This function turns on the front side-marker and parking lights for about 30 seconds after the UNLOCK button (A) on the remote con-trol transmitter is pressed when the combina- tion headlights and dimmer switch is in the “OFF” or “AUTO” position (for vehiclesequipped with the automatic light control). On vehicles equipped with the automatic light control, the welcome light function will oper-ate only when it is dark outside the vehicle.

4. The headlights will come on in the low beam setting for about 30 seconds. Afterthe headlights go off, the headlights can be turned on again in the low beam setting for about 30 seconds by pulling the turnsignal lever toward you within 60 seconds of turning the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position. To turn on the head-lights again after 60 seconds of turningthe ignition switch to the “LOCK” posi- tion, repeat the process from step 1.

The direction of the headlight beam (thedirection in which the light shines) alters according to the number of people and theload in the vehicle. Lower the headlight angle if it is too high due to the number of people and/or the load in the vehicle so that the head-lights’ glare does not distract the drivers of approaching vehicles. The front fog lights illuminate only when the headlights are on low beam. Turning the knob in the direction of the “ON”position turns on the front fog lights as well as the indicator in the instrument cluster. To turn them off, turn the knob in the direction ofthe “OFF” position. The knob will return to the neutral position when it is released.
NOTE
 A light in the instrument panel flashes to show when the front and rear turn signal lights are working properly. If this light flashes faster than usual, checkfor a burned out light bulb or malfunctioning connection. If the panel light does not come on when thelever is moved, check for a blown fuse or a burned out bulb in the panel. Have the vehicle inspected by an authorizedMitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice.
 The turn signal light 3-flash function for lane changes can be deactivated. See your authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer for details.  You can adjust the time required to operate the lever for the 3-flash function. See your authorized Mitsubishi Motorsdealer for details.

The windshield wiper and washer can be operated with the ignition switch in the “ON”or “ACC” position. If the blades are frozen to the windshield, do not operate the wipers until the ice has meltedand the blades are freed, otherwise the wiper motor may be damaged.

With the lever in the “INT” (speed sensitiveintermittent operation) position, the intermit- tent intervals can be adjusted by turning theknob (A).
NOTE
 If the headlights are switched to high beam, the front fog lights will go
out; they will illu-
minate again when the headlights areswitched back to low beam.  If the combination headlights and dimmer switch is rotated to the “OFF” or “ ” posi- tion while the front fog lights are illumi-nated, they will automatically turn off. They can be turned back on again by rotating the combination headlights and dimmer switch back to “ ” position, and turning the knob in the direction of the “ON” position.

CAUTION If the washer is used in cold weather, the washer fluid sprayed against the glass may freeze, which may hinder visibility. Warm the glass with the defroster before using thewasher.

1- (DOOR) The dome light comes on when any door is opened. When all
the doors are closed,
the dome light illuminates for about 30 seconds then goes off. However, the light goes off immediately if: The door is closed while the ignition switch is in the “ON” position.
 The driver’s door is closed after all the other doors are closed while the lockknob of the driver’s door is in the lock position.  The door is closed and the power door lock switch is used
to lock the doors.
 In vehicles equipped with the keyless entry system, the keyless entry systemremote control transmitter is used to lock the doors.  In vehicles equipped with the F.A.S.T.-key, the doors are lockedusing the F.A.S.T.-key.NOTE
 When the engine is started using the key while the doors are closed, if you remove the key, the dome light will illuminate for about 30 seconds before going off.  When the engine is started using the F.A.S.T.-key while the doors are closed, ifthe ignition switch is moved to the “LOCK” position, the dome light will illuminate for about 30 seconds before going off.  The time until the light goes off can be adjusted. Storage spaces
CAUTION Never leave lighters, carbonated drink cans, or spectacles in the cabin when parking the vehicle in hot sunshine. The cabin will become extremely hot, so lighters and otherflammable items may catch fire and unopened drink cans (including beer cans) may rupture. The heat may also deform or crack plastic spectacle parts. Keep the lids of storage spaces closed while driving the vehicle. A lid or the contents of a storage space could otherwise cause injuriesduring a sudden stop.

Replace your tires before they are heavily worn out. As your vehicle is equipped with a tire pres- sure monitoring system, there is a risk ofdamage to the tire inflation pressure sensors when the tire is replaced on the rim. Tire replacement should, therefore, be performedonly by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer. Have someone watch while you turn all the exterior lights on and off. Also check the turn signal indicators and high-beam indicators on the instrument panel. Check the ground under the vehicle after parking overnight, for fuel, water, oil, orother leaks. Make sure all the fluid levels are correct. Also, if you can smell fuel, you need to find out why immediately and have itfixed.

 Check the battery, including terminals and cables. During extremely cold weather, the battery will not be as strong. Also, thebattery power level may drop because more power is used for cold starting and driving.
Before driving the vehicle, check to see if the engine runs at the proper speed and if the headlights are as bright as normally. Charge or replace the battery if necessary.During extreme cold weather, it is possi- ble that a very low battery could freeze.  Warm the engine sufficiently. After start- ing the engine, allow a short warm-up time to distribute oil
to all cylinders and
turbocharger. Then drive your vehicle slowly.  Stay at low speeds at first so that the transaxle, transfer case and rear axle oil have time to spread to all the lubrication points. Manual transaxle can be harder to shift in cold weather conditions. This is normal and shifting will get easier as the transaxlewarms up.  Check the engine antifreeze.

If your vehicle breaks down on the road, move to the shoulder and turn on the hazardwarning flashers. If there is no shoulder, or the shoulder is not safe, drive in the right lane slowly, with the hazard lights flashing, untilyou come to a safe stopping place. Keep the flashers flashing. If the engine stops, there will be no power assist to the steering and brakes, making these difficult to use.  The brake booster will not work, so the brakes will not grip well. The brake pedalwill be harder to press than usual.  Since there is no power steering assist, the steering wheel will be hard to turn.
Get help from your passengers, bystanders, etc. to push the vehicl
e and move it to a safe

If the engine cannot be started because the battery is weak or dead, you can start it withthe battery from another vehicle using jumper cables. 1. Take off any metal jewelry such as watch bands or bracelets that might make an accidental electrical contact. 2. Position the vehicles close enough together so that the jumper cables can reach, but be sure the vehicles aren’ttouching each other.
3. You could be injured if the vehicles move. Set the parking brake firmly on each vehi-cle. Put an automatic transaxle, CVT or Twin Clutch SST in “P” (PARK) or a manual transaxle in “N” (Neutral). Turnthe ignition key to the “LOCK” position. 4. Make sure your battery electrolyte is at the proper level. (Refer to “Checking bat- tery electrolyte level” on page 9-15.)
