It is not recommended to use the cigarette lighter
to plug in auxiliary electrical equipment. Use
the accessory power outlet for phones and other
electrical equipment. SeeAccessory Power

Notice:Holding a cigarette lighter in while it
is heating does not let the lighter back
away from the heating element when it is hot.
Damage from overheating can occur to the
lighter or heating element, or a fuse could be
blown. Do not hold a cigarette lighter in while it
is heating.
Your vehicle may have a removable ashtray that
sits in your front cupholder in the center console

Climate Control System
With this system you can control the heating,
cooling and ventilation for your vehicle.
Operation

(Fan):Turn the center knob away from OFF to
turn the system on. Turn the knob toward HI to
increase fan speed.
If the airow seems low when the fan is at the
highest setting, the passenger compartment
air lter may need to be replaced. For more
information, seePassenger Compartment Air Filter
on page 156andScheduled Maintenance on
page 377.

The rear window defogger will turn off
automatically approximately 15 minutes after the
button is pressed. The defogger can also be turned
off by pressing the button again or by turning off
the engine.
Notice:Do not use a razor blade or sharp
object to clear the inside rear window. Do not
adhere anything to the defogger grid lines
in the rear glass. These actions may damage
the rear defogger. Repairs would not be
covered by your warranty.
Outlet Adjustment
Use the air outlets located in the center and
outboard sides of the instrument panel, to change
the direction of the air owing through the vents.
Operation Tips
Clear away any ice, snow or leaves from the
air inlets at the base of the windshield that
may block the ow of air into your vehicle.
Use of non-GM approved hood deectors may
adversely affect the performance of the system.
Keep the path under the front seats clear of
objects to help circulate the air inside of your
vehicle more effectively.
If the airow seems low when the fan is at the
highest setting, the passenger compartment air
lter may need to be replaced. For more

Filter” following andScheduled Maintenance on
page 377.

Passenger Compartment Air Filter
Passenger compartment air, both outside and
recirculated air, is routed through a passenger
compartment air lter. The lter removes certain
contaminants from the air, including pollen
and dust particles. Reductions in airow, which
may occur more quickly in dusty areas, indicate
that the lter needs to be replaced early. An
air lter is available through your dealer. For how
often to change the air lter, seeScheduled
Maintenance on page 377.The access panel for the air lter is behind the
glove box. To replace the lter, follow these steps:
1. Lower the glove box door and remove the
screw on the right side of the glovebox with
a tool. Slide the arm of the glovebox off.
2. Push each side of the glovebox in and pull
toward you.

Engine Air Cleaner/Filter
The engine air cleaner/lter is in the engine
compartment on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

When to Inspect the Engine Air
Cleaner/Filter
If you are driving in dusty/dirty conditions, inspect
the air cleaner/lter at each engine oil change.
Replace the lter every 30,000 miles (48 000 km)
or 24 months, whichever occurs rst. See
Part A: Scheduled Maintenance Services on
page 376for more information.
How to Inspect the Engine Air
Cleaner/Filter
To inspect the air cleaner/lter remove the lter
from the vehicle and lightly shake the lter to
release loose dust and dirt. If the lter remains
caked with dirt, a new lter is required.
