Warning and indicator
lamps
Displayed as symbols, the warning and indicator lamps inform the driver of the occurrence of a malfunction (warning lamps) or of the operating status of a system (operation or deactivation indicator lamps). Certain lamps light up in two ways (fixed or flashing) and/or in several colours.
Associated warnings
The illumination of a lamp may be accompanied by an audible signal and/or a message displayed in a screen.
Relating the type of alert to the operating status of the vehicle allows you to determine whether the situation is normal or whether a fault has
occurred: refer to the description of each lamp for further information.
When the ignition is switched on
Certain red or orange warning lamps come on for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on. These warning lamps should go off as soon as the engine is started.For more information on a system or a function, refer to the corresponding section.
Warning lamp continuously

The illumination of a red or orange warning lamp indicates the occurrence of a fault that needs further investigation.
If a warning lamp remains lit
The references (1), (2) and (3) in the warning and indicator lamp description indicate whether you should contact a qualified professional in addition to the immediate recommended actions.(1): You must stop the vehicle.
Stop as soon as it is safe to do so and switch off the ignition.(2): Contact a TOYOTA dealer or a qualified workshop.(3): Visit a TOYOTA dealer or a qualified workshop.
List of warning and

Engine coolant temperature

With the engine running, when the needle or bar graph (depending on version) is:– in zone A, the engine coolant temperature is correct,– in zone B, the engine coolant temperature is too high; the maximum temperature and central STOP warning lamps come on, accompanied by an audible signal and a warning message.
You MUST stop as soon as it is safe to do so.Wait a few minutes before switching off the engine.Contact a TOYOTA dealer or a qualified workshop.
Checking
After driving for a few minutes, the temperature and pressure in the cooling system increase.To top up the level:► wait at least one hour for the engine to cool,► unscrew the cap by two turns to allow the pressure to drop,► when the pressure has dropped, remove the cap,► top up the level to the "MAX" mark.For more information on Checking levels, refer to the corresponding section.
WARNI NG
Be aware of the risk of scalding when topping up the coolant. Do not fill above the maximum level (indicated on the reservoir).
Engine oil level indicator
On versions fitted with an electric oil gauge, the state of the engine oil level is displayed on the instrument panel for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on, at the same time as the servicing information.
NOTIC E
The level read will only be correct if the vehicle is on level ground and the engine has been off for more than 30 minutes.

panel.If the low oil level is confirmed by a check using the dipstick, the level must be topped up to avoid damaging the engine.

AdBlue® range indicators
The Diesel engines are equipped with a system that associates the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) emissions control system and the Diesel particle filter (DPF) for the treatment of exhaust gases. They cannot function without AdBlue®fluid.When the level of AdBlue® falls below the reserve level (between 2,400 and 0 km (1,500 miles and 0 miles)), a warning lamp lights up when the ignition is switched on and an estimate of the distance that can be travelled before engine starting is prevented is displayed in the
instrument panel.
WARNI NG
The engine starting prevention system required by regulations is activated
automatically once the AdBlue® tank is empty. It is then no longer possible to start the engine until the minimum level of AdBlue® has been topped up.
Manual display of the range
While the driving range is greater than 2,400 km (1,500 miles), it is not displayed automatically.

Actions required related to a lack of AdBlue®
The following warning lamps light up when the quantity of AdBlue® is lower than the reserve level corresponding to a range of 2,400 km (1,500 miles).Together with the warning lamps, messages regularly remind you of the need to top up to avoid engine starting being prevented. Refer to the Warning and indicator lamps section for details of the messages displayed.

Compatibility of fuels
Petrol fuels conforming to the EN228 standard containing up to 5% and 10% ethanol respectively.
Diesel fuels conforming to the EN590, EN16734 and EN16709 standards and containing up to 7%, 10%, 20% and 30% fatty acid methyl ester respectively. The use of B20 or B30 fuels, even occasionally, imposes special maintenance conditions referred to as "Arduous conditions".
Paraffinic Diesel fuel conforming to the EN15940 standard.
WARNI NG
The use of any other type of (bio) fuel (vegetable or animal oils, pure or diluted, domestic fuel, etc.) is strictly prohibited (risk of damage to the engine and fuel system).

