Do not apply heat directly to the parts in the ECU.
3. WATER SPRINKLING METHOD: When the malfunc-
tion seems to occur on a rainy day or in high±humid-
ity.
(a) Sprinkle water onto the vehicle and check if the malfunc-
tion occurs.
NOTICE:

Never sprinkle water directly onto the engine
compartment, but indirectly change the temperature
and humidity by spraying a mist of water onto the ra-
diator front surface.

Never apply water directly onto the electronic compo-
nents.
HINT:
If a vehicle is subject to water leakage, the leaking water may
contaminate the ECU. When testing a vehicle with a water leak-
age problem, this factor must also be considered.
4. OTHERS: If the malfunction seems to occur when
electrical load is excessive.
(a) Turn on all the electrical equipment including the heater
blower, headlights, rear window defogger, etc., and check
if the malfunction occurs.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1PREPARE FOR INSPECTION
(a)Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b)Disconnect the negative (±) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c)Disconnect the connectors of the airbag sensor assy center (See page 60±62).
2 CHECK SOURCE VOLTAGE
(a) Connect the negative (±) terminal cable to the battery, and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(b) Measure the voltage between E1 (E2) and IG2 on the air- bag sensor assy center side and operate electric system
(defogger, wiper, headlight, heater blower, etc.).
OK:
Voltage: 10 to 14 V
NG REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS BETWEEN BATTERY AND AIRBAG SENSOR ASSY
CENTER, AND CHARGING SYSTEM
OK
3 CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT TURN OFF
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (±) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Connect the airbag sensor assy center connectors.
(d) Connect the negative (±) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(e) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 10 sec\
onds.
(f) Operate electric system (defogger, wiper, headlight, heater blower, etc.) and check that SRS warning light goes off.
OK:
SRS warning light does not come on.

SECURITY INDICATOR CIRCUIT
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Even in the disarmed state, the security indicator flashes due to a signal output from the immobiliser system.
The security indicator always flashes when it receives a signal from the immobiliser system at any time in
the armed state.
The theft warning ECU causes the security indicator to light up or blink only during the customizing function
mode or the add mode of the transmitter.
WIRING DIAGRAM
INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1 CHECK REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER SWITCH ASSY (SECURITY INDICATOR)
(a) Remove the defogger switch.
(b) Apply 12 V positive voltage between each terminal of the
defogger switch connector, and check the lighting condi-
tion of the security indicator.
Standard:

NOTICE:

If the positive (+) lead and the negative (±) lead are in-
correctly connected, the security indicator does not
light up.

Voltage of more than 12 V will damage the security in-
dicator.

not light up.

1. CHECK BATTERY ELECTROLYTE LEVEL
(a) Check the electrolyte quantity of each cell.
(1) If the electrolyte is under the low level, replace the battery (or add distilled water if possible) and
check the charging system.
2. CHECK BATTERY VOLTAGE
(a) If it has not been 20 minutes since you drove the vehicle
or since the engine was stopped, turn the ignition switch
and the electrical system (headlight, blower motor, rear
defogger etc.) to the on position for 60 seconds. This will
remove the surface charge on the battery.
(b) Turn off the ignition switch and the electrical systems.
(c) Measure the battery voltage between the negative (±)
and positive (+) terminals of the battery.
Standard voltage: 12.5 to 12.9 V at 20C (68F)
HINT:
If the voltage is less than specification, charge the battery.
(d) Check the indicator as shown in the illustration.
HINT:

3. CHECK BATTERY TERMINALS, FUSIBLE LINK AND FUSES
(a) Check that the battery terminals are not loosened or corroded.
(b) Check the fusible links, high±current fuses and regular fuses.
4. INSPECT DRIVE BELT
(a) Visually check the belt for excessive wear, frayed cords
etc.
HINT:

If any defect found, replace the drive belt.

Cracks on the rib side of a belt are considered acceptable.
If the belt has chunks missing from the ribs, it should be
replaced.
