General informationEquipment overview
Switching on/off: Rotary/push knob for switching the navigation 
system on/off (press) and volume control (turn)
Selector key  for selecting the corresponding menu:
−  – changes over into radio mode and changes the 
frequency range when in the radio mode.
−  – changes over to the last played media source or selects 
a new media source.
−  – Phone function – Muting of the current audio source.
−  – opens the sound and volume settings menu.
−  – switches over to the map with the display of the current 
vehicle position or route during  route guidance. An additional 
window with further information will be inserted or faded out.
−  – switches over  to navigation
−  – switches over to the stor ed TMC traffic reports display 
( T raffic- Message- Channels).
−  – enables setting-up the individual fields.
 and    : The backwards/forwards keys operate the “active” audio 
source.
− RADIO-Mode  – for the selection of the stations from the memory 
list.
− MEDIA-Mode  – for the selection of the previous or following 
track.
− TV-Mode  – for the selection of the st ations from the memory list.
CD/DVD case
Touchscreen (Touch-screen):  Fields circled in colour on the touch-
screen are presently “active” and are operated by touching the 
screen.
Eject key    – press briefly to move an inserted CD/DVD into the 
position ready for removal.   – repeats the last navigation announcement.
Setting up button
− RADIO mode  – turn for manual station adjustment; – press briefly 
to start or stop the automatic play mode (Scan).
− MEDIA-Mode  – turn to change track; – press briefly to start or 
stop the automatic play mode (Scan) when in audio mode.
− Tu r n   map display (MAP)  – in order to change the map scale; – 
press briefly for repeating a na vigation announcement during 
active route guidance.
− Navigation  – press briefly to repeat  a navigation announcement 
during active route guidance.
Memory card case : SD memory cards (“Secure Digital Memory 
Cards”) and MMC-memory cards (“Multimedia Cards”) measuring 32 
mm x 24 mm x 2.1 mm and with a capacity of up to 2 GB are available. 
The case for the memory card  is located under the screen.

Range selector key TONESound settings By pressing the button  , you can  select the following parameters:•
 - Setting of height, middle and depth;
•
 - Volume ratio (left and right = balance), (front and rear = fader);
•
 - ,  ,  , 
 and   * - Swi tch on v olume ,  volume of traffic announce-
ments, telephone calls and the parking aid;
•
 - Speed dependent volume adaptation;
•
 - switching on or off the confirmation tone when operating 
the screen;
•
* - Activating the external DVD source;
•
* - Selecting the program type (lin ear, language, rock, classical, 
dance);
•
* - setting of the surround-sound.
GALA function
Your radio increases automatically its volu me with the increasing vehicle speed. A 
higher setting value results in a stronger volume increase.
Volume decrease for park distance control (PDC) *
If your vehicle is equipped with “parki ng aid”, the volume is automatically 
decreased to a pre-defined value, wh en the “parking aid” is active.
Navigation announcements  – audible driving recommendations from  the navigation system are played 
during the audio operation at a pre-set volume.
 – audible driving recommendations are only provided when you have left 
the calculated route, for example on the  basis of announced traffic problems. This 
setting is recommended if audible drive  recommendations are normally no longer 
needed for a daily driven route and navigati on is only used as dynamic navigation. 
If an audible driving recommendation is transmitted again on the basis of a change  in route, navigation announcements mu
st be switched on again (Display: 
).
 – no audible driving recommendations  of the navigation system will be 
transmitted.

