Pull the corresponding switch on the door
control panel until the side window is com-
pletely closed. (Y page 76).
X Hold the switch for an additional second.
If the side window opens again slightly:
X Immediately pull the corresponding switch
on the door control panel until the side win-
dow is completely closed (Y page 76).
X Hold the switch for an additional second.
X If the corresponding side window remains
closed after the button has been released,
the side window has been reset correctly.
If this is not the case, repeat the steps
above again. Problems with the side windows
Problem: aside window cannot be closed
because it is blocked by objects, e.g.
leaves in the window guide.
X Remove the objects.
X Close the side window.
Problem :aside window cannot be closed
and you cannot see the cause. G
WARNING
Closing the side windows with increased force
or without the anti-entrapment feature could
lead to serious or even fatal injury. Make sure
that nobody can become trapped when clos-
ing the side windows.
If a side window is obstructed during closing
and reopens again slightly:
X Immediately afte rthe window blocks, pull
the corresponding switch again until the
side window has closed.
The side window is closed with increased
force. If a side window is obstructed again during
closing and reopens again slightly:
X
Immediately after the window blocks, pull
the corresponding switch again until the
side window has closed.
The side window is closed without the anti-
entrapment feature. Roof
Important safety notes
For safety reasons, the roof can only be
opened or closed when the vehicle is station-
ary. G
WARNING
Always open or close the roof fully before
driving.
If the roof does not open or close fully, the
roof hydraulic system is depressurised and
the roof is lowered:
R after about seven minutes if the ignition is
switched on
R after about
15 seconds if the ignition is switched off
Aw arning tone sounds shortly beforehand.
The K symbol and Vario-roof lower‐ ing message appear in the multifunction dis-
play.
Lock the roof again before driving on. Other-
wise, the unlocked roo fcould open during the
journey and cause you to lose control of your
vehicle. You and/or other persons could be
injured as a result. G
WARNING
Closing the roof manually is a complex, tech-
nically challenging procedure. Attempting to
manually close the roof may cause damage to
the roof and/or injury.
For this reason, the manual closing process
should only be carried out at a qualified spe-
cialist workshop. 78

Never sit on the rear shelf or store heavy
objects there. You will otherwise damage
the roof and the rear shelf of your vehicle.
! Do not forget that the weather can
change abruptly. Make certain that the roof
is closed when you leave the vehicle. The
vehicle electronics can be damaged if
water enters the vehicle interior.
! When opening and closing the roof, make
sure that:
R there is sufficient upward clearance, as
the roof swings upwards.
R there is sufficient clearance behind the
vehicle, as the boot lid swings backwards
beyond the bumper.
R the boot is only loaded to below the boot
separator.
R the boot separator is not pushed up by
the load.
R the boot separator is closed.
R the boot lid is closed.
R the outside temperature is above
−15 †.
You could otherwise damage the roof, boot
and other parts of the vehicle.
i Make sure that the roof and rear window
are dry and clean before opening the roof.
Otherwise, water or dirt could enter the
vehicle interior or boot. Opening and closing using the roof

WARNING
When opening or closing the roof, make sure
that nobody is trapped or injured by moving
parts such as the boot lid, the hinged roof or
the roof linkage.
If there is a risk of entrapment, release the
roof switch immediately.T he roof folding
mechanism stops immediately. Opening and closing

Close the boot separator (Y page 81).
X Close the boot lid.
X Turn the key to position 2in the ignition
lock.
X Open the cover on the lower centre con-
sole.
Roof switch :is located under the cover.
X To open: pull roof switch :until the roof
has been fully retracted into the boot and
the Vario-roof in operation message
disappears from the multifunction display.
The front side windows close. The rear side
windows open.
X To close: press roof switch :until the roof
is fully closed and the Vario-roof in operation message disappears from the
multifunction display.
All of the side windows close.
X Make sure that all the side windows are
fully closed.
i If you operate the roof switch and the
Close boot separator message appears
in the multifunction display, the boot sep-
arator has not been closed correctly. Opening and closing using the key

parts such as the boot lid, the hinged roof or

release the %or& button on the key.
The roof folding mechanism stops immedi-
ately.

