XStop the vehicle without making any sudden steering or brakingmaneuvers. Pay attention to the traffic conditions as you do so.
XSecure the vehicle against rolling away (Ypage 145).
XCheck the tires and, if necessary, follow the instructions for a flattire (Ypage 287).

ABS is temporarily unavailable. Therefore, BAS, Active Brake Assist, ESP®, EBD(electronic brake force distribution), the HOLD function and hill start assist, forexample, are also deactivated.

RSelf-diagnosis is not yet complete
RThe on-board voltage may be insufficient
ATTENTION ASSIST is deactivated.
GWARNING
The brake system continues to function normally, but without the functions lis-ted above. The front and rear wheels could therefore lock if you perform a fullbrake application, for example.
The steerability and braking characteristics may be severely affected. The brak-ing distance in an emergency braking situation can increase.
If ESP®is not operational, ESP®is unable to stabilize the vehicle.
There is a risk of an accident.
XCarefully drive a suitable distance, making slight steering movements at aspeed above 12 mph (20 km/h).The functions mentioned above are available again when the warning lampgoes out.
If the warning lamp is still on:
XObserve the additional display messages in the multifunction display.
XDrive on carefully.
XVisit a qualified specialist workshop immediately.
%QThe yellow ABS warning lamp is lit while the engine is running. A warningtone also sounds.
EBD is malfunctioning. Therefore, ABS, BAS, Active Brake Assist, ESP®, theHOLD function and hill start assist, for example, are not available either.
ATTENTION ASSIST is deactivated.

The brake system continues to function normally, but without the functions lis-ted above. The front and rear wheels could therefore lock if you perform a fullbrake application, for example.

Call priority
When service calls are active, e.g. RoadsideAssistance or MB Info calls, an emergency callcan still be initiated. In this case, an emer-gency call will take priority and override allother active calls.
The indicator lamp of the respective buttonflashes until the call is ended.
An emergency call can only be terminated bythe Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Cen-ter.
All other calls can be ended by pressing:
Rthevbutton on the multifunction steer-ing wheel
Rthe corresponding button in the multimediasystem to end the voice call
iWhen a call is initiated, the audio systemis muted. The mobile phone is no longerconnected to the multimedia system. How-ever, if you want to use your mobile phone,do so only when the vehicle is stationaryand in a safe location.
Downloading destinations in COMAND
Downloading destinations
Downloading destinations gives you access toa database with over 15 million points of inter-est (POIs). These can be downloaded on thenavigation system in your vehicle. If you knowthe destination, the address can be downloa-ded. Alternatively, you can obtain the locationof Points of Interest (POIs)/important destina-tions in the vicinity.
Furthermore, you can download routes with upto 20 way points.
You are prompted to confirm route guidanceto the address entered.
The system calculates the route and subse-quently starts the route guidance with theaddress entered.
iIf you selectNoNo, the address can be savedin the address book.
iThe Destination Download function isavailable if the relevant mobile phone net-work is available and data transfer is possi-ble.
iThe Destination Download function canonly be used if the vehicle is equipped witha navigation system.
Route Assistance
This service is part of the Mercedes me con-nect PLUS Package and cannot be obtainedseparately.
iYou can also use the Route Assistancefunction if your vehicle is not equipped witha navigation system.

GWARNING
Functions relevant to safety are restricted or
no longer available if:
Rthe engine is not running
Rthe brake system or the power steering is
malfunctioning
Rthere is a malfunction in the power supply
or the vehicle's electrical system
When your vehicle is towed away or towed
started, you may require considerably more
effort to steer and brake. There is a risk of
an accident.
In such cases, use a tow bar. Before being
towed away or tow started, make sure the
steering moves freely.

