REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
aPosition the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (MR 411, 02A, Lifting equip-
ment).
aRemove:
-the engine cover,
-the front wheels (see Wheel: Removal - Refitting)
(MR 411, 35A, Wheels and tyres),
-the front wheel arch liners (see Front wheel arch
liner: Removal - Refitting) (MR 412, 55A, Exterior
protection),
-the front bumper (see Front bumper: Removal -
Refitting) (MR 412, 55A, Exterior protection).
aDrain the cooling system (see 19A, Cooling, Cool-
ing system: Draining - Refilling, page 19A-9) .
aRemove the expansion bottle bolt.
aRemove the expansion bottle.
aUnclip the cooling hose on the lower section of the
engine cooling fan.II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
aDisconnect:
-the cooling hose (1) using the (Mot. 1448),
-the oil pressure sensor connector (2) .
aRemove:
-the bolt (3) from the oil filter support,
-the oil filter holder.
aRemove:
-the oil cooler nipple,
-the oil-water heat exchanger. Special tooling required
Mot. 1448Remote operation pliers for
hose clips .

Be prepared for engine oil and coolant to flow

REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
aUsing the buffing pads, clean the pressure faces of
the oil-water heat exchanger and the cylinder block.
aFit new seals on the oil-water heat exchanger with
soapy water.
aCheck the condition of the oil-water heat exchanger
nipple seals.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
aCoat the nipple with high resistance thread lock.
aRefit:
-the coolant-oil heat exchanger,
-the oil-coolant heat exchanger nipple.
aFit a new seal on the oil filter holder.
aRefit:
-the oil filter holder,
-the oil filter mounting bolt.
aTighten the oil filter mounting bolt.
aConnect:
-the oil pressure sensor connector,
-the cooling hose using the (Mot. 1448).
III - FINAL OPERATION
aClip the cooling hose on to the lower section of the
engine cooling fan.
aPosition the expansion bottle.
aRefit the expansion bottle bolt.aFill the cooling system (see 19A, Cooling, Cooling
system: Draining - Refilling, page 19A-9) .
aRefit:
-the front bumper (see Front bumper: Removal -
Refitting) (MR 412, 55A, Exterior protection),
-the front wheel arch liners (see Front wheel arch
liner: Removal - Refitting) (MR 412, 55A, Exterior
protection),
-the front wheels (see Wheel: Removal - Refitting)
(MR 411, 35A, Wheels and tyres),
-the engine cover. WARNING
The joint faces must be clean, dr y and free from
grease (avoid finger marks).
WARNING
The gaskets must always be replaced with new
gaskets.
Note:
The oil-water heat exchanger nipple seals cannot
be separated; the entire assembly must be
replaced.

aRemove:
-the front right-hand wheel (see Wheel: Removal -
Refitting) (35A, Wheels and tyres),
-the front right-hand wheel arch liner (see Front
wheel arch liner: Removal - Refitting) (55A, Ex-
terior protection),
-the oil filter (see 10A, Engine and cylinder block
assembly, Oil filter: Removal - Refitting, page
10A-29) .II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
aFit the tool (Ms. 583) onto the oil-coolant heat ex-
changer hoses (1) .
aRelease the clips (2) using the (Mot. 1448).
aConnect the oil-coolant heat exchanger hoses.
aRemove:
-the nipple (3) from the oil-coolant heat exchanger,
-the oil-water heat exchanger. Special tooling required
Ms. 583Pipe clamps .

REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
aparts always to be replaced: coolant-engine oil
heat exchanger seal on the cylinder block.
aUse a GREY ABRASIVE PAD (see Vehicle: Parts
and consumables for the repair) (04B, Consum-
ables - Products) to clean the bearing faces of the
oil-coolant heat exchanger and the cylinder block.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
aCoat the nipple with HIGH STRENGTH THREAD-
LOCK (see Vehicle: Parts and consumables for
the repair) (04B, Consumables - Products).
aRefit:
-the oil-coolant heat exchanger,
-the oil-coolant heat exchanger nipple.
aTorque tighten the oil-coolant heat exchanger nip-
ple (30 N.m).
aConnect the oil-coolant heat exchanger hoses.
aRefit the clips using the (Mot. 1448).
aRemove the tools (Ms. 583).
III - FINAL OPERATION
aRefit:
-the oil filter (see 10A, Engine and cylinder block
assembly, Oil filter: Removal - Refitting, page
10A-29) ,
-the front right-hand wheel arch liner (see Front
wheel arch liner: Removal - Refitting) (55A, Ex-
terior protection),
-the front right-hand wheel (see Wheel: Removal -
Refitting) (35A, Wheels and tyres).
aFill and bleed the cooling system (see 19A, Cool-
ing, Cooling system: Draining - Refilling, page
19A-9) . WARNING
To ensure proper sealing, the gasket surfaces
must be clean, dry and not greasy (avoid any fin-
ger marks).

