Note
s onchanging the lights when driving
abroad Ve
hicles with static LED headlamps: it is not
necessary tochange the headlamps. The legal
re qu irements are also met in countries in which
traf fic drives on theot her side of thero ad.
Ve hicles with Intelligent Light Sy stem: the head‐
lamps are automatically switched over when the
ve hicle enters countries where traf fic drives on
th eot her side of thero ad. If necessar y,the
headlamp s can also be switched over manually .
In thefo llowing cases, check the setting of the
headlamp s, andchange it manually if necessary:
R Ifth eDipped-beam setting (left/right-side
traffic) Manual adjustment only message is
displa yed.
R Ifth eCheck dipped-beam setting (left/right-
side traffic) message is displa yed.
Once the headlamps ha vebeen changed:
R oncoming traf fic will not be dazzled R
the edge of thero ad will not be illuminated
as far or as high
R the "mo torw ay mode" and "enhanced fog
light" functions will not be available Information about lighting sy
stems and your
re sponsibility The
various lighting sy stems of theve hicle are
only aids. The driver of theve hicle is responsible
fo r cor rect vehicle illumination in accordance
with the pr evailing light and visibility conditions,

Ve hicles with Active Lane Change Assi st
The Active Lane Change Assi stcan:
R lengthen indicator ope ration forth e dura‐
tion of the lane change if the driver has
activated the indicator.
R automatically activate the turn signal indi‐
cator if the driver indicated toturn in that
direction immediately beforehand but a
lane change was not immediately possi‐

tivating/deactivating the hazard warning
lights #
Press button 1.
The hazard warning lights will switch on auto‐
matically if:
R the airbag has been deplo yed.
R theve hicle is heavily braked from a speed of
more than 70 km/h toast andstill. When
you pull away again, the hazard warning
lights will switch off automatically at appr ox‐
imately 10km/h. You can also swit choff the
hazard warning lights using button 1.
When the turn indicator is activated, the hazard
wa rning lights are inter rupte d. Intelligent Light Sy

stem function
The MULTIBEAM LED headlamps adapt tothe
driving and weather situation and pr ovide exten‐
ded functions for impr oving illumination of the
ro ad.
The sy stem comprises thefo llowing functions:
R Active headla mps function (→ page150)
R Cor nering light (→ page 151)
R Motorw ay mode (→ page151)
R Enhanced fog light function (→ page151)
R Off- road light (→ page152)
The sy stem is active only when it is dar k.Ac
tive headlamps function R
The headlamps follow thesteering mo ve‐
ments.
R Releva nt areas are better illumina ted during
tra vel.
The functions are active when the dipped beam
is switched on.
Depending on theve hicle's equipment, the
cou rse of the lane in which you are driving is
also evaluated and the active headlamps func‐
tion adjusts the light in advance. 15 0

The function is not active under
thefo llowing
conditions:
R at speeds abo ve100 km/h af ter activation.
R when there ar fog light is switched off.
Fu nction of the off-road light
The off- road light impr oves illumination during
off-road driving. The dipped beam is distributed
symmetrically and across a wide angle, and
brightness is increased slightly. This makes it
easier tofind your wa y when driving off- road and
to detect obs tacles at an ea rly st age. The active
headlamps function is deactivated during this
time so that steering mo vements do not change
th e illumination.
The function is active when the dipped beam is
switched on if you do not drive abo ve50 km/h
and theF (Offroad) or G(Offroad Plus)
driving programme has been selected.

