® to operate a garage
door, gate, or entry door opener, home or office lighting, you need to be at the same location as the device. 1. Press the HomeLink
® button that you
would like to program. The indicator light (A) will flash orange slowly.
2. Position the end of your hand-held trans- mitter (B) 1 to 3 inches (2 to 8 cm) away from the HomeLink
® button while keep-
ing the indicator light in view.
 You can program a maximum of 3 devices. To change or replace any of the 3 devices after it has been initially programmed, you must first erase the current settings. See “Cleaning the programmed information”on page 5-169 or “Reprogramming a single HomeLink
® button” on page 5-170.

Continue pressing the button until theindicator light (A) changes from slowly flashing orange to either rapidly flashing green (rolling code) or continuously litgreen (fixed code). programmed and observe the indicatorlight. • If the indicator light continuously illumi- nates green, programming is completeand your device should operate when the HomeLink

button. Repeat the “press/hold/release” sequence a second time, and, depending on the brand of the garage door opener (or other rolling code equipped device),repeat this sequence a third time to com- plete the programming process. At this point if your device operates, program-ming is complete.
• If the device does not operate, continue with “Programming a new HomeLink
®”
steps 5 to 7 to complete the program- ming of a rolling code equipped device.
5. At the garage door opener receiver (motor-head unit) in the garage, locate the “Learn” or “Smart” button. This can usu-ally be found where the hanging antenna wire is attached to the motor-head unit (see the garage door opener manual toidentify the “Learn” button.)6. Firmly press and release the “Learn” or “Smart” button. (The name and color of the button may vary by manufacturer.)There are typically 30 seconds to initiate step 7. 7. Return to the vehicle and firmly press,hold for 2 seconds and release the pro- grammed HomeLink
® button. Repeat the
“press/hold/release” sequence a secondtime, and, depending on the brand of the garage door opener (or other rolling code equipped device), repeat this sequence athird time to complete the programming process. HomeLink
® should now activate your
rolling code equipped device.
NOTE
 Some hand-held transmitters may actually train better from a distance of 6 to 12 inches (15 to 20 cm). Keep this in mind if you havedifficulty with the programming process.

 Some devices may require you to replace this “Programming a new HomeLink
®” step 3

For a safer and more enjoyable trip, always check for the following:  Before starting the vehicle, make certain that you and all passengers are seated and wearing their seat belts properly (with children in the rear seat, in appropriaterestraints), and that all the doors and lift- gate are locked.  Move the driver’s seat as far backward as possible, while still keeping good visibil- ity, and good control of the steering wheel, brakes, accelerator, and controls.Check the instrument panel indicators and multi-information display for any possible problem. In the same way, the front passenger seat should also be moved as far back as possi- ble. Make sure that infants and small children are properly restrained in accordance with all laws and regulations.
Check these by selecting the defroster mode, and set the blower switch on high. Youshould be able to feel the air blowing against the windshield. Refer to “Defrosting or defogging (wind-shield, door windows)” on page 7-8, 7-13, 7-18, 7-24. Check all the tires for heavy tread wear or uneven wear patterns. Look for stones, nails, glass, or other objects stuck in the tread. Look for any tread cuts or sidewall cracks. Checkthe wheel nuts for tightness, and the tires (including spare tire) for proper pressure. Replace your tires before they are heavilyworn out. As your vehicle is equipped with a tire pres- sure monitoring system, there is a risk ofdamage to the tire inflation pressure sensors when the tire is replaced on the rim. Tire replacement should, therefore, be performedonly by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer.
Have someone watch while you turn all the exterior lights on and off. Also check the turnsignal indicators and high-beam indicators on the instrument panel. Check the ground under the vehicle after parking overnight, for fuel, water, oil, or other leaks. Make sure all the fluid levels are correct. Also, if you can smell fuel, you needto find out why immediately and have it fixed.

 Before changing lanes, check your mir- rors and use your turn-signal light.  While driving, watch the behavior of other drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians. Always obey applicable laws and regula- tions. Be a polite and alert driver. Always leave room for unexpected events, such assudden braking.  If you plan to drive in another country, obey their vehicle registration laws andmake sure you will be able to get the rightfuel.

 Check the battery. At the same time, check the terminals and wiring. During extremely cold weather, the battery will not be as strong. Also, the battery powerlevel may drop because more power is used for cold starting and driving. Before driving the vehicle, check to see ifthe engine runs at the proper speed and if the headlights are as bright as normally. Charge or replace the battery if necessary.During extreme cold weather, it is possi- ble that a very low battery could freeze.
 Warm the engine sufficiently. After start- ing the engine, allow a short warm-up time to distribute oil to all cylinders. Then drive your vehicle slowly. Stay at low speeds at first so that the transaxle, transfer case and rear axle oil have time to spread to all the lubricationpoints.  Manual transaxle can be harder to shift in cold weather conditions. This is normaland shifting will get easier as the transaxle warms up.  Check the engine antifreeze. If there is not enough coolant because of a leak or from engine overheating, add Mitsubishi Motors Genuine Super LongLife Coolant Premium or equivalent. Please read this section in conjunction with the “Engine coolant” on page 9-7.