The only fuel additives authorised for use are those that meet the B715001 (petrol) or B715000 (Diesel) standards.
Diesel at low temperature
At temperatures below 0 °C (+32 °F), the formation of paraffins in summer-type Diesel fuels could prevent the engine from operating correctly. In these temperature conditions, use winter-type Diesel fuel and keep the fuel tank more than 50 % full.At temperatures below -15 °C (+5 °F) to avoid problems starting, it is best to park the vehicle under shelter (heated garage).
Travelling abroad
Certain fuels could damage your vehicle’s engine.In certain countries, the use of a particular fuel may be required (specific octane rating, specific trade name, etc.) to ensure correct operation of the engine.For all additional information, consult a dealer.
Refuelling
Fuel tank capacity: approximately 61 litres (petrol) or 50 litres (Diesel).Reserve level: approximately 6 litres.
Low fuel level

1 1When the low fuel level is reached, this warning lamp comes on on the instrument panel, accompanied by an onscreen message and an audible signal. When it first
comes on, about 6 litres of fuel remain in the tank.Until sufficient fuel is added, this warning lamp appears every time the ignition is switched on, accompanied by an onscreen message and an audible signal. When driving, this message and audible signal are repeated with increasing frequency as the fuel level drops towards 0.You must refuel as soon as possible to avoid running out of fuel.For more information on Running out of fuel (Diesel), refer to the corresponding section.

Stop & StartNever refuel with the engine in STOP mode; you must switch off the ignition.
Refuelling
At least 10 litres of fuel must be added, in order to be registered by the fuel gauge.
Opening the filler cap may create a noise caused by an inrush of air. This is entirely normal and results from the sealing of the fuel system.To refuel in complete safety:► Always switch off the engine.► Unlock the vehicle using the Keyless Entry and Starting.► Open the fuel filler flap.

► Pull the release lever, located at the bottom of the door frame, towards you.► Lift the safety catch and raise the bonnet.

► Unclip the stay from its housing and place it in the support slot to hold the bonnet open.
Closing
► Take the stay out of the support slot.► Clip the stay in its housing.► Lower the bonnet and release it near the end of its travel.► Pull on the bonnet to check that it is locked correctly.

Because of the presence of electrical
equipment under the bonnet, it is recommended that exposure to water (rain, washing, etc.) be limited.

Check all of the following levels regularly in accordance with the manufacturer's service schedule. Top them up if required, unless otherwise indicated.If a level drops significantly, have the corresponding system checked by a TOYOTA dealer or a qualified workshop.

Take care when working under the bonnet, as certain areas of the engine may be extremely hot (risk of burns) and the cooling fan could start at any time (even with the ignition off).
Used products
WARNI NG
Avoid prolonged contact of used oil or fluids with the skin.Most of these fluids are harmful to health and very corrosive.
ECO
Do not discard used oil or fluids into sewers or onto the ground.Empty used oil into the containers reserved for this purpose at a TOYOTA dealer or a qualified workshop.
Engine oil
The level is checked, with the engine having been switched off for at least 30
minutes and on level ground, either using the oil level indicator in the instrument panel when the ignition is switched on (for vehicles equipped with an electric gauge), or using the dipstick.
It is normal to top up the oil level between two services (or oil changes). It is recommended that you check the level, and top up if necessary, every 5,000 km (3,000 miles).
WARNI NG
In order to maintain the reliability of the engine and emissions control system, never use additives in the engine oil.
Checking using the dipstick
For the location of the dipstick, please refer to the illustration of the corresponding engine compartment.► Grasp the dipstick by its coloured grip and pull it out completely.► Wipe the end of the dipstick using a clean, lint-free cloth.

► Reinsert the dipstick and push fully down, then pull it out again to visually check the oil level: the correct level is between marks A (max) and B (min).Do not start the engine if the level is:– above mark A: contact a TOYOTA dealer or a qualified workshop.
– below mark B: top up the engine oil immediately.
WARNI NG
Oil gradeBefore topping up or changing the engine oil, check that the oil is suitable for the engine and complies with the recommendations in the service schedule supplied with the vehicle
(or available from your TOYOTA dealer and qualified workshops).Use of non-recommended oil may invalidate the contractual warranty in the event of engine failure.
Topping up the engine oil level
The location of the oil filler cap is shown in the corresponding underbonnet layout view.► Add oil in small quantities, avoiding any spills on engine components (risk of fire).► Wait a few minutes before checking the level again using the dipstick.► Add more oil if necessary.► After checking the level, carefully refit the oil filler cap and the dipstick in its tube.
NOTIC E
During the 30 minutes after topping up the oil, the check performed with the oil level indicator in the instrument panel when the ignition is switched on is not valid.

