4. Insert the valid F.A.S.T.-key into the emergency key. 5. Turn the emergency key with F.A.S.T.- key to the “ON” position. (Perform the following procedure within 30 seconds)6. Remove the F.A.S.T.-key from the emer- gency key. 7. With the first valid F.A.S.T.-key, press theUNLOCK button (2) and the LOCK but-ton (1) simultaneously for 4 to 10 sec- onds. 8. Release in sequence the LOCK andUNLOCK buttons within 10 seconds of pressing the LOCK button in step 7. (Per- form the following procedure within 30seconds) 9. With the second valid F.A.S.T.-key, press the UNLOCK button for 4 to 10 secondsand press the LOCK button during this time.
10. Release in sequence the LOCK and
UNLOCK buttons within 10 seconds of pressing the LOCK button in step 9, and the immobilizer display will blink on theinformation screen in the multi-informa- tion display. (Perform the following pro- cedure within 60 seconds)
11. Press the LOCK button twice with the
blank F.A.S.T.-key and the immobilizer display will come on for 30 seconds onthe information screen in the multi-infor-mation display.
12. This completes the registration of the
F. A . S . T. - k e y.

 The indicator light (4) comes on each time a button is pressed.  The keyless entry system does not work if the key is in the ignition switch.  The F.A.S.T.-key can be used from about 40 feet (12 m) away. However, this distance may change if your vehicle is near a TVtransmitting tower, a power station, or a radio station.  If the UNLOCK button (2) is pressed when all doors and the rear hatch are locked and nodoors or rear hatch are opened within about 30 seconds, the doors and the rear hatch will automatically re-lock.
 If the following conditions are observed after pressing the buttons on the remote control transmitter, the battery in the remote control transmitter may need to be replaced. • The doors and the rear hatch cannot be locked or unlocked. • The panic alarm cannot be operated. • The indicator light (4) is dim or does not come on.
 If you lose your F.A.S.T.-key, please contact an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer for a replacement.  If you wish to obtain an
additional F.A.S.T.-

The alarm will be activated if any of the fol- lowing occur while the vehicle is parked andthe system is armed.  One of the doors and the rear hatch is opened without using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation. The engine hood is opened.
When the alarm is activated: 1. The headlights blink on and off for 3 min- utes.After 3 minutes the headlights automati- cally shut off. 2. The horn will sound intermittently for 3minutes.
Type 1
Type 2 The alarm can be deactivated in the following ways.  By using the keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation to lock or unlock the door or rear hatch. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” posi- tion.

Use the following procedure to test the sys- tem:
1. Lower the driver’s window. 2. Arm the system as explained in “Armed stage”. 3. Make sure that the theft-alarm indicatorcomes on and flashes for approximately 20 seconds. 4. Wait a few seconds and then unlock thedriver’s side door by using the inside door lock knob and open the door. 5. Check to be sure that the horn soundsintermittently and the headlights blink onand off when the door is opened. 6. Disarm the system by unlocking all doors and the rear hatch by using the keylessentry system or the F.A.S.T.-key opera- tion.

The main switch located on the driver’s door can be used to operate all door windows. A window can be opened or closed by operat- ing the corresponding switch.Press the switch down to open the window, and pull up the switch to close it. If the driver’s door window switch is fullypressed down/pulled up, the driver’s door window automatically opens/closes com- pletely.
NOTE
 If the UNLOCK button on the remote control transmitter, or the driver’s or front passen- ger’s door lock/unlock switch is pressedwhen all doors and the rear hatch are closed and no door is opened

NOTE
 Never try to operate the main switch and sub switch in different directions at the same time. This will freeze the window in posi- tion.  Operating the power windows repeatedly with the engine stopped will run down the battery. Use the window switches only whilethe engine is running. WA R N I N G Before operating the power windows, make sure that nothing can be trapped(head, hands, fingers, etc.) in the window.  Never leave the vehicle with the key in the ignition switch.  Never leave a child alone in the vehicle.

If you want to stop the window movement, operate the switch lightly in the reverse direc- tion.
Each sub switch can be used for its own pas- senger door window, unless the driver’s win-dow lock switch is activated. The power windows can be run up or down when the ignition switch is in the “ON” posi- tion. The door windows can be opened or closedfor a 30 second period after the ignition switch is turned to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position. However, once the driver’s door orthe front passenger’s door is opened, the power windows cannot be operated.

If a hand or head is trapped, for safety the door window is automatically lowered a little. After the door window is lowered, pull up the switch again to close the door window.

Safety mechanism (Driver’s door window only)
WA R N I N G If the safety mechanism is activated three or more times successively, the safetymechanism will be temporarily cancelled. If a hand or head subsequently gets trapped, a serious injury can result. The safety mechanism is deactivated while the switch is pulled up continuously.Therefore be especially careful that hands or head are not trapped in the door win- dow opening. Do not deliberately trap your hands or head in order to activate the safety mecha-nism. Your hand or head could be trapped and personal injury could result.CAUTION The safety mechanism is deactivated just before the door window closes. This allowsthe door window to close completely. There- fore be especially careful that fingers are not trapped in the door window opening.

