CAUTION:
lWhen wiping away A/T fluid level gauge, always use lint-free paper, not a cloth one.
lTo check A/T fluid level, insert A/T fluid level gauge until
the cap contacts the end of A/T fluid charging pipe, with
A/T fluid level gauge reversed from the normal attach-
ment conditions as shown.
8. Check A/T fluid condition.
lIf ATF is very dark or smells burned, check operation of A/T.
Flush cooling system after repair of A/T.
lIf A/T fluid contains frictional material (clutches, bands, etc.),
replace radiator and flush cooler line using cleaning solvent
and compressed air after repair of A/T. Refer toCO-11,
"RADIATOR".
9. Install the removed A/T fluid level gauge into A/T fluid charging
pipe.
10. Tighten level gauge bolt to the specified torque. Refer toAT-247,
"COMPONENTS".

CONTROL VALVE WITH TCM REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal.
2. Remove under cover.
3. Drain ATF through drain hole.
4. Remove control cable from A/T assembly. Refer toAT- 2 1 0 , "
COMPONENTS".
5. Disconnect A/T assembly harness connector.
6. Remove snap ring from A/T assembly harness connector.
7. Push A/T assembly harness connector.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage connector.
8. Remove oil pan and oil pan gasket.
9. Check foreign materials in oil pan to help determine cause of
malfunction. If the ATF is very dark, smell burned or contains
foreign particles, friction material (clutches, band) may need
replacement. A tacky film that will not wipe clean indicates var-
nish build up. Varnish can cause valves, servo, and clutches to
stick and can inhibit pump pressure.
lIf friction material is detected, replace radiator after repair
of A/T. Refer toCO-11, "
RADIATOR".

A/T FLUID TEMPERATURE SENSOR 2 REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
Removal
1. Disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal.
2. Remove under cover.
3. Drain ATF through drain hole.
4. Remove oil pan and oil pan gasket.
5. Check foreign materials in oil pan to help determine cause of
malfunction. If the ATF is very dark, smell burned or contains
foreign particles, friction material (clutches, band) may need
replacement. A tacky film that will not wipe clean indicates var-
nish build up. Varnish can cause valves, servo, and clutches to
stick and can inhibit pump pressure.
lIf friction material is detected, replace radiator after repair
of A/T. Refer toCO-11, "

6. Disconnect A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 connector.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage connector.
7. Straighten terminal clip to free A/T fluid temperature sensor 2
harness.

5. Remove oil pan and oil pan gasket.

7. Support A/T assembly using a transmission jack.
CAUTION:
When setting transmission jack, place wooden blocks to
prevent from damaging control valve with TCM and trans-
mission case.
8. Remove A/T cross member. Refer toAT- 2 4 7 , "
Removal and Installation".
9. Remove tightening bolts for rear extension assembly and trans-
mission case.

10. Tap rear extension assembly with a soft hammer.

1. Remove front bumper. Refer toEI-15, "Removal and Installation".
2. Remove A/T fluid cooler hose (upper) and A/T fluid cooler hose
(lower) from A/T fluid cooler.

3. Pull A/T fluid cooler (1) toward the front of the vehicle to release
from radiator core support lower (2), and then slide A/T fluid
cooler (1) downward to remove radiator (3).
INSTALLATION
CAUTION:
After completing installation, check for A/T fluid leakage and fluid level. Refer toAT-12, "
Checking A/T
Fluid".
Note the following, and install in the reverse order of removal.
*: Refer to the illustrations for the specific position each hose clamp tab.
lThe illustrations indicate the view from the hose ends.
lWhen installing hose clamps center line of each clamp tab
should be positioned as shown in the figure.

30. Remove magnets from oil pan.
31. Disconnect A/T fluid temperature sensor 2 connector.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage connector.
32. Straighten terminal clips to free terminal cord assembly and A/T
fluid temperature sensor 2 harness.

COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
Ambient Sensor
Ambient sensor is attached to the radiator core support (left side). It
detects ambient temperature and converts it into a resistance value
which is then input into the front air control.
AMBIENT TEMPERATURE INPUT PROCESS
The front air control includes a processing circuit for ambient sensor input. However, when the temperature
detected by ambient sensor increases quickly, the processing circuit retards the front air control function. It
only allows the front air control to recognize an ambient temperature increase of 0.33°C(0.6°F) per 100 sec-
onds.
This prevents constant adjustments due to momentary conditions, such as stopping after high speed driving.
Although the actual ambient temperature has not changed, the temperature detected by ambient sensor will
increase. This is because the heat from the engine compartment can radiate to the front grille area, location of
ambient sensor .
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE FOR AMBIENT SENSOR
SYMPTOM: Ambient sensor circuit is open or shorted. (40 or 41 is
indicated on front air control as a result of conducting the front air
control self-diagnosis)
1.CHECK VOLTAGE BETWEEN AMBIENT SENSOR AND GROUND
1. Disconnect ambient sensor connector.
2. Turn ignition switch ON.
3. Check voltage between ambient sensor harness connector E48
terminal 4 and ground.
OK or NG
OK >> GO TO 2.
NG >> GO TO 4.

lReplace the O-ring of the low-pressure flexible A/C hose with a new one, then apply compressor
oil to it for installation.
lAfter charging refrigerant, check for leaks.
Removal and Installation for Low-pressure A/C PipeEJS006CS
REMOVAL
1. Discharge the refrigerant. Refer toATC-138, "HFC-134a (R-134a) Service Procedure".
2. Disconnect the heater pump connector.
3. Remove the heater pump from the bracket and reposition out of the way. Do not disconnect the heater
hoses from the heater pump.
4. Remove the low-pressure A/C pipe. Refer toATC-140, "
Components".
CAUTION:
Cap or wrap the joint of the pipe with suitable material such as vinyl tape to avoid the entry of air.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

Components".
CAUTION:
lReplace the O-ring of the low-pressure A/C pipe with a new one, then apply compressor oil to it for
installation.
lAfter charging refrigerant, check for leaks.
Removal and Installation for Refrigerant Pressure SensorEJS006CV
REMOVAL
1. Discharge the refrigerant. Refer toATC-138, "HFC-134a (R-134a) Service Procedure".
2. Disconnect the refrigerant pressure sensor harness connector
and remove the refrigerant pressure sensor from the condenser.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the condenser fins.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
Refer toATC-140, "
Components".
CAUTION:
lBe careful not to damage the condenser fins.
lApply compressor oil to the O-ring of the refrigerant pressure sensor for installation.
lAfter charging refrigerant, check for leaks.

REMOVAL
1. Discharge the refrigerant. Refer toATC-138, "HFC-134a (R-134a) Service Procedure".
2. Remove the radiator. Refer toCO-11, "
RADIATOR".
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the core surface of the condenser and the radiator.
3. Disconnect the high-pressure flexible A/C hose and the high-pressure A/C pipe from the condenser.
CAUTION:
Cap or wrap the joint of the pipes with suitable material such as vinyl tape to avoid the entry of air.