Ad aptive Highbeam Assist Plus
Ad aptive Highbeam Assist Plus does not rec‐
ognise thefo llowing road users:
R Road users without lights, e.g. pedes‐
trians
R Road users with poor lighting, e.g.
cyclists
R Road users whose lighting is obstructed,
e.g. bya bar rier
On very rare occasions, Adaptive Highbeam
Assist Plus may failto recognise other road
users that ha velights, or may recognise
th em too late. In
this, or in similar situations, the automatic
main beam will not be deactivated or will be
activated despite the presence of other road
users. #
Alw ays obser vethe tra ffic carefully and
switch off the main beam in good time. Ad
aptive Highbeam Assist Plus cannot take into
account road, weather or traf fic conditions.
De tection may be restricted:
R in poor visibility, e.g. fog, heavy rain or snow
R ifth ere is dirt on the sensors or the sensors
are obscured
Ad aptive Highbeam Assist Plus is on lyan aid.
Yo u are responsible for adju sting theve hicle's
lighting tothe pr evailing light, visibility and traf‐

aptive Highbeam Assist Plus swit ches auto‐
matically between:
R Low beam
R Partial high beam
R High beam
Pa rtial high beam uses the high beam toshine
past other road users rath er than dazzling them. The
vehicle in front is illuminated bythe low
beam.
At speeds abo ve30 km/h:
R If no other road users are de tected, the high
beam will be switched on automaticall y.
R Ifot her road users are de tected, the partial
high beam will be switched on automaticall y.
At speeds below 25 km/h or when there is suf fi‐
cient stre et lighting:
R The partial high beam will switch off auto‐
maticall y.
R The high beam will switch off automaticall y.
At speeds abo veappr oximately 50 km/h:
R The headlamp range of the low beam is regu‐
lated automatically based on the dis tance to
ot her road users.
The sy stem's optical sensor is located behind
th e windscreen near theov erhead control panel. Switching

R If an allergic reaction occurs, seek
medical attention immediatel y. The inside
rearview mir ror and the outside mir‐
ro r on the driver's side automatically go into
anti-dazzle mode if light from a headlamp hits
th e sensor on the inside rearview mir ror.
Sy stem limitations
The sy stem does not go into anti-dazzle mode in
th efo llowing situations:
R the engine is switched off
R reve rsege ar is engaged
R the interior lighting is switched on Fu
nction of the front-passenger outside mir‐
ro r parking position %
The pa rking position is available on ly invehi‐
cles with the mir ror pac kage or memory
function.
The parking position makes parking easier.
The front-passenger outside mir ror tilts down‐
wa rds and sho wsthere ar wheel on the front-
passenger side in thefo llowing situations:
R the parking position is stored (→ page163)
R the passenger mir ror is selected R
reve rsege ar is engaged
The front-passenger outside mir ror mo ves back
to its original position in thefo llowing situations:
R you shift the transmission toano ther trans‐
mission position
R at speeds greater than 15 km/h
R you press the button forth e outside mir ror

R all conditions for an auto matic engine stop
are met.
R vehicles with 48 V on-board electrical
sy stem (EQ Boost tech nology): you
depress the brake pedal when driving at
speeds below 20 km/h.
R vehicles with a 48 V on-board electrical
sy stem (EQ Boost technology): you en gage
transmission position j.
The è symbol appears in the multifunction
display when theve hicle is stationar y.If not all
th eve hicle conditions are met, theç symbol
appears in the multifunction displa y.
The engine is restar ted automatically if:
R you en gage transmission position hork.
R you depress the accelera tor pedal. R
vehicles with 48 V on-board electrical
sy stem (EQ Boost tech nology): youre lease
th e brake pedal in transmission position h
when the HOLD function is not active and the
ve hicle is not in drive program Aor;
and theve hicle does not start tomo ve.
R vehicles with 48 V on-board electrical
sy stem (EQ Boost tech nology): youre lease
th e brake pedal, theve hicle is not in Glide
mode and it starts tomo veat a speed abo ve
appr ox. 3 km/h.
R vehicles without a 48 V on-board electri‐
cal sy stem (without EQ Boost tech nol‐
ogy): you shift from transmission position

R an automatic engine start is necessar y.
If th e engine was switched off bythe ECO start/
st op function and you lea vetheve hicle, a warn‐
ing tone sounds. In addition, the message Vehi-
cle is operational Switch off the ignition before
exiting appears in the multifunction displa y.If
yo u do not swit choff the ignition, the ignition is
