on,

anti-lock
braking
system
is not
functioning
and only the ordinary braking system is functioning.Park
your
vehicle

place
and
stop

engine.
Test the system as described on page 5-75.
If the light does not go out after the test

gasolines
to increase the octane numbe
r.
Mitsubishi
Motors
Corporation
recommends
using gasolines without MMT
.
Use
of
gasolines
blended
with
MMT
may
adversely
affect
performance,
and
cause
the
malfunction
indicator
on
your
instrument
panel
to come
on.
If this
happens,
contact
an
authorized
Mitsubishi
Motors
dealer
or
a
repair facility of your choice for assistance.Your
vehicle
may
have
been
designed
to sat-
isfy
California’
s low-emission
regulations
based
on
clean-burning
low-sulfur
gasoline.
Gasoline
sold

parts

country
other
than
California
is allowed
to
have
a higher
sulfur
content.

such
gasoline
could
adversely
affect
the

s catalytic

rear

depressing
the
brake
pedal
on
vehi-
cles
equipped
with
continuously
variable
transmission
(CVT)
or the
clutch
pedal
on
the
vehicles
equipped
with
manual
trans-
axle,
press
the
accelerator
pedal
halfway
and
hold
it there,
then
crank
the
engine.
Release
the
accelerator
pedal,
immedi-
ately after the engine starts.3.If the
engine
still
will
not
start,
the
engine
could
be
flooded
with
too
much
gasoline.
While
depressing
the
brake
pedal
on
vehi-
cles
equipped
with
CVT
or
the
clutch
pedal
on
the
vehicles
equi
pped
with
man-
ual
transaxle,
push
the
accelerator
pedal
all
the
way
down
and
hold
it there,
then
crank
the
engine
for
5
to
6
seconds.
Return
the
ignition
switch
to the
“LOCK”
position
and
release
the
accelerator
pedal.
Wait
a few
seconds,
and
then
crank
the
engine
again
for
5 to
6 seconds
while
depressing
the
brake
pedal
or
the
clutch
pedal,
but
do
not
push
the
accelerator
pedal.
Release
the
ignition
key
if
the
engine
starts.
If the
engine
fails
to
start,
repeat
these
procedures.
If the
engine
still
will
not
start,
contact
your
local

dealer

a repair
facility

your choice for assistance.
When
the
ambient
temperature
is
-4°F
(-20°C)
or
lower
, it may
not
be
possible
to
start
from
a standstill
even
with
the
selector
lever
in
the
“D”
(DRIVE)

“R”
(REVERSE) position.This
phenomenon
occurs
because
the
trans-
axle
has
not
warmed
up
suf
ficiently;
it does
not
indicate
a problem.
If this
occurs,
place
the
selector
lever
in the
“P”
(PARK)
position
and let the engine idle for at least 10 minutes.The
transaxle
will
warm
up,
and
you
will
be
able to drive normally

The
emer
gency
key
is built
into
the
F.A.S.T
.-
key
.
When
the
F.A.S.T
.-key
cannot
be
used,
such
as when
the
battery
of the
F.A.S.T
.-key
or the
vehicle

run
down,
the
emer
gency
key
can
be
used
to
lock
and
unlock
the
driver
’s door
and to start the engine. To use
the
eme
rgency
key
(1),
unlock
the
lock
knob
(2)
and
remove
it from
the
F.A.S.T
.-key
(3). Turn
the
emer
gency
key
toward

front
of
the
vehicle
to
lock
the
door
. After
checking
that
the
door
is locked,
turn

key back to the center and remove it.

Use the following procedure to test the sys-tem: 1. Lower the driver’s window. 2. Arm the system as explained in “Armed stage”. 3. Make sure that the theft-alarm indicatorcomes on and flashes for approximately 20 seconds. 4. Wait a few seconds and then unlock thedriver’s side door by using the inside door lock knob and open the door. 5. Check to be sure that the horn soundsintermittently and the headlights blink on and off when a door is opened. 6. Disarm the system by unlocking all doorsby the remote control transmitter or the F. A . S . T. - k e y.

Testing the theft-alarm system

 Never try to operate the main switch and sub switch in different directions at the sametime. This will freeze the window in posi- tion.  Operating the power windows repeatedly with the engine stopped will run down the battery. Use the window switches only whilethe engine is running. WA R N I N G Before operating the power windows, make sure that nothing can be trapped(head, hands, fingers, etc.) in the window.