12Selector key SETUPMain menu set-ups (Setup)– Press the selector key   to open the main menu  Set-ups.Overview of the set-up menus
 – When in the radio mode, carry out set-ups for the function of the arrow 
keys , for the displayed memory keys, the memory list and the TMC traffic reports 
⇒ page 12, “Radio set-ups”.
 – Carry out set-ups for the map display and select symbols for the display in 
the map  ⇒page 13, “Map set-ups”.
 – Select preferred TMC station and determine the area for TMC 
announcements  ⇒page 13, “Traffic station set-ups”.
 – Adjust the brightness of the touc h-screen, day/night design of the map 
display and select/deselect the confirmation tone for the key depression stroke 
⇒ page 14, “Touch-screen set-ups”.
 – Determine the set-ups for the play and display of MP3 data and activate

 – Determine the set-ups for receiving driving recommendations, define 
or change an address to a home address and start a virtual demonstration drive

 – Change the system set-ups such as voice response and time and take 
back or erase stored set-ups in individual areas  ⇒page 15, “System set-ups”.
 – Carry out set-ups for voice response with an inserted Video DVD and 
adjust the aspect ratio of the touch-screen.  It is also possible to adjust the audio 
video standard  ⇒page 16, “Video set-ups”when operating an external media 
source as well as carrying out  the set-ups for the TV operation.
   – Update the phone book in the unit, erase all call lists and modify the 
assignment of the shortcut keys  ⇒page 16, “Phone set-ups”.
Radio set-upsCall up the menu  Radio set-ups by pressing the selector key   and 
the function key   on  ⇒fig. 5 .
Determining the station selection via the 
– Press on the   or  , to determine from which list  in the radio mode the stations are to be selected with the arrow keys. 
If the   is selected, only stor ed stations from the memory 
list are called up. “ Memory” is displayed at the top left in the main 
menu  RADIO .
Select station keys for display 
– In the pop-up window, select the st ation keys to be displayed in the 
main menu  RADIO.

A tick in the check box 
 indicates that the traffic radio function is already switched 
on.
Touch-screen set-upsCall up the menu  Touch-screen set-ups  by pressing the selector key 
 and the function key  .
Brightness
– Press on the function key behind   and select a setting 
in the pop-up window.
– Press the function key   if the  brightness of the touch-screen 
should automatically be adapted to  the current light conditions via the 
sensors on the unit.
– Press one of the other function keys to manually adjust the brightness  of the touch-screen.
Day/Night
– Press on the function key behind   and select a setting in the  pop-up window.
– Press the function key   if switching the headlights on and off  should also change the map display from night to day design.
– Press the function key   or   to manually determine the night  and day design of the map display.
Confirmation tone
– Press on the function key behind   and select a 
setting in the pop-up window. – Press   or   to switch the tone for confirmation of a function key 
operation on the touch-screen on or off.
Note
Please note that manual adjustment of  the touch-screen in unfavourable condi-
tions can lead to the displays in the touc h-screen no longer being clearly visible.Media set-upsCall up the menu Media set-ups by pressing the selector key   and 
the function key  .
– Activate the check boxes before entering details

Function keys in the menu – Media set-ups
 – for the playback of an optional external audio* or video source*, 
if a TV tuner is installed.
 –  for the playback of  an external audio source*.
 - Setting of the input sensitivity for an external source*.  – according to the set-ups the title and performer name 
or only the data and folder name will be displayed for audio CDs with CD texts and 
in the MP3 operation.
 – plays all MP3 data one after the other 
according to the sequence on the played medium, which are stored in the folders 
and sub-folders.
* - enables a wireless transfer of MP3 data to the telephone 
preinstallation.