X Close the boot separator (Y page 81).
X Close the boot lid.
X Point the tip of the key at the driver's door
handle.
X To open: press and hold the %button
on the key until the roof is fully opened.
The roof and the rear side windows open.
The fron tside windows close.
X To interrupt the opening procedure:
release the %button.
X To open the front side windows: press
and hold the %button on the key again.
X To close: press and hold the &button
on the key until the roof is fully closed.
The roof and the side windows close.
X To interrupt the closing procedure:
release the &button.
i The key cannot be used to open the roof
if the roof is closed and the boot separator
is open .Instead, all of the side windows
open or close simultaneously (Y page 76).
Additionally, the Close boot separator message appears in the multifunctio
ndis-
play. Locking the roof again
The roof is not locked if:
R the K symbol and Vario-roof in operation message appear in the multi-
function display
R the K symbol and Open/close vario-
roof completely message appear and
you hear a warning tone
R you hear a warning tone for up to ten sec-
onds when pulling away or while driving.
You can lock the roof again if it is not locked
fully.
X Stop the vehicle immediately, paying atten-
tion to road and traffic conditions.
X Make sure that the key is in position 2in
the ignition lock.
X Press the roof switch (Y page 79). Boot separator
General notes The boot separator can be used to cover lug-
gage and loads in the boot.
!
To avoid damaging the roof or luggage
when folding back the roof, you should:
R only load the boot to below the boot sep-
arator
R not place any objects on or in front of the
boot separator
R not place any objects on the cover
behind the roll bars
R not allow the load to push up the boot

To close: pull back boot separator :by
the handle in the direction of the arrow until
it engages on both sides in the eyelets on
the luggage compartment lip.
X To open: grip the handle of boot separa-
tor :.
X Press the release button in the handle of
boot separator :.
Boot separator :is unlocked.
X Pull boot separator :up out of the eyelets
on the luggage compartment lip.
X Push boot separator :forwards by the
handle, against the direction of the arrow. Roof

Problems with the roof

The roof will not open or
close. The boot separator is not closed and not properly engaged.

Close the boot separator (Y page 81). The boot lid is open.

Close the boot lid (Y page 73). The on-board voltage is too low.

Leave the engine running. The roof has been opened and closed several times in
arow. The
roof drive has been automatically deactivated.
You can open and close the roof again after approximately ten
minutes.
X Switch off the ignition and turn it back on.
X Repeat the opening or closing procedure. The automatic roof mechanism is faulty.
X
Consult a qualified specialist workshop. Draught stop
General notes The draught stop offers protection from the
wind when driving with the roof down.

WARNING
You could lose control of the vehicle and
injure yourself or others if you operate the
draught stop while driving.
Fit or remove AIRGUIDE only when the vehicle
is stationary. G
WARNING
If you use the draught stop in darkness or in
other conditions offering poor visibility, your
view to the rear is further impaired. As a result
of the visibility impairment, you could cause
an accident and injure yourself or others.
For this reason, remove the draught stop as
soon as it is dark or if your vision is otherwise
restricted. G
WARNING
If the draught stop is not correctly engaged,
it may break free and obstruct traffic behind
you or lead to an accident.
Each time before driving with the roof down,
check that the draught stop is properly
engaged.
! Fit or remove the draught stop only when
the roof is open. You could otherwise dam-
age the draught stop or the vehicle interior.
The draught stop can be fitted or removed
from the driver's side or passenger side.
Perform operations involving the draught
stop preferably on the side facing away from
traffic, after you have stopped the vehicle,
paying attention to road and traffic condi-
tions. 82