aDisconnect the oil pressure sensor connector.
aDisconnect the oil pressure sensor connector (1) .
aFit hose clamps (Ms. 583) onto the oil-coolant heat
exchanger hoses (2) .
aRelease the clips (3) using the (Mot. 1448).
aDisconnect the oil cooler hoses.
aRemove the timing sprocket. D4F, and 772 – D7F

aRemove:
-the nut,
-the cover,
-the guard,
-the threaded rod.
aConnect the oil-coolant heat exchanger hoses.
aPut the clips (3) in place using the (Mot. 1448).
aRemove the hose clamps (Ms. 583) from the oil-wa-
ter heat exchanger hoses.
aConnect the oil pressure sensor connector.
aRefit:
-the timing sprocket,
-the sump (see 10A, Engine and cylinder block
assembly, Lower cover: Removal - Refitting,
page 10A-6) .
aFit the lower engine support tool (Mot. 1379).
aRemove:
-the right-hand suspended mounting support bolts,
-the right-hand suspended mounting support,
-the upper timing cover bolts,
-the upper timing cover.aRefit:
-the timing belt (see 11A, Top and front of engine,
Timing belt: Removal - Refitting, page 11A-27) ,
-the crankshaft accessories pulley (see 11A, Top
and front of engine, Crankshaft accessories
pulley: Removal - Refitting, page 11A-20) ,
-the right-hand suspended engine mounting (see
19D, Engine mounting, Right-hand suspended
engine mounting: Removal - Refitting, page
19D-13) .
aRemove the lower engine support tool (Mot. 1379).
aRefit:
-the engine tie-bar (see 19D, Engine mounting,
Lower engine tie-bar: Removal - Refitting, page
19D-18) ,
-the accessories belt (see 11A, Top and front of
engine, Accessories belt: Removal - Refitting,
page 11A-3) ,
-the engine undertray,
-the front wheel arch liners (see Front wheel arch
liner: Removal - Refitting) (55A, Exterior protec-
tion),
-the front wheels (see Wheel: Removal - Refitting)
(35A, Wheels and tyres),
-the dipstick,
-the oil filter (see 10A, Engine and cylinder block

aTop up the engine oil (see 10A, Engine and cylin-
der block assembly, Engine oil: Draining - Refill-

aPosition the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (02A, Lifting equipment).
aDisconnect the battery (see ) (80A, Battery).
aRemove:
-the front right-hand wheel (see Wheel: Removal -
Refitting) (35A, Wheels and tyres),
-the front right-hand wheel arch liner (see Front
wheel arch liner: Removal - Refitting) (55A, Ex-
terior protection),
-the accessories belt (see 11A, Top and front of
engine, Accessories belt: Removal - Refitting,
page 11A-3) ,
-the alternator (see 16A, Starting - Charging, Al-
ternator: Removal - Refitting, page 16A-1) .
aRemove the air conditioning compressor (see Com-
pressor: Removal - Refitting) (62A, Air condition-
ing).II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
aRemove:
-the bolt of the coolant-oil heat exchanger cooling
pipes support from the multifunction support,
-the bolts (4) from the coolant pump inlet pipe,
-the multifunction support bolts (3) ,
-the multifunction support.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
aRefit:
-the multifunction support,
-the multifunction support bolts,
-the coolant pump inlet pipe bolts,
-the bolt of the coolant-oil heat exchanger cooling
pipes support on the multifunction support.
aTorque tighten:
-the multifunction support bolts (50 N.m),
-the coolant pump inlet pipe bolts (10 N.m). Tightening torquesm

aDrain the cooling system (see 19A, Cooling, Cool-
ing system: Draining - Refilling, page 19A-9) .
aUnclip the cooling hose of the coolant-oil heat ex-
changer at (11) .
aMove aside the cooling hose of the coolant-oil heat
exchanger.
aSeparate the clips of the water chamber cooling hos-
es (12) using the (Mot. 1448).
aDisconnect:
-the water chamber cooling hoses (12) ,
-the coolant temperature sensor connector.II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
aRemove:
-the water chamber bolts (13) ,
-the water chamber,
-the water chamber seal.
aTurn the thermostat one quarter of a turn.
aRemove the thermostat from the water chamber.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
aUse SURFACE CLEANER (see Vehicle: Parts
and consumables for the repair) (04B, Consum-
ables - Products) to clean and degrease.
aparts always to be replaced: Cylinder head cool-

WARNING
Do not scrape the joint faces of the aluminium,
any damage caused to the joint face will result in
a risk of leaks.
WARNING
To ensure proper sealing, the gasket surfaces
must be clean, dry and not greasy (avoid any fin-
ger mar ks).

COOLING
Water chamber: Removal - Refitting

II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
aRefit the thermostat to the water chamber.
aRefit:
-a new water chamber seal,
-the water chamber.
aTorque tighten the water chamber bolts (10 N.m).
III - FINAL OPERATION
aConnect the cooling hoses on the water chamber.
aPosition the cooling hose clips on the water chamber
using the tool (Mot. 1448).
aClip on the cooling hose of the coolant-oil heat ex-
changer.
aConnect the intercooler air outlet pipe on the side of
the damper valve.
aTorque tighten the intercooler air outlet pipe clip
at the damper valve end (5.5 N.m).
aConnect the brake servo vacuum pipe.
aClip:
-the turbocharging pressure regulator vacuum pipe,
-the vacuum pipe from the brake servo.
aConnect the turbocharging pressure regulator vacu-
um pipe.
aRefit the nuts of the air hoses on the lifting eye.
aConnect the intercooler air inlet pipe at the turbo-
charger end.
aClip on the intercooler air inlet pipe clip at the turbo-
charger end.
aFill the cooling system (see 19A, Cooling, Cooling
system: Draining - Refilling, page 19A-9) .
aRefit the engine cover. K9K, and 718
