dealer.
⚫Replace the seat assembly, including the belts, if your vehicle has been
involved in a serious accident, even if there is no obvious damage.
⚫Do not attempt to install, remove, or modify seat belts. They may not work
effectively at the time of a collision.
⚫Do not attempt to install, remove, modi fy, disassemble or dispose of the seat

⚫Vehicles with SRS side and curtain
shield airbags: Do not attach any-
thing to areas such as a door, wind-
shield glass, side door glass, front
or rear pillar, roof side rail and
assist grip
⚫Vehicles with SRS side and curtain shield airbags: Do not use seat accesso-
ries which cover the parts where the SRS side airbags inflate as they may
interfere with inflation of the SRS airbags. Such accessories may prevent the
side airbags from activating correctly, disable the system or cause the side
airbags to inflate accidentally, re sulting in death or serious injury
⚫Do not strike or apply significant levels of force to the area of the SRS airbag
components.
Doing so can cause the SRS airbags to malfunction.
⚫Do not touch any of the component pa rts immediately after the SRS airbags
have deployed (inflated) as they may be hot.
⚫If breathing becomes difficult after the SRS airbags have deployed, open a
door or window to allow fresh air in, or le ave the vehicle if it is safe to do so.
Wash off any residue as soon as po ssible to prevent skin irritation.
⚫Vehicles without SRS side and curtain shield airbags: If the areas where the
SRS airbags are stored, such as th e steering wheel pad, are damaged or
cracked, have them replaced by your Toyota dealer.
⚫Vehicles with SRS side and curtain shie ld airbags: If the areas where the SRS
airbags are stored, such as the steering wheel pad and front and rear pillar
garnishes, are damaged or cracked, have them replaced by your Toyota
dealer.
⬛If the SRS airbags deploy (inflate)
⚫High-temperature gas will inflate the SRS airbags at an extremely high
speed, possibly leading to injuries, incl uding scrapes, burns, and contusions.

Exhaust gas precautions
Exhaust gases contain a substance harmful to the human body if
inhaled.
WARNING
Exhaust gases contain harmful carbon monoxide (CO), which is colorless and
odorless. Observe the following precautions.
Failure to do so may cause exhaust gases to enter the vehicle and may lead to an
accident caused by light-headedness, or may cause death or a serious health
hazard.
⬛Important points while driving
Keep the back door closed.
If you smell exhaust gas in the vehicle even when the back door is closed, open
the windows to allow fresh air in and have the vehicle inspected at your Toyota
dealer immediately.
⬛When parking the vehicle
⚫If the vehicle is in a poorly ventilated ar ea or a closed area, such as a garage,
stop the engine.
⚫Do not leave the vehicle with the engine running for a long time.
If such a situation cannot be avoided, park the vehicle in an open space and
ensure that exhaust gases do not enter the vehicle interior.
⚫Do not leave the engine running in an area with snow build-up, or where it is
snowing. If snowbanks build up around the vehicle while the engine is run-
ning, exhaust gases may collect and enter the vehicle.
⬛Exhaust pipes
The exhaust pipes need to be checked periodically. If there is a hole or crack
caused by corrosion, damage to a joint, or abnormal exhaust noise, be sure to
have the vehicle inspected at your Toyota dealer.

1-2. Safety information for children
When children are in the vehicle
Observe the following precautions when children are in the vehicle.
⚫Children should always use a seat belt. When a child who cannot prop-
erly wear the seat belt is in the ve hicle, use a proper child restraint sys-
tem. ( ➞P. 49)
⚫It is recommended that children sit in the rear seats to avoid accidental
contact with the device that operates the vehicle.
⚫Use the child-protector lock (➞ P. 135) and window lock switch
( ➞ P. 160) to prevent children from opening doors or accidentally oper-
ating power windows while the vehicle is in motion.
⚫Do not let small children operate equipment which may catch or pinch
body parts, such as power wind ows, hood, doors, seats, etc.
WARNING
⚫Never leave children unattended in the ve hicle. High temperatures inside the
vehicle can cause heatstroke and dehydr ation, which can cause death or a seri-
ous health hazard.
Also, children may operate devices inside the vehicle and get caught in the
door window or move a device that oper ates the vehicle, leading to an unfore-
seen accident.
⚫When children are in the vehicle, please refer to P. 49, which provides precau-
tions for ensuring your child’s safety, dire ctions on installing child restraint sys-
tems, and other related information.