To park the vehicle, first bring it to a com- plete stop, fully engage the parking brake,and then move the gearshift lever to 1st (on a uphill) or “R” (Reverse) (on a downhill) posi- tion for vehicles equipped with a manualtransaxle, set the selector lever {continuously variable transmission (CVT)} or the gearshift lever (Twin Clutch SST) to “P” (PARK) posi-tion for vehicles equipped with CVT or TwinClutch SST.
When parking on a hill, apply the parking brake and turn the front wheels toward thecurb on a downhill grade, away from the curb on an uphill grade.

To apply 1- Pull the lever up without pushing the
button at the end of hand grip. When the parking brake is set and the ignition switch is in the “ON” position, the brake warning light in the instru- ment cluster will come on. Before driving, be sure to release the parking brake.
To release 1- Pull the lever up slightly. 2- Push and hold the
button at the end of
the hand grip.
3- Push the lever downward.

Adjust the inside mirror to maximize the view through the rear window. It is possible to move the mirror up and down to adjust its position.
It is possible to move the mirror up/down and left/right to adjust its position.
The day/night knob (A) at the bottom of the mirror can be used to adjust the mirror toreduce the glare from the headlights of vehi- cles behind you during night driving. When the headlights of the vehicles behind you are very bright, the reflection factor ofthe rearview mirror is automatically changed to reduce the glare.

The outside mirror can be folded in toward the side window to prevent damage whenparking in tight locations.

When the rear window defogger switch is pressed with the engine running, the outside rearview mirrors are defogged or defrosted.Current will flow through the heater element inside the mirrors, thus clearing away frost or condensation.
The indicator light (A) will illuminate while the defogger is on. The heater will be turned off automatically in about 20 minutes.

Remove the key at the “LOCK” position. Turn the steering wheel until it is locked. Turn the key to the “ACC” position while moving the steering wheel slightly.

 Do not operate the starter motor continu- ously for longer than 15 seconds as thiscould run the battery down or damage the starter motor. If the engine does not start, turn the ignition switch back to the“LOCK” position, wait a few seconds, and then try again. Trying repeatedly with the engine or starter motor still turningwill damage the starter mechanism.  If the engine will not start because the bat- tery is weak or discharged, refer to“Jump-starting the engine” (on page 8-2) for instructions.
 If the engine is turned off while driving, the power brake booster will stop functioning and braking efficiency will be reduced. Also, the power steering system will not function and it will require greater effort to manuallysteer the vehicle. Do not leave the key in the “ON” position for a long time when the engine is not running. This will cause the battery to run down. Do not turn the key to the “START” position when the engine is running. It will damage the starter motor.

6. On vehicles equipped with manual trans- axle, place the gearshift lever in the “N” (Neutral) position. On vehicles equipped with continuouslyvariable transmission (CVT) or Twin Clutch SST, make sure the selector lever (CVT) or the gearshift lever (Twin ClutchSST) is in the “P” (PARK) position. 7. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” posi- tion and make certain that all warning lights are functioning properly before starting the engine.
8. Turn the ignition switch to the “START” position without pressing the accelerator pedal. Release the key when the engine starts.
After several attempts, you may experience that the engine still does not start. 1. Make sure that all electric devices, such as lights, air conditioning blower and rearwindow defogger, are turned off. 2. While depressing the brake pedal on vehi- cles equipped with continuously variabletransmission (CVT) or the clutch pedal on the vehicles equipped with manual trans- axle, press the accelerator pedal halfwayand hold it there, then crank the engine. Release the accelerator pedal, immedi- ately after the engine starts.
3. If the engine still will not start, the engine could be flooded with too much gasoline. While depressing the brake pedal on vehi- cles equipped with CVT or the clutchpedal on the vehicles equipped with man- ual transaxle, push the accelerator pedal all the way down and hold it there, thencrank the engine for 5 to 6 seconds. Return the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position and release the accelerator pedal.Wait a few seconds, and then crank theengine again for 5 to 6 seconds while depressing the brake pedal or the clutch pedal, but do not push the acceleratorpedal. Release the ignition key if the engine starts. If the engine fails to start, repeat these procedures. If the engine stillwill not start, contact your local Mitsubi- shi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice for assistance.
When the ambient temperature is -4 °F (-20 °C) or lower on vehicles equipped with CVT, -22 °F (-30 °C) or lower on vehicles equippedwith Twin Clutch SST, it may not be possible
NOTE
 On vehicles equipped with CVT, the starter will not operate unless the selector lever is inthe “P” (PARK) or “N” (NEUTRAL) posi- tion. On vehicles equipped with Twin Clutch SST,the starter will not operate unless the gear- shift lever is in the “P” (PARK) position or the gearshift lever is in the “N” (NEUTRAL)position with the brake pedal depressed. For safety reasons, start the engine in the “P” (PARK) position so that the wheels arelocked.
NOTE
 Minor noises may be heard on engine start- up. These will disappear as the engine warms up.
