Dynamic stability control (DSC) The DSC system offers excep-
tional safety in normal driving,
but this should not encourage
the driver to take extra risks or drive
at high speed.
The correct functioning of the system
depends on observation of the manu-
facturer’s recommendations regard-
ing the wheels (tyres and rims), the
braking components, the electronic
components and the assembly and
repair procedures used by PEUGEOT
dealers.
After an impact, have the system
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Deactivation
In exceptional conditions (starting a ve-
hicle which is bogged down, stuck in
snow, on soft ground...), it may be ad-
visable to deactivate the DSC system,
so that the wheels can move freely and
regain grip.
Press the "ESP OFF"
button or, according to
version, turn the dial to
this position.
This warning lamp and the in-
dicator lamp on the button or
on the dial come on: the DSC
system no longer acts on the
operation of the engine.
Reactivation
The system is reactivated automatically
each time the ignition is switched back
o n o r f r o m 3 0 m p h ( 5 0 k m / h ) . Operating fault
If this warning lamp comes on,
accompanied by an audible sig-
nal and a message on the mul-
tifunction screen, this indicates
a malfunction of the system.
Contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have the
system checked.

of this warning lamp on the in-
strument panel.
Activation
This system is activated automatically
each time the vehicle is started.
It comes into operation in the event of a
g r i p o r t r a j e c t o r y p r o b l e m .
Press the "ESP OFF" but-

version, turn the dial to this
position, to reactivate it
manually.

GRIP CONTROL
ESP mode
Place the dial in this position. Snow mode
Special patented traction control sys-
tem which improves traction on snow,
mud and sand.
This system is combined with all-sea-
s o n M + S ( M u d a n d S n o w : 2 1 5 / 6 0 R 1 6 )
tyres which offer an excellent compro-
mise between safety, grip and traction.
This system, the operation of which has
been optimised for each situation, al-
lows you to manoeuvre in most condi-
tions of poor grip (encountered during
touring use).
The accelerator pedal should be pressed
s u f fi c i e n t l y t o a l l o w t h e s y s t e m t o u s e
the power of the engine. The electronics
will ensure optimum management of the
various parameters. Operation at high
engine speeds is completely normal.
Each time the ignition is switched off, the
system returns to standard mode (ESP).
Standard mode which is calibrated for
a low level of wheel spin, based on the
different levels of grip normally encoun-
tered on the road.
Mode which adapts its strategy to the
conditions of grip encountered for each
of the two front wheels on moving off.
When moving, the system optimises
wheel spin to provide the best accelera-
tion possible for the grip available.

All-terrain mode (mud, wet grass, ...)
Mode which, when moving off allows
considerable spin on the wheel with
the least grip to optimise clearing of the
mud and regain grip. At the same time,
the wheel with the most grip is control-
led in such a way as to pass as much
torque as possible.
When moving, the system optimises
wheel spin to respond to the driver’s re-
quirements as fully as possible. Sand mode
Mode which allows little spin on the two
driving wheels at the same time to allow
the vehicle to move forward and limit
the risks of getting stuck in the sand.
Driving advice
Your vehicle is designed princi-
pally to drive on tarmac roads
but it allows you to drive on other less
passable terrain occasionally.
However, it does not permit all-
terrain activities such as:
- crossing and driving on terrain which could damage the under-
frame or strip away components
(fuel pipe, fuel cooler, ...) due to
obstacles or stones in particular,
- driving on terrain with steep gra- dients and poor grip,
- crossing a stream.

Pull the strap, then insert the tongue
in the buckle.
Check that the seat belt is fastened
correctly by pulling the strap.

on on the seat belt and pas-
senger's front air bag warning
lamps display, if the driver and/or the
front passenger has not fastened their
seat belt.
From approximately 12 mph (20 km/h)
t h i s w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s f o r t w o m i n -
utes accompanied by an audible signal.
Once these two minutes have elapsed,
this warning lamp remains on until the
driver and/or the front passenger fas-
tens their seat belt.
Unfastening
Press the red button on the buckle.

