When trouble arises
If any of the following messages are displayed, have the vehicle
inspected by any authorized Toyota de aler or repairer, or another duly
qualified and equipped professi onal as soon as possible.
When parking, park the vehicle on level ground and firmly set the
parking brake.
■If “P lock malfunction. When park ing, park in flat place and
apply parking brake securely” is displayed
Indicates the following:
● The parking lock mechanism may not operate. Also, changing
the shift position to P may not be possible.
● The hybrid system may not be able to be started.
● The power switch may not be able to be turned off.
If the power switch cannot be turned off, set the parking brake and
then operate the power switch to turn it off.
■If “Shift system failure. When parking, apply parking brake.
Read Owner’s Manual.” is displayed
Refer to “P lock malfunction. Wh en parking, park in flat place and
apply parking brake securely.”.
■If “Shift system comm. failure . When parking, apply parking
brake. Read Owner’s Manual.” is displayed
Indicates that the automatic P po sition selection function may not
be operating.
Before turning the power switch off, press the P position switch.
Verify that the shift position has been changed to P by checking the
shift position indicators.
■If “12-volt battery low. When parking, apply parking brake.
Read Owner’s Manual.” is displayed
Indicates the following:
● 12-volt battery may not be charged sufficiently.
● Changing the shift position to P may not be possible.
● The hybrid system may not be able to be started.
Charge or replace the 12-volt batt ery. After charging the 12-volt bat-
tery, the message may be displayed until the shift position is
changed from P.
If caution about parking is necessary

If any of the following messages are displayed, take the appropriate
actions as shown below:
■If “Press brake when vehicle is stopped. Hybrid system may
overheat.” is displayed
Message is displayed when the accelerator pedal is depressed to
maintain the vehicle position when stopped on an upward slope,
etc.
If this continues, the hybrid sy stem may overheat. Release the
accelerator pedal and depress the brake pedal.
■If “Hybrid battery low. Hybrid system stopped. Shift to P and
restart.” is displayed
Message is displayed when the remaining charge for the hybrid
battery (traction battery) is low, because vehicle has been shifted N
for a long period of time.
When operating the vehicle, re start the hybrid system.
■If “Hybrid system malfunction. Stop in a safe place. See
owner’s manual.” is displayed
Refer to “If a message instructing to refer to the Owner’s Manual is
displayed”. ( P. 504)

battery) is displayed

■If “Hybrid battery low. Shift out of N to recharge.” is displayed
Message is displayed when the remaining charge for the hybrid
battery (traction battery) is low.
As the hybrid battery (traction battery) cannot be charged when the
shift position is in N, when stopped for long periods of time change
the shift position to P.
■If “Hybrid system overheated. Reduced output power.” is dis-
played
This message may be displayed wh en driving under severe operat-
ing conditions.
(For example, when driving up a long steep hill.)
Handling method: P. 5 4 4
■If “Maintenance required for hybrid battery cooling parts at
your dealer.” is displayed
The filter may be clogged, the ai r intake vent may be blocked or
there may be a gap in the duct. Have maintenance performed on
the hybrid battery (traction batt ery) cooling component at any
authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.

●If any of the following messages are displayed, take the appropriate
actions as shown on the following pages in this Owner’s Manual:
• “12-volt battery low. Shifting unavailable. Read Owner’s Man-
ual.”: P. 500
• “Shift system failure. When pa rking, apply parking brake. Read
owner’s manual.”: P. 5 0 1
• “Shift system comm. failure. W hen parking, apply parking brake.
Read owner’s manual.”: P. 501
• “12-volt battery low. When park ing, apply parking brake. Read
Owner’s Manual.”: P. 501
● If the following messages are displayed, there may be a malfunc-
tion.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact any autho-
rized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
• “Brake effectiveness is reduced due to failure, please stop in a
safe area and check manual.”
• “Hybrid system malf unction. Stop in a safe place. See owner’s
manual.”
● If the following message is displayed, there may be a malfunction.
Immediately have the vehicle in spected by any authorized Toyota
dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped profes-
sional.
• “Shift system failure. Read Owner’s Manual.”
If a message instructing to refer to the Owner’s Manual is dis-

When trouble arises
Take the appropriate actions as instructed in the message displayed.
If any of the following messages are displayed, also refer to this
Owner’s Manual.
■If “Check charging system.” is displayed
Indicates a malfunction in t he vehicle's charging system.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact any autho-
rized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
■If “Engine oil pressure low.” is displayed
Indicates that the engine oil pressure is too low.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and contact any autho-
rized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional.
■When “Headlight system malfunction. Visit your dealer.” is
displayed on the multi-information display (if equipped)
The following systems may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle
inspected by any autho rized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another
duly qualified and equipped professional immediately.
● The LED headlight system
● The automatic headlight leveling system
● Automatic High Beam
■If “Front sensor systems are temporarily unavailable due to
inappropriate temp. Wait a moment.” or “Front Camera Vision
Blocked Clean and Demist Wi ndshield.” is displayed (if
equipped)
The following systems may be suspended until the problem shown
in the message is resolved.
● PCS (Pre-Crash Safety system)
● LDA (Lane Departure Alert)
● Automatic High Beam
● RSA (Road Sign Assist)

■If “Shift to P before exiting vehicle.” is displayed
Message is displayed when the driver’s door is opened without
turning the power switch to off with the shift position in any position
other than P.
Change the shift position to P.
■If “Shift is in N. Release accel erator before shifting.” is dis-
played
Message is displayed when the accelerator pedal has been
depressed and the shift position is in N.
Release the accelerator pedal and change the shift position to D or
R.
■ System warning lights
In the following situations, the master warning light will not come on or flash.
Instead, a separate system warning light will come on along with a message
displayed on the multi-information display.
● Malfunction of the brake system
The brake system warning light will come on. ( P. 491)
● High engine coolant temperature
The high engine coolant temperature warning light will be displayed.
( P. 491)
■ Warning buzzer
In some cases, the buzzer may not be heard because of noisy place or an
audio sound.

When trouble arises
●Stop the vehicle in a safe place on a hard, flat surface.
● Set the parking brake.
● Shift the shift position to P.
● Stop the hybrid system.
● Turn on the emergency flashers. (P. 482)
If you have a flat tire (vehicles with a spare
tire)
Your vehicle is equipped with a spare tire. The flat tire can be
replaced with the spare tire.

WARNING
■If you have a flat tire
Do not continue driving with a flat tire.
Driving even a short distance with a flat tire can damage the tire and the
wheel beyond repair, which could result in an accident.

WARNING
■ Using the tire jack
Observe the following precautions.
Improper use of the tire jack may cause the vehicle to suddenly fall off the
jack, leading to death or serious injury.
● Do not use the tire jack for any purpose other than replacing tires or install-
ing and removing tire chains.
● Only use the tire jack that comes with this vehicle for replacing a flat tire.
Do not use it on other vehicles, and do not use other tire jacks for replac-
ing tires on this vehicle.
● Put the jack properly in its jack point.
● Do not put any part of your body under the vehicle while it is supported by
the jack.
● Do not start the hybrid system or drive the vehicle while the vehicle is sup-
ported by the jack.
● Do not raise the vehicle while someone is inside.
● When raising the vehicle, do not put an object on or under the jack.
● Do not raise the vehicle to a height greater than that required to replace
the tire.
● Use a jack stand if it is necessary to get under the vehicle.
● When lowering the vehicle, make sure that there is no-one near the vehi-
cle. If there are people nearby, warn them vocally before lowering.