Cleaning the plastic trim
GWARNING
Care products and cleaning agents contain-
ing solvents cause surfaces in the cockpit to
become porous. As a result, plastic parts
may come loose in the event of air bag
deployment. There is a risk of injury.
Do not use any care products and cleaning
agents to clean the cockpit.
!Never attach the following to plastic surfa-ces:
Rstickers
Rfilms
Rperfume oil container or similar
You could otherwise damage the plastic.
!Do not allow cosmetics, insect repellent orsunscreen to come into contact with theplastic trim. This maintains the high-qualitylook of the surfaces.
XWipe the plastic trim with a damp, lint-freecloth, e.g. a microfiber cloth.
XHeavy soiling:use care and cleaning prod-ucts recommended and approved byMercedes-Benz.The surface may change color temporarily.Wait until the surface is dry again.
Cleaning the steering wheel and gear
or selector lever
XThoroughly wipe with a damp cloth or useleather care agents that have been recom-mended and approved by Mercedes-Benz.
Cleaning genuine wood and trim ele-
ments
!Do not use solvent-based cleaning agentssuch as tar remover, wheel cleaners, pol-ishes or waxes. There is otherwise a risk ofdamaging the surface.
!Do not use chrome polish on trim pieces.The trim pieces have a chrome look but aremostly made of anodized aluminum and canlose their shine if chrome polish is used.Use a damp, lint-free cloth instead whencleaning the trim pieces.
If the chrome-plated trim pieces are verydirty, you can use a chrome polish. If youare unsure as to whether the trim pieces arechrome-plated or not, consult an authorizedMercedes-Benz Center.
XWipe the wooden trim and trim pieces witha damp, lint-free cloth, e.g. a microfibercloth.
XHeavy soiling:use care and cleaning prod-ucts recommended and approved byMercedes-Benz.
Cleaning the seat covers
General notes
!Do not use a microfiber cloth to clean cov-ers made out of real leather, artificial leatheror DINAMICA. If used often, these can dam-age the cover.
Note that regular care is essential to ensurethat the appearance and comfort of the coversis retained over time.
Genuine leather seat covers
!To retain the natural appearance of theleather, observe the following cleaninginstructions:
RClean genuine leather covers carefullywith a damp cloth and then wipe the cov-ers down with a dry cloth.
RMake sure that the leather does notbecome soaked. It may otherwise becomerough and cracked.
ROnly use leather care agents that havebeen tested and approved by Mercedes-Benz. You can obtain these from a quali-fied specialist workshop.
Leather is a natural product.

Maintenance and care

Important safety notes
GWARNING
When you drive in emergency mode, the
handling characteristics are impaired. e.g.
when cornering, when accelerating strongly
and when braking. There is a risk of an acci-
dent.
Do not exceed the maximum specified
speed. Avoid any abrupt steering and driving
maneuvers as well as driving over obstacles
(curbs, pot holes, off-road). This applies, in
particular, to a loaded vehicle.
Stop driving in emergency mode if you
notice:
Rbanging noise
Rvehicle vibration
Rsmoke which smells like rubber
Rcontinuous ESP®intervention
Rcracks in the tire side walls
After driving in emergency mode, have the
rims checked by a qualified specialist work-
shop with regard to their further use. The
defective tire must be replaced in every
case.
TIREFIT kit
Important safety notes
TIREFIT is a tire sealant.
For USA only:You can use TIREFIT to sealpunctures of up to 0.16 in (4 mm), particularlythose in the tire tread. You can use TIREFIT atoutside temperatures down to