Front seat belts
T h e f r o n t s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a p r e -
tensioning and force limiting system.
This system improves safety in the front
seats in the event of a front impact. De-
pending on the severity of the impact,
the pretensioning system instantly tight-
ens the seat belts against the body of
the occupants.
The pretensioning seat belts are active
when the ignition is on.
The force limiter reduces the pressure
of the seat belt on the chest of the occu-
pant, so improving their protection.

Seat belt unfastened warning lamp
This warning lamp comes on on
the seat belt and passenger's
front airbag warning lamps dis-
play, when one or more rear pas-
sengers unfasten their seat belt.
From approximately 12 mph (20 km/h),
t h i s w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s f o r t w o m i n u t e s
accompanied by an audible signal. Once
these two minutes have elapsed, this war-
ning lamp remains on until the one or more
rear passengers fasten their seat belt.
Fastening
Pull the strap, then insert the tongue
in the buckle.
Check that the seat belt is fastened
correctly by pulling the strap.
Unfastening
Press the red button on the buckle.
Guide the seat belt as it reels in.
The corresponding warning lamp 2 or 3
comes on in red on the seat belt and
passenger's front air bag warning lamps
display if the seat belt is not fastened or
is unfastened. When the ignition is switched on, with
the engine running or when the vehicle
is moving at less than 12 mph (20 km/h),
the corresponding warning lamps
4 , 5
and 6 come on in red for approximately
3 0 s e c o n d s , i f t h e s e a t b e l t i s n o t f a s -
tened.
When the vehicle is moving at more
than 12 mph (20 km/h), the correspon-
ding warning lamp 4 , 5 or 6 comes on
in red, accompanied by an audible sig-
nal and a message on the multifunction
screen, if a rear passenger has unfas-
tened their seat belt.

The driver must ensure that
passengers use the seat belts
correctly and that they are all
restrained securely before setting off.
Wherever you are seated in the
vehicle, always fasten your seat belt,
e v e n f o r s h o r t j o u r n e y s .
Do not invert the seat belt buckles as
t h e y w i l l n o t f u l fi l t h e i r r o l e f u l l y .
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n i n -
e r t i a r e e l p e r m i t t i n g a u t o m a t i c a d j u s t -
ment of the length of the strap to your
s i z e . T h e s e a t b e l t i s s t o r e d a u t o m a t -
ically when not in use.
Before and after use, ensure that the
seat belt is reeled in correctly.
The lower part of the strap must be
positioned as low as possible on the
pelvis.
The upper part must be positioned in
the hollow of the shoulder.
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n a u -
tomatic locking device which comes
into operation in the event of a colli-
sion, emergency braking or if the ve-
hicle rolls over. You can release the
d e v i c e b y p u l l i n g fi r m l y o n t h e s t r a p
and releasing it so that it re-winds
slightly. In order to be effective, a seat belt
must:
- be tightened as close to the body
as possible,
- be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement, checking that
it does not twist,
-
be used to restrain only one person,
-
not bear any trace of cuts or fraying,
- n o t b e c o n v e r t e d o r m o d i fi e d t o avoid affecting its performance.
In accordance with current safety
regulations, all repairs and checks
must be carried out by a PEUGEOT
dealer who guarantees that the work
is carried out correctly.
Have your seat belts checked regu-
larly by a PEUGEOT dealer and par-
ticularly if the straps show signs of
damage.
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water or a textile cleaning product,
sold by PEUGEOT dealers.
After folding or moving a seat or rear
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt
is positioned and reeled in correctly. Recommendations for children
Use a suitable child seat if the pas-
senger is less than 12 years old or
shorter than one and a half metres.
Never use the same seat belt to se-
cure more than one person.
Never allow a child to travel on your lap.
In the event of an impact
Depending on the nature and se-
riousness of the impacts , the pre-
tensioning device may be triggered
before and independently of the air-
bags. Triggering of the pre-tensioners
is accompanied by a slight discharge
of harmless smoke and a noise, due
to the activation of the pyrotechnic
cartridge incorporated in the system.
In all cases, the airbag warning lamp
comes on.
Following an impact, have the seat
belts system checked, and if neces-
sary replaced, by a PEUGEOT dealer.

