Insert the key and turn it clockwise. The trunk lid will pop up
slightly. Lift it to
open the trunk.
Press the trunk button (Vehicles with keyless entry system or F.A.S.T.-key) or OPENswitch (Vehicles with F.A.S.T.-key). (See “Keyless entry system” on page 5-7, 5-30 or “Free-hand Advanced Security Transmitter(F.A.S.T.-key)” on page 5-12.) The trunk lid will pop up to slightly. Lift it to open the trunk. Pull the trunk lid release lever, located to the left of the driver’s seat, up to open the trunk.
Pull the trunk lid downward as illustrated. Gently slam the trunk lid from the outside so
CAUTION Do not stand behind the exhaust pipe when loading and unloading luggage. Heat from the exhaust could lead to burns.

The alarm will be activated if any of the fol- lowing occur while the vehicle is parked andthe system is armed.  One of the doors is opened without using the remote control transmitter or the F. A . S . T. - k e y. The engine hood or the trunk lid is opened.
When the alarm is activated: 1. The headlights blink on and off for 3 min- utes. After 3 minutes the headlights automati-cally shut off. 2. The horn will sound intermittently for 3 minutes.
Type 1
Type 2 The alarm can be deactivated in the following ways.  By using the remote control transmitter or the F.A.S.T.-key to lock or unlock the door. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” posi- tion.

The system will be disarmed if the followingoperation is performed.  The ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position. All doors are unlocked by the remote con- trol transmitter or the F.A.S.T.-key.
 The system will be disarmed if, while the theft-alarm indicator is illuminated, the igni- tion switch is turned to the “ON” position.  The system will not be
armed if a door or the

Use the following procedure to test the sys- tem: 1. Lower the driver’s window.
2. Arm the system as explained in “Armed stage”. 3. Make sure that the theft-alarm indicator comes on and flashes for approximately20 seconds. 4. Wait a few seconds and then unlock the driver’s side door by using the inside doorlock knob and open the door. 5. Check to be sure that the horn sounds intermittently and the headlights blink onand off when a door is opened.6. Disarm the system by unlocking all doors by the remote control transmitter or the F. A . S . T. - k e y.

The main switch located on the driver’s doorcan be used to operate all door windows. A window can be opened or closed by operat- ing the corresponding switch.Press the switch down to open the window, and pull up the switch to close it. If the driver’s door window switch is fullypressed down/pulled up, the driver’s door window automatically opens/closes com- pletely.
NOTE
 If the UNLOCK button is pressed when all doors are closed and no door is opened within approximately 30 seconds, re-armingwill automatically occur.  The amount of time after unlocking until the vehicle relocks automatically can be adjusted. See an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer for details.  Once the system has been disarmed, it can- not be rearmed except by repeating the arm-ing procedure.

 Never try to operate the main switch and sub switch in different directions at the same time. This will freeze the window in posi- tion.  Operating the power windows repeatedly with the engine stopped will run down the battery. Use the window switches only whilethe engine is running. WA R N I N G Before operating the power windows, make sure that nothing can be trapped(head, hands, fingers, etc.) in the window.  Never leave the vehicle with the key in the ignition switch.  Never leave a child alone in the vehicle.

When the headlights of the vehicles behind you are very bright, the reflection factor ofthe rearview mirror is automatically changed to reduce the glare. Normally, use the automatic mode. When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” posi-tion, the reflection factor of the mirror is automatically changed.

Adjust the outside rearview mirrors only after making any seat adjustments so you have aclear view to the rear of the vehicle.
The outside rearview mirrors can be adjusted when the ignition switch is in the “ON” or “ACC” position.Move the lever (A) to the same side as the mirror you wish to adjust. Press the switch (B) to adjust the mirror posi- tion.

WA R N I N G Do not attempt to adjust the outside rear- view mirrors while driving. This can be dangerous.Be sure to adjust the mirrors before driv- ing. Your passenger’s side mirror is convex. The objects you see in the mirror will look smaller and farther away than theyappear in a regular flat mirror. Do not use this mirror to estimate the dis- tance of vehicles following you whenchanging lanes.

7. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” posi- tion and make certain that all warning lights are functioning properly beforestarting the engine. 8. Turn the ignition switch to the “START”pedal. Release the key when the engine starts.
After several attempts, you may experience that the engine still does not start.
1. Make sure that all electric devices, such as lights, air conditioning blower and rear window defogger, are turned off. 2. While depressing the brake pedal on vehi-cles equipped with continuously variable transmission (CVT) or Twin Clutch SST or the clutch pedal on the vehiclesequipped with manual transaxle, press the accelerator pedal halfway and hold it there, then crank the engine. Release theaccelerator pedal, immediately after theengine starts. 3. If the engine still will not start, the engine could be flooded with too much gasoline.While depressing the brake pedal on vehi- cles equipped with CVT or Twin Clutch SST or the clutch pedal on the vehiclesequipped with manual transaxle, push the accelerator pedal all the way down and hold it there, then crank the engine for 5to 6 seconds. Return the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position and release the accelerator pedal. Wait a few seconds, andthen crank the engine again for 5 to 6 sec- onds while depressing the brake pedal or the clutch pedal, but do not push theaccelerator pedal. Release the ignition key if the engine starts. If the engine fails to start, repeat these procedures. If theengine still will not start, contact your local Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice for assistance.
When the ambient temperature is -4 °F (-20 °C) or lower on vehicles with CVT, or -22 °F (-30 °C) or lower on vehicles withTwin Clutch SST, it may not be possible tostart from a standstill even with the selector lever (CVT) or the gearshift lever (Twin Clutch SST) in the “D” (DRIVE) or “R”(REVERSE) position. This phenomenon occurs because the trans- axle has not warmed up sufficiently; it doesnot indicate a problem. If it occurs, place the selector lever (CVT) or the gearshift lever (Twin Clutch SST) in the “P” (PARK) posi-tion and let the engine idle for at least 10 min- utes. The transaxle will warm up, and you will beable to start normally. Do not leave the vehicle during warm-up operation.

