OLane centering function
This function operates when all of the
following conditions are met.

ceding vehicle (except when the
preceding vehicle is small, such as a
motorcycle).
• The dynamic radar cruise control with
full-speed range is operating in vehi-

to 4 m (10 to 13 ft.).
• Turn signal lever is not operated.

QTemporary cancelation of functions
OWhen operation conditions are no lon-
ger met, a function may be temporar-
ily canceled. However, when the
operation conditions are met again,
operation of the function is automati-
cally restored. (P.325)
OIf the operation conditions (P.325)
are no longer met while the lane cen-
tering function is operating, the steer-
ing wheel may vibrate and the buzzer
may sound to indicate that the func-
tion has been temporarily canceled.
However, if the “Alert” customization
setting is set to , the system will
notify the driver by vibrating the steer-
ing wheel instead of sounding the
buzzer.
QSteering assist function/lane cen-
tering function
ODepending on the vehicle speed, lane
departure situation, road conditions,
etc., the driver may not feel the func-
tion is operating or the function may
not operate at all.
OThe steering control of the function is
overridden by the driver’s steering

In the following situations, the RSA
system will notify the driver.
When the vehicle speed exceeds
the speed notification threshold
of the speed limit sign displayed,
the sign display will be empha-
sized and a buzzer will sound.
When the RSA system recog-
nizes a no-entry sign and detects
that the vehicle has entered a
no-entry area based on the map
information of the navigation sys-
tem, the no-entry sign flashes
and a buzzer will sound. (For
vehicles with navigation system)
If it is detected that your vehicle
is overtaking when a no overtak-
ing sign is displayed on the multi-
information display, the dis-
played sign will flash and a steer-
ing wheel will vibrate.
Depending on the situation, traffic
environment (traffic direction,
speed unit) may be detected incor-
rectly and a notification function
may not operate properly.

One or more signs automatically turn off
in the following situations.
ONo sign has been recognized for a
certain distance.

operate normally and may not recognize
signs, display the incorrect sign, etc.
However, this does not indicate a mal-

OIn inclement weather such as heavy

Notification function

When a vehicle is detected running ahead of you, the system automatically deceler-
ates your vehicle. When a greater reduction in vehicle speed is necessary, the sys-
tem applies the brakes (the stop lights will come on at this time). The system will
respond to changes in the speed of the vehicle ahead in order to maintain the vehi-
cle-to-vehicle distance set by the driver. Approach warning warns you when the sys-
tem cannot decelerate sufficiently to prevent your vehicle from closing in on the
vehicle ahead.
When the vehicle ahead of you stops, your vehicle will also stop (vehicle is stopped
by system control). After the vehicle ahead starts off, pressing the “+RES” switch or
depressing the accelerator pedal (start-off operation) will resume follow-up cruising.
If the start-off operation is not performed, system control continues to keep your
vehicle stopped.
When the turn signal lever is operated and your vehicle moves to an overtaking lane
while driving at 80 km/h (50 mph) or more, the vehicle will accelerate to help to over-
take a passing vehicle.
The system’s identification of what is an overtaking lane may be determined solely
based on the location of the steering wheel in the vehicle (left side driver position
versus right side driver position.) If the vehicle is driven to a region where the over-
taking lane is on a different side from where the vehicle is normally driven, the vehi-
cle may accelerate when the turn signal lever is operated in the opposite direction to
the overtaking lane (e.g., if the driver normally operates the vehicle in a region
where the overtaking lane is to the right but then drives to a region where the over-
taking lane is to the left, the vehicle may accelerate when the right turn signal is acti-
vated).
Example of acceleration
When there are no longer any preceding vehicles driving slower than the
set speed
The system accelerates until the set speed is reached. The system then returns to
constant speed cruising.

When a vehicle is detected in a blind
spot of the outside rear view mirrors or
approaching rapidly from behind into a
blind spot, the outside rear view mirror
indicator on the detected side will illumi-
nate. If the turn signal lever is operated

WARNING
QCautions regarding the use of the BSM function
The driver is solely responsible for safe driving. Always drive safely, tak-ing care to observe your surround-
ings. The BSM function is a supplementary function which alerts the driver that a
vehicle is in a blind spot of the outside rear view mirrors or is approaching rapidly from behind into a blind spot.
Do not overly rely on the BSM func- tion. As the function cannot judge if it is safe to change lanes, over reliance
could lead to an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
As the system may not function cor-
rectly under certain conditions, the driver’s own visual confirmation of safety is necessary.
QCautions regarding the use of the RCTA function
There is a limit to the degree of recog-
nition accuracy and control perfor- mance that this system can provide, do not overly rely on this system. The
driver is always responsible for pay- ing attention to the vehicle’s sur-roundings and driving safely.

