Bonnet stay BONNET
Handle the exterior safety catch and
the bonnet stay with care when the en-
gine is hot (risk of burns).
Opening
From inside: pull the release lever on
the left-hand side under the dashboard
towards you.
From outside: move the safety catch to
the left and up then raise the bonnet. Secure the stay in its housing to hold
the bonnet open.
Before closing the bonnet, replace the
stay in its clip. Closing
Lower the bonnet and release it at the
end of its travel. Check that the bonnet
is fully closed.

CHECKING THE LEVELS
These are normal maintenance opera-
tions which keep your vehicle in good
working order. Obtan advice from the
PEUGEOT dealer network or from the
Warranty and Maintenance Record
provided with the vehicle.

Dipstick There are two marks on
the dipstick:
A = maximum
N e v e r fi l l p a s t t h i s m a r k .
B = minimum
To maintain the reliability
of engines and emission
control systems, the use
of additives in engine oil is
prohibited.
Oil level
Check the level regularly and top
up between changes.
Check the level with the vehicle level,
the engine having been off for more
than 15 minutes, using the dipstick. Oil change
It is essential that this is carried out at
t h e i n t e r v a l s s p e c i fi e d a n d t h e v i s c o s i t y
of the oil chosen must meet the require-
ments laid down in the manufacturer's
servicing schedule. Ask for advice from
the PEUGEOT dealer network.
Note : avoid used oil coming into pro-
longed contact with the skin. Empty
the used oil into the containers provid-
ed for this purpose in the PEUGEOT
dealer network (France) or take it to
an approved recycling centre. system is pressurised, wait for at least
one hour after the engine has stopped
before carrying out any work.
Oil filter
R e p l a c e t h e fi l t e r r e g u l a r l y i n a c c o r -
dance with the recommendations of
the servicing schedule.
Brake fluid change
U s e t h e fl u i d r e c o m m e n d e d b y t h e
m a n u f a c t u r e r , w h i c h f u l fi l s t h e D O T 4
standard.
I t i s e s s e n t i a l t h a t t h e b r a k e fl u i d i s
c h a n g e d a t t h e i n t e r v a l s s p e c i fi e d i n
the manufacturer's servicing schedule.
Note : avoid all contact with the skin;
t h e b r a k e fl u i d i s h a r m f u l t o h e a l t h a n d
is very corrosive. Used oil
Power steering reservoir
U s e t h e fl u i d r e c o m m e n d e d b y t h e
manufacturer.
Open the reservoir, with the engine
at ambient temperature. The level
should always be above the MIN.
mark and close to the MAX. mark.
Cooling system Screenwash and headlamp
wash level
To ensure optimum cleaning and avoid
f r e e z i n g , t h i s fl u i d s h o u l d n o t b e t o p p e d
up or replaced with plain water. Slacken the cap by two turns
to release the pressure to pre-
vent any risk of scalding. When
the pressure has dropped, re-
move the cap and top up the level.
Note : the coolant does not need to be
changed.
U s e t h e fl u i d r e c o m m e n d e d
by the manufacturer.
When the engine is warm, the
temperature of the coolant is
controlled by the engine fan. As this
fan can operate with the ignition key
removed and because the cooling Do not dispose of used oil,
b r a k e fl u i d o r c o o l a n t i n t o
drains or onto the ground.
Take care when working un-
der the bonnet, as some parts
of the engine can be very hot
(risk of burns).

CHECKS
At the start of winter, have
your battery checked by a
PEUGEOT dealer.
H a v e t h e fi l t e r e l e m e n t s
replaced regularly. If you
drive in dusty conditions,
change them twice as often.
Air filter and passenger compartment filter
Particle emission filter (Diesel)
It is essential that the particle emission
fi l t e r i s m a i n t a i n e d i n a c c o r d a n c e w i t h
the manufacturer's servicing schedule,
by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Note : following prolonged operation
of the vehicle at very low speed or at
idle, you may, in exceptional circum-
stances, notice emissions of water va-
pour at the exhaust on acceleration.
This does not have any effect on the
performance of the vehicle or the en-
vironment.
O n v e h i c l e s w h i c h a r e fi t t e d w i t h a p a r -
t i c l e e m i s s i o n fi l t e r , t h e c o o l i n g f a n m a y
operate after the vehicle has stopped,
even when the engine is cold. Where the parking brake trav-
el is too great or there is a re-
duction in the performance of
the system, the parking brake
should be adjusted.
Have the system checked by a PEUGEOT
dealer.

Disc wear status
For any information relating to check-
ing disc wear, contact a PEUGEOT
dealer.
FUEL SUPPLY CUT-OFF (PETROL) *
As a safety precaution, in certain cir-
cumstances the fuel supply to the en-
gine is cut off.
To re-establish the fuel supply:
RUNNING OUT OF FUEL (DIESEL)
If you should run out of fuel, it is ne-
cessary to prime the fuel system.
The priming pump and the bleed screw
are located under the bonnet (see cor-
responding illustration in the technical
information section):
1.6 litre 16V HDI engine
- fi l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e l i -
tres of diesel,
- squeeze and release the manual priming pump until fuel appears in
the transparent pipe,
- operate the starter until the engine starts.
2 litre 16V HDI engine
- fi l l t h e f u e l t a n k w i t h a t l e a s t fi v e l i - tres of diesel,
- unscrew the bleed screw,
- squeeze and release the manual priming pump until diesel is seen
escaping via the bleed screw,
- retighten the bleed screw,
- operate the starter until the engine starts.
Brake pad wear depends on
the style of driving, in particu-
lar for vehicles which are used
in town, over short distances.
Brake pads It may be necessary to check
the brake pads for wear, even
between services.

