Aseta sitten
valitsinvipu "P" -asentoon ja tyhjakayta moottoria,
kunnes
varoituslamppu sammuu.
Kun
varoituslamppu sammuu, voidaan moottorla kayttaa enti­

The AfT oil temperature warning lamp comes
, on
when the AfT fluid temperature becomes
abnormally high. Normally the warning lamp comes on when
the engine switch is placed in the "ON" position, and it goes
out when the engine is started. When the lamp comes on,
reduc e the
engine revolution and move the vehicle to a safe
area . Then, set the
selector lever to "P" position and idle the
engine
until the warning lamp goes off. When the warning lamp
goes off, the vehicle can run as before . If the warning lamp does
not go off, please have your vehicle inspected at an authorized
MITSUBISHI dealer.
Diesel preheat indication lamp -green
(diesel-powered vehicles without su­
per quick glow system) E058A·C
The indication lamp illuminates red when th e ignition switch is placed at the "ON" position. As the glow plug
becomes hot. the lamp turns from red to green and the engine can be started. If the engine is not started, the preheat indication lamp goes off in about 30 seconds after the ignition switch is turned on. This is to avoid overheating of glow plug and early discharge of battery .

• Jos on mahdotonta pysayttaa auto heti, vahentakaa no­peutta ja jatkakaa ajoa vain Iyhyen matkan. Tarkastuttakaa auto lahimmassa MITSUBISHI-huoltoliikkeessa niin pian kuin mahdollista.
• Alkaa ryntayttako moottoria silloin kun sammutatte vir­takytkimen jotta katalysaattorei vaurioituisi palamatto­masta bensiinista .

Catalytic converter EC18A-Da
For ordinary use, there are no particular cautions except to use unleaded petrol.
The exhaust gas scavenging device with catalytic converter is extremely efficient for the reduction of noxious gases . The catalytic converter is installed in the ex­haust gas system .
Because it becomes
hot after driving, the following points shou ld be noted for safety.
• Do not park the vehicle on or near easily flammable
materials.
•
An undercoating paint should not be applied to the cata-
lyti c converter.
The catalytic converter itself becomes
hot easily, and may be
damaged if overheated. The following points should be noted in order to prevent the ignition of unburned petrol within the catalytic converter.
• Do not switch OFF the ignition switch while driving. • Do not try to start the engine by pushing the vehicle. If the battery is weak or discharged . us e another battery to start
the engine.
• Stop driving the vehicle if you think the performance is noticeably less , or that there is unnecessary engine rota­tion, or any other engine trouble, such as with the ignition, etc.
• If it is impractical to stop driving immediately, reduce the speed and drive for only a short time. Have an inspection made by a nearby authorized MITSUBISHI dealer as soon as possible .
• Do not race the engine when turning off the ignition switch to prevent catalytic converter from being damaged due to unburnt gas.

Maximum trailer-nose weight
Never exceed the maximun trailer-nose weight as listed in the specifications. (Refer to page 115.)
Operating hints
(1) Do not let the clutch slip (vehicles with a manual trans­mission only) and do not increase the engine speed more than necessary when starting. (2) Be sure that the driving speed does not exceed the maximum speed for trailer operation. (3) To prevent shocks from the overrun brake, depress the brake pedal lightly at first and then more strongly. (4) To make full use of engine braking, change to a lower gear
before descending a slope . (5) The body, brakes, clutch, and chassis will be under addi ­tional strain when towing a trailer . (6) The heavier weight and the higher rolling and air resistance
w ill increase fuel consumption.
Additional precautions for vehicles equipped with
an automatic transmission
It is recommended the "2" position on slopes or at low speed.
Us e the "L " position in mountainous areas in order to make
better use of engine braking and to assist the brake system. However, be sure that the speed does not exceed the maximum speed limit for the selected gear.
For
maximum speed, refer to the description of the "Possible driving speed" on page 131.

NOTE
The green illumination will automatically stop after a certain
time passes after the glow plug heating has been completed. This is in order to prevent a drain of battery power.
If the green illumination stops, turn the ignition key once more to the "LOCK" position, and then to the "ON" position, in order to preheat again.
4. Operate
the accelerator pedal as described below in accor­
dance with the atmospheric temperature and/or engine condition and then start the engine.
(1) When the atmospheric temperature is moderate or the engine is warm, start the engine without depressing the
accelerator pedal.
(2) When the atmospheric temperature is low and the engine is
co ld, start the engine while depressing the accelerator
pedal. If the atmospheric temperature is very low, setting the ignition switch to "ON" for one or two seconds before attempting to start the engine will make it easier to start.

When the outside air temperature is very low, or when it is necessary to warm up the engine, pullout the control knob to that point at which the engine runs smoothly, and then, once the warming up is complete, push the knob back in.

