SEAT BELTS
Additional seat belt warnings
Version with monochrome display
A or C
1. Multifunction display.
2. Warning light indicating that a
passenger’s seat belt is not fas-
tened or has been unfastened.
3. Front passenger’s seat belt not
fastened warning.
4. Rear right passenger’s seat belt
unfastened warning.
5. Rear left passenger’s seat belt
unfastened warning.
Fastening
Slide your arm along the door
and take hold of the seat belt at
the base. This action must be
carried out with the door closed
t o a v o i d a n y r i s k o f t r a p p i n g .
Insert the buckle in the stalk.
Check that the seat belt is fas-
tened correctly by pulling the
strap.
Unfastening
Press the red button on the
stalk.
Front seat belts
S a f e t y i n t h e e v e n t o f a f r o n t a l i m p a c t
h a s b e e n i m p r o v e d b y t h e i n t r o d u c -
tion of pre-tensioning and force-li-
miting front seat belts. Depending
on the seriousness of the impact, the
pre-tensioning system instantly tight-
e n s t h e s e a t b e l t s fi r m l y a g a i n s t t h e
body of the occupant.
The pre-tensioning seat belts are
armed when the ignition is on.
T h e f o r c e - l i m i t i n g d e v i c e r e d u c e s t h e
pressure of the seat belt against the
o c c u p a n t ’ s b o d y i n t h e e v e n t o f a n
accident.

Seat belt unfastened warning
I f t h e d r i v e r a n d / o r o n e
of the passengers has
unfastened his seat
belt, the corresponding
warning light comes on
when the engine is running, then, at a
s p e e d a b o v e 1 2 m p h ( 2 0 k m / h ) , t h i s
is accompanied by an audible signal
t h e v o l u m e o f w h i c h i n c r e a s e s ( f o r a p -
p r o x i m a t e l y t w o m i n u t e s ) a n d a m e s -
sage on the multifunction display. Rear seat belts
T h e r e a r s e a t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h t w o
three-point inertia reel seat belts.
The retaining of the rear seat belt
buckle by the sliding block makes
folding down or complete folding of
the seats easier.
Fastening
Pull the strap, then insert the
buckle in the stalk.
Check that the seat belt is
fastened correctly by pulling the
strap.
Unfastening
Press the red button on the
stalk.
Version with colour display
I f t h e d r i v e r a n d / o r o n e o f t h e p a s -
s e n g e r s h a s n o t f a s t e n e d ( o r h a s
u n f a s t e n e d ) h i s s e a t b e l t , a m e s s a g e
appears on the multifunction display.

AIR BAGS
T h e a i r b a g s h a v e b e e n d e s i g n e d t o
m a x i m i s e t h e s a f e t y o f t h e o c c u p a n t s
( w i t h t h e e x c e p t i o n o f t h e r e a r c e n t r e
p a s s e n g e r ) i n t h e e v e n t o f s e r i o u s
collisions; they work in conjunction
with the force limiting seat belts.
I n t h e e v e n t o f a s e r i o u s c o l l i s i o n , t h e
electronic detectors record and ana-
lyse the front and side impacts suf-
fered in the impact detection zones
( s e e d i a g r a m ) : i n t h e e v e n t o f a s e -
r i o u s i m p a c t , t h e a i r b a g s i n fl a t e i n -
stantly and protect the occupants of
t h e v e h i c l e ( w i t h t h e e x c e p t i o n o f t h e
r e a r c e n t r e p a s s e n g e r ) . Immediately after the impact, the air
b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y , s o t h a t t h e y d o
n o t h i n d e r t h e v i s i b i l i t y o f t h e o c c u -
p a n t s n o r t h e i r p o s s i b l e e x i t f r o m t h e
v e h i c l e .
The air bags will not be deployed in
collisions which are not serious, rear
i m p a c t s o r i n c e r t a i n r o l l - o v e r c o n -
d i t i o n s . T h e s e a t b e l t i s s u f fi c i e n t t o
p r o v i d e m a x i m u m p r o t e c t i o n i n t h e s e
situations.
Air bags only operate when the
ignition is switched on.
This equipment will only operate once.
I f a s e c o n d i m p a c t o c c u r s ( d u r i n g t h e
s a m e o r a s u b s e q u e n t a c c i d e n t ) , t h e
air bag will not operate.
Note: the triggering of an air
bag or air bags is accompa-
nied by a slight discharge
of harmless smoke and a
n o i s e , d u e t o t h e a c t i v a t i o n o f t h e
pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated in
the system.
This gas may cause slight irritation.
The noise of the detonation may
result in a slight loss of hearing for a
short time.
Impact detection zones
A. Front impact zone.
B. Side impact zone.
FRONT AIR BAGS
These are folded in the centre of the
s t e e r i n g w h e e l f o r t h e d r i v e r a n d i n
the fascia for the front passenger.
They are deployed simultaneously,
e x c e p t i n c a s e s w h e r e t h e a i r b a g i s
d i s a r m e d , i n t h e e v e n t o f a s e r i o u s
front impact applied in the impact
zone A in the longitudinal centreline,
on a horizontal plane and from the
f r o n t t o w a r d s t h e r e a r o f t h e v e h i c l e .
T h e a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e f r o n t
o c c u p a n t o f t h e v e h i c l e a n d t h e f a s -
c i a t o c u s h i o n h i s f o r w a r d m o v e m e n t .
In this way, the air bags limit the risk
of injury to the head and chest.
Front air bag malfunction
If this warning light comes
on, accompanied by an au-
dible signal and a message
on the multifunction display,
c o n t a c t a P E U G E O T d e a l e r t o h a v e
the system checked. The air bags
may no longer be triggered in the
e v e n t o f a s e r i o u s i m p a c t .