Changing system set-ups
– Press on one of the function keys and select the desired setting in the pop-up window.
– You will therefore set a voice response for the spoken text and the  displays in the touch-screen, chan ge the distance and temperature 
setting or the time and date format.
Resetting the factory settings on the unit
– Press on the function key   in the menu System set-ups .
– Now find the settings you wish to reset.
– If you press on the function key   and confirm the following  safety interrogation the selected settings will reset the factory settings 
and all the stored data will be erased.
Time display*
– Press on the function key   in the menu System set-ups .
– Time display in the operating modes radio, media and map.“ Time ” and “ Date” settings need only be carr ied out manually under certain 
circumstances. Time and date will norma lly be accepted automatically from the 
vehicle into the unit.Video set-upsVideo set-ups  is called up by pressing the selector key   and the 
function key  .
Changing voice response
– Press the function key  ,  or   in 
the menu  Video set-ups  and select the desired language in the pop-up 
window. – Pressing   will fully switch 
off the display of sub-titles.
Changing the aspect ratio of the touch-screen display
– The currently set aspect ratio is visible behind the function key  .
– Press on the function key   and on   or   in the pop- up window. All video data will now be replayed in the set aspect ratio.
Set-ups for vehicles with TV tuner
If a TV tuner is connected to  the unit, you will find here further set-up possibilities.Phone set-upsCall up the menu Phone set-ups by pressing the selector key   and 
the function key  .
Updating phone data in the unit
– Press on the function key   to update all entries in 
the unit, the phone book of the mobile phone or the SIM card entered 
since the last connection. This  procedure can take a few minutes.
– Confirm the following safety interrogation. The “old” data in the  phone book can still be selected at the unit while the data is being 
updated.
Deleting call lists
– Press the function key  .
– If you confirm the following safe ty interrogation by pressing  , 
the stored call numbers of all calls  made and calls accepted in the unit 
will be deleted.

Modifying assigned shortcut keys
– Press the function key   to modify the assigned shortcut  keys.
– To change the assignment of a particular shortcut key, select the  respective shortcut key by pressing the key in the following menu.
Note
The selection possibilities of the phone set-up depend on the relevant telephone 
preinstallation.

– Press on the selector key   to call up the main menu  Navigation.
– Press on the function key   to call up the menu New 
destination.Information regarding destination selection
A travel destination is only taken over into the destination memory if route guid-
ance to this travel destination has been started once or if the travel destination has 
been directly stored in the destination memory. The destination information 
already provided will be forgotten if, for  example, it has been changed over to a 
different type of destination selection.
New route guidance is started with the function key  . The display of the func-
tion key changes to  . Route guidance can  be terminated by pressing this func-
tion key.
New destination: Select  a new travel destination
 – Address entry via an input mask  for selecting a destination address 
⇒ page 42.
 – opens a search mask to search for a  special destination from a certain cate-
gory or by entering a name or a phone number. You will determine the current loca-
tion of a search area, enter a town or select a point on the map. During route guid-
ance you can also determine a point along the route or the destination area as a 
search area  ⇒page 43.
 – Select a point on the map as a travel destination  ⇒page 44.
New destination: Selecting a travel de stination from the destination memory
 – select a previously entered and stored home address as destination – or 
define home address.  – open the list of the last travel
led destination and start route guid-
ance to one of the displayed tr avel destinations by pressing ⇒page 45 – or store 
the displayed Last destinations.
 – open the list of the stored travel destinations which have previously 
been defined as “Favourite destinations” ands start route guidance to one of the 
defined travel destinations by pressing  ⇒page 45 – or processing “Favourites”.
 – open list of the stored travel destinations and start route 
guidance to one of the defined travel destinations  ⇒page 45 – or modify “Destina-
tion memory”.
Selecting a destination addressIn the menu  New destination , press on the function key  .
Selecting a destination address
– Select the destination address in the menu  Address entry.
– Press on one of the left function keys  ,  ,  ,    or  , to open the correspond ing input mask. A destination 
address must always be selected in  the displayed sequence, first of all 
the country, then the town and so on.
– If the information is sufficent fo r route guidance, the function key 
 will be active.
Changing the displayed destination address
– If a travel destination has previously  been defined, it will be displayed 
in the menu  Address entry . You need then only change the entries 
differing from the desired destination address.Further function keys

