General maintenance

tion, please refer to the separate

Maintenance requirements
Your Toyota vehicle has been designed to
for fewer maintenance requirements with
longer service intervals to save both your
time and money. However, each regular
maintenance, as well as day±to±day care,
is more important than ever before to en-
sure smooth, trouble±free, safe, and eco-
nomical drivings.
It is the owner 's responsibility to make
sure the specified maintenance, including
general maintenance service, is performed.
Note that both the new vehicle and emis-
sion control system warranties specify that
proper maintenance and care must be per-
formed. See ºOwner 's Warranty Informa-
tion Bookletº or ºOwner 's Manual Supple-
mentº.
General maintenance
General maintenance items are those day±
to±day care practices that are important to
your vehicle for proper operation. It is the
owner 's responsibility to insure that the
general maintenance items are performed
regularly.
These checks or inspections can be done
either by yourself or a qualified technician,
or if you prefer, your Toyota dealer will be
pleased to do them at a nominal cost.Scheduled maintenance
The scheduled maintenance items listed in
the ºScheduled Maintenance Guideº or
ºOwner 's Manual Supplementº are those
required to be serviced at regular inter-
vals.
For details of your maintenance schedule,
read the separate ºScheduled Maintenance
Guideº or ºOwner 's Manual Supplementº.
It is recommended that any replacement
parts used for maintenance or for the
repair of the emission control system
be Toyota supplied.
The owner may elect to use non±Toyota
supplied parts for replacement pur-
poses without invalidating the emission
control system warranty. However, use
of replacement parts which are not of
equivalent quality may impair the effec-
tiveness of the emission control sys-
tems.
You may also elect to have mainte-
nance, replacement, or repair of the
emission control devices and system
performed by any automotive repair es-
tablishment or individual without invali-
dating this warranty. See ºOwner's War-
ranty Information Bookletº or ºOwner's
Manual Supplementº for complete war-
ranty information.

Maintaining your vehicle according to the recommendations in
this booklet is required to ensure that your warranty coverage
remains in force. You should keep detailed records of vehicle
maintenance, including date of service, mileage at time of ser-
vice and a description of service and/or parts installation
performed. The Scheduled Maintenance Log in this booklet is
a good place to record this information. If you sell your vehicle,
be sure to give your maintenance records to the new owner.
Toyota will not deny a warranty claim solely because you do
not have records to show that you maintained your vehicle.
However, damage or failures caused by lack of proper mainte-
nance are not covered under warranty.
Maintenance and repair services may be performed by you or
by any automotive service provider you choose. Toyota will
not deny a warranty claim solely because you used a service
provider other than a Toyota dealership for maintenance and
repairs. However, damage or failures caused by improper mainte-
nance or repairs are not covered under warranty.Your dealer may recommend more frequent maintenance intervals
or more maintenance services than those listed in the Scheduled
Maintenance Log. These additional services are not required to
maintain your warranty coverage. Ask your dealer for an expla-
nation of any recommended maintenance not included in the
Scheduled Maintenance Log.

Determining Your Vehicle’s Maintenance Needs
Special Operating Conditions
In addition to standard maintenance items, the Scheduled
Maintenance Log indicates services that should be performed
on vehicles that are driven under especially demanding condi-
tions. Specific conditions require specific services, as indicated
below. The Scheduled Maintenance Log indicates at which
mileage/time intervals each service should be performed.
You should perform these additional maintenance services if
you drive
primarilyunder any of the conditions noted. If you
drive only occasionally under these conditions, it is not neces-
sary to perform the additional services.
Driving on Rough, Muddy or Snow-Melted Roads
•Rotate tires
•Inspect ball joints and dust cover