Disarming the passenger air
bag
To ensure the safety of your child,
it is essential to disarm the pas-
senger air bag when you install
a "rear-facing" child seat on the
front passenger seat. Otherwise,
the child would risk being seri-
ously injured or killed if the air bag
w e r e t o i n fl a t e .
With the ignition switched off,
insert the key into the passenger
air bag disarming switch 1 , turn
it to the "OFF" position, then
r e m o v e t h e k e y k e e p i n g t h e s l o t
in this position.
In the "OFF" position, the passen-
ger air bag will not be triggered in the
e v e n t o f a n i m p a c t .
A s s o o n a s t h e c h i l d s e a t i s r e m o v e d ,
turn the air bag slot to the "ON" po-
s i t i o n t o r e - a c t i v a t e t h e a i r b a g a n d
thus ensure the safety of your pas-
s e n g e r i n t h e e v e n t o f a n i m p a c t . W i t h t h e i g n i t i o n o n ( 2 n d
n o t c h ) , i l l u m i n a t i o n o f t h i s
warning light accompa-
nied by a message on the
multifunction display, indicates that
the passenger air bag is disarmed
( s w i t c h i n t h e "OFF" p o s i t i o n ) . T h e
warning light on the instrument panel
remains on until the passenger air
b a g i s r e a c t i v a t e d .
I n t h e e v e n t o f p e r m a n e n t
lighting of the two air bag
warning lights, do not install
a rear-facing child seat.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
Steering column air bag
The steering column air bag protects
t h e d r i v e r ’ s k n e e s i n t h e e v e n t o f a
serious front impact.
It is incorporated in the fascia below
the steering column.
SIDE AIR BAGS AND CURTAIN AIR BAGS
The side air bags are incorporated
into the front seat backs on the door
side.
The triggering of these air bags re-
quires a serious side impact applied
in the side impact zone B , perpen-
dicular to the longitudinal centreline
o f t h e v e h i c l e , o n a h o r i z o n t a l p l a n e
a n d f r o m t h e o u t s i d e o f t h e v e h i c l e
towards the inside. The side air bag
i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e f r o n t o c c u p a n t
o f t h e v e h i c l e a n d t h e d o o r t r i m p a d .
It therefore limits the risk of injury to
the chest.
The rear side air bags afford the rear
passengers the same protection
which the front side air bags offer the
front passengers.
The curtain air bags are incorporated
in the headlining.
T h e c u r t a i n a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n
the front or rear occupant and the
windows. It therefore limits the risk of
h e a d i n j u r i e s . I n t h e e v e n t o f a m i n o r
i m p a c t o r b u m p o n t h e s i d e o f t h e v e -
h i c l e o r i f t h e v e h i c l e r o l l s o v e r , t h e
air bag may not be triggered. The air
b a g i s n o t t r i g g e r e d i n t h e e v e n t o f a
front or rear collision.
Disarming check Activation
It is deployed at the same time as the
front air bags.

