1. Pull the liftgate grip (B) downward asillustrated and release it before the liftgatecloses completely. Gently close the lift-gate from the outside so that it is com-pletely closed.

following conditions are
met.The operation mode is in OFF.The power liftgate is completely closed.The power liftgate is unlocked.
The operation mode is in ON with theselector lever in the “P” (PARK) position.

The power liftgate is unlocked.The F.A.S.T.-key is within the operatingrange (2.3 feet (70 cm) from the powerliftgate open switch) and the power lift-gate is locked.
The power liftgate can be closed automati-cally when all of the following conditions aremet.The operation mode is in OFF.The power liftgate is completely open.Nothing is touching th
e auto reverse sen-
sors (A) on the power liftgate.
CAUTIONDo not apply excessive force to the powerliftgate when opening or closing it. Doing socould damage to th
e power liftgate.
NOTE
Do not start the engine while the power lift-gate is operating. The sudden operation pre-vention mechanism c
ould operate, making
the power liftgate stop intermittently while itmoves.The power liftgate cannot be opened whenthe battery is discha
rged or disconnected.
The liftgate must be then opened using theinside liftgate release.Refer to “Inside lift
gate release” on page
5-46.If the keyless entry system or close switch isoperated when the pow
er liftgate main
switch is off, the warning buzzer sounds 4times to notify the driver that the power lift-gate cannot
be operated.
The power liftgate does not operate normallyunder the following conditions:• When parked on an incline• In strong winds• When the power liftga
te is covered with
snow
Repeated continuous
opening and closing
operation of the power lif
tgate will activate a
built-in protection ci
rcuit and switch the
power liftgate to
manual operation.
If one of the power lift
gate switches is oper-
ated while the power lift
gate is operating, the
power liftgate will reve
rse and return to the
full open or close position.If the selector lever is moved from “P”the power liftgate is operating or completelyopen, a warning buzzer will sound forapproximately 10 sec
onds to notify the
driver that the power liftgate is open.If the battery or fuse is replaced while thepower liftgate is open,
it cannot be closed
automatically.In this case close the power liftgate manu-ally.

Park the vehicle and st
op the engine. Arm the
system as described below.1. Except for vehicles equipped with theF.A.S.T.-key, remove the key from theignition switch.For vehicles equipped with the F.A.S.T.-key, put the operation mode in OFF.2. Make sure that the engine hood is closed.3. Lock all doors and the liftgate by usingthe keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-key operation.
At this time, the theft-alarm indicator (A)mation.4. The system has entered the armed stageafter about 20 seconds, when the theft-alarm indicator (A) flashing becomesslower.The theft-alarm indicator (A) continues toflash while the system is in the armedstage.

The alarm will be activated if any of the fol-lowing occur while the ve
hicle is parked and
the system is armed.One of the doors and the liftgate is openedwithout using the keyless entry system orthe F.A.S.T.-key operation.The engine hood is opened.
CAUTIONDo not modify or add parts to the theft-alarmsystem. Doing so could cause the theft-alarmto malfunction.
Armed stage Arm the system and leave
NOTE
If the engine hood is open, the theft-alarmindicator (A) illuminates and the system can-not enter the armed stage.The system enters the armed stage about 20seconds after the e
ngine hood is closed.
The system will be disarmed if, while thetheft-alarm indicator (A) is illuminated, alldoors and the liftgate are unlocked by usingthe keyless entry system or the F.A.S.T.-keyoperation.
The system will be disarmed if, while thetheft-alarm indicator is illuminated, the fol-lowing operation is performed.• Except for vehicles equipped with theF.A.S.T.-key, if the ignition switch is turnedto the “ON” position.• For vehicles equippe
d with the F.A.S.T.-
key, if the operation mode is put in ON.
The system will not be armed if a door, theliftgate or the engine
hood is not completely
closed. If this happens, rearm the system asdescribed above.The theft-alarm system can be activatedwhen people are riding inside the vehicle orwhen the windows are open. To prevent acci-dental activati
on of the alarm, do not set the
system to the system armed mode while peo-ple are riding in the vehicle.

With the ignition switch in the “ON” or“ACC” position or the
operation mode in ON
or ACC, push the mirror retractor switch toretract the mirrors. Push it again to extend themirrors to their original positions.After placing the ignition switch in the“LOCK” position or the operation mode inOFF, it is possible to
retract and extend the
mirrors using the mirror retractor switch forapproximately 30 seconds.
[Vehicles with the keyless entry system]The mirrors automatically retract or extendwhen the doors are locked or unlocked usingthe remote control switches of the keylessentry system.Refer to “Keyless entry system” on page 5-7.[Vehicles with the Free-hand Advanced Secu-rity Transmitter (F.A.S.T-key)]The mirrors automatically retract or extendwhen the doors are locked or unlocked usingthe remote control switches or the F.A.S.T-key.Refer to “Keyless entry system” on page 5-30or “To operate using the F.A.S.T.-key” onpage 5-15.
For vehicles equipped with the mirrorretractor switchRetracting and extending the mir-rors using the mirror retractor switch
CAUTIONIt is possible to retract and extend the mirrorsby hand. After retracti
ng a mirror using the
mirror retractor switch, however, you shouldextend it by using the switch again, not byhand. If you extended the mirror by handafter retracting it using
the switch, it would
not properly lock in pos
ition. As a result, it
could move because of the wind or vibrationwhile you are driving, taking away your rear-ward visibility.NOTE
Be careful not to get your hands trappedwhile a mirror is moving.If you move a mirror by hand or it movesafter hitting a person or object, you may notbe able to return it to its original positionusing the mirror retractor switch. If this hap-pens, push the mirror retractor switch toplace the mirror in its
retracted position and
then push the switch again to return the mir-ror to its original position.When freezing has occurred and mirrors failto operate as intended,
please refrain from
repeated pushing of the retractor switch asthis action can result in burn-out of the mir-ror motor circuits.