X Fulfil the following conditions for fitting:
R unlocking buttons Rand Lpoint in the
direction of travel.
R latch =facing you is unlocked.
R latch ;facing away from you is locked.
X To unlock the latch: press unlocking but-
ton Ror Lon the locked latch.
X To lock th elatch: push the unlocked latch
upwards by hand until it engages.
Fitting
X Stop the vehicle, paying attention to road
and traffic conditions.
X Take the draugh tstop ou tofthe boot. Fitting from the left side of the vehicle (example) X
Prepare for fitting (Y page 83).
X Hold draught stop :at an angle and slide
it with locked latch ;in the direction of
arrow ?into the bracket of the opposite
roll bar.
X Press draught stop :on the side of the
vehicle facing you downwards in the direc-
tion of arrow Auntil it engages.
Make sure that studs Band latch =fit
into the respective brackets.
X Check whether draught stop :is fully
inserted into all four brackets and is sitting
securely.
X If this is not the case, remove draught
stop :again and repeat the steps above.
Removing
X Stop the vehicle, paying attention to road
and traffic conditions. Removing from the left side of the vehicle (exam-
ple)
X
Press unlocking button L:.Meanwhile,
pull draught stop ;on the side of the vehi-
cle facing you upwards and tilt it. Roof

Pull draught stop ;out of the bracket of
the opposite roll bar in the direction of the
arrow.
X Secure draught stop ;to the boot floor by
the rubbe rstrips (Y page 238). AIRGUIDE
General notes AIRGUIDE offers protection from the wind
when driving with the roo fdown. G
WARNING
You could lose control of the vehicle and
injure yourself or others if you operate AIR-
GUIDE while driving.
Only fold AIRGUIDE out/in when the vehicle
is stationary.
! AIRGUIDE can only be positioned cor-
rectly by folding it in or out. AIRGUIDE can-
not be dismantled. Do not try to remove
AIRGUIDE from its anchorage. Otherwise,
you could damage AIRGUIDE or the vehicle.
AIRGUIDE can be folded out or back in from
the driver's side or passenger side.
When operating AIRGUIDE ,preferably stand
on the side of the vehicle away from the traf-
fic, after you have stopped the vehicle in
accordance with road and traffic conditions. Operating AIRGUIDE X
Stop the vehicle, paying attention to road
and traffic conditions. Folding out from the left side of the vehicle (exam-
ple)
X
To fold out AIRGUIDE: turn disc:in the
direction of the arrow towards the middle
of the vehicle to the stop.
X Repeat with disc ;.
X To fold in AIRGUIDE: turn discs:
and ;back behind the roll bar to the stop.
i Discs :and ;can also be used inde-
pendently of each other, e.g. when you are
driving without a passenger. MAGIC SKY CONTROL
General notes MAGIC SKY CONTROL is a glass roof, the
transparency of which can be changed by
applying electrical voltage.
MAGIC SKY CONTROL can be switched
between darkened and transparent states.
i
MAGIC SKY CONTROL darkens automat-
ically when you turn the key to position 0
in the ignition lock or remove the key.
Risk of electric shock The electrical components of MAGIC SKY
CONTROL are protected by a covering behind
the overhead control panel.84
RoofOpening and closing

The MAGIC SKY CONTROL control unit has a
yellow high-voltage warning sticker. The high-
voltage cables are orange. G
DANGER
The MAGIC SKY CONTROL electrical system
works under high voltage.
If the covering behind the overhead control
panel is damaged or removed, electric com-
ponents of the MAGIC SKY CONTROL system
will be exposed. These components could be
live. If you touch these components, you could
receive an electric shock, which could cause
a severe or fatal injury.
For this reason, never remove the covering
behind the overhead control panel. Never
touch electrical system components (control
unit, cables or cable connections).
Always have any work on the MAGIC SKY
CONTROL carried out at aqualified specialist
workshop.
MAGIC SKY CONTROL operation X
Turn the key to position 1or 2in the ignition
lock.
MAGIC SKY CONTROL switches to the sta-
tus it was set to before the engine was
switched off.
X To change the degree of transparency:
press button :.
i At sub-zero temperatures, the change is
slowe rand uneven. The entire process may
