Whenthedriverbacksup,theparkingassistantsystemindicatesthedistancebetweenthecarandalargeobstaclebehindit,bymeansofsignaltones.
Warning!
Riskofseriouspersonalinjuryordeath.Parkingassistantcannotdetectsmallobjectssuchaschildrenandpets.Despiteuseoftheparkingassistantsystem,thedriverisstillresponsiblefortakingduecareandassessingobstacleswhenbackingup.
Makesurethatnopersons,especiallysmallchildren,animalsorobstaclesarewithinthemaneuvringarea.
Theparkingassistantsystemisactivatedautomati-callywhenreversegearisselectedandtheignitionison.
Note
Beawarethattheparkingassistantsystemisnotswitchedonifthecarrollsbackwardwithoutreversegearbeingengaged.
Ultrasoundsensors
Sensors
Fourultrasoundsensorsintherearbumpermeasurethedistancetotheclosestobstacle.
–Rangemiddlesensorsaround60in./150cm
–Rangeoutersensorsaround24in./60cm
Obstaclescannotbedetectedinthe“blind”sensorarea(e.g.neartheground).
Note
Thesensorsmustalwaysbekeptfreeofdust,iceandsnowinordertoensurethattheyarefullyfunctional.
Caution!
Toavoiddamagingthesensors:
Maintainsufficientdistancewhencleaningwithsteam-jetunits.
Signaltones/function
Whenreversegearisselected,theparkingassistantconfirmsthatitisswitchedonbyissuingashortsignaltone.
Adetectedobstacleissignalledbyanintermit-tenttone.Theintervalsdecreaseastheobstacleisapproached.
Acontinuoustonesoundswhenthedistancebecomeslessthanonefoot.Thiscontinuoustonecanstopiftheobstacleisapproachedcloserthanonefoot.
Theradiovolumeshouldnotbesoloudastodrownoutthesignaltones.
Limitsofultrasonicmeasurement
Theparkingassistantsystemcannotdetect:
–sound-absorbingobstacles(e.g.winteroperation,powdersnow),
–sound-reflectingobstacles(e.g.glasssurfaces,flatpaintedsurfaces)
–andverythinobstacles.

–Otherultrasoundsources(e.g.pneumaticbrakesofothervehicles,jackhammers)caninterferewithdetectionofobstacles.
Faultindication
Theparkingassistantsystemindicatesafaultintwoways:
–Afterreversegearhasbeenselected,theshortsignaltoneisfollowedbyacontinuoustoneofthesamepitch:Thisindicatesthatsensorsaresoiledorcoveredwithice.
–Afterreversegearhasbeenselected,theshortsignaltoneisfollowedbyacontinuoustonewithamuchlowerpitch:Thisindicatesageneralsystemfault.PleasehavethefaultremediedatanauthorizedPorschedealer.