All the parts of the brake system are criticalto safety. Have the vehicle serviced by anauthorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of your choice at regular inter- vals according to the “WARRANTY ANDMAINTENANCE MANUAL”. Check the brake system while driving at a low speed immediately after starting, espe- cially when the brakes are wet, to confirm they work normally.A film of water can be formed on the brake discs and prevent normal braking after driv- ing in heavy rain or through large puddles, orafter the vehicle is wash

3. When running the air conditioning, make sure the air intake, which is located in front of the windshield, is free of obstruc- tions such as leaves. Leaves collected inthe air-intake chamber may reduce air flow and plug the water drains.
If the air conditioning seems less effective than usual, the cause might be a refrigerantleak. Have the system inspected by your authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facilityof your choice.
The air conditioning should be operated for at least five minutes each week, even in coldweather. This includes the quick defrosting mode. Operating the air condition system weekly maintains lubrication of the compres-sor internal parts to keep the air conditioning in the best operating condition.

The air filter’s ability to collect pollen and dirt is reduced as it becomes dirty, so replace it periodically. For the maintenance interval, refer to the “WARRANTY AND MAINTE-NANCE MANUAL”.

Air conditioning system refrig- erant and lubricant recommen-dations
CAUTION The air conditioning system in your vehicle must be charged with the refrigerant HFC- 134a and the lubricant SUN-PAG56. Use of any other refrigerant or lubricant will cause severe damage and may require replac-ing your vehicle’s entire air conditioning system. The release of refrigerant into the atmo-sphere is not recommended. The new refrigerant HFC-134a in your vehi- cle is designed not to harm the earth’s ozonelayer. However, it may contribute slightly to global warming. It is recommended that the old refrigerant besaved and recycled for future use.

9. Start the engine, and slowly add coolant, up to the bottom of the filler neck. Useplain water if you have to (and replace it with the right coolant as soon as possible).
10. Replace the radiator cap and tighten it
fully. Check the engine coolant tempera- ture display on the multi-information dis- play. You can start driving again whenthe bar graph for the engine coolant tem- perature display returns to the normal zone.
11. Have the system inspected by your autho-

WA R N I N G Removing the radiator cap could scald you with escaping hot water or steam. When checking the radiator level, cover the cap with a cloth before trying to remove it. Turn it slowly counterclock-wise, without pressing down, to the first notch. The pressure in the system will then be let out. When the pressure is COM-PLETELY LET OUT, press down and keep turning the cap counterclockwise until it comes off.

Before changing a tire, first stop your vehicle in a safe, flat location. 1. Park the vehicle on level and stable ground. 2. Set the parking brake firmly.3. On vehicles equipped with manual trans- axle, stop the engine and move the gear- shift lever to the “R” (Reverse) position.On vehicles equipped with continuously variable transmission (CVT), move the selector lever to the “P” (PARK) position,and stop the engine. 4. Turn on the hazard flashers and set up a warning triangle, flashing signal light,etc., at an adequate distance from the vehicle, and have all your passengers leave the vehicle.
5. To prevent the vehicle from rolling when it is raised on the jack, place chocks or blocks (A) in front of and behind the tire that is diagonally opposite from the tire(B) you are changing.
6. Get the jack, bar and wheel nut wrench ready. (Refer to “Jack and tools” on page 8-5.)

The compact spare tire is stowed beneath the luggage floor board of the luggage compart- ment. It is designed to save space in the lug- gage compartment. Its lighter weight makes iteasier to use if a flat tire occurs.
How to change a tire
WA R N I N G The jack should not be used for any pur- pose other than to change a tire. Never get under the vehicle or put any portion of your body under the vehicle while it is supported by the jack.
WA R N I N G Be sure to apply chocks or blocks to the correct tire when jacking up the vehicle. Ifthe vehicle moves while jacked up, the jack could slip out of position, leading to an accident.NOTE
 The chocks shown in the illustration do not come with your vehicle. It is recommended that you purchase chocks or blocks and keepthem in the vehicle for use if needed.  If chocks or blocks are not available, use stones or any other objects that are large enough to hold the wheel in position.

1. Lift up the luggage floor board. 2. To remove the spare tire, remove theinstallation clamp (A) by turning it coun-terclockwise.

1. On vehicles with wheel covers, firstremove the covers (refer to “Wheel cov-ers” on page 8-11). Then, loosen the wheel nuts with the wheel nut wrench. Do not remove the wheel nuts yet. 2. Place the jack under
one of the jacking
points (A) shown in the illustration. Use the jacking point closest to the tire youwish to change.
 Driving with an improperly inflated tire can cause an accident. If you have no choice but to drive with an under-inflated tire, keep your speed down and avoid sudden steering or braking, if possible
. Inflate the tire to the
correct pressure as soon as possible. Refer to “Tire inflation pressures” on page 9-18. The compact spare tire should be used only temporarily. While the compact spare tire is being used, the tire pressure monitoring sys-tem will not function properly. Have the tire replaced or repaired at an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facilityof your choice as soon as possible. Do not go over 50 mph (80 km/h) when driv- ing with the compact spare tire. Avoid sudden starting and braking when driving with the compact spare tire. Do not drive through automatic car washes and over obstacles that could possibly dam- age the underside of your vehicle. Because the compact spare tire is smaller than theoriginal tire, there is less clearance between the ground and your vehicle. Because the compact spare tire is designed only for your vehicle, do not use it on any other vehicle. Do not put the compact spare tire on a differ- ent wheel, and do not put standard tires, snow tires, wheel covers or trim rings on the compact spare wheel. Otherwise, you coulddamage these parts or other parts on your vehicle.CAUTION
 Do not use tire chains with your compact spare tire. Using a chain could cause damage to your vehicle and loss of the chains.
