WARNING■ To avoid operating the cruise control by mistake
Switch the cruise control off using the “ON-OFF” button when no t in use.
■ Situations unsuitable for cruise control
Do not use cruise control in any of the following situations.
Doing so may result in loss of control and could cause an accident resulting
in death or serious injury.
● In heavy traffic
● On roads with sharp bends
● On winding roads
● On slippery roads, such as those covered with rain, ice or snow
● On steep hills
Vehicle speed may exceed the set speed when driving down a stee p hill.
● During emergency towing

If your vehicle needs to be towed
Before towing
The following may indicate a problem with your transmission. Co ntact
your Toyota dealer before towing.
● The engine is running, but t he vehicle will not move.
● The vehicle makes an abnormal sound.
Emergency towing
If a tow truck is not available in an emergency, your vehicle m ay be
temporarily towed using a cable or chain secured to the emergen cy
towing eyelet. This should only be attempted on hard surfaced r oads
for short distances at low speeds.
A driver must be in the vehicle to steer and operate the brakes . The
vehicle’s wheels, drive train, axles, steering and brakes must be in
good condition.
For vehicles with an automatic transmission, only the front tow ing
eyelet may be used. If towing is necessary, we recommen d having your vehicle towed by
your Toyota dealer or a commerci al towing service, using a lift -type
truck or a flat bed truck.
Use a safety chain system for all towing, and abide by all stat e/pro-
vincial and local laws.
If towing from the rear, the vehicle's front wheels and axles m ust be
in good condition. (  P. 391)
If they are damaged, use a to wing dolly or flat bed truck.

■ Before emergency towing
Release the parking brake.
Shift the shift lever to N.
Vehicles without a smart key system: Turn the engine switch to the
“ACC” (engine off) or “ON” (engine running) position.
Vehicles with a smart key system: Turn the “ENGINE START
STOP” switch to ACCESSORY (engine off) or IGNITION ON
(engine running) mode.
■ If towing a vehicle
Do not tow another vehicle. If towing a vehicle that has broken down is
unavoidable, avoid towing a vehicle that is heavier than your v ehicle. Also,
do not pull out a vehicle that has fallen into a ditch.
WARNING
■ Caution while towing
● Use extreme caution when towing the vehicle.
Avoid sudden starts or erratic driving maneuvers which place ex cessive
stress on the emergency towing eyelets and the cables or chains. Always
be cautious of the surroundings and other vehicles while towing .
● If the engine is not running, the power assist for the brakes a nd steering
will not function, making steering and braking more difficult. STEP 1

If you have a flat tire Your vehicle is equipped with a spare tire. The flat tire can b e
replaced with the spare tire.
■ Before jacking up the vehicle
● Stop the vehicle in a safe place on a hard, flat surface.
● Set the parking brake.
● Shift the shift lever to P (vehicles with an automatic transmis -
sion) or R (vehicles with a manual transmission).
● Stop the engine.
● Turn on the emergency flashers. (  P. 3 8 4 )

NOTICE■
Do not drive the vehic le with a flat tire.
Do not continue drivi ng with a flat tire.
Driving even a short distance wi th a flat tire can damage the t ire and the
wheel beyond repair.■
Be careful when driving over bumps with the compact spare tire
installed on the vehicle.
The vehicle becomes lower when d riving with the compact spare t ire
compared to when driving with standard tires. Be careful when d riving
over uneven road surfaces.■
Driving with tire chains and the compact spare tire
Do not fit tire chains to t he compact spare tire.
Tire chains may damage the vehicle body and adversely affect dr iving
performance.■
When replacing the tires
When removing or fitting the wheels, tires or the tire pressure warning
valve and transmitter, contact yo ur Toyota dealer as the tire p ressure
warning valve and transmitter ma y be damaged if n ot handled cor rectly.
■
To avoid damage to the tire pressure warning valves and transmi t-
ters
When a tire is repaired with liquid sealants, the tire pressure warning
valve and transmitter may not operate properly. If a liquid sea lant is
used, contact your Toyota dealer or other qualified service sho p as soon
as possible. Make sure to replace the tire pressure warning val ve and
transmitter when replacing the tire. (  P. 3 4 6 )

Stowing the jack
When stowing the jack in the jack holder, make sure that the pa rt that the
jack handle attaches to is pointing towards the inside of the t runk. Failure
to do so may damage the vehicle body.

WARNING■ When attempting to free a stuck vehicle
If you choose to push the vehicle back and forth to free it, ma ke sure the sur-
rounding area is clear to avoid striking other vehicles, object s or people. The
vehicle may also lunge forward or lunge back suddenly as it bec omes free.
Use extreme caution.
■ When shifting the shift lever
For vehicles with an automatic transmission, be careful not to shift the shift
lever with the accelerator pedal depressed.
This may lead to unexpected rapid acceleration of the vehicle t hat may
cause an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
NOTICE■ To avoid damage to the trans mission and other components
● Avoid spinning the rear wheels and depressing the accelerator p edal more
than necessary.
● If the vehicle remains stuck even after these procedures are performed,
the vehicle may require towing to be freed.