Selecting special destinations as a travel destinationIn the menu New destination , press on the function key  . When in the 
menu  Special destination search  you determine the options for the 
search of a special destination.
 Selecting a special destination category
– If you are searching for a special type of destination, for example a  hotel, press   and select a ma in category by pressing the 
respective key in the following menu.
– After selecting a main category, a list of selectable special destination  categories will open. Press   to switch back to a main category after 
viewing a sub-category.
– Alternatively, press the function key  , 
to display all selectable speciall de stination categories in alphabetic 
order in a list.
–  This special destination category is now displayed in the menu  Special destination search . You can find an overview of all selectable 
special destination categories  at the end of this chapter.
Determining the search area
– Press   to determine the area to be searched for a special  destination.
Determining further search options
– If you are searching for a special de stination, for example a hotel, and 
you know its name or phone number, press the function key   
or . Starting the search
– If you have completed your entries 
in the search mask, press on the 
function key  . A pop-up window will open and a special desti-
nation, which corresponds to the selected options, will be searched 
for within a surrounding area of maximum 200 kilometers.
– Press the function key   to interrupt the search over the  displayed distance of the respective area and to display one or more 
search results.
– If you press the function key   the search will be terminated  without a display.
Selecting a special destinat ion from the search results
– If only one special destination wa s found which corresponds to the 
pre-selected options, the  Information window special destination  will 
open.
– If several special destinations were found, they will first of all be  displayed in a list. At the top of the list you can find the special desti-
nations closest to the entered search area (distance and direction 
information refer to linear distance). If you press on the display of a 
special destination in the list, the  Information window special desti-
nation will open.
Information window - Special destination
– Here you will find further informat ion, e.g. the exact address and 
phone number of the selected special destination.
– Press   in the “Information window special destination” to start  route guidance to the displayed special destination.
– Press the function key  , to store the displayed special destination.
– Press the function key   or   to display further special destinations  from the list if several special destinations were found.

– Press the function key  , to display the current vehicle position and the selected special destination in the map display.Search area options
You can call up the menu  Select search area by pressing the function key 
.
You can determine where to search for a special destination by selecting the menu 
Select search area . If you call up the menu, the search area is set to the current loca-
tion.
 – If a travel destination is selected, you can select the surrounding 
area of this travel destination as a search area for the special destination.
 – Limits the search for a special destination to the surrounding area of the 
current location (standard setting).
 – Use the input masks to enter the town where you intend to search for a 
special destination in the surrounding area.
 – Move a crosshair to choose a point on the map in the 
surrounding area where you intend to sear ch for a special destination. Proceed as 
described in chapter “Select travel destination from the map”.
 – During current route guidance the search for a special destination 
is limited to the surrounding area of the calculated route.
Further options for special destination search
 – You can search for a particular special destination by entering a name.
 – You can search for a particular sp ecial destination via the entry of a 
phone number. Please enter only the phone number, without a city or country 
code.
 Selecting travel destination from the map
– When in the menu  New destination, press the function key  . 
The last travel destination for whic h route guidance was started will be 
shown in the map display. If no trav el destination was arrived at, the 
current location will be displayed in an overview map. – Turn button   to zoom in and out 
of the map and/or to change the 
map scale. Press the function key   or  .
– Keep pressing on the map display and do not stop. The crosshair will  follow your movements. If  you move the crosshair to the edge of the 
screen, the adjoining map section will appear after a few seconds. The 
geo-position (position display via coordinates) or the street name for 
the current position of the crosshair will be displayed at the top of the 
touchscreen.
– If the desired travel destination or  destination area is displayed, press 
the function key  . Route guid ance will start automatically.
– Press the function key  , if you wish to store the displayed desti- nation.
Determining a map destination more accurately
You can further restrict a travel destinatio n selected from the map display later on 
in the menu  Address entry . For this purpose press the selector key   after the 
start of route guidance to change fr om the map display to the main menu  Naviga-
tion . Here you can press the function key   to terminate route guidance. If you 
now change into the menu  Address entry, the travel destination selected in the map 
will be displayed in the form of an ad dress and can be determined there more 
precisely.
On the other hand you can use the menu  Address entry to determine the area to be 
displayed in the map display as a destination selection.
Further function keys in the map display
 – briefly switches the map display to the overview display (large scale). After a 
few seconds it will switch back automatically to the last selected zoom display 
(smaller scale).
 – opens a menu for entering a trav el destination via its coordinates.
 – stores the travel destination selected from the map in the destination 
memory.
