5. Install needle bearing (1) to rear extension.
CAUTION:
Take care with the direction of needle bearing. Refer to
AT- 2 5 3 , "
Locations of Adjusting Shims, Needle Bearings,
Thrust Washers and Snap Rings" .
Apply petroleum jelly to needle bearing.
6. Install seal rings in output shaft.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse seal rings.
Apply petroleum jelly to seal rings.
7. Install parking gear to output shaft.
8. Install output shaft to transmission case.
9. Install bearing race to output shaft.

10. Apply recommended sealant (Genuine Anaerobic Liquid Gasket
or equivalent. Refer to GI-45, "
Recommended Chemical Prod-
ucts and Sealants" .) to rear extension assembly as shown in
the figure.
CAUTION:
Completely remove all moisture, oil and old sealant, etc.
from transmission case and rear extension assembly
mounting surfaces.
11. Install rear extension assembly to transmission case. (With nee-
dle bearing.)
CAUTION:
Insert the tip of parking rod between parking pawl and park-
ing actuator support when assembling rear extension
assembly.
12. Tighten rear extension assembly mounting bolts to the specified
torque. Refer to AT- 2 2 7 , "
COMPONENTS" .
CAUTION:
Do not reuse self-sealing bolts.
13. Install rear engine mounting member. Refer to AT- 2 4 2 , "
Removal and Installation" .
14. Install control rod. Refer to AT- 2 0 5 , "
Control Rod Removal and Installation" .
15. Install rear propeller shaft. Refer to PR-6, "
Removal and Installation" .
CAUTION:
Do not impact or damage propeller shaft tube.
16. Install exhaust front tube and center muffler. Refer to EX-3, "
Removal and Installation" .
17. Install drain plug gasket and drain plug to oil pan, and then tighten drain plug to the specified torque. Refer
to AT- 2 1 5 , "
COMPONENTS" .
CAUTION:
Do not reuse drain plug gasket.
18. Pour ATF into A/T assembly. Refer to AT- 1 2 , "
Changing A/T Fluid" .

Rear Oil SealNCS00094
REMOVAL
1. Remove exhaust front tube and center muffler with power tool. Refer to EX-3, "Removal and Installation" .
2. Remove rear propeller shaft. Refer to PR-6, "
Removal and Installation" .
CAUTION:
Do not impact or damage propeller shaft tube.
3. Remove rear oil seal using a flat-bladed screwdriver.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to scratch rear extension assembly.
INSTALLATION
CAUTION:
After completing installation, check A/T fluid leakage and A/T fluid level. Refer to AT- 1 2 , "
Checking A/T
Fluid" .
1. As shown in the figure, use the drift to drive rear oil seal into rear
extension assembly until it is flush.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse rear oil seal.
Apply ATF to rear oil seal.
2. Install rear propeller shaft. Refer to PR-6, "
Removal and Installa-
tion" .
CAUTION:
Do not impact or damage propeller shaft tube.
3. Install exhaust front tube and center muffler. Refer to EX-3,
"Removal and Installation" .

COMPONENTS
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal.
2. Drain ATF through drain hole.
3. Remove exhaust front tube and center muffler with power tool. Refer to EX-3, "
Removal and Installation" .
4. Remove rear propeller shaft. Refer to PR-6, "
Removal and Installation" .
CAUTION:
Do not impact or damage propeller shaft tube.
5. Remove control rod. Refer to AT- 2 0 5 , "
Control Rod Removal and Installation" .
6. Remove exhaust mounting bracket. Refer to EX-3, "
Removal and Installation" .

7. Disconnect heated oxygen sensor 2 harness connectors (A).

8. Remove heated oxygen sensor 2 harness (B) from clips (1).
9. Remove bracket (2) from transmission assembly.
10. Remove clip (1), oil pan (2) and oil pan gasket.