AIRBAGS
Triggering of the airbag(s) is
accompanied by a slight emis-
sion of harmless smoke and
a noise, due to the activation of the
pyrotechnic cartridge incorporated in
the system.
This smoke is not harmful, but sensi-
tive individuals may experience slight
irritation.
The noise of the detonation may re-
sult in a slight loss of hearing for a
short time.
Front airbags
System which protects the driver and
front passenger in the event of a seri-
ous front impact in order to limit the risk
o f i n j u r y t o t h e h e a d a n d c h e s t .
The driver's airbag is incorporated in
the centre of the steering wheel; the
front passenger's airbag is incorporated
in the dashboard above the glove box.
Activation
The airbags are triggered simultane-
ously, unless the passenger's front
airbag is deactivated, in the event of a
serious front impact to all or part of the
f r o n t i m p a c t z o n e A , in the longitudinal
c e n t r e l i n e o f t h e v e h i c l e o n a h o r i z o n t a l
plane and directed from the front to the
rear of the vehicle.
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e f r o n t
occupant of the vehicle and the dash-
board to cushion his forward movement.
Impact detection zones

The airbags do not oper-
ate when the ignition is
switched off.
This equipment will only deploy once.
If a second impact occurs (during the
same or a subsequent accident), the
airbag will not be triggered again.
System designed to maximise the safety
of the occupants (with the exception of
the rear centre passenger) in the event
of violent collisions. It supplements the
action of the force-limiting seat belts
(with the exception of the rear centre
passenger).
If a collision occurs, the electronic de-
tectors record and analyse the front and
side impacts sustained in the impact
d e t e c t i o n z o n e s :
- in the case of a serious impact, the
airbags are triggered instantly and
protect the occupants of the vehicle
(with the exception of the rear centre
passenger); immediately after the
i m p a c t , t h e a i r b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y
so that they do not hinder visibility
or the exit of the occupants,
- in the case of a minor or rear impact or in certain roll-over conditions, the
airbags will not be triggered; the
s e a t b e l t a l o n e i s s u f fi c i e n t t o p r o -
vide optimum protection in these
situations.

If at least one of the two air-
bag warning lamps come on
continuously, do not install
a child seat on the front passenger
seat.
Have the system checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.
Operating fault If this warning lamp comes
on on the instrument panel,
accompanied by an audible
warning and a message on
the multifunction screen,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer to have the
system checked. The airbags may no
longer be triggered in the event of a se-
rious impact.
Reactivation
When you remove the child seat, turn
the switch
1 to the "ON" position to re-
activate the airbag and so assure the
safety of your front passenger in the
event of an impact.
With the ignition on, this war-
ning lamp comes on on the
seat belt and passenger's front
airbag warning lamps display
for approximately one minute,
if the passenger's front airbag
is activated.
To assure the safety of your
child, it is imperative that the
passenger's front airbag is
deactivated when you install a "rear
facing" child seat on the front pas-
senger seat.
Otherwise, the child would risk being
s e r i o u s l y i n j u r e d o r k i l l e d i f t h e a i r b a g
were triggered.
According to version, this
warning lamp comes on either
on the instrument panel or on
the seat belt and passenger's
front airbag warning lamps
display when the ignition is on and until
the airbag is reactivated. I f t h i s w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s ,
contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
The passenger's front airbag
may no longer be triggered in
the event of a serious impact.
Deactivation
Only the passenger's front airbag can
be deactivated:
with the ignition off , insert the key
in the passenger airbag deactivation
switch 1 ,
turn it to the "OFF" position,
then, remove the key keeping the
switch in the new position.

