5. Air conditioning On/Off
The air conditioning is de-signed to operate effectively in all seasons, with the windows closed.
The control button is located on the heating or air conditioning system control panel.
REAR SCREEN DEMIST/
DEFROST
Switch off the demist/defrost
of the rear screen and exterior
mirrors as soon as you consider
this necessary as lower current
consumption results in reduced
fuel consumption.
If the engine is switched off be-
fore the de-icing is switched off
automatically, demist/defrost will
resume next time the engine is
switched on.
Switching on
The rear screen demist/defrost can only
operate when the engine is running.
Press this button to demist/defrost
the rear screen and the exterior mir-
rors. The indicator lamp associated
with the button comes on.
Switching off
The demist/defrost switches off auto-
matically to prevent an excessive con-
sumption of current.
It is possible to stop the demist/de-
frost operation before it is switched
off automatically by pressing the but-
ton again. The indicator lamp associ-
ated with the button switches off.
It enables you to:
- lower the temperature, in summer,
- increase the effectiveness of the demisting, in winter above 0 °C.
Switching on
Press the "A/C" button, the associ-
ated indicator lamp comes on.
The air conditioning does not operate w h e n t h e a i r fl o w a d j u s t m e n t d i a l 2 i s in position "0".
Switching off
Press the "A/C" button again, the
associated indicator lamp switches
off.

FUEL TANK
Fuel tank capacity: approximately
50 litres (petrol) or 45 litres (Diesel).
O p e n i n g t h e fi l l e r c a p m a y c r e a t e a
noise a caused by an inrush of air. This
vacuum is entirely normal, resulting
from the sealing of the fuel system.
T o fi l l t h e t a n k i n c o m p l e t e s a f e t y :
it is imperative that the engine is
switched off,
o p e n t h e f u e l fi l l e r fl a p ,
insert the key in the cap, then turn it
to the left,
W h e n y o u h a v e fi l l e d t h e t a n k :
put the cap back in place,
turn the key to the right, then remove
it from the cap,
c l o s e t h e fl a p .
remove the cap and hook it onto the
c l i p l o c a t e d o n t h e i n s i d e o f t h e fl a p ,
fi l l t h e t a n k , but do not continue
after the 3rd cut-off of the pump ;
this could cause malfunctions.
Low fuel level
Filling
When the fuel tank minimum
level is reached this warning
lamp comes on on the instru-
m e n t p a n e l . W h e n i t fi r s t c o m e s
on there remains approximately 5 litres
of fuel in the tank.
Refuel as soon as possible to avoid run-
ning out of fuel.
If you run out of fuel (Diesel), refer also
to the "Practical information" section.
A l a b e l a f fi x e d t o t h e i n s i d e o f t h e fl a p
reminds you of the type of fuel to be
used depending on your engine.
Additions of fuel must be of at least 5 litres,
in order to be taken into account by the fuel
gauge.

Quality of the fuel used for petrol
engines
The petrol engines are perfectly com-
patible with E10 type petrol biofuels
(containing 10 % ethanol), conforming
to European standards EN 228 and
EN 15376.
E85 type fuels (containing up to 85 %
ethanol) are reserved exclusively for ve-
hicles marketed for the use of this type
of fuel (BioFlex vehicles). The quality of
the ethanol must comply with European
standard EN 15376.
For Brazil only, special vehicles are
marketed to run on fuels containing up
to 100 % ethanol (type E100). Quality of the fuel used for Diesel
engines
The Diesel engines are perfectly com-
patible with biofuels which conform to
current and future European standards
(diesel fuel which complies with stand-
ard EN 590 mixed with a biofuel which
complies with standard EN 14214)
available at the pumps (containing up
to 7 % Fatty Acid Methyl Ester).
The B30 biofuel can be used in cer-
tain Diesel engines; however, this use
is subject to strict application of the
special servicing conditions. Consult a
PEUGEOT dealer.
The use of any other type of (bio)fuel
(vegetable or animal oils, pure or dilut-
ed, domestic fuel...) is strictly prohibited
(risk of damage to the engine and fuel
circuit).

GEAR CHANGE INDICATOR *
System which reduces fuel consump-
tion by advising the driver to change up
a g e a r o n v e h i c l e s fi t t e d w i t h a m a n u a l
gearbox.
Operation
The system acts solely in the context of
economical driving.
Depending on the driving situation and
your vehicle's equipment, the system
may advise you to skip one or more
gears. You can follow this instruction with-
out engaging the intermediate gears.
The gear engagement recommenda-
tions must not be considered compulsory.
I n f a c t , t h e c o n fi g u r a t i o n o f t h e r o a d , t h e
a m o u n t o f t r a f fi c a n d s a f e t y r e m a i n d e t e r -
mining factors when choosing the best
gear. Therefore, the driver remains re-
sponsible for deciding whether or not to
follow the advice given by the system.
This function cannot be deactivated. Example:
- You are in third gear.
The information appears in the form of an
arrow on the instrument panel display. In the case of driving which makes
particular demands on the perfor-
m a n c e o f t h e e n g i n e ( fi r m p r e s -
sure on the accelerator pedal, for
example, when overtaking...), the
system will not recommend a gear
change.
The system never suggests:
- e n g a g i n g o f fi r s t g e a r ,
- engaging of reverse gear,
- engaging of a lower gear.
- You press the accelerator pedal
moderately.
- The system may suggest that you engage a higher gear, if appropriate.

BONNET
Protects the components of the engine and provides access for checking levels.
Push the exterior control B to the left and raise the bonnet.
Unclip the strut C from its housing.
Fix the strut in one of the two notchesto hold the bonnet open.
Closing
Take the strut out of the support notch.
Clip the strut in its housing.
Lower the bonnet and release it at the end of its travel.
Pull on the bonnet to check that it is secured correctly.
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL
(DIESEL)
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a n H D I engine, the fuel circuit must be reprimed if you run out of fuel (refer to the corre-sponding graphic).
This system consists of a repriming pump and a transparent pipe.
Opening
Open the front left door.
Pull the interior control A , located at the bottom of the door frame.
1.4 litre Turbo HDI engine
Open the bonnet.
F i l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e litres of diesel.
Squeeze and release the repriming pump until fuel appears in the trans-parent pipe.
Operate the starter until the engine starts.
Close the bonnet.
1.6 litre Turbo HDI 16V engine
Open the bonnet.
F i l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e litres of diesel.
Unclip the style cover to gain access to the repriming pump.
Squeeze and release the repriming pump until fuel appears in the trans-parent pipe with the green connector.
Operate the starter until the engine starts.
Put the style cover back in position and clip it in place.
Close the bonnet.
