The KEYLESS GO key will now function as fol-
lows:
X To unlock the driver's door: pull the door
handle on the driver's door.
X To unlock centrally: pull the door handle
on the front-passenger door or on the rear
doors.
X To lock centrally: press locking button
1 on the door handle.
Restoring the factory settings X
Press the kandj buttons simulta-
neously for approximately six seconds until
the battery check lamp flashes twice.
Locking from the luggage compart-
ment* On vehicles with KEYLESS GO* and the EASY-
PACK tailgate*, you can close the tailgate
automatically and thereby centrally lock your
vehicle (Y
page 74). Opening the doors from the inside
You can open a door from the inside at any
time, even if it has been locked. 1

If the door is locked, locking knob 1pops
up. The door is unlocked and can be

Risk of poisoning
Exhaust fumes could enter the vehicle inte-
rior if the engine is running and the tailgate
is open. This could poison you. You should
therefore make sure that the tailgate is
always closed when the engine is running.
! The tailgate swings upwards and to the
rear when opened. Therefore, make sure
that there is sufficient clearance above and
behind the tailgate.

dimensions in the Technical data section
(Y page 351).
Opening from the outside You can only open the tailgate after unlocking
it first.

Make sure that nobody can become trap-
ped as you close the tailgate.
i Do not leave the key in the luggage com-
partment. You could otherwise lock your-

Pull the tailgate down using recess 1.
X Push the tailgate closed from the outside.
X Lock the vehicle if necessary using
the j button on the key or with KEY-
LESS GO*.
Opening from the inside You can unlock and open the tailgate from the
inside.
The handle is located on the lower part of the
window frame of the tailgate on the right-hand side when viewed in the direction of
travel. 1

3 To pull the handle upwards
X Press handle 1in the direction of
arrow 2as far as it will go and hold it there.
X From this position, pull handle 1in the
direction of arrow 3as far as it will go and
hold it there.
X Swing the tailgate upwards.
i Vehicles with the EASY-PACK tailgate*:
If you do not open the tailgate after unlock-
ing, it will lock again automatically after a

73EASY-PACK tailgate*
On vehicles with the EASY-PACK tailgate*,
the tailgate opens and closes automatically.
You can stop the automatic opening and clos-
ing procedure at any time:
R by pulling or pressing the remote operating
button at the driver's seat
R by pressing the ibutton on the key
R by pulling the handle on the tailgate
R by pressing the closing button in the tail-
gate
You may also hear a warning tone when open-
ing or closing the tailgate. G
Risk of poisoning

The tailgate closes automatically.
Closing from the outside and locking
centrally (with KEYLESS GO*) You can close the tailgate from the outside
using the closing button in the tailgate, or you
can close and centrally lock the vehicle simul-
taneously with the KEYLESS GO button*. G

nised, the closing procedure that has
already started is cancelled. Opening and closing from inside the
vehicle You can open/close the tailgate from the
driver's seat when the vehicle is stationary.

To open: pull remote operating button 1
until the boot lid opens.
X To close: turn the key to position 1or 2in
the ignition lock.
X Press remote operating button 1until the
tailgate closes.
Limiting the opening angle of the tail-
gate You can limit the opening angle of the tailgate
in the top half of its opening range. This could
be useful, for example, when there is insuffi-
cient space above the tailgate.
Activating
X
To open the tailgate: pull the handle or
press the ibutton on the key.
X To stop the opening procedure: when the
desired position is reached, pull the handle
again or press the ibutton on the key.
Alternatively, you can also press the closing
button in the tailgate.
X Press and hold the closing button in the
tailgate until you hear a tone.
The opening angle limiter is activated. The
tailgate will now stop in the stored position
when opening. Deactivating
X
Press and hold the closing button in the
tailgate until you hear two short tones.
Opening from the inside You can unlock and open the tailgate from the
inside (Y
page 72). Automatic locking feature
The vehicle will lock automatically once you
have pulled away.
You can switch off the automatic locking
function via the on-board computer
(Y page 134).
i The vehicle is locked automatically when
the ignition is switched on and the wheels
begin to turn. There is therefore a risk of
being locked out when the vehicle is being
pushed or tested on a dynamometer. Locking/unlocking the vehicle from
the inside
You can centrally lock or unlock the vehicle
from the inside. This feature may be useful if,
for example, you wish to unlock the
passenger door from the inside or lock the
vehicle before you pull away.
i You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally
from the inside if the vehicle has been
locked with the key or the KEYLESS GO
key*.
i It is only possible to lock the vehicle cen-
trally if the front-passenger door is closed. 1

If you press the KEYLESS GO button repeat-
edly without depressing the brake pedal, its
function corresponds to the different key
positions in the ignition lock.
If you depress the brake pedal and press the
KEYLESS GO button, the engine starts imme-
diately.
i To start the engine using the KEYLESS GO
button, the KEYLESS GO key must be in the
vehicle. 1

pressed, this corresponds to "key removed"

It is now possible to switch on the wind-
screen wipers, for example.
i If you press KEYLESS GO button 1in this
position twice, the power supply is discon-
nected again.
X Position 2(ignition): press KEYLESS GO
button 1twice.
i If you press KEYLESS GO button 1in this
position once, the power supply is discon-
nected again.
Removing the KEYLESS GO button You can remove the KEYLESS GO button from
the ignition lock and start the vehicle with a
key as usual.

Switching between KEYLESS GO mode
and key mode is only possible when the
transmission is in position P. 1

i If you switch from using the key back to
KEYLESS GO mode, the system requires 2
seconds' recognition time before you can
use the KEYLESS GO button as usual.
i You do not need to remove the KEYLESS
GO button from the ignition lock when you
leave the vehicle. Seats
Points to remember
You will find information about folding down
the rear bench seat in the "Luggage compart-
ment enlargement" section (Y page 190).
Depending on the vehicle's equipment, the
seats can adjusted either manually/electri-
cally or electrically*. G
Risk of injury
The seats can still be adjusted when there
is no key in the ignition lock. For this rea-
son, children should never be left unsuper-
vised in the vehicle. They could become
trapped when adjusting a seat. G
Risk of accident
Only adjust the driver's seat when the vehi-
cle is stationary. You will otherwise be dis-
tracted from the road and traffic conditions
and you could lose control of the vehicle as
a result of the seat moving. This could
cause an accident. G

ped when you adjust the seat. Controls

system.
Secure children as recommended; see
"Children in the vehicle" section.
! When you move the seats, make sure that
there are no objects in the footwell or
behind the seats. Otherwise, you could
damage the seats and the objects.
! Make sure that the sun visor is folded up
before setting the backrest angle and head
restraint height. Otherwise, the head
restraint and sun visor could collide when
the head restraint is fully extended.
i The rear-compartment head restraints
can be removed (Y page 83).

ported by the head restraint in the event of
