To reduce the possibili
ty of catalytic con-
verter damage:  Use UNLEADED GASOLINE ONLY of the type of recommended in the “Fuel selection”. Do not drive with an extremely low fuel level. Running out of gas could damage the catalytic converter. Do not try to start the engine by pushing or towing the vehicle. If the battery is weak or run down, use jumper cables toproperly start the engine.
 Do not idle the engine with any spark plug wires disconnected or removed, such aswhen performing
diagnosti
c tests.
 Do not idle the engine
for a long time if it
is idling roughly or otherwise obviouslymalfunctioning.  To prevent the catalytic converter from being damaged from unburned gas, do notrace the engine when turning off the igni- tion switch.  Stop driving the vehicle if you think the performance is noticeably low, or the engine has a malfunction such as with theignition, etc. If you are not able to stop driving immediately,
slow down and drive
for only a short time. Have your vehiclechecked at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice as soon
as possible.
 In unusual situations involving major engine problems, a burning odor may indicate severe and abnormal catalyticconverter overheating.
If this occurs, stop
in a safe place, shut the engine off and let the vehicle cool. Once
the engine is cool,
immediately take your
vehicle to a dealer
or a repair facility of your choice for ser- vice.

Use the engine hood release lever (located under the instrument panel near the driver’s door) to unlock the engine hood. Pull the lever toward you to release the engine hood latch.

commends using only
engine oils with the ILSAC certification sym- bol on the front of the container. If you cannot find oils
with the ILSAC certi-
fication symbol, use an
API classification SN
oil with the following label. This mark appears on the top of the oil con-tainer and tells you two important things about the oil.
Use engine oil with the proper thickness for the outdoor temperatures where you will bedriving.
SAE 0W-20 engine oil is strongly recom- mended for optimum fuel economy and coldstarting. If SAE 0W-20 is not available, the ILSAC certification oil of othe
r viscosity grades can
be temporarily used. The oil filter should be replaced at the time or mileage specified in the “WARRANTY AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL”. Only use high quality replacement filters onthis vehicle. The manufacturer’s specifica- tions for Mitsubishi Mo
tors Genuine oil fil-
ters require that the
filter can withstand a
pressure of 256 psi (1.8 MPa). A Mitsubishi Motors Genuine oil filter is the best replace- ment filter.

When the engine is cold, the level of the cool- ant in the reserve tank should be between the FULL and LOW marks. The radiator usuallystays full so there is no reason to remove the radiator cap (B) except when you check the
coolant freeze point or
replace the antifreeze
coolant.

fluid is kept at the correct level. The fluid level should be checked when the bar graph for the engine coolant temperaturedisplay on the multi-information display shows the engine is wa
rmed up and the fluid
in the transaxle is heated to its normal work-ing temperature. Driving with the wrong fluid level will rapidly wear
out the transaxle and
destroy the fluid.

1. With the brake pedal fully depressed and the engine idling,
select each gear
momentarily, ending with the selectorlever in the “P” (PARK) position. 2. The fluid level should be at the HOT mark, but never a
bove the HOT mark
when the engine is warmed up. Add or drain fluid to get to the correct level. 3. Make certain that the dipstick cap is installed properly to
keep dirt and water
out of the transaxle.

Maximum Pressure indicates the maximum permissible cold tire infla- tion pressure for this tire. The TIN may be found on one or both sides of the tire but the datecode may only be on one side. Look for the TIN on the outboard side of tires as mounted on the vehicle. If theTIN is not found on the outboard side then you will find it on the inboard side of the tire.

The treadwear grade is a comparative rating based on the wear rate of the tire when testedunder controlled conditions on a specified government test course. For example, a tire graded 150 would wear one and one-half (11/2) times as well on th

their use, however, and may depart signifi-cantly from the norm due to variations in driving habits, service

To prevent freezing of the weatherstripping on the doors, engine hood, etc., they shouldbe treated with silicone grease. It is a good idea to carry a shovel or a short- handled spade in the vehicle during the win-ter so that you can clear away snow if you get stranded.