XTo reduce the tire pressure:depress pres-sure release buttonCnext to pressuregaugeD.
XWhen the tire pressure is correct, unscrewthe filler hose from the valve of the sealedtire.Note that tire sealant may escape when youunscrew the filler hose.
XScrew the valve cap onto the tire valve ofthe sealed tire.
XPull the tire sealant bottle out of the tireinflation compressor.
The filler hose remains attached to the tiresealant bottle.
XDrive to the nearest qualified specialistworkshop and have the tire changed there.
XHave the tire sealant bottle replaced assoon as possible at a qualified specialistworkshop.
XHave the tire sealant bottle replaced everyfour years at a qualified specialist workshop.
Battery (vehicle)
Important safety notes
Special tools and expert knowledge arerequired when working on the battery, e.g.removal and installation. You should thereforehave all work involving the battery carried outat a qualified specialist workshop.
GWARNING
Work carried out incorrectly on the battery
can lead, for example, to a short circuit and
thus damage the vehicle electronics. This
can lead to function restrictions applying to
safety-relevant systems, e.g. the lighting
system, the ABS (anti-lock braking system)
or the ESP®(Electronic Stability Program).
The operating safety of your vehicle may be
restricted.
You could lose control of the vehicle, for
example:
Rwhen braking
Rin the event of abrupt steering maneuvers
and/or when the vehicle's speed is not
adapted to the road conditions
There is a risk of an accident.
In the event of a short circuit or a similar
incident, contact a qualified specialist work-
shop immediately. Do not drive any further.
You should have all work involving the bat-
tery carried out at a qualified specialist
workshop.
For further information about ABS and ESP®,see (Ypage 60) and (Ypage 63).
GWARNING
Electrostatic build-up can lead to the crea-
tion of sparks, which could ignite the highly
explosive gases of a battery. There is a risk
of an explosion.
Before handling the battery, touch the vehi-
cle body to remove any existing electrostatic
build-up.
The highly flammable gas mixture forms whencharging the battery as well as when jump-starting.
Always make sure that neither you nor the bat-tery is electrostatically charged. A build-up ofelectrostatic charge can be caused, for exam-ple:
Rby wearing clothing made from syntheticfibers
Rdue to friction between clothing and seats
Rif you push or pull the battery across thecarpet or other synthetic materials
Rif you rub the battery with a cloth
GWARNING
During the charging process, a battery pro-
duces hydrogen gas. If a short circuit occurs

Towing and tow-starting
Important safety notes
GWARNING
Functions relevant to safety are restricted or
no longer available if:
Rthe engine is not running
Rthe brake system or the power steering is
malfunctioning
Rthere is a malfunction in the power supply
or the vehicle's electrical system
When your vehicle is towed away or towed
started, you may require considerably more
effort to steer and brake. There is a risk of
an accident.
In such cases, use a tow bar. Before being
towed away or tow started, make sure the
steering moves freely.
GWARNING
You can no longer steer the vehicle if the
steering wheel lock has been engaged.
There is a risk of an accident.
Always switch off the ignition when towing
the vehicle with a tow cable or a tow bar.
GWARNING
When towing or tow-starting another vehicle
and its weight is greater than the permissi-
ble gross weight of your vehicle, the:
Rthe towing eye could detach itself
Rthe vehicle/trailer combination could roll-
over.
There is a risk of an accident.
When towing or tow-starting another vehi-
cle, its weight should not be greater than
the permissible gross weight of your vehicle.
Details on the permissible gross vehicle weightof your vehicle can be found on the vehicleidentification plate (Ypage 333).
!When Active Brake Assist, Active DistanceAssist DISTRONIC or the HOLD function isactivated, the vehicle brakes automaticallyin certain situations.
To avoid damage to the vehicle, deactivatethese systems in the following or similar sit-uations:
Rwhen towing the vehicle
Rin the car wash
!Make sure that the electric parking brakeis released. If the electric parking brake isfaulty, visit a qualified specialist workshop.
!Only secure the tow rope or tow bar at thetowing eyes. Otherwise, the vehicle could bedamaged.
!Do not use the towing eyes for recoverypurposes as this could damage the vehicle.If in doubt, recover the vehicle with a crane.
!When towing, pull away slowly andsmoothly. If the tractive power is too high,the vehicles could be damaged.
!The vehicle can be towed a maximum of30 miles (50km). The towing speed of30 mph (50km/h) must not be exceeded.
If the vehicle has to be towed more than30 miles (50km), the front axle must beraised or the entire vehicle raised and trans-ported.
!Do not tow with sling-type equipment. Thiscould damage the vehicle.
!When towing away vehicles with KEYLESS-GO, use the key instead of the Start/Stopbutton. The automatic transmission mayotherwise shift to position]when youopen the driver's or front-passenger door,which could damage the transmission.
!Vehicles with automatic transmission mustnot be started by tow-starting. This couldotherwise damage the transmission.
It is better to have the vehicle transportedthan to have it towed away.
If the vehicle can no longer be driven becauseof an accident or breakdown, you have the fol-lowing options:
RTransporting the vehicle.
As a rule, you should have the vehicle trans-ported.
RTowing the vehicle with a tow rope or towbar.
Only tow the vehicle in exceptional cases.