Only use products recommended by TOYOTA or products of equivalent quality and specification.In order to optimise the operation of components as important as those in the braking system, TOYOTA selects and offers very specific products.
12 V battery
The battery does not require any maintenance.However, check regularly that the terminals are correctly tightened (versions without quick release terminals) and that the connections are clean.

WARNI NG
Versions equipped with Stop & Start are fitted with a 12 V lead-acid battery of specific technology and specification.Its replacement should be carried out only by a TOYOTA dealer or a qualified workshop.
Passenger compartment

Depending on the environment and the use of the vehicle (e.g. dusty atmosphere, city driving), change it twice as often, if necessary.

A clogged passenger compartment filter can adversely affect air conditioning system performance and generate undesirable odours.
Air filter
Depending on the environment and the use of the vehicle (e.g. dusty atmosphere, city driving), change it twice as often, if necessary.
Oil filter
Change the oil filter each time the engine oil is changed.
Particle filter (Diesel)
When the particle filter is approaching saturation, this warning lamp comes on temporarily, accompanied by a message warning of the risk of filter clogging.
As soon as the traffic conditions permit, regenerate the filter by driving at a speed of at least 60 km/h (37 mph) until the warning lamp goes off.

If the warning lamp stays on, this indicates a low Diesel additive level.For more information on Checking levels,

NOTIC E
Following prolonged operation of the vehicle at very low speed or at idle, you may, in exceptional circumstances, notice the emission of water vapour at the exhaust while accelerating. This has no impact on the vehicle’s behaviour or the environment.

New vehicleDuring the first few particle filter regeneration operations, you may notice a "burning" smell. This is perfectly normal.

Brake pads
Brake wear depends on the style of driving, particularly in the case of vehicles used in town, over short distances. It may be necessary to have the condition of the brakes checked, even between vehicle services.Unless there is a leak in the circuit, a drop in the brake fluid level indicates that the brake pads are worn.
NOTIC E
After washing the vehicle, moisture, or in wintry conditions, ice can form on the brake discs and pads: braking efficiency may be reduced. Gently dab the brakes to dry and defrost them.
Brake disc wear
For information on checking brake disc wear, contact a TOYOTA dealer or a qualified workshop.
Manual parking brake
If you notice excessive brake lever travel or decreased effectiveness, the parking brake must be adjusted, even between two
services.
This system must be checked by a TOYOTA dealer or a qualified workshop.
Electric parking brake
This system does not require any routine servicing. However, in the event of a problem, do not hesitate to have the system checked by a TOYOTA dealer or a qualified workshop.

Wheels and tyres
The inflation pressure of all tyres, including the spare wheel, must be checked on "cold” tyres.The pressures indicated on the tyre pressure label are valid for "cold" tyres. If you have driven for more than 10 minutes or more than 10 km (6 miles) at over 50 km/h (31 mph), add 0.3 bar (30 kPa) to the values indicated on the label.

Under-inflation increases fuel consumption. Non-compliant tyre pressure causes
premature wear on tyres and has an adverse effect on the vehicle's road holding - risk of an accident!
Driving with worn or damaged tyres reduces the braking and road holding performance of the vehicle. It is recommended to regularly check the condition of the tyres (tread and sidewalls) and wheel rims as well as the presence of the valves.When the wear indicators no longer appear set back from the tread, the depth of the grooves is less than 1.6 mm; it is imperative to replace the tyres.Using different size wheels and tyres from those specified can affect the lifetime of tyres, wheel rotation, ground clearance, the speedometer reading and have an adverse effect on road holding.Fitting different tyres on the front and rear axles can cause the ESC to mistime.

To respect the environment and ensure compliance with the Euro 6 standard, without adversely affecting the performance or fuel consumption of its Diesel engines, TOYOTA has
taken the decision to equip its vehicles with a system that associates SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) with a Diesel particle filter (DPF) for the treatment of exhaust gases.
