can bedangerous. Theshoulder belt
will notbeagainst yourbody. Inan
accident, youcould bethrown intoit
and receive neckorother serious
injuries. You could alsoslide under
the lapbelt andreceive serious
internal injuries.
. For themost effective protection
when thevehicle isin motion, the
seat should beupright. Alwayssit well
back inthe seat withboth feet
on the floor andadjust theseat
properly. SeeªPrecautions onseat
belt usageº (P.1-10) .
. After adjustment, gentlyrockinthe
seat tomake sureitis securely
locked.
. Do not leave children unattended
inside thevehicle. Theycould un-
knowingly activateswitches orcon-
trols. Unattended childrencould
become involved inserious acci-
dents. .
The seatback shouldnotbereclined
any more thanneeded forcomfort.
Seat belts aremost effective when
the passenger sitswell back and
straight upinthe seat. Ifthe seat-
back isreclined, therisk ofsliding
under thelapbelt andbeing injured
is increased.
CAUTION
When adjusting theseat positions, be
sure nottocontact anymoving partsto
avoid possible injuriesand/ordamage.

The reclining featureallowsadjustment ofthe
seatback foroccupants ofdifferent sizesfor
added comfort andtohelp obtain proper seat
belt fit.(See ªPrecautions onseat beltusageº
(P .1-10) .)Also, theseatback canbereclined to
allow occupants torest when thevehicle is
stopped andthetransmission isin the P(Park)
position orN(Neutral) positionwiththeparking
brake fullyapplied.
NO TE:
. Depending onthe passenger's seat
sliding position whenthepassenger
seat isunoccupied whiledriving, a
noise maybeheard asthe side part
of the passenger's seatcontacts the
seat belttongue. Inthis case, move the
seat tothe rearmost positiontoavoid
interference.
. Ifyou arehaving difficulty turningthe
adjusting dial,park thevehicle and
then open thedoor orget out ofthe
vehicle tooperate the
dial.

CAUTION
When folding orreturning theseatback -
(s) tothe upright position, toavoid
injury toyourself andothers:
. Make surethattheseat path isclear
before moving theseat.
WARNING
. Do not fold down therear seats
when occupants areinthe rear seat
area orany objects areonthe rear
seats.
. Never allowanyone toride inthe
cargo areaoron the rear seats
when theyareinthe fold-down
position. Useofthese areas by
passengers withoutproperre-
straints couldresult inserious injury
in an accident orsudden stop.
. Properly secureallcargo withropes
or straps tohelp prevent itfrom
sliding orshifting. Donot place
cargo higher thantheseatbacks. In
a sudden stoporcollision, unse-
cured cargo couldcause personal injury.
. When returning theseatbacks tothe
upright position, becertain theyare
completely securedinthe latched
position. Ifthey arenot completely
secured, passengers maybeinjured
in an accident orsudden stop.

Head restraint/headrest supplement
the other vehicle safetysystems. They
may provide additional protection
against injuryincertain rearendcolli-
sions. Adjustable headrestraints/head-
rests must beadjusted properly, as
specified inthis section. Checkthe
adjustment aftersomeone elseuses
the seat. Donot attach anything tothe
head restraint/headrest stalksorre-
move thehead restraint/headrest. Do
not use theseat ifthe head restraint/
headrest hasbeen removed. Ifthe head
restraint/headrest wasremoved, rein-
stall andproperly adjustthehead
restraint/headrest beforeanoccupant
uses theseating position. Failureto
follow theseinstructions canreduce the
effectiveness ofthe head restraint/
headrest. Thismayincrease therisk of
serious injuryordeath inacollision.

a secure placesoitis not loose inthe
vehicle.
5. Reinstall andproperly adjustthehead
restraint/headrest beforeanoccupant uses
the seating
position.

all times. Children shouldbeprop-
erly restrained inthe rear seat and,
if appropriate, inachild restraint.
. The seat beltshould beproperly
adjusted toasnug fit.Failure todo
so may reduce theeffectiveness of
the entire restraint systemandin-
crease thechance orseverity of
injury inan accident. Seriousinjury
or death canoccur ifthe seat beltis
not worn properly.
. Always routetheshoulder beltover
your shoulder andacross your
chest. Neverputthebelt behind
your back, under yourarmoracross
your neck. Thebelt should beaway
from yourfaceandneck, butnot
falling offyour shoulder.
. Position thelapbelt aslow and
snug aspossible AROUND THE
HIPS, NOTTHE WAIST .A lap belt
worn toohigh could increase the
risk ofinternal injuriesinan acci-
dent. .
Be sure theseat belttongue is
securely fastened tothe proper
buckle.
. Donot wear theseat beltinside out
or twisted. Doingsomay reduce its
effectiveness.
. Do not allow morethanoneperson
to use thesame seatbelt.
. Never carrymore people inthe
vehicle thanthere areseat belts.
. Ifthe seat beltwarning lightglows
continuously whiletheignition is
turned ONwith alldoors closed and
all seat belts fastened, itmay in-
dicate amalfunction inthe system.
Have thesystem checked bya
NISSAN dealer.
. No changes shouldbemade tothe
seat beltsystem. Forexample, do
not modify theseat belt, addmate-
rial, orinstall devices thatmay
change theseat beltrouting or
tension. Doingsomay affect the
operation ofthe seat beltsystem.
Modifying ortampering withthe
seat beltsystem mayresult in
serious personal injury.

belt when thevehicle slowsdownrapidly or
during certain impacts.
The Automatic LockingRetractor (ALR)mode
(child restraint mode)lockstheseat beltfor
child restraint installation.
When ALRmode isactivated theseat belt
cannot beextended againuntiltheseat belt
tongue isdetached fromthebuckle andfully
retracted. Theseat beltreturns tothe ELR mode
after theseat beltfully retracts. Foradditional
information, seeªChild restraintsº (P.1-18) .
The ALR mode should beused onlyfor
child restraint installation. Duringnormal
seat beltusebyan occupant, theALR
mode should notbeactivated. Ifitis
activated, itmay cause uncomfortable seat
belt tension.
WARNING
When fastening theseat belts, be
certain thatseatbacks arecompletely
secured inthe latched position. Ifthey
are not completely secured,passengers
may beinjured inan accident orsudden
stop.

not possible toproperly fitthe lap-shoulder belt
and fasten it,an extender thatiscompatible with
the installed seatbelts isavailable thatcanbe
purchased. Theextender addsapproximately 8
in (200 mm)oflength andmay beused foreither
the driver orfront passenger seatingposition.

purchasing anextender ifan extender isrequired.
WARNING
. Only NISSAN seatbeltextenders,
made bythe same company which
made theoriginal equipment seat
belts, should beused withNISSAN
seat belts.
. Adults andchildren whocanuse the
standard seatbeltshould notuse an
extender. Suchunnecessary use
could result inserious personal
injury inthe event ofan accident.
. Never useseat beltextenders to
install childrestraints. Ifthe child
restraint isnot secured properly, the
child could beseriously injuredina
collision orasudden stop.

mild soap solution orany solution recom-
mended forcleaning upholstery orcarpets.
Then wipewithacloth andallow theseat
belts todry inthe shade. Donot allow the

dry .
