3385-3. Operating the lights and wipers
Operating the lever operates
the wipers or washer as follows:
1 Off
2 Rain-sensing operation
3 Low speed operation
4 High speed operation
5 Temporary operation
When “AUTO” is selected, the wipers
will operate automat ically when the
sensor detects falli ng rain. The system
automatically adjusts wiper timing in
accordance with rain volume and vehi -
cle speed.
The sensor sensitivity can be
adjusted when “AUTO” is selected.
6 Increases the sensitivity
7 Decreases the sensitivity
8 Washer/wiper dual oper-
ation
Pulling the lever operates the wipers
and washer.
The wipers will autom atically operate a
couple of times a fter the washer
squirts.
Vehicles with headlight cleaners: When
the power switch is in ON and the
headlights are on, if the lever is pulled,
the headlight cleane rs will operate
once. After this, the headlight cleaners
will operate every 5th time the lever is
pulled.
Windshield wipers and
washer
Operating the lever can switch

Driving
■The windshield wipers and washer can be operated when
The power switch is in ON.
■Effects of vehicle speed on wiper
operation
With low speed windshield wiper opera -
tion selected, wiper operation will be
switched from low sp eed to intermittent wiper operation when the vehicle is sta -
tionary. (However, when the sensor sen -
sitivity is adjusted to the highest level, the mode will not switch.)
■Raindrop sensor
●The raindrop sensor judges the
amount of raindrops.* An optical sen - sor is adopted. It may not operate
properly when sunlight from the rising
or setting of the sun intermittently strikes the windshield, or if bugs, etc.
are present on the windshield.
●If the wiper switch is turned to the
“AUTO” position while the power
switch is in ON, the wipers will operate
once to show that “AUTO” mode is activated.
●If the wiper sensitivity is adjusted to higher, the wiper may operate once to
indicate the change of sensitivity.
●If the temperature of the raindrop sen -
sor is 85°C (185°F) or higher, or -15°C
(5°F) or lower, the automatic opera - tion may not occur. In this case, oper -
ate the wipers in any mode other than
“AUTO”.*: It may be located on the opposite side
depending on the target region.
■If no windshield washer fluid
sprays
Check that the washer nozzles are not
blocked if there is washer fluid in the
windshield washer fluid reservoir.
■Washer nozzle heaters (if equipped)
The washer nozzle heaters operate to
prevent frozen nozzle when the outside temperature is 5°C (41°F) or less and
the power switch is in ON.
WARNING
■Caution regarding the use of
windshield wipers in “AUTO” mode
The windshield wipers may operate
unexpectedly if the sensor is touched or the windshield is subject to vibra -
tion in “AUTO” mode. Take care that
your fingers or anything else does not become caught in the windshield wip -
ers.
■Caution regarding the use of
washer fluid
When it is cold, do not use the washer fluid until the windshield becomes
warm. The fluid may freeze on the
windshield and cause low visibility. This may lead to an accident, result -
ing in death or serious injury.
■When the washer nozzle heaters
are operating (if equipped)
Do not touch the area around the washer nozzle, as they can become
very hot and burn you.
NOTICE
■When the washer fluid tank is empty
Do not operate the switch continually
as the washer fluid pump may over - heat.

Maintenance and care
■Front side windows water-repel -
lent coating (except quarter win - dow)
●The following precautions can extend the effectiveness of the water-repel -
lent coating.
• Remove any dirt, etc., from the front side windows regularly.
• Do not allow dirt and dust to accumu -
late on the windows for a long period. Clean the windows wit h a soft, damp
cloth as soon as possible.
• Do not use wax or glass cleaners that contain abrasives when cleaning the
windows.
• Do not use any metallic objects to remove condensation build up.
■Bumpers
Do not scrub with abrasive cleaners.
■Plated portions
If dirt cannot be removed, clean the parts as follows:
●Use a soft cloth dampened with an approximately 5% sol ution of neutral
detergent and water to clean the dirt
off.
●Wipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth
to remove any remaining moisture.
●To remove oily deposits, use alcohol
wet wipes or a similar product.
WARNING
■When washing the vehicle
Do not apply water to the inside of the
engine compartment. Doing so may
cause the electrical components, etc. to catch fire.
■When cleaning the windshield
Set the wiper switch to off.
If the wiper switch is in “AUTO”, the
wipers may operate unexpectedly in the following situations, and may
result in hands being caught or other
serious injuries and cause damage to the wiper blades.
Off
“AUTO”
●When the upper part of the wind -
shield where the raindrop sensor is
located is tou ched by hand
●When a wet rag or similar is held
close to the raindrop sensor
●If something bum ps against the
windshield
●If you directly touch the raindrop
sensor body or if something bumps
into the raindrop sensor
■Precautions regarding the
exhaust pipes
Exhaust gasses cause the exhaust
pipes to become quite hot.
When washing the vehicle, be careful not to touch the pipes until they have
cooled sufficiently, as touching hot
exhaust pipes can cause burns.

WARNING
■Precaution regarding the rear
bumper with Blind Spot Monitor
(if equipped)
If the paint of the rear bumper is
chipped or scratched, the system may
malfunction. If this occurs, consult any authorized Toyo ta retailer or
Toyota authorized repairer, or any
reliable repairer.
NOTICE
■To prevent paint deterioration and corrosion on the body and
components (aluminum wheels,
etc.)
●Wash the vehicle immediately in
the following cases:
• After driving near the sea coast
• After driving on salted roads
• If coal tar or tree sap is present on
the paint surface
• If dead insects, insect droppings or
bird droppings are present on the
paint surface
• After driving in an area contami - nated with soot, o ily smoke, mine
dust, iron powder or chemical sub -
stances
• If the vehicle becomes heavily
soiled with dust or mud
• If liquids such as benzene and gas - oline are spilled on the paint sur-
face
●If the paint is chipped or scratched,
have it repaired immediately.
●To prevent the wh eels from corrod-
ing, remove any dirt and store in a
place with low humidity when stor - ing the wheels.
■Cleaning the exterior lights
●Wash carefully. Do not use organic
substances or scrub with a hard
brush. This may damage the surfaces of
the lights.
●Do not apply wax to the surfaces of
the lights.
Wax may cause damage to the lenses.
■When using an automatic car wash
Set the wiper switch to off position.
If the wiper switch is in “AUTO”, the wipers may operate and the wiper
blades may be damaged.
■When using a high pressure car
wash
●When washing the vehicle, do not let water from the high-pressure
washer directly hit the camera (if
equipped) or the area around the camera. Due to the shock from the
high pressure water, it is possible
that the device may not operate normally.
●Do not bring the no zzle tip close to boots (rubber o r resin manufac-
tured cover), or co nnectors or the
following parts. The parts may be damaged if they
come into contact with high-pres -
sure water.
• Traction battery
• Traction related parts
• Steering parts
• Suspension parts
• Brake parts
●Keep the cleaning nozzle at least 30 cm (11.9 in.) away from the vehi -
cle body. Otherwis e resin section,
such as moldings and bumpers, may be deformed and damaged.
Also, do not continuously hold the
nozzle in the same place.