For the airbags to be fully
effective, observe the
following safety rules:
Sit in a normal upright position.
W e a r a c o r r e c t l y a d j u s t e d s e a t b e l t .
Do not leave anything between the
occupants and the airbags (a child,
p e t , o b j e c t . . . ) . T h i s c o u l d h a m p e r t h e
o p e r a t i o n o f t h e a i r b a g s o r i n j u r e t h e
occupants.
After an accident or if the vehicle has
been stolen or broken into, have the
airbag systems checked.
All work on the airbag system is strict-
ly forbidden unless it is carried out by
q u a l i fi e d p e r s o n n e l o f t h e P E U G E O T
dealer network.
Even if all of the precautions men-
t i o n e d a r e o b s e r v e d , a r i s k o f i n j u r y
or of minor burns to the head, chest
or arms when an airbag is triggered
c a n n o t b e r u l e d o u t . T h e b a g i n fl a t e s
almost instantly (within a few mil-
l i s e c o n d s ) t h e n d e fl a t e s w i t h i n t h e
same time discharging the hot gas
via openings provided for this pur-
pose. Front airbags
Do not drive holding the steering
wheel by its spokes or resting your
hands on the centre part of the
wheel.
Passengers must not place their feet
on the dashboard.
If possible, do not smoke as deploy-
ment of the airbags can cause burns
o r t h e r i s k o f i n j u r y f r o m a c i g a r e t t e
or pipe.
Never remove or pierce the steering
wheel or hit it violently.
Lateral airbags
Use only approved covers on the seats.
T h e s e w i l l n o t h i n d e r i n fl a t i o n o f t h e
lateral airbags. Consult a PEUGEOT
dealer.
D o n o t fi x o r a t t a c h a n y t h i n g t o t h e
seat backs (clothing...). This could
c a u s e i n j u r y t o t h e c h e s t o r a r m s i f
the lateral airbag is triggered.
Do not sit with the upper part of the
body any nearer to the door than
necessary.
Curtain airbags
D o n o t fi x o r a t t a c h a n y t h i n g t o t h e
r o o f . T h i s c o u l d c a u s e i n j u r y t o t h e
head if the curtain airbag is trig-
gered.
Do not remove the grab handles in-
stalled on the roof, they play a part in
securing the curtain airbags.

Lateral airbags
System which protects the driver and
front passenger in the event of a seri-
ous side impact in order to limit the risk
o f i n j u r y t o t h e c h e s t .
E a c h l a t e r a l a i r b a g i s fi t t e d i n t h e f r o n t , i n
the outer side of the seat back frame.
Activation
The lateral airbags are triggered unilate-
rally in the event of a serious side impact
applied to all or part of the side impact
z o n e B , perpendicular to the longitudinal
c e n t r e l i n e o f t h e v e h i c l e o n a h o r i z o n t a l
plane and directed from the outside to-
wards the inside of the vehicle.
Curtain airbags
System which protects the driver and
passengers (with the exception of the
rear centre passenger) in the event of a
serious side impact in order to limit the
r i s k o f i n j u r y t o t h e s i d e o f t h e h e a d .
Each curtain airbag is built into the pil-
lars and the upper passenger compart-
ment area. Operating fault
Activation
The curtain airbag is triggered at the same
time as the corresponding lateral airbag in
the event of a serious side impact applied
t o a l l o r p a r t o f t h e s i d e i m p a c t z o n e
B ,
perpendicular to the longitudinal cen-
t r e l i n e o f t h e v e h i c l e o n a h o r i z o n t a l p l a n e
and directed from the outside towards the
inside of the vehicle.
T h e c u r t a i n a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e
front or rear occupant of the vehicle and
the windows.
In the event of a minor impact
or bump on the side of the
vehicle or if the vehicle rolls
over, the airbag may not be
triggered.
In the event of a rear or front colli-
sion, the airbag is not triggered.