To ensure the best perfor-
mance from components as
important as the power steer-
ing and the braking system,
the manufacturer selects and offers
s p e c i fi c p r o d u c t s , o n l y u s e p r o d u c t s
recommended by PEUGEOT.
Battery
To prevent damage to the electrical
units, high pressure washing of the en-
gine compartment is strictly prohibited .

CHANGING A WHEEL
Tools available
The following tools are located in
the holder in the centre of the spare
wheel:
1. Wheelbrace.
For removal of the wheel trim and removal of the wheel securing
bolts.
2. Jack with integral handle.
For raising the vehicle.
3. Removable towing eye.
See corresponding section.
4. Bolt cover tool.
For removal of the bolt protectors (covers) on alloy wheels. Removal
For vehicles with steel wheels, de-
tach the trim using the wheelbrace 1
pulling at the valve passage hole.
For vehicles with alloy wheels, re-
move the covers using tool 4 .
Loosen the wheel bolts.
Take the jack from the tool kit.
Place the jack 2 in one of the four
locations underneath the vehicle
(the nearest one to the wheel to be
changed).
Extend the jack 2 until its base is in
contact with the ground.
Unscrew the bolts and remove the
wheel.

the jack in the boot

hicle which is supported only
by a jack.
Park the vehicle on level, stable
and non-slippery ground.
Apply the parking brake, switch off
t h e i g n i t i o n a n d e n g a g e fi r s t o r r e -
verse gear (position P for the auto-
matic gearbox).

Fitting a wheel
Position the wheel.
Tighten the bolts by hand.
Partly tighten the bolts using the
wheelbrace.
Fold the jack 2 and remove it.
Fully tighten the bolts using the
wheelbrace 1 .
For vehicles with steel wheels, re-
fi t t h e w h e e l t r i m s t a r t i n g b y p l a c -
ing its notch facing the valve and
press with the palm of the hand.
F o r v e h i c l e s w i t h a l l o y w h e e l s , r e fi t
the covers.
Put the tool holder back in position.
T h i s h e l p s t o k e e p t h e b o o t fl o o r i n i t s
correct position, to prevent any de-
f o r m a t i o n o f t h e fl o o r w h e n l o a d e d .
Tighten the spare wheel securing
strap to prevent noise and for your
safety in the event of impact. Punctured tyre warning

panel:
Reminder: for your safety, always
change a wheel:
- on level, stable, non-slippery ground,
- with the parking brake applied,
- w i t h fi r s t o r r e v e r s e g e a r e n g a g e d (position P for the automatic gear-
box),
- never go underneath a vehicle which is supported only by a jack.
T y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n
system warning lamp
These original equipment wheels are
fi t t e d w i t h a p r e s s u r e s e n s o r ( s e e
p a r a g r a p h " T y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c -
tion"). The warning which detects the
r e m o v a l o r a b s e n c e o f a w h e e l fi t t e d
with the pressure sensor signals the
anomaly. Have the wheel repaired and
checked by a PEUGEOT dealer.
After changing the wheel:
- have the tightness of the bolts and
the tyre pressure of the spare wheel
checked as soon as possible.
- have the punctured wheel repaired a n d r e fi t i t t o t h e v e h i c l e a s s o o n a s
possible.
- have the spare wheel checked and replace it in its boot recess.
Recommendations when using
the temporary spare wheel *
Your vehicle may be equipped with a
spare wheel with a different rim to that
of the standard wheel.
After use, replace it as soon as possible.
Follow the recommendations below
to avoid any alteration in vehicle han-
dling:
-
do not drive above 50 mph (80 km/h) ,
- d o n o t fi t a w h e e l t r i m ,
- drive carefully,
- c h e c k t h e i n fl a t i o n p r e s s u r e i n d i c a t e d on the label.

Bolt covers
Alloy wheel bolts are covered by
chrome trims.
Use the yellow tool to remove the trims
before slackening the bolts. Fitting the spare wheel
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a s t e e l s p a r e
w h e e l , w h e n fi t t i n g i t , i t i s
normal when
tightening the bolts to notice that the
washers do not come into contact with
the rim. The spare wheel is secured by
the cone shape of each bolt.
VERY COLD CLIMATE SCREEN *
The very cold climate screen is a par-
tial removable cover which is clipped
onto the air intake grille to prevent the
accumulation of snow due to direct
splashes.
O n c e i t h a s b e e n fi t t e d o n y o u r v e h i c l e ,
it must be removed when the ambient
temperature rises above 10 °C again.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
215/55 R17 tyres cannot be

Special features of alloy
wheels
Security bolts
Y o u r w h e e l s a r e fi t t e d w i t h s e c u r i t y
bolts (one per wheel), placed under
chrome trims which must be removed
using the yellow tool, before the bolts
are unscrewed using the security bolt
socket and the wheelbrace 1 .
Fitting snow tyres
I f y o u fi t s n o w t y r e s m o u n t e d o n s t e e l
wheels onto your vehicle, it is
essen-
tial to use special bolts available from
your PEUGEOT dealer.
This security bolt socket was
given to you on delivery of
your vehicle with the duplicate
keys. Make a careful note of
the code number engraved on the
head of the security bolt socket. This
will enable you to obtain a duplicate
security bolt socket from a PEUGEOT
dealer. You are advised to do the same
for the duplicate keys.
