12 V sockets
General notes
XTurn the SmartKey to position Gin the igni-tion lock (Ypage 131).
The sockets can be used for accessories with amaximum draw of 180 W (15 A). Accessoriesinclude such items as chargers for mobilephones.
If you use the sockets for long periods when theengine is switched off, the battery may dis-charge.
An emergency cut-out ensures that the on-board voltage does not drop too low. If the on-board voltage is too low, the power to the sock-ets is automatically cut. This ensures that thereis sufficient power to start the engine.
If you have connected a device to the 12 Vsocket, leave the cover of the stowage com-partment open. This prevents the cover frombeing blocked.

115 V socket
Important safety notes
GDANGER
When a suitable device is connected, the
115 V power socket will be carrying a high
voltage. You could receive an electric shock if
the connector cable or the 115 V power
socket is pulled out of the trim or is damaged
or wet. There is a risk of fatal injury.
RUse only connector cables that are dry and
free of damage.
RWhen the ignition is off, make sure that the
115 V power socket is dry.

Familiarize yourself with the garage door driveoperating instructions, for example under "Pro-gramming additional remote controls", beforecarrying out the following steps.
Your vehicle must be within reach of the garagedoor or gate opener drive. Make sure that nei-ther your vehicle nor any persons/objects arepresent within the sweep of the door or gate.
XTurn the SmartKey to position Hin the igni-tion lock (Ypage 131).
XGet out of the vehicle.
XPress the programming button on the doordrive unit.
Usually, you now have 30 secondsto initiatethe next step.

Engine compartment
Hood
Important safety notes
GWARNING
If the hood is unlatched, it may open up when
the vehicle is in motion and block your view.
There is a risk of an accident.
Never unlatch the hood while driving. Before
every trip, ensure that the hood is locked.
GWARNING
When opening and closing the hood, it may
suddenly fall into the closed position. There is
a risk of injury to persons within range of
movement of the hood.
Open and close the hood only when no one is
within its range of movement.
GWARNING
Opening the hood when the engine is over-
heated or when there is a fire in the engine
compartment could expose you to hot gases
or other service products. There is a risk of
injury.
Let an overheated engine cool down before
opening the hood. If there is a fire in the
engine compartment, keep the hood closed
and contact the fire department.
GWARNING
The engine compartment contains moving
components. Certain components, such as
the radiator fan, may continue to run or start
again suddenly when the ignition is off. There
is a risk of injury.
If you need to do any work inside the engine
compartment:
Rswitch off the ignition

When the hood is open and the windshield
wipers are set in motion, you can be injured by
the wiper linkage. There is a risk of injury.
Always switch off the windshield wipers and
the ignition before opening the hood.
!Make sure that the windshield wipers arenot folded away from the windshield. Youcould otherwise damage the windshield wip-ers or the hood.
XMake sure that the windshield wipers areturned off.

The following cause engine failure or damageto the exhaust system:
RUse of engine oils and oil filters that havenot been expressly approved for the servicesystem
RReplacement of engine oil and oil filter afterthe replacement interval specified by theservice system has expired
RUse of engine oil additives
!Do not add too much oil. adding too muchengine oil can result in damage to the engineor to the catalytic converter. Have excessengine oil siphoned off.
Add engine oil (example)
XTurn cap Ccounter-clockwise and remove it.
XAdd engine oil.If the oil level is at or below the MIN mark onthe oil dipstick, add 1.1 US qt (1.0l)of engineoil.
XReplace cap Con the filler neck and tightenclockwise.Ensure that the cap locks into place securely.
XCheck the oil level again with the oil dipstick(Ypage 301).

eyewear when opening. Open the cap slowly
to release pressure.
GWARNING
Opening the hood when the engine is over-
heated or when there is a fire in the engine
compartment could expose you to hot gases
or other service products. There is a risk of
injury.
Let an overheated engine cool down before
opening the hood. If there is a fire in the
engine compartment, keep the hood closed
and contact the fire department.