The knob should be pulled out to the extent that it returns less
then about 10 mm (0. 4 in.) from the fully pulled out position. If the knob doesn't move freely enough, or returns more than 10 mm (0.4 in.), adjust by turning the holder cap.
& CAUTION Never attempt to adjust the vehicle during driving by using the control knob.

The shift pattern is shown on the gear ­shift lever knob. Be sure to always fully depress the clutch pedal before attempt­ing to shift the lever. To shift into revers e from 5th gear, move the gearshift lever to the "N" position,
and then shift it into reverse .
& CAUTION Do not move the gearshift lever into reverse while the vehicle is
moving forward; doing so will damage the transmission .

The selector lever has 6
positions, and is equipped with a lock button to avoid inad vertent selectio n of the wrong gear.

This position locks the transmission to prevent the vehicle from moving. The engine can be started in this position .

N-NEUTRAl At this position the transmission is disengaged. It is the same as the neutral position on a manual transmission , and should be

-& CAUTION -Never move the lever to the '~N" position while the vehicle is being driven because engine braking becomes
inavailable. . '

(1) efore selecting a gear with the engine running and the
vehicle stationary, fully depress the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from creeping. The vehicle will begin to move as soon as the gear is
engaged , especially when the engine speed is high , at fast
idle or the air conditioner operating, the brakes should be
releas ed only when you are ready to drive away. (2) Depress the brake pedal with the right foot at all times. Using left foot could cause driver moment delay to sudden manoeuvre in case of an emergency. (3) To prevent sudden acceleration , never race the engine when shifting from the "P" or "N". (4) Operating the acceierator pedal while the other foot is
resting on the brake pedal will affect braking efficieney and
may cause premature wear of brake pads. Do not race the engine with brake pedal pressed . This
can damage the transmission .

vastakkaiseen suuntaan kuin ajosuunta, niin napalukot avautu­vat automaattisesti ja siirrytaan takapyoravetoon.
Automaattiset napalukot saattavat napsahtaa lukkituessaan tai
vapautuessaan, se ei ole kuitenkaan merkki toimintahairiosta .
Ajettaessa hyvakuntoisilla teilla takapyoravedolla , tulee napo­
jen olla "FREE" asennossa.
Mikali
joudutaan taman tasta vaihtamaan nelipyoravedosta
takapyoravetoon , voidaan navat pitaa lukittuina. Nain menetel ­
taessavoidaan vaihto nelipyoravetoon suorittaa pysahtymatta ,
ajon aikana. Automaattiset napalukot pysyvat lukittuna, mikali
siirto takapyoravetoon suoritetaan ajon aikana.

TO UNLOCK THE HUBS Move the transfer case shift lever from "4H" to "2H" and after
the vehicle has moved slowly straight ahead 1 to 2 m (3.3 to 6.6
ft.) in the opposite direction to the direction traveled (reverse if
the vehicle was moving forward, or forward if the vehicle was moving in reverse) , the hubs will automatically unlock, and
rear-wheel drive will be resumed.
The automatic free-wheeling hubs may make a noise when locking or unlocking, however, this does not indicate any malfunction. For rear -wheel drive on roads in good condition, the automatic free-wheeling hubs should be unlocked.
If changing from four-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive is to be done intermittently, it is possible to leave the automatic free­wheeling hubs locked . If this is done, the change to four-wheel drive can be made while driving, without stopping the vehicle.
The automatic free-wheeling hubs will remain locked during rear-wheel drive if the transfer shift lever is moved to "2H" during driving.

& CAUTION (1) Even if automatic free-wheeling hubs are left locked during rear-wheel drive, they will be un­locked if the vehicle is reversed during starting on an uphill grade, a U-turn, etc. If this happens, the transfer shift lever cannot be moved to the "4H" position during driving; the vehicle must first be completely stopped. (2) If, during four-wheel drive operation, the vehicle becomes stuck and a back-and-forth rocking mo­tion is used to free it, the automatic free-wheeling hubs may become unlocked because of the back­ward movement. If the engine is subsequently revved up and the clutch let out suddenly, the automatic free-wheeling hubs may not lock, and a noise of grinding gears will be heard, however, this is not a malfunction. In addition, if in this condition the accelerator pedal is released slightly and then depressed again, the automatic free-wheeling hubs will lock, but when they do, the vehicle may jerk forward sud­denly. Depress the accelerator pedal gradually, and let the clutch out slowly and smoothly. (3) The automatic free-wheeling hubs may emit un­usual noises when driving at "2H" in cold weather; if this happens, drive for a while in four-wheel drive to warm up the transfer and then shift to "2H". (4) When used while turning, it may not come free in some cases. If this happens, drive straight ahead and try again. .