If this warning light comes on,
accompanied by a message

Air bags malfunction
Side air bags
O n l y p u t a p p r o v e d c o v e r s o n t h e
seats, these will not hamper the in-
fl a t i o n o f t h e s i d e a i r b a g s . C o n s u l t a
PEUGEOT dealer.
D o n o t fi x o r g l u e a n y t h i n g t o t h e f r o n t
seat backs. This could cause injury
to the chest or arms when the side
a i r b a g i n fl a t e s .
Do not sit with the upper part of the
body any nearer to the door than
necessary.
Steering column air bag
Do not sit with your knees any nearer
to the steering wheel than neces-
sary. Curtain air bags
D o n o t fi x o r g l u e a n y t h i n g t o t h e p i l -
lars or the roof. This could cause in-
jury to the head when the curtain air
b a g i n fl a t e s .
The triggering of an air bag or air
bags is accompanied by a slight
emission of harmless smoke and
a n o i s e d u e t o t h e a c t i v a t i o n o f t h e
pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated in
the system. This smoke is not harm-
f u l b u t s e n s i t i v e i n d i v i d u a l s m a y e x -
perience some irritation.
The detonation noise may result in
a slight loss of hearing for a short
time.
E v e n i f a l l o f t h e p r e c a u t i o n s m e n -
t i o n e d a r e o b s e r v e d , i n j u r y o r s l i g h t

t h e a i r b a g w i l l n o t i n fl a t e .
Front air bags
D o n o t d r i v e h o l d i n g t h e s t e e r i n g
wheel by its spokes or resting your
hands on the centre part of the
wheel.
Passengers must not place their feet
on the fascia.
Smoke as little as possible; deploy-
ment of the air bags can cause burns
or the risk of injury from a cigarette
or pipe.
N e v e r r e m o v e o r p i e r c e t h e s t e e r i n g
w h e e l o r h i t i t v i o l e n t l y .
For the front, steering column,
side and curtain air bags to be ful-
ly effective, observe the following
safety rules:
Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt.
Sit in a normal upright position.
D o n o t l e a v e a n y t h i n g b e t w e e n t h e
o c c u p a n t s a n d t h e a i r b a g s ( c h i l d ,
a n i m a l , o b j e c t . . . ) . T h i s c o u l d h a m p e r
the operation of the air bags or injure
the occupants.
All work on the air bag systems is
strictly prohibited unless it is car-
r i e d o u t b y q u a l i fi e d p e r s o n n e l o f t h e
PEUGEOT network.
A f t e r a n a c c i d e n t o r i f t h e v e h i c l e h a s
b e e n s t o l e n o r b r o k e n i n t o , h a v e t h e
air bag systems checked.

Disarming the passenger air
bag
To ensure the safety of your child,
it is essential to disarm the pas-
senger air bag when you install
a "rear-facing" child seat on the
front passenger seat. Otherwise,
the child would risk being seri-
ously injured or killed if the air bag
w e r e t o i n fl a t e .
With the ignition switched off,
insert the key into the passenger
air bag disarming switch 1 , turn
it to the "OFF" position, then
r e m o v e t h e k e y k e e p i n g t h e s l o t
in this position.
In the "OFF" position, the passen-
ger air bag will not be triggered in the
e v e n t o f a n i m p a c t .
A s s o o n a s t h e c h i l d s e a t i s r e m o v e d ,
turn the air bag slot to the "ON" po-
s i t i o n t o r e - a c t i v a t e t h e a i r b a g a n d
thus ensure the safety of your pas-
s e n g e r i n t h e e v e n t o f a n i m p a c t . W i t h t h e i g n i t i o n o n ( 2 n d
n o t c h ) , i l l u m i n a t i o n o f t h i s
warning light accompa-
nied by a message on the
multifunction display, indicates that
the passenger air bag is disarmed
( s w i t c h i n t h e "OFF" p o s i t i o n ) . T h e
warning light on the instrument panel
remains on until the passenger air
b a g i s r e a c t i v a t e d .
I n t h e e v e n t o f p e r m a n e n t
lighting of the two air bag
warning lights, do not install
a rear-facing child seat.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
Steering column air bag
The steering column air bag protects
t h e d r i v e r ’ s k n e e s i n t h e e v e n t o f a
serious front impact.
It is incorporated in the fascia below
the steering column.
SIDE AIR BAGS AND CURTAIN AIR BAGS
The side air bags are incorporated
into the front seat backs on the door
side.
The triggering of these air bags re-
quires a serious side impact applied
in the side impact zone B , perpen-
dicular to the longitudinal centreline
o f t h e v e h i c l e , o n a h o r i z o n t a l p l a n e
a n d f r o m t h e o u t s i d e o f t h e v e h i c l e
towards the inside. The side air bag
i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e f r o n t o c c u p a n t
o f t h e v e h i c l e a n d t h e d o o r t r i m p a d .
It therefore limits the risk of injury to
the chest.
The rear side air bags afford the rear
passengers the same protection
which the front side air bags offer the
front passengers.
The curtain air bags are incorporated
in the headlining.
T h e c u r t a i n a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n
the front or rear occupant and the
windows. It therefore limits the risk of
h e a d i n j u r i e s . I n t h e e v e n t o f a m i n o r
i m p a c t o r b u m p o n t h e s i d e o f t h e v e -
h i c l e o r i f t h e v e h i c l e r o l l s o v e r , t h e
air bag may not be triggered. The air
b a g i s n o t t r i g g e r e d i n t h e e v e n t o f a
front or rear collision.