Checking coolant level
Checking the coolant level (example)
XPark the vehicle on a level surface.
Only check the coolant level when the vehicleis on a level surface and the engine has cooleddown.
XTurn the SmartKey to position Hin the igni-tion lock (Ypage 131).

XPress the Start/Stop button twice on vehicleswith KEYLESS-GO or the KEYLESS-GO startfunction (Ypage 132).
XCheck the coolant temperature display in theinstrument cluster (Ypage 36).The coolant temperature must be below158 ‡ (70 †).
XTurn the SmartKey to position Zin the igni-tion lock (Ypage 131).

Do not remove the SmartKey from the igni-tion lock. Do not open the driver's doorwhen the engine is switched off or at verylow speeds. Otherwise, when in transmis-sion position [or ^, the automatictransmission will automatically switch topark position ]and block the wheels.
ROperating with the Start/Stop button:
Do not open the driver's door when theengine is switched off or at very lowspeeds. Otherwise, when in transmissionposition [or ^, the automatic transmis-sion will automatically switch to park posi-tion ]and block the wheels.
Observe the following to make sure that theautomatic transmission stays in neutral \\:
Operating with the SmartKey and Start/Stopbutton:
XMake sure that the ignition is switched on.
XMake sure that the vehicle is stationary.
XDepress and hold the brake pedal.
Operating with the Start/Stop button only:
XEngage park position ].
XRelease the brake pedal.
XRemove the Start/Stop button from ignitionlock (Ypage 132).
XInsert the SmartKey into the ignition lock.
XSwitch on the ignition.
XDepress and hold the brake pedal.
Operating with the SmartKey and Start/Stopbutton:
XShift to neutral \\.
XRelease the brake pedal.
XRelease the electric parking brake, if neces-sary.
XSwitch off the ignition and leave the SmartKeyin the ignition lock.
You can wash the vehicle in an automatic carwash from the very start.
If the vehicle is very dirty, pre-wash it beforecleaning it in an automatic car wash.
After using an automatic car wash, wipe off waxfrom the windshield and the wiper blades. Thiswill prevent smears and reduce wiping noisescaused by residue on the windshield.
Washing by hand
In some countries, washing by hand is onlyallowed at specially equipped washing bays.Observe the legal requirements in each country.
XDo not use hot water and do not wash thevehicle in direct sunlight.
XUse a soft sponge to clean.
XUse a mild cleaning agent, such as a carshampoo approved by Mercedes-Benz.
XThoroughly hose down the vehicle with a gen-tle jet of water.
XDo not point the water jet directly towards theair inlet.
XUse plenty of water and rinse out the spongefrequently.
XRinse the vehicle with clean water and drythoroughly with a chamois.
XDo not let the cleaning agent dry on the paint-work.
Carefully remove all deposits of road salt assoon as possible when driving in winter.
Power washers
GWARNING
The water jet from a circular jet nozzle (dirt
blasters) can cause invisible exterior damage
to the tires or chassis components. Compo-
nents damaged in this way may fail unexpect-
edly. There is a risk of an accident.
Do not use power washers with circular jet
nozzles to clean the vehicle. Have damaged
tires or chassis components replaced imme-
diately.
!Always maintain a distance of at least 12 in(30 cm) between the vehicle and the powerwasher nozzle. Information about the correctdistance is available from the equipmentmanufacturer.
Move the power washer nozzle around whencleaning your vehicle.
Do not aim directly at any of the following:
RTires
RDoor gaps, roof gaps, joints, etc.
RElectrical components
RBattery
RPlug-type couplings