Drain plug (3)
11. Check foreign materials in oil pan to help determine causes of
malfunction. If the ATF is very dark, smells burned, or contains
foreign particles, the frictional material (clutches, band) may
need replacement. A tacky film that will not wipe clean indicates
varnish build up. Varnish can cause valves, servo, and clutches
to stick and can inhibit pump pressure.
If frictional material is detected, perform A/T fluid cooler
cleaning. Refer to AT- 1 4 , "
A/T Fluid Cooler Cleaning".
12. Support transmission assembly with a transmission jack.
CAUTION:
When setting transmission jack, place wooden blocks to
prevent from damaging control valve with TCM and trans-
mission case.
13. Remove rear engine mounting member with power tool. Refer to AT- 2 4 2 , "
Removal and Installation" .
14. Remove tightening bolts for rear extension assembly and trans-
mission case.

15. Tap rear extension assembly with soft hammer.
16. Remove rear extension assembly from transmission case. (With
needle bearing.)
17. Disconnect revolution sensor connector.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage connector.
18. Straighten terminal clip to free revolution sensor harness.
19. Remove revolution sensor from transmission case.
CAUTION:
Do not subject it to impact by dropping or hitting it.
Do not disassemble.
Do not allow metal filings, etc. to get on the sensor's front
edge magnetic area.
Do not place in an area affected by magnetism.

INSTALLATION
CAUTION:
After completing installation, check A/T position, A/T fluid leakage and A/T fluid level. Refer to AT- 2 0 6 ,
"Checking of A/T Position" , AT- 1 2 , "Checking A/T Fluid" .
1. Install revolution sensor in transmission case, and then tighten a
revolution sensor mounting blot to the specified torque. Refer to
AT- 2 3 5 , "
COMPONENTS" .
CAUTION:
Do not subject it to impact by dropping or hitting it.
Do not disassemble.
Do not allow metal filings, etc. to get on the sensor's front
edge magnetic area.
Do not place in an area affected by magnetism.
2. Connect revolution sensor connector.
3. Securely fasten revolution sensor harness with clip.
4. Apply recommended sealant (Genuine Anaerobic Liquid Gasket
or equivalent. Refer to GI-45, "
Recommended Chemical Prod-
ucts and Sealants" .) to rear extension assembly as shown in
illustration.
CAUTION:
Completely remove all moisture, oil and old sealant, etc.
from transmission case and rear extension assembly
mounting surfaces.

5. Install rear extension assembly to transmission case. (With nee-

CAUTION:

assembly.
6. Tighten rear extension assembly mounting bolts to the specified
torque. Refer to AT- 2 3 5 , "

CAUTION:
Do not reuse self-sealing bolts.
7. Install rear engine mounting member. Refer to AT- 2 4 2 ,
"Removal and Installation" .
8. Install oil pan to transmission case.
a. Install oil pan gasket to oil pan.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse oil pan gasket.
Install it in the direction to align hole positions.
Completely remove all moisture, oil and old gasket, etc. from oil pan gasket mounting surface.
b. Install oil pan (2) (with oil pan gasket) and clips (1) to transmis-
sion case.

: Oil pan mounting bolt
CAUTION:
Install it so that drain plug (3) comes to the position as
shown in the figure.
Be careful not to pinch harness.
Completely remove all moisture, oil and old gasket, etc.
from oil pan mounting surface.
c. Tighten oil pan mounting bolts to the specified torque in numeri-
cal order shown in the figure after temporarily tightening them.
Refer to AT- 2 3 5 , "
COMPONENTS" .
CAUTION:
Do not reuse oil pan mounting bolts.
9. Install drain plug gasket and drain plug to oil pan, and then
tighten drain plug to the specified torque. Refer to AT- 2 3 5 ,
"COMPONENTS" .
CAUTION:
Do not reuse drain plug gasket.

61. Remove reverse brake piston from transmission case with com-
pressed air. Refer to AT- 2 5 2 , "
Oil Channel" .
CAUTION:
Care should be taken not to abruptly blow air. It makes pis-
tons incline, as the result, it becomes hard to disassemble
the pistons.
62. Remove D-rings from reverse brake piston.
63. Use a pin punch [4 mm (0.16 in) dia. commercial service tool] to
knock out retaining pin.
64. Remove manual shaft retaining pin using pair of nippers.
