CAUTION

before moving theseat.

passengers withoutproperre-

. Properly secureallcargo withropes
or straps tohelp prevent itfrom
sliding orshifting. Donot place
cargo higher thantheseatbacks. In
a sudden stoporcollision, unse-
cured cargo couldcause personal injury.
. When returning theseatbacks tothe
upright position, becertain theyare
completely securedinthe latched
position. Ifthey arenot completely
secured, passengers maybeinjured
in an accident orsudden stop.

Head restraint/headrest supplement
the other vehicle safetysystems. They
may provide additional protection
against injuryincertain rearendcolli-
sions. Adjustable headrestraints/head-
rests must beadjusted properly, as
specified inthis section. Checkthe
adjustment aftersomeone elseuses
the seat. Donot attach anything tothe
head restraint/headrest stalksorre-
move thehead restraint/headrest. Do
not use theseat ifthe head restraint/
headrest hasbeen removed. Ifthe head
restraint/headrest wasremoved, rein-
stall andproperly adjustthehead
restraint/headrest beforeanoccupant
uses theseating position. Failureto
follow theseinstructions canreduce the
effectiveness ofthe head restraint/
headrest. Thismayincrease therisk of
serious injuryordeath inacollision.

removed, ensurethatitis reinstalled and
locked inplace before ridinginthat desig-
nated seating position.

1. Pull thehead restraint/headrest uptothe
highest position.
2. Push andhold thelock knob.
3. Remove thehead restraint/headrest from
the seat.
4. Store thehead restraint/headrest properlyin
a secure placesoitis not loose inthe
vehicle.
5. Reinstall andproperly adjustthehead
restraint/headrest beforeanoccupant uses
the seating
position.

compatible withLATCH. This information may

webbing-mounted attachments,removeany
additional slackfromtheanchor attach-
ments. Pressdownward andrearward firmly
in the center ofthe child restraint withyour
hand tocompress thevehicle seatcushion
and seatback whiletightening thewebbing
of the anchor
attachments.

place. Ifthe restraint isnot secure, tighten
the seat beltasnecessary ,or put the
restraint inanother seatandtestitagain.

installing achild restraint.
Do not use thelower anchors ifthe combined
weight ofthe child andthechild restraint
exceeds 65lbs (29.5 kg).If the combined
weight ofthe child andthechild restraint is
greater than65lbs (29.5 kg),use thevehicle's
seat belt(not thelower anchors) toinstall the
child restraint. Besure tofollow thechild
restraint manufacturer's instructionsforinstalla-
tion.
Follow thesestepstoinstall aforward-facing
child restraint usingtheLATCH system:
1. Position thechild restraint onthe seat.
Always followthechild restraint manufac-
turer's
instructions.

2. Secure thechild restraint anchorattach-
ments tothe LATCH lower anchors. Check
to make suretheLATCH attachment is
properly attached tothe lower anchors.
If the child restraint isequipped withatop
tether strap,routethetop tether strapand
secure thetether straptothe tether anchor
point. SeeªInstalling toptether strapº (P.1-
30) .Do not install childrestraints that
require theuse ofatop tether strapin
seating positions thatdonot have atop
tether
anchor.

3. The back ofthe child restraint shouldbe
secured againstthevehicle seatback.
If necessary ,adjust orremove thehead
restraint toobtain thecorrect childrestraint
fit. Ifthe head restraint isremoved, storeitin
a secure place.Besure toreinstall the
head restraint whenthechild restraint
is removed. SeeªHead restraints/head-
restsº (P.1-5) forhead restraint adjustment
information.
If the seating position doesnothave ahead
restraint anditis interfering withtheproper
child restraint fit,try another seatingposition
or adifferent childrestraint.

Installing toptether strap

WARNING
Child restraint anchorages arede-
signed towithstand onlythose loads
imposed bycorrectly fittedchildre-
straints. Undernocircumstances are
they tobe used toattach adultseat
belts, orother items orequipment to
the vehicle. Doingsocould damage the
child restraint anchorages. Thechild
restraint willnotbeproperly installed
using thedamaged anchorage, anda
child could beseriously injuredorkilled in
acollision.
The child restraint toptether strapmustbeused
when installing thechild restraint withthe
LA TCH lower anchor attachments.
First, secure thechild restraint withtheLATCH
lower anchors (rearoutboard seatpositions
only) .
1. Remove thehead restraint andstore itin a
secure place.Besure toreinstall thehead
restraint whenthechild restraint isremoved
(rear outboard seatpositions) .
See ªHead restraints/headrestsº (P.1-5) for
head restraint adjustment, removaland
installation information.
P osition thetop tether strapoverthetop of
the seatback.
2. Secure thetop tether straptothe tether
anchor pointonthe back ofthe seatback
behind thechild restraint.
3. Refer tothe appropriate childrestraint
installation procedurestepsinthis section
before tightening thetether strap.
If you have anyquestions wheninstalling a
top tether strap,consult yourNISSAN
dealer fordetails.
FORW ARD-FACING CHILDRE-
STRAINT INSTALLA TION USING THE
SEA TBEL TS

The three-point seatbeltwith Auto-
matic Locking Retractor (ALR)mustbe
used when installing achild restraint.
Failure touse theALR mode willresult
in the child restraint notbeing properly
secured. Therestraint couldtipover or
be loose andcause injurytoachild ina
sudden stoporcollision. Also,itcan
change theoperation ofthe front