Cleaning the mirror turn signals
!Only use cleaning agents or cleaning clothsthat are suitable for plastic lenses. Unsuitablecleaning agents or cleaning cloths couldscratch or damage the plastic lenses of themirror turn signals.
XClean the plastic lenses of the mirror turn sig-nals in the exterior mirror housing using a wetsponge and mild cleaning agent, e.g.Mercedes-Benz car shampoo or cleaningcloths.
Cleaning the side running board
!Do not clean the aluminum insert of the siderunning board with alkaline or acid-basedcleaning agents, such as wheel cleaner. Donot use acidic wheel cleaners to removebrake dust. The aluminum inserts could oth-erwise be damaged.
Cleaning the sensors
!If you clean the sensors with a powerwasher, make sure that you keep a distanceof at least 11.8 in(30 cm) between the vehicleand the power washer nozzle. Informationabout the correct distance is available fromthe equipment manufacturer.
XClean sensors Cof the driving systems withwater, car shampoo and a soft cloth.
Cleaning the rear view camera and
360° Camera
!Do not clean the camera lens and the areaaround the rear view camera or 360° camerawith a power washer.
XMake sure that the vehicle is stationary.
XTurn the SmartKey to position Gor Hin theignition lock (Ypage 131).
or
XPress the Start/Stop button once or twice onvehicles with KEYLESS-GO or the KEYLESS-GO start function (Ypage 132).
XOpen the camera cover for cleaning via themultimedia system (see Digital Operator'sManual).
XTo clean the camera:use clean water and asoft cloth to clean camera lens C.
When you switch off the ignition, the cameracover closes automatically.
Cleaning the exhaust pipes
GWARNING
The exhaust tail pipe and tail pipe trim can
become very hot. If you come into contact
with these parts of the vehicle, you could burn
yourself. There is a risk of injury.
Always be particularly careful around the
exhaust tail pipe and the tail pipe trim. Allow
these components to cool down before touch-
ing them.
!Do not clean the exhaust pipe with acid-based cleaning agents, such as bathroomcleaner or wheel cleaner.

Flat tire
Preparing the vehicle
Your vehicle may be equipped with:
RMOExtended tires (tires with run-flat proper-ties) (Ypage 315)
Vehicle preparation is not necessary on vehi-cles with MOExtended tires.
Ra TIREFIT kit (Ypage 314)
Vehicles equipped with MOExtended tires arenot equipped with a TIREFIT kit at the factory. Itis therefore recommended that you additionallyequip your vehicle with a TIREFIT kit if you mounttires that do not feature run-flat characteristics,e.g. winter tires. A TIREFIT kit may be obtainedfrom a qualified specialist workshop.
Vehicles with a Mercedes-Benz emergency callsystem which are not equipped with a TIREFITkit: in the event of a flat tire, contact the Cus-tomer Assistance Center for the Mercedes-Benzemergency call system (Ypage 294).
Information on changing and mounting wheels(Ypage 351).
XStop the vehicle on solid, non-slippery andlevel ground, as far away as possible fromtraffic.
XSwitch on the hazard warning lamps.
XSecure the vehicle against rolling away(Ypage 152).
XIf possible, bring the front wheels into thestraight-ahead position.
XSwitch off the engine.
XRemove the SmartKey from the ignition lock.
or, in vehicles with KEYLESS-GO start-functionor KEYLESS‑GO
XOpen the driver's door.The vehicle electronics are now in position