When the vehicle is being driven,
illumination of this warning light
and of the STOP warning light,
accompanied by an audible signal
and a message on the multifunction display,
indicates that the handbrake is still on or
has not been properly released.
When parking on a slope,
direct your wheels to immo-
bilise them against the pave-
ment, pull the handbrake and
engage a gear.
"2 TRONIC" GEARBOX
T h e fi v e - s p e e d c o n t r o l l e d m a n u a l
gearbox offers a choice between the
comfort of automatic regulation or the
pleasure of manual gear changing.
HANDBRAKE
Gear lever positions
N : neutral.
With your foot on the brake, select
this position to start.
R : reverse gear.
With the vehicle stationary, keep your
foot on the brake pedal and push the
gear lever upwards.
Selection of reverse gear is accom-
panied by an audible signal.
A : automated mode.
Move the lever downwards to select
this mode.
M +/-: sequential mode with manual
gear changing.
Move the lever downwards, then to
the left to select this mode, then:
- push forward to change up,
- push rearward to change down.
Applying
Pull the handbrake to immobilise
your vehicle.
It consists of the following controls:
- a gear lever 1 on the centre
console for selecting the driving
mode, reverse gear and neutral
or for changing gear in sequential
mode,
-
a "-" steering wheel control 2 for se-
quential downward gear changes,
- a "+" steering wheel control 3 for
sequential upward gear changes.
Releasing
Pull on the handle and press the
button to release the handbrake.
This gearbox enables you to access
two driving modes:
- an automated mode for automatic
control of the gears by the gear-
box and therefore without any
action on the part of the driver,
- a sequential mode for manual changing of the gears by the
driver using the steering wheel
controls or the gear lever.

Functions of the steering
wheel controls
+ : manual gear changing in sequen-
tial mode.
Press behind the "+" steering wheel
control to change up.
- : manual gear changing in sequen-
tial mode.
Press behind the "-" steering wheel
control to change down. Stopping - Starting on a slope
The "2 Tronic" gearbox is a controlled
manual gearbox which does not have
a clutch pedal.
Do not use the accelerator pedal to
immobilise the vehicle on a slope,
apply the handbrake instead.
When starting on a slope, accelerate
gradually while releasing the hand-
brake.
Moving off
Select position N . Switching to sequential mode
Once you have moved off, you can
switch to sequential mode by selecting
position
M .
"AUTO" disappears and the gears
engaged appear in succession on
the instrument panel display.
The gear change requests are only
carried out if the engine speed per-
mits it.
Take your foot off the accelerator
pedal gently to engage the gear.
At low speeds, when approaching a
s t o p o r t r a f fi c l i g h t s f o r e x a m p l e , t h e
g e a r b o x c h a n g e s d o w n t o fi r s t g e a r
automatically.
P r e s s t h e b r a k e p e d a l fi r m l y
while starting the engine.
Start the engine. "N" appears on the
instrument panel display.
S e l e c t fi r s t g e a r ( p o s i t i o n M or A ) or
r e v e r s e ( p o s i t i o n R ).
Release the handbrake.
Release the brake pedal then accelerate.
"AUTO" and "1" or "R" appear on
the instrument panel display.
It is possible to start in 2nd gear
using the gear lever, in sequential
mode only.
