HOW TO SELECT PISTON AND BEARING
1. "Main Bearing Selection Table" rows correspond to bearing
housing grade on rear left side of cylinder block.
• If there is a corrected stamp ma rk on the cylinder block, use it
as a correct reference.
2. Apply journal diameter grade (A) stamped on crankshaft front side to column in "Main Bearing Selection Table".
3. Find value at crossing of row and column in "Main Bearing Selection Table". CAUTION:
• There are two main bearing selecti on tables. One is for odd-numbered journals (1, 3, and 5) and
the other is for even-numbered journals (2 and 4) . Make certain to use the appropriate table. This
is due to differences in the specified clearances.
4. Apply the symbol obtained to "Main Bearing Grade Table" to select. NOTE:
• Service parts are available as a set of both upper and lower.
When Cylinder Block and Crankshaft are Reused:
1. Measure inner diameter of cylinder block main bear ing housing and outer diameter of crankshaft journal.
2. Apply measurement in above step 1 to the "Main Bearing Selection Table".
3. Follow steps 3 and 4 in "When New Cylinder Block and Crankshaft are Used".

Use Undersize Bearing Usage Guide
• Use undersize (U.S.) bearing when oil clearance with standar d size main bearing is not within specification.
• When using undersize (U.S.) bearing, measure the bear ing inner diameter with the bearing installed and
grind journal until oil clearance falls within specification.

PRECAUTIONS
• When tightening nuts and bolts, as a basic rule, equally tighten in several different steps starting with the
ones in center, then ones on inside and outside diagonally in this order. If the order of tightening is specified,
do exactly as specified.
• Replace with new gasket, packing, oil seal or O-ring.
• Thoroughly wash, clean, and air-blow each part. Carefully check oil or coolant passages for any restriction and blockage.
• Avoid damaging sliding or mating surfaces. Completely remove foreign materials such as cloth lint or dust. Before assembly, oil sliding surfaces well.
• Release air within route after draining coolant.
• Before starting engine, apply fuel pressure to fuel li nes with turning ignition switch ON (with engine stopped).
Then make sure that there are no leaks at fuel line connections.
• After repairing, start engine and increase engine speed to check coolant, fuel, oil, and exhaust systems for leakage.
Parts Requiring Angular TighteningINFOID:0000000009460520
• Use an angle wrench for the final tightening of the following engine parts:
- Cylinder head bolts
- Main bearing cap bolts
- Connecting rod cap nuts
- Crankshaft pulley bolt (No angle wrench is required as the bolt flange is provided with notches for angular
tightening)
• Do not use a torque value for final tightening.
• The torque value for these parts are for a preliminary step.
• Ensure thread and seat surfaces are clean and coated with engine oil.
Precaution for Liquid GasketINFOID:0000000009460521
REMOVAL OF LIQUID GASKET
• After removing the bolts and nuts, separate the mating surface and remove the liquid gasket using Tool (A).
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces.
• In areas where the cutter is difficult to use, use a plastic hammer to lightly tap (1) the cutter where the liquid gasket is applied. Use a
plastic hammer to slide (2) the cutter by tapping on the side.
CAUTION:
Do not damage the mating surfaces.
LIQUID GASKET APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Using a scraper, remove the old liquid gasket adhering to the gasket application surface and the mating surface.
• Remove the liquid gasket completely from the groove of the
gasket application surface, mounting bolts, and bolt holes.
2. Thoroughly clean the gasket application surface and the mating surface and remove adhering moisture, grease and foreign
materials.
3. Attach the liquid gasket tube to the tube presser. Use Genuine Silicone RTV Seal ant or equivalent. Refer to
GI-21, "Recommended Chemi cal Products and Sealants"
.