XTo reduce the tire pressure:depress pres-sure release button Cnext to pressuregauge D.
XWhen the tire pressure is correct, unscrew thefiller hose from the valve of the sealed tire.Tire sealant may escape when the filler hose isunscrewed.
XScrew the valve cap onto the tire valve of thesealed tire.
XPull the tire sealant bottle out of the tire infla-tion compressor.
The filler hose remains attached to the tiresealant bottle.
XDrive to the nearest qualified specialist work-shop and have the tire changed there.
XHave the tire sealant bottle replaced as soonas possible at a qualified specialist workshop.
XHave the tire sealant bottle replaced everyfour years at a qualified specialist workshop.
Battery (vehicle)
12 V battery – important safety notes
Special tools and expert knowledge are requiredwhen working on the battery, e.g. removal andinstallation. You should therefore have all workinvolving the battery carried out at a qualifiedspecialist workshop.
GWARNING
Work carried out incorrectly on the battery
can lead, for example, to a short circuit and
thus damage the vehicle electronics. This can
lead to function restrictions applying to
safety-relevant systems, e.g. the lighting sys-
tem, the ABS (anti-lock braking system) or the
ESP®(Electronic Stability Program). The oper-
ating safety of your vehicle may be restricted.
You could lose control of the vehicle, for
example:
Rwhen braking
Rin the event of abrupt steering maneuvers
and/or when the vehicle's speed is not
adapted to the road conditions
There is a risk of an accident.
In the event of a short circuit or a similar inci-
dent, contact a qualified specialist workshop
immediately. Do not drive any further. You
should have all work involving the battery car-
ried out at a qualified specialist workshop.
For further information about ABS and ESP®,see (Ypage 65) and (Ypage 68).
All vehicles except vehicles with a lithium-ion battery:
GWARNING
Electrostatic build-up can lead to the creation
of sparks, which could ignite the highly explo-
sive gases of a battery. There is a risk of an
explosion.
Before handling the battery, touch the vehicle
body to remove any existing electrostatic
build-up.
The highly flammable gas mixture forms whencharging the battery as well as when jump-start-ing.
Always make sure that neither you nor the bat-tery is electrostatically charged. A build-up ofelectrostatic charge can be caused, for exam-ple:
Rby wearing clothing made from syntheticfibers
Rdue to friction between clothing and seats
Rif you push or pull the battery across the car-pet or other synthetic materials
Rif you rub the battery with a cloth
GWARNING
During the charging process, a battery produ-
ces hydrogen gas. If a short circuit occurs or
sparks are created, the hydrogen gas can
ignite. There is a risk of an explosion.

RMake sure that the positive terminal of a
connected battery does not come into con-
tact with vehicle parts.
RNever place metal objects or tools on a bat-
tery.
RIt is important that you observe the descri-
bed order of the battery terminals when
connecting and disconnecting a battery.
RWhen jump-starting, make sure that the
battery poles with identical polarity are
connected.
RIt is particularly important to observe the
described order when connecting and dis-
connecting the jumper cables.
RNever connect or disconnect the battery
terminals while the engine is running.
GWARNING
Battery acid is caustic. There is a risk of injury.
Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Do
not inhale any battery gases. Do not lean over
the battery. Keep children away from batter-
ies. Wash away battery acid immediately with
plenty of clean water and seek medical atten-
tion.
All vehicles:
HEnvironmental note
Batteries contain dangerous
substances. It is against the
law to dispose of them with
the household rubbish. They
must be collected separately
and recycled to protect the
environment.
Dispose of batteries in an
environmentally friendly
manner. Take discharged
batteries to a qualified spe-
cialist workshop or a special
collection point for used bat-
teries.
!Have the battery regularly checked at aqualified specialist workshop.
Comply with the service intervals in the Main-tenance Booklet, or contact a qualified spe-cialist workshop for more information.
!Always have work on batteries carried out ata qualified specialist workshop.
Should it, in exceptional circumstances, beabsolutely necessary to disconnect the 12-volt battery yourself, please observe the fol-lowing:
RSecure the vehicle to prevent it from rollingaway.
RSwitch off the ignition.
RDisconnect the negative terminal first andthen the positive terminal.
The transmission is locked in position ]after disconnecting the battery.
After the work has been done, install the bat-tery and replace the cover of the positive ter-minal clamp firmly.
Comply with safety precautions and take pro-tective measures when handling batteries.
Risk of explosion.
Fire, open flames and smoking areprohibited when handling the bat-tery. Avoid creating sparks.
Electrolyte or battery acid is corro-sive. Avoid contact with skin, eyes orclothing. Wear suitable protectiveclothing, especially gloves, apronand faceguard. Immediately rinseelectrolyte or acid splashes off withclean water. Contact a physician ifnecessary.
Wear eye protection.
Keep children away.
