engine or removingthe SmartKey from the ignition lock. This func-tion remains active for five minutes or untilyou open a front door.
The sliding sunroof cannot be opened if a roofcarrier is installed. In order to allow ventilationof the vehicle interior, you can raise the slidingsunroof.
If contact is made with a roof carrier approvedby Mercedes-Benz, the sliding sunroof lowersslightly but remains raised at the rear.
Rain-closing feature
The rain-closing feature is only available forvehicles with a rain sensor.
When the SmartKey is in position Zin theignition lock or is removed, the sliding sunroofcloses automatically:
Rif it starts to rain.
Rat extreme outside temperatures.
Rafter six hours.
Rif there is a malfunction in the power supply.
The panorama roof with power tilt/slidingpanel remains raised at the rear in order toallow ventilation of the vehicle interior.
If the panorama roof with power tilt/slidingpanel is obstructed while being closed by therain-closing feature, it opens again slightly.The rain-closing feature is then deactivated.
The panorama roof with power tilt/slidingpanel does not close if:
Rit is raised at the rear.
Rit is blocked.
Rno rain is falling on the area of the wind-shield being monitored by the rain sensor. Ifthe vehicle, for example, is under a bridge orin a carport, the field of the sensor may becovered.

panorama roof with power tilt/slid-
ing panel
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Parts of the body could become trapped
between the roller sunblind and frame or
sliding sunroof during automatic opening or
closing. There is a risk of injury.
When opening or closing, make sure that no
body parts are in the sweep of the roller
sunblind.
If somebody becomes trapped:
Rrelease the switch immediately, or
Rduring automatic operation, push the
switch briefly in any direction
The opening or closing procedure will be
stopped.
The roller sunblind shields the vehicle interiorfrom sunlight. The roller sunblind can only beopened and closed when the panorama roofwith power tilt/sliding panel is closed.
Roller sunblind reversing feature
The roller sunblind is equipped with an auto-matic reversing feature. If a solid object blocksor restricts the roller sunblind during the clos-ing process, the roller sunblind opens againautomatically. The automatic reversing featureis only an aid and is not a substitute for yourattentiveness when closing the roller sunblind.

GWARNING
If you do not reset the sliding sunroof after a malfunction or a voltage drop, then the reversing
feature will malfunction or not work. The sliding sunroof closes with increased or maximum
force. Parts of the body could be trapped in the closing area in the process. This poses an
increased risk of injury or even fatal injury.
In such or similar situations always make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area.
Always reset the sliding sunroof after a malfunction or a voltage drop.
!If the sliding sunroof still cannot be opened or closed as a result of a malfunction, contact aqualified specialist workshop.

Overview of climate control systems
General notes
Observe the settings recommended on the fol-lowing pages. The windows could otherwisefog up.
To prevent the windows from fogging up:
Rswitch off climate control only briefly
Rswitch on air-recirculation mode only briefly
Rswitch on the cooling with air dehumidifica-tion function
Rswitch on the defrost windshield functionbriefly, if required
The air-conditioning system or dual-zone auto-matic climate control regulates the tempera-ture and the humidity of the vehicle interiorand filters undesirable substances from theair.
The air-conditioning system or dual-zone auto-matic climate control can only be operatedwhen the engine is running. Optimum opera-tion is only achieved with the side windowsand panorama roof with power tilt/slidingpanel closed.
If you start the engine using your smartphone,the last selected climate control setting isreactivated (Ypage 84).
The residual heat function can only be activa-ted or deactivated with the ignition switchedoff (Ypage 122).
Always keep the ventilation flaps behind theside trim panel in the cargo compartmentclear (Ypage 108). Otherwise the vehicle willnot be ventilated correctly.
iVentilate the vehicle for a brief period dur-ing warm weather, e.g. using the conveni-ence opening feature (Ypage 84). This willspeed up the cooling process and thedesired interior temperature will be reachedmore quickly.
iThe integrated filter filters out most parti-cles of dust and soot and completely filtersout pollen. It also reduces gaseous pollu-tants and odors. A clogged filter reduces theamount of air supplied to the vehicle inte-rior. For this reason, you should alwaysobserve the interval for replacing the filter,which is specified in the Maintenance Book-let. As it depends on environmental condi-tions, e.g. heavy air pollution, the intervalmay be shorter than stated in the Mainte-nance Booklet.
iIt is possible that under certain circum-stances the residual heat function may beactivated automatically an hour after theSmartKey has been removed in order to drythe automatic climate control. The vehicle isthen ventilated for 30 minutes.