If the CVT does not shift while driving, or your vehicle does not pick up enough speed when starting on an uphill slope, there may be something unusual happening in the transmis-sion, causing a safety device to activate. Have your vehicle checked at an authorized Mit- subishi Motors dealer or a repair facility ofyour choice as soon as possible. 1. If your vehicle has difficulty moving uphill, shift the selector lever into “L” (LOW) position (except for vehicles withsport mode) or 2nd shift range of the sports mode. This method might not work dependingon the type of transmission malfunction.
 Do not rev the engine with the brake pedal pressed when the vehicle is stationary. This can damage the CVT. Also, when you depress the accelerator pedal while holding down the brake pedal with theselector lever in the “D” (DRIVE) position, the engine revolutions may not rise as high as when performing the same operation withthe selector lever in the “N” (NEUTRAL) position.
Passing acceleration

NOTE
 In sports mode, downshifts do not take place when the accelerator is depressed all the way to the floor.
Waiting

CAUTION
CAUTION To avoid transmission overheating, never try to keep your vehicle stationary on a hill by using the accelerator pedal. Always apply the parking brake and/or service brake. Unexpected acceleration may occur if the selector lever is in a position other than “P”(PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL). Before driving off from a stop, make sure that the selector lever is in “D” (DRIVE)position or “Sports mode” position.
Parking

NOTE
 On a slope, be sure to apply the parking brake before moving the selector lever to the “P” (PARK) position. If you move the selec- tor lever to the “P” (PARK) position before applying the parking brake, it may be diffi-cult to disengage the selector lever from the “P” (PARK) position when next you drive the vehicle, requiring application of a strongforce to the selector lever to move from the “P” (PARK) position.

The Twin Clutch SST may not upshift to a higher shift position if the computer deter- mines the current speed cannot be maintainedonce a higher shift position is engaged. For smoother vehicle performance, if you release the throttle while climbing a steepgrade, the Twin Clutch SST may not upshift.This is normal, as the computer is temporarily preventing shifting. After reaching the top of the hill, normal shift function will resume.
When traveling down steep grades, the com- puter may automatically select a lower shift position. This function
assists engine braking
efforts, reducing the need for using the ser- vice brakes.

CAUTION Do not use the tendency of the vehicle to creep forward in order to drive at low speeds up hills.The transmission may be damaged and an accident may occur due to the following con- ditions.• The Twin Clutch SST fluid temperaturewill rise and can cause transmission dam-age.
• If the vehicle is continuously driven at low speeds using the tendency of the vehicle to creep forward, the vehicle will vibrate or the warning display will appear on the information screen in the multi-information display to alert the driver that the Twin Clutch SST fluid temperature has risen.After that, if the Twin Clutch SST fluid temperature rises even higher, the transmis- sion protection control will operate.If this occurs, the vehicle may suddenly reverse as if the gearshift lever was in the “N” (NEUTRAL) position and cause an accident. If the warning display appears or the transmission protection control operates, refer to “When warning display is showing” on page 5-72.
DRIVING DOWNHILLWa i t i n g

CAUTION
CAUTION Do not rev the engine unnecessarily while the vehicle is stationary. Unexpected acceler- ation may occur if the gearshift lever is in aposition other than “P” (PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL). Do not keep the vehicle in a stopped position on an uphill slope by depressing the acceler- ator pedal instead of the brake pedal.The transmission may be damaged and an accident may occur due to the following con- ditions.• The Twin Clutch SST fluid temperaturewill rise and can cause transmission dam- age.

Cruise control is an automatic speed control system. It lets you keep the same driving speed. Cruise control can be activated atabout 25 mph (40 km/h) or more. It is espe-cially useful for freeway driving. Cruise con- trol does not work at speeds below about 25 mph (40 km/h).
Electric power steering system (EPS)
(if so equipped)NOTE
 During repeated full-lock turning of the steering wheel (for example, while you are manoeuvring the vehicle into a parkingspace), a protection function may be acti- vated to prevent overheating of the power steering system. This function will make thesteering wheel gradually harder to turn. In this event, limit your tu
rning of the steering
wheel for a while. When the system hascooled down, the steering effort will return to normal.  If you turn the steering wheel while the vehi- cle is stationary with the headlights on, the headlights may become dim. This behavioris not abnormal. The headlights will return to their original brightness after a short while.
Electronic power steering system warning display

CAUTION If the warning display appears while the engine is running, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer ora repair facility of your choice as soon as possible. It may become harder to turn the steering wheel.
Cruise control
(if so equipped)
CAUTION For safety reasons, the cruise control system should be set to the “OFF” position by press- ing the “ON OFF” switch (A) when you are not using the cruise control system. Do not use cruise control when driving con- ditions will not allow you to stay at the same speed, such as in heavy traffic or on roadsthat are winding, icy, snowy, wet, slippery or on a steep downhill slope. On vehicles with manual transaxle, do not move the gearshift lever to the “N” (Neutral) position while driving at a set speed withoutdepressing the clutch pedal. The engine will run too fast and might be damaged. NOTE
 Cruise control may not be able to keep your speed on uphills or downhills.  Your speed may drop on a steep uphill. You may have to use the accelerator pedal if you want to stay at your set speed.  Your speed may increase to more than the set speed on a steep downhill. You must use the brake to control your speed.
