ATTENTION ASSIST assesses your level of fati-gue or lapses in concentration by taking thefollowing criteria into account:
Ryour personal driving style, e.g. steeringcharacteristics
Rjourney details, e.g. time of day and lengthof journey
The functionality of ATTENTION ASSIST isrestricted and warnings may be delayed or notoccur at all:
Rif the road condition is poor, e.g. if the sur-face is uneven or if there are potholes
Rif there is a strong side wind
Rif you have adopted a sporty driving stylewith high cornering speeds or high rates ofacceleration
Rif you are predominantly driving slower than50 mph (80 km/h) or faster than 112 mph(180 km/h)
Rif you are currently using COMAND or mak-ing a telephone call with it
Rif the time has been set incorrectly
Rin active driving situations, such as whenyou change lanes or change your speed
ATTENTION ASSIST is only an aid to the driver.It might not always recognize fatigue orincreasing inattentiveness in time or fail torecognize them at all. The system is not a sub-stitute for a well-rested and attentive driver.
Warning and display messages in the
multifunction display
XActivate ATTENTION ASSIST using the on-board computer (Ypage 175).
If ATTENTION ASSIST is active, you will bewarned no sooner than 20 minutes afteryour journey has begun. You then hear anintermittent warning tone twice and theATTENTION ASSIST: Take a Break!ATTENTION ASSIST: Take a Break!mes-sage appears in the multifunction display.
XIf necessary, take a break.
XPress thevor8button to confirmthe message.
On long journeys, take regular breaks in goodtime to allow yourself to rest properly. If youdo not take a break and ATTENTION ASSISTstill detects increasing lapses in concentra-tion, you will be warned again after 15 minutesat the earliest.
ATTENTION ASSIST is reset when you continueyour journey and starts assessing your tired-ness again if:
Ryou switch off the engine
Ryou take off your seat belt and open thedriver's door, e.g. for a change of drivers orto take a break

Switching the fold-in mirrors when lock-
ing feature on/off
This function is only available when the vehicleis equipped with the electrical fold-in function.
This function is only available in Canada.
When you activate theAuto. Mirror Fold‐Auto. Mirror Fold‐ingingfunction, the exterior mirrors are folded inwhen the vehicle is locked.
If you have switched on theAuto. MirrorAuto. MirrorFoldingFoldingfunction and you fold in the exteriormirrors using the button on the door(Ypage 93), they will not fold out automati-cally. The exterior mirrors can then only be fol-ded out using the button on the door.

You cannot delete individual stored laps. If youhave stopped 16 laps, the current lap does nothave to be reset.

Resetting the ASSYST PLUS service
interval display
!If the ASSYST PLUS service interval dis-play has been inadvertently reset, this set-ting can be corrected at a qualified special-ist workshop.
Have service work carried out as describedin the Maintenance Booklet. This may other-wise lead to increased wear and damage tothe major assemblies or the vehicle.
A qualified specialist workshop, e.g. an author-ized Mercedes-Benz Center, will reset theASSYST PLUS service interval display after theservice work has been carried out. You canalso obtain further information on mainte-nance work, for example.
Special service requirements
The specified maintenance interval takes onlythe normal operation of the vehicle intoaccount. Service work will need to be per-formed more often if the vehicle is operatedunder arduous conditions or increased loads.
The ASSYST PLUS service interval display isonly an aid. The driver of the vehicle is respon-sible for whether service work will need to beperformed more frequently than required as aresult of the actual operating conditionsand/or loads.
Examples of arduous operating conditions:
Rregular city driving with frequent intermedi-ate stops
Rthe vehicle is primarily used to travel shortdistances
Rfrequent use in mountainous terrain or onpoor road surfaces
Rthe engine is often left idling for long peri-ods
Rparticularly dusty conditions, or if air-recir-culation mode is frequently used
In these or similar operating conditions, havethe interior filter, air filter, engine oil and oil fil-ter, for example, changed more frequently.Under arduous operating conditions, the tiresmust be checked more often. Further informa-tion can be obtained at a qualified specialistworkshop.

Wear suitable protective clothing,especially gloves, apron and face-guard.
Rinse any acid spills immediatelywith clear water. Contact a physi-cian if necessary.

