If the front-passenger seat, the seat cover or the
seat cushion is damaged ,h ave the necessary
repair work carried out at an authorized
Mercedes-Benz Center.
For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recom-
mends that you only use seat accessories that
have been approved by Mercedes-Benz.
If the driver's air bag deploys, this does not
mean that the front-passenger front air bag will
also deploy .T he Occupant Classification Sys-
tem (OCS) categorizes the occupant in the front-
passenger seat. Depending on that result, the
front-passenger front air bag is either enabled or
deactivated.
System self-test
G DANGER
If both the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF and
PASSENGER AIR BAG ON indicator lamps do
not light up during the system self-test, the
system is malfunctioning. The front-
passenger front air bag might be triggered
unintentionally or might not be triggered at all
in the event of an accident with high deceler-
ation. This poses an increased risk of injury or
even fatal injury.
In this case the front-passenger seat may not
be used. Do not install ac hild restraint system
on the front-passenger seat. Have the Occu-
pant Classification System (OCS) checked
and repaired immediately at aq ualified spe-
cialist workshop.
G WARNING
If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator
lamp remains lit after the system self-test, the
front-passenger front air bag is disabled. It will
not be deployed in the event of an accident. In
this case, the front-passenger front air bag
cannot perform its intended protective func-
tion, e.g. when ap erson is seated in the front-
passenger seat.
That person could, for example, come into
contact with the vehicle's interior, especially
if the person is sitting too close to the dash- board. This poses an increased risk of injury or
even fatal injury.
When the front-passenger seat is occupied,
always ensure that: R
the classification of the person in the front-
passenger seat is correct and the front-
passenger front air bag is enabled or disa-
bled in accordance with the person in the
front-passenger seat R
the person is seated properly with ac or-
rectly fastened seatbelt R
the front-passenger seat has been moved
as far back as possible
If the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator
lamp remains lit when it should not, the front-
passenger seat may not be used. Do not
install ac hild restraint system on the front-
passenger seat. Have the Occupant Classifi-
cation System (OCS) checked and repaired
immediately at aq ualified specialist work-
shop.
G WARNING
Objects between the seat surface and the
child restraint system could affect OCS oper-
ation. This could result in the front-passenger
air bag not functionin gasi ntended during an
accident. This poses an increased risk of
injury or even fatal injury.
Do not place any objects between the seat
surface and the child restraint system. The
entire base of the child restraint system must
always rest on the seat cushion of the front-
passenger seat. The backrest of the forward-
facing child restraint system must, as far as
possible ,ber esting on the backrest of the
front-passenger seat. Always comply with the
child restraint system manufacturer's instal-
lation instructions.
After the system self-test, the PASSENGER AIR
BAG OFF or PASSENGER AIR BAG ON indicator
lamp displays the status of the front-passenger
front air bag ( Y
page 45).

Opening/closing using the SmartKey

When opening or closing the roof, body parts
could be trapped by, for example, the roof
mechanism, trun kl id or side windows. There

When raising or lowering the roof, make sure
that no body parts are in the vicinity of moving
components. If someon eb ecomes trapped,
release the button.

and you engage transmission position D or R ,

When engaging transmission position D or R ,
alway sf irmly depress the brake peda la nd do
not simultaneously accelerate. ! Change gea ring ood time and avoi ds pin-
ning the wheels. You could otherwise damage
the vehicle.
Depress the accelerator carefully when pulling
away.
The vehicl el ocks centrally once you have pulled
away. The locking knobs in the doors drop down.
You can open the doors from the insid eata ny
time.
You can als od eactivate the automatic locking

It is only possible to shift the transmission from
position P to the desired position if you depress
the brake pedal. Only then is the shift lock
released.
i Upshifts take place at highe re ngine speeds

Hill start assist Hill start assist help sy ou when pulling awa yf or-

removed you rf oot from the brake pedal. This

the brake peda ltot he accelerator peda la nd to
depress it before the vehicl eb egins to roll.
G WARNING
After as hort time, hill start assist wil lnol on-

There is ar isk of an accident and injury.
Therefore, quickly move you rf oot from the
brake peda ltot he accelerator pedal. Never
leave the vehicl ew hen it is held by hill start
assist.

General notes You can chang eg ear yourself using the steering
wheel paddle shifters. The transmission must be
in position D .
Depending on which steering wheel paddle
shifter is pulled, the automatic transmission
immediately shift si nt ot he nex tg ear down or
up, if permitted.
To use manual shifting, you have two options: R

permanen ts etting
If you activate manual gearshifting, the multi-
function display will show the curren tg ear
instead of transmission position D .
If manual gearshifting is deactivated, the gears
will be selected automatically.

! Overfilling the fuel tank could damage the
fuel system.
! Take care not to spill any fuel on painted
surfaces. You could otherwise damage the
paintwork.
! Use af ilter when adding fuel from af uel can.
The fuel lines and/or the fuel injection system
could otherwise be blocked by particles from
the fuel can.
If you overfill the fuel tank, fuel could spray out
when the fuel pump nozzle is removed.

Refueling
General information The fuel filler flap is unlocked or locked auto-
matically when you unlock or lock the vehicle
with the key or using KEYLESS-GO.
