TPMS malfunctions mayoccur foravariety of
reasons, including theinstallation ofreplace-
ment oralternate tiresorwheels onthe vehicle
that prevent theTPMS fromfunctioning properly.
Always checktheTPMS malfunction telltale
after replacing oneormore tiresorwheels on
your vehicle toensure thatthereplacement or
alternate tiresandwheels allowtheTPMS to
continue tofunction properly.

. The TPMS doesnotmonitor thetire
pressure ofthe spare tire.
. The TPMS willactivate onlywhen the
vehicle isdriven atspeeds above16MPH
(25 km/h) .Also, thissystem maynotdetect
a sudden dropintire pressure (forexample a
flat tire while driving) .
. The lowtirepressure warninglightdoes not
automatically turnoffwhen thetirepressure
is adjusted. Afterthetireisinflated tothe
recommended pressure,thevehicle mustbe
driven atspeeds above16MPH (25km/h)
to activate theTPMS andturn offthe low tire pressure
warninglight.Useatire pressure
gauge tocheck thetirepressure.
. The CHECK TIREPRES (pressure) warning
message isdisplayed inthe vehicle informa-
tion display whenthelow tirepressure
warning lightisilluminated andlowtire
pressure isdetected. TheCHECK TIRE
PRES warning message turnsoffwhen the
low tirepressure warninglightturns off.The
low tirepressure warninglightremains
illuminated untilthetires areinflated tothe
recommended COLDtirepressure. The
CHECK TIREPRES warning message is
displayed eachtimetheignition switchis
placed inthe ON position aslong asthe low
tire pressure warninglightremains illumi-
nated. ªCheck tirepressure warningmes-
sageº (P.2-7) .
. The CHECK TIREPRES warning message
is not displayed ifthe low tirepressure
warning lightilluminates toindicate aTPMS
malfunction.
. Tire pressure risesandfalls depending on
the heat caused bythe vehicle's operation
and theoutside temperature. Lowoutside
temperature canlower thetemperature of
the airinside thetire which cancause a
lower tireinflation pressure. Thismaycause
the low tirepressure warninglightto
illuminate. Ifthe warning lightilluminates inlow
ambient temperature, checkthetire
pressure forallfour tires.

WARNING
. Ifthe low tirepressure warninglight
illuminates whiledriving, avoidsud-
den steering maneuvers orabrupt
braking, reducevehicle speed,pull
off the road toasafe location and
stop thevehicle assoon aspossi-
ble. Driving withunder-inflated tires
may permanently damagethetires
and increase thelikelihood oftire
failure. Serious vehicledamage
could occurandmay lead toan
accident andcould result inserious
personal injury.Check thetire pres-
sure forallfour tires. Adjust thetire
pressure tothe recommended COLD
tire pressure shownonthe Tire and
Loading Information labeltoturn
the low tirepressure warninglight
OFF .If you have aflat tire, replace it
with aspare tireassoon aspossi-

. When aspare tireismounted ora
wheel isreplaced, theTPMS willnot
function andthelow tirepressure

mately 1minute. Thelight will
remain onafter 1minute. Contact
your NISSAN dealerassoon as
possible fortire replacement and/
or system resetting.
. Replacing tireswiththose notori-
ginally specified byNISSAN could
affect theproper operation ofthe
TPMS.
. Do not inject anytireliquid or
aerosol tiresealant intothetires,
as this may cause amalfunction of
the tire pressure sensors.
CAUTION
. The TPMS maynotfunction properly
when thewheels areequipped with
tire chains orthe wheels areburied
in snow.
. Do not place metalized filmorany
metal parts(antenna, etc.)on the windows.
Thismay cause poorre-
ception ofthe signals fromthetire
pressure sensors,andtheTPMS will
not function properly.
Some devices andtransmitters maytemporarily
interfere withtheoperation ofthe TPMS and
cause thelow tirepressure warninglightto
illuminate. Someexamples are:
. Facilities orelectric devices usingsimilar
radio frequencies arenear thevehicle.
. Ifatransmitter settosimilar frequencies is
being usedinor near thevehicle.
. Ifa computer (orsimilar equipment) oraDC/
AC converter isbeing usedinor near the
vehicle.

OFF-ROAD RECOVERY

surface, maintain controlofthe vehicle by
following theprocedure below.Please notethat

vehicle mustbedriven asappropriate basedon
the conditions ofthe vehicle, roadandtraffic.
1. Remain calmanddonot overreact.
2. Donot apply thebrakes.
3. Maintain afirm grip onthe steering wheel
with both hands andtrytohold astraight
course.
4. When appropriate, slowlyrelease theaccel-
erator pedaltogradually slowthevehicle. 5.
Ifthere isnothing inthe way,steer the
vehicle tofollow theroad while thevehicle
speed isreduced. Donot attempt todrive
the vehicle backontotheroad surface until
vehicle speedisreduced.
6. When itis safe todo so, gradually turnthe
steering wheeluntilboth tiresreturn tothe
road surface. Whenalltires areonthe road
surface, steerthevehicle tostay inthe
appropriate drivinglane.

If you decide thatitis not safe toreturn
the vehicle tothe road surface basedon
vehicle, roadortraffic conditions, gradu-
ally slow thevehicle toastop inasafe
place offthe road.
RAPID AIRPRESSURE LOSS

Rapid airpressure lossoraªblow-outº can
occur ifthe tire ispunctured orisdamaged due
to hitting acurb orpothole. Rapidairpressure
loss canalso becaused bydriving onunder-
inflated tires.
Rapid airpressure losscanaffect thehandling
and stability ofthe vehicle, especially athighway
speeds.
Help prevent rapidairpressure lossbymain-
taining thecorrect airpressure andvisually
inspect thetires forwear anddamage. See
ªWheels andtiresº (P.8-31) ofthis manual. If
atire rapidly losesairpressure orªblows-outº
while driving maintain controlofthe vehicle by
following theprocedure below.Please notethat
this procedure isonly ageneral guide.The
vehicle mustbedriven asappropriate basedon
the conditions ofthe vehicle, roadandtraffic.

chance oflosing control ofthe vehicle if
there isasudden lossoftire air

DRINKING ALCOHOL/DRUG SAND
DRIVING

Never driveunder theinfluence of
alcohol ordrugs. Alcohol inthe blood-
stream reduces coordination, delays
reaction timeandimpairs judgement.
Driving afterdrinking alcoholincreases
the likelihood ofbeing involved inan
accident injuringyourself andothers.
Additionally, ifyou areinjured inan
accident, alcoholcanincrease these-
verity ofthe injury.
NISSAN iscommitted tosafe driving. However,
you must choose nottodrive under theinfluence of

injured orkilled inalcohol-related accidents.
Although thelocal lawsvaryonwhat is
considered tobe legally intoxicated, thefact is
that alcohol affectsallpeople differently and
most people underestimate theeffects of