For safety reasons, Mercedes-Benz recom-mends that you only use batteries which havebeen tested and approved for your vehicle byMercedes-Benz. These batteries provideincreased impact protection to prevent vehicleoccupants from suffering acid burns shouldthe battery be damaged in the event of anaccident.
In order for the battery to achieve the maxi-mum possible service life, it must always besufficiently charged.
Like other batteries, the vehicle battery maydischarge over time if you do not use the vehi-cle. In this case, have the battery disconnec-ted at a qualified specialist workshop. You canalso charge the battery with a charger recom-mended by Mercedes-Benz. Contact a quali-fied specialist workshop for further informa-tion.
Have the battery condition of charge checkedmore frequently if you use the vehicle mainlyfor short trips or if you leave it standing idlefor a lengthy period. Consult a qualified spe-cialist workshop if you wish to leave your vehi-cle parked for a long period of time.
Remove the SmartKey if you park the vehicleand do not require any electrical consumers.The vehicle will then use very little energy,thus conserving battery power.
If the power supply has been interrupted, e.g.if you reconnect the battery, you will have to:
Rreset the function for automatically foldingthe exterior mirrors in/out by folding themirrors out once (Ypage 93)
Rset the clock
On vehicles with a multimedia system, thetime is set automatically.
Charging the battery
GWARNING
During charging and jump-starting, explosive
gases can escape from the battery. There is
a risk of an explosion.
Particularly avoid fire, open flames, creating
sparks and smoking. Ensure there is suffi-
cient ventilation while charging and jump-
starting. Do not lean over a battery.
GWARNING
Battery acid is caustic. There is a risk of
injury.
Avoid contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Do
not inhale any battery gases. Do not lean
over the battery. Keep children away from
batteries. Wash away battery acid immedi-
ately with plenty of clean water and seek
medical attention.
GWARNING
A discharged battery can freeze at tempera-
tures below freezing point. When jump-start-
ing the vehicle or charging the battery,
gases can escape from the battery. There is
a risk of an explosion.
Allow the frozen battery to thaw out before
charging it or jump-starting.
!Only use battery chargers with a maximumcharging voltage of 14.8V.
!Onlycharge the battery using the jump-starting connection point.
The jump-starting connection point is in theengine compartment.

Breakdown assistance

The brackets for the screw-in towing eye arelocated in the bumpers. They are at the frontand at the rear, behind the covers.
XRemove the towing eye from the vehicle toolkit (Ypage 252).
XPress the mark on coverCinwards in thedirection of the arrow.
XTake coverCoff the opening.
XScrew in the towing eye clockwise as far asit will go and tighten it.
Removing the towing eye
XUnscrew and remove the towing eye.
XAttach coverCto the bumper and pressuntil it engages.
XPlace the towing eye in the vehicle tool kit.
Towing a vehicle with both axles on
the ground
GWARNING
You can no longer steer the vehicle if the
steering wheel lock has been engaged.
There is a risk of an accident.
Always switch off the ignition when towing
the vehicle with a tow cable or a tow bar.
The automatic transmission shifts to position]automatically when you open the driver'sor front-passenger door or when you removethe SmartKey from the ignition lock.
In order to ensure that the automatic trans-mission stays in position\\when towingaway the vehicle, you must observe the follow-ing points:
XSwitch on the hazard warning lamps(Ypage 99).
XTurn the SmartKey to positionHin the igni-tion lock.
On vehicles with KEYLESS-GO, use theSmartKey instead of the Start/Stop button(Ypage 118).
XDepress and hold the brake pedal.
XShift the transmission to position\\.
XRelease the brake pedal.
XRelease the electric parking brake.
XLeave the SmartKey in positionHin theignition lock.
In order to signal a change of direction whentowing the vehicle with the hazard warninglamps switched on, use the combinationswitch as usual. In this case, only the indicatorlamps for the direction of travel flash. Whenyou reset the combination switch, the hazardwarning flashers start flashing again.
It is important that you observe the safetyinstructions when towing away your vehicle(Ypage 263).
Permitted towing methods
Mercedes-Benz recommends transporting yourvehicle in the case of a breakdown, rather thantowing it away.
When towing away, use a towing rope or atowing bar with both axles on the ground. Donot use any tow bar systems.
Towing the vehicle with the rear axle
raised
!The ignition must be switched off if youare towing the vehicle with the rear axle
raised. Intervention by ESP®could other-wise damage the brake system.
!Vehicles with automatic transmission mustnot be towed with the rear axle raised. Thevehicle/trailer combination may otherwiseswerve or even roll over.

Tire and Loading Information placard
CRecommended tire pressures
The Tire and Loading Information placard is onthe B-pillar on the driver's side (Ypage 279).
The Tire and Loading Information placard con-tains the recommended tire pressures for coldtires. The recommended tire pressures arevalid for the maximum permissible load and upto the maximum permissible vehicle speed.
Tire pressure table
The tire pressure table is on the inside of thefuel filler flap. It shows the tire pressure for alltires permitted at the factory for this vehicle;see illustration (example).
The tire pressure table contains the recom-mended pressures for cold tires for variousoperating conditions, i.e. differing load andspeed conditions.
If a tire size precedes a tire pressure, the fol-lowing tire pressure information is only validfor that tire size; see illustration (example).
The load conditions "partially laden" and "fullyladen" are defined in the table for differentnumbers of occupants and amounts of lug-gage. The actual number of seats may differ.
Some tire pressure tables show only the rimdiameters instead of the full tire size, e.g.R18.Rim diameter is part of the tire size and can befound on the tire sidewall (Ypage 283).
If the tire pressures have been set to the lowervalues for lighter loads and/or lower roadspeeds, the pressures should be reset to thehigher values:
Rif you want to drive with an increased loadand/or
Rif you want to drive at higher road speeds
The tire pressures for increased loads and/orhigher road speeds, shown in the tire pressuretable, may have a negative effect on drivingcomfort.
If the tire pressure is not set correctly, this canlead to an excessive build-up of heat and asudden loss of pressure.
