Overview
General notes
!Do not use the space in front of the dis-play for storage. Objects placed here coulddamage the display or impair its function.Avoid any direct contact with the displaysurface. Pressure on the display surfacemay result in impairments to the display,which could be irreversible.
Wearing polarized sunglasses may impair yourability to read the display.
The display has an automatic temperature-controlled switch-off feature. The brightness isautomatically reduced if the temperature istoo high. The display may temporarily switchoff completely.
Cleaning instructions
!Do not touch the display. The display has avery sensitive high-gloss surface; there is arisk of scratching. If you have to clean thescreen, however, use a mild cleaning agentand a soft, lint-free cloth.
The display must be switched off and havecooled down before you start cleaning. Do notapply pressure to the display surface whencleaning it, as this could cause irreversibledamage to the display.

The volume is adjusted:

switch the media source or set the volume,the sound is automatically switched on.

You must observe the legal requirements forthe country in which you are currently drivingwhen operating the navigation system.
General notes
Among other things, correct functioning of thenavigation system depends on GPS reception.In certain situations, GPS reception may beimpaired, there may be interference or theremay be no reception at all, e.g. in tunnels orparking garages.
Audio 20 is equipped with Garmin®MAP PILOT(see the manufacturer's operating instruc-
tions). The Garmin®MAP PILOT operatinginstructions are stored on the SD card as aPDF file. The SD card box contains a quickguide.
The following descriptions apply to navigationwith COMAND. Further information can befound in the Digital Operator's Manual.

Authorization by entering a passkey (pass-code):
XSelect the Bluetooth®name of the mobilephone.The input menu for the passkey is displayed.
XChoose a one to sixteen-digit number com-bination as a passkey.
XEnter the passkey on the multimedia sys-tem.
XPressTto confirm.
XEnter and confirm the passkey on themobile phone. Depending on the mobilephone used, confirm the connection to themultimedia system and for the PBAP and
MAP Bluetooth®profiles. The prompt toconfirm may take up to two minutes to bedisplayed (see the manufacturer's operatinginstructions).
Connecting a mobile phone (Audio
20)
Requirements
For telephony via the Bluetooth®interface, you
require at least one Bluetooth®-capable mobilephone depending on use ofone-telephonemodeortwo-telephone mode. The mobilephone must support Hands-Free Profile 1.0 orabove.
Intwo-telephone modeyou can use all thefunctions of the multimedia system with themain telephone. With theadditional tele-phone, you can receive incoming calls.

If the mobile phone supports the PBAP (PhoneBookAccessProfile) and MAP (Message
AccessProfile) Bluetooth®profiles, the follow-ing information is transmitted after you con-nect the main telephone:

Searching for and authorizing (con-
necting) a mobile phone
Before using your mobile phone with the multi-media system for the first time, you will needto search for the phone and then authorize(connect) it. Depending on the mobile phone,authorization either takes place by means ofSecure Simple Pairing or by entering a pass-key. The multimedia system automaticallymakes the procedure that is relevant for yourmobile phone available. The mobile phone isalways connected automatically after authori-zation. Further information on using a mobilephone with the multimedia system (see theDigital Operator's Manual).
If the multimedia system does not detect yourmobile phone, this may be due to particularsecurity settings on your mobile phone (seethe manufacturer's operating instructions).

Important safety notes
GWARNING
If objects in the passenger compartment are
stowed incorrectly, they can slide or be
thrown around and hit vehicle occupants. In
addition, cup holders, open stowage spaces
and mobile phone brackets cannot always
retain all objects they contain. There is a
risk of injury, particularly in the event of sud-
den braking or a sudden change in direction.
RAlways stow objects so that they cannot
be thrown around in such situations.
RAlways make sure that objects do not pro-
trude from stowage spaces, parcel nets or
stowage nets.
RClose the lockable stowage spaces before
starting a journey.
RAlways stow and secure heavy, hard, poin-
ted, sharp-edged, fragile or bulky objects
in the trunk.

Making an emergency call

Breakdown assistance call button
XPress Roadside Assistance buttonC.This initiates a call to the Mercedes-BenzCustomer Assistance Center.
The indicator lamp in Roadside AssistancebuttonCflashes while the call is active.The multifunction display shows theCon‐Con‐
necting Callnecting Callmessage. The audio outputis muted.
If a connection can be made, theCall Con‐Call Con‐nectednectedmessage appears in the multifunctiondisplay.
If a mobile phone network and GPS receptionare available, the system transfers data to theMercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Center,for example:

From the remote malfunction diagnosis, theMercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Centercan ascertain the nature of the problem(Ypage 233).
The Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance Cen-ter either sends a qualified Mercedes-Benztechnician or makes arrangements for yourvehicle to be transported to the nearestMercedes-Benz Service Center.
You may be charged for services such asrepair work and/or towing.