QSounds and vibrations caused by
the ABS, brake assist, VSC, Trailer
Sway Control, TRC and hill-start
assist control systems
OA sound may be heard from the
engine compartment when the brake
pedal is depressed repeatedly, when
the hybrid system is started or just
after the vehicle begins to move. This
sound does not indicate that a mal-
function has occurred in any of these
systems.
OAny of the following conditions may
occur when the above systems are
operating. None of these indicates
that a malfunction has occurred.
• Vibrations may be felt through the
vehicle body and steering.
• A motor sound may be heard also
after the vehicle comes to a stop.
QECB operating sound
ECB operating sound may be heard in
the following cases, but it does not indi-
cate that a malfunction has occurred.
OOperating sound heard from the
engine compartment when the brake
pedal is operated.
OMotor sound of the brake system
heard from the front part of the vehicle
when the driver’s door is opened.
OOperating sound heard from the
engine compartment when one or two
minutes passed after the stop of the
hybrid system.
QActive Cornering Assist operation

When the Active Cornering Assist is
operated, operation sounds and vibra-
tions may be generated from the brake
system, but this is not a malfunction.
QEPS operation sound
When the steering wheel is operated, a
motor sound (whirring sound) may be
heard. This does not indicate a malfunc-
tion.
QAutomatic reactivation of TRC,
Trailer Sway Control and VSC sys-
tems
After turning the TRC, Trailer Sway
Control and VSC systems off, the sys-
tems will be automatically re-enabled in
the following situations:
OWhen the power switch is turned off
OIf only the TRC system is turned off,
the TRC will turn on when vehicle
speed increases
If both the TRC and VSC systems are
turned off, automatic re-enabling will
not occur when vehicle speed
increases.
QOperating conditions of Active Cor-
nering Assist
The system operates when the following
occurs.
OTRC/VSC can operate
OThe driver is attempting to accelerate
while turning
OThe system detects that the vehicle is
drifting to the outer side
OThe brake pedal is released
QReduced effectiveness of the EPS
system
The effectiveness of the EPS system is
reduced to prevent the system from
overheating when there is frequent
steering input over an extended period
of time. The steering wheel may feel
heavy as a result. Should this occur,
refrain from excessive steering input or
stop the vehicle and turn the hybrid sys-
tem off. The EPS system should return
to normal within 10 minutes.
QOperating conditions of emergency
brake signal
When the following conditions are met,
the emergency brake signal will operate:
OThe emergency flashers are off.
OActual vehicle speed is over 55 km/h
(35 mph).
OThe system judges from the vehicle
deceleration that it is a sudden brak-

The system operates when the SRS air-
bag sensor detects a collision while the vehicle is in motion. However, the sys-tem does not operate when the compo-
nents are damaged.
QSecondary Collision Brake auto- matic cancellation (if equipped)
The system is automatically canceled in
any of the following situations.
OThe vehicle speed drops to approxi-
mately 10 km/h (6 mph).
OA certain amount of time elapses
during operation
OThe accelerator pedal is depressed a
large amount
QIf a message about AWD is shown on the multi-information display (AWD models)
Perform the following actions.
O“AWD System Overheated Switching
to 2WD Mode”
AWD system is overheated. Stop the
vehicle in a safe place with the hybrid
system operating.*
If the message disappears after a while,
there is no problem. If the message
remains, have the vehicle inspected by
any authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
O“AWD System Overheated 2WD
Mode Engaged”
AWD system has been temporarily
released and switched to front-wheel
drive due to overheating. Stop the vehi-
cle in a safe place with the hybrid sys-
tem operating.*
If the message disappears after a while,
AWD system will automatically recover.
If the message remains, have the vehi-
cle inspected by any authorized Toyota
retailer or Toyota authorized repairer, or
any reliable repairer immediately.
O“AWD System Malfunction 2WD Mode Engaged Visit Your Dealer”
A malfunction occurs in the AWD sys-
tem. Have the vehicle inspected by any
authorized Toyota retailer or Toyota
authorized repairer, or any reliable
repairer immediately.
*: When stopping the vehicle, do not
stop the hybrid system until the dis-
play message has turned off.
WARNING
QThe ABS does not operate effec-
tively when
OThe limits of tire gripping perfor- mance have been exceeded (such
as excessively worn tires on a snow covered road).
OThe vehicle hydroplanes while driv-ing at high speed on wet or slick roads.
QStopping distance when the ABS is operating may exceed that of
normal conditions
The ABS is not designed to shorten the vehicle’s stopping distance.
Always maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you, especially in the following situations:
OWhen driving on dirt, gravel or snow-covered roads
OWhen driving with tire chains
